Bayonetta PS3 vs Xbox 360 useless war continues
For some odd reason Bayonetta has become the catalyst for the second console war. There are more articles about the impact Bayonetta is making in the console war than about the game itself. Interestingly enough, the controversy over the game has escalated enough for retailers to drop the price and put the title under a microscope.
I wrote a story yesterday about early reports of Bayonetta selling out faster on the Xbox 360 than the PS3 version in Japan. I attributed the sell out of the Xbox 360 version from a combination of short retail supply and the higher score of the Xbox version. Today, some early figures are out and it looks like my assumption was mostly correct.
According to Sankaku Complex, first day sales figures are in from Japan and the PS3 version of Bayonetta sold 93k while the Xbox 360 version sold 45k. The sales figures paint an interesting picture. The PS3 version sold twice as many copies as the Xbox 360 version but sales history for other top games tells a somewhat different story.
For a highly anticipated title in Japan, 93k for the PS3 is quite low for first day sales. Past titles such as Resident Evil 5 sold 222k on the PS3 and Devil May Cry 4 sold 140k on the PS3 day one. While the Xbox 360 version of Resident Evil 5 sold 56k and Devil May Cry 4 sold 30k.
It seems like the Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta is selling on target compared to previous top titles, while the PS3 version is under performing from its target. However, considering the fact that the PS3 version scored lower than the Xbox 360 in Famitsu and is considered the slightly inferior port of Bayonetta, one can also argue 93k is actually quite good as well.
I suppose you could say given the circumstances, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Bayonetta are selling above expectations. Another twist thrown into the mix for future North America sales is the fact Gamestop is preemptively pricing the PS3 version of Bayonetta lower than the Xbox 360 version by $5, which is unprecedented.
The last time there was such a disparity in pricing was after the release of The Orange Box. However, even in that instance The Orange Box was priced the same on launch day for both consoles, but the PS3 version’s price dropped faster. Its all very interesting to see how retail chains are planning to offset the quality differences between both versions.
It really is humorous to see such a ruckus over the PS3 version of Bayonetta considering the difference is extremely minor in contrast to what happened with The Orange Box. Gamers should just enjoy the game for what it is instead using it as ammunition to argue. What are gamers arguing about anyways, that SEGA and Platinum Games did a sub par PS3 port of Bayonetta?

I just read that on Google news yeah $5 less is awesome. And Bayonetta seems to be doing better on PLAYSTATION 3 in sales sweet. Xbox 360 is still just a trashy console a worthless piece of garbage.

Yes, I’ve played both versions and the difference is pretty minor. Both versions look pretty good, the Xbox 360 version is slightly superior. I wouldn’t call it a deal breaker for PS3 owners by any means. Its like arguing over the 40/40 score over 38/40 score – two point difference.
The PS3 version runs at a steady 30fps and Xbox runs at 52fps both acceptable in my book.
If anyone says otherwise, they are just arguing for the sake of arguing, its just silly.

I have no problem with 30fps console games. Over a TV, even the nicest LCDs and Plasmas, the difference is minor at best between 30 and 60fps. If it is my PC, however, I would be turning down the settings until I get that solid 60fps vsync limit.

Agreed. I wonder if we ever see a similar difference in favor of PS3 (because of the BD advantage) how the titles and articles would change. I.e. if a similar marginal difference was noticed on a multiplatform title, but specifically because programmers had utilized BD enough to eek out a graphical advantage on it. I can’t help but think how certain media outlets would color what is effectively the same story in a different light… lol.

BD disc (by its self) dont produce better graphics or FPS. so devs just dont put the effort to work around the PS3’s achitecture and that is what is causing inferior games on a specific console. BD is just extra space for Polygons, CGI cut scenes, etc which essentially can play a small part of creating a great looking game (just because the extra space available).
this different are minor and so small that you wont even notice unless you buy the game for both system (e.i. Oblivion, Fallout)

thanks for the tips on how to beat King Doran (he is a tough mofo). I had to tried like 8 times though because you told to fight him naked so if I was near one of his swings I was dead way before it even hit me

Yeah, Doran was my rolling 101 course, lol. He kills you with one shot unless you are lvl 150+ anyhow. Demon Brand is awesome, and the North Regalia is a nice Upgrade you will get for it in NG+. I still use north regalia, and I am at lvl 250 on my 6th playthrough, hah.
I figured something else out that might interest you. Good ending = 4% increase in difficulty. Bad ending = 10% increase in difficulty on next new game.

I thought Demon Brand was the black WT sword, right? Soul Brand is for white. That’s why I used it last night.
Roca, I played through my first game with white WT and CT, so I don’t have a single colorless Demon’s souls either.
As far as weapons go I have the Dragon Bone smasher, and a few other white WT weapons. I have a long sword+ 8, long compound bow +7, and purple flame shield +4. I was going to upgrade my long sword to the Morion Blade, but I learned Soul Thirst instead.
If anything I think you can give me the “best hard stone” blade so I can get the trophy and maybe upgrade it.

I was helping BJ go through 2-1 (he is on a NG+) and we kept getting invated and then we got rocked by the enemies

I was trying to reach PW WT but I was never able to reach it but my WT changed because of the halloween weekend so I took advantage of it and killed as many Primeval Demons as possible. I can drop some Colorless Demon soul for you

Demonbrand is for PWCT. maxes out at 480. King Doran was a good dude, so he uses the good sword.
Soulbrand is for PBCT. maxes out at 500. King Allant was even, this was his sword.
North Regalia will give you 540dmg at both PW and PB CT, but substantially less to zero at neutral CT.
Bad Ending is where you kill her instead of letting her put the old one back to sleep. basically, at the final crossroads, where all you can do is walk into the light to finish the game, you can just smack the maiden in black (she has less than 100hp, and doesn’t fight back).
You get Soul of the Beast and redeye stone, no known uses for the Soul, but it is worth 200k to consume. Not recommended on the first playthrough, as you will need her soul from the GOOD ending to get soulsucker (the double XP instant kill spell me and SW were going on about)

7 suicides to enemies in body form (not falling, doesn’t count) will drop you to pure PB from PW WT. SO basically, 7 ephem stones is all you need to make a world PB. Those can be farmed in world 5 (the big club wielding fuckers can drop them, as well as the blood babies in Astrea’s room.

I hated those “big club wielding fuckers”. They were easy enough to beat in a fair fight, but I kept getting rushed in the water.
And if it wasn’t them, I would stumble into the meat cleaver black phantom… I think 5-2 was the level I died the most in. Boss was really easy though.
I haven’t tried GOW 3 yet. I kept the PS3 on to download it last night. I’ll probably play it this afternoon. Can’t wait. Thanks again!
If the glitch works, we can keep doubling the colorless demons souls until we both have a ton of them. We can do 5-2 tonight also if you want. Lets just stay clear of that bitch with the meat cleaver.

Harry, I played the demo. It was just ok. It’s a lot like Devil may cry, but the story is a lot cheesier, and the levels felt a little small and empty. The boss fights in the demo were pretty cool though.

Red Eye stone and soul of the beast are from the bad ending. Neither is needed for platinum trophy.
You can get the Rune Shield and sword in 3-2. People who already have those, find it easier to just knock him off the bridge instead of fighting him.
From the start of 3-2, follow path until you enter the round building with the giant chained heart. Turn left once you enter the building, and climb the stairs. Once the stairs level off, there will be a couple open spaces in the wall where you can walk off to your death. The very first open space is what you want. There will be a bunch of pots lying around. Facing the drop, destroy the pots on the far LEFT of the open space. Creep up against the wall straight out into the drop. As slow as possible walk off, and as soon as you fall off, pull back on your stick (you have some, although very small, influence on your direction while falling). You should land on a ledge, follow the ledge around till you get the Rune Shield and sword.

Also just played the GOW3 demo. It was awesome. I’m getting the collection for my birthday. I’m not sure if the demo is on the disc, or they give you a voucher for it. If I get a voucher for the demo, I’ll give it away to someone.

Storm Ruler. I would be suprised if it sent out the spell effect anywhere but in 4-4. It is in the stage, is pretty weak physically, with very very low durability (10 i think) but in 4-4, while fighting the Storm King, it unleashes a massive energy blast, but in the lore, it is described to be limited to that stage only.
Would be a VERY cool weapon to have work elsewhere.

yes ur are right, thats how the glitch works. just drop the items, you can drop as many as you want, just dont exit from the “Item Window” to the “Main Menu” windows (as it will automatically save when you do that) and then after drop all the items/weapon, turn of the sytem or Hold the PS butter and click on “Quit Game” (without going to the Main Menu screen). I will be home around 5PM EST

Yeah, its range is brutally long, but uses up so much stamina, and is so slow, as well as limited to 150dmg, so actually, I think it would be fairly balanced for PVP, heh. I mean, I guess in first playthrough it would be scary to defend against, but by NG+, xp and stats are so elevated that it would become trivial.
Hey SW, i got my magic power to 45 and have been using Flamestorm like mad, makes some bosses trivial, even on NG+5.

I just checked my “Strength” stat and it is at level 25 but my “Attack Power” level is at 58, I might be misremembering but I dont recall my Strength being that low (58) and it’s been at 58 since since level 22. WTF happen?
I know the False king knocked off couple of levels of my Magic stats (since is my highest one) but it dont think it can effect my strength also? Im still doing a ton of damage with Large Sword of Searching and the Demon Brand but I think I remember my “attack level” being in the 70s-80s . what could possibly change/alter my “attack power”?

The King’s swords have pretty low required stats (found here: demonssouls.wikidot.com/swords) but nothing over required will effect the DMG. Once minimums are met, the dmg scale is based entirely on CT. Demon = max dmg at PW. Soul = max dmg at PB, North = max dmg at both PW/B.
I will continue the conversation on the forums before harry has an aneurysm on our asses.

Right. I’m just saying if they did, and these “minor” results were turned around vice versa in favor of the PS3, certain media outlets would probably tout it (the diff between 30fps and 52fps and other graphical differences) as the next coming in instead of “pretty minor”, though I could be wrong.

so you basically want the media to do the same for the 360 and play fair? I understand that some website overpraise the PS3. but there are reasons for that and I believe you can agree on some of what im going to say (some might think its fanboy talk)
1- The 360 achictecture is basically similar to PC, so its easier to develop. so basically if a miltiplatform game looks better on the PS3 you cant really say devs dont know how to work around the 360 specs/codes
2- While there still great games coming out on the 360 the most graphically impressive title is Gears 1 & 2 (2006 & 2008). while the 360 is not maxed out yet (innovations will never be maxed out, new Ideas can always bring something unique) but graphically many ppl think the 360 is maxed out in that department until it can show other wise. while on the PS3 you keep seeing that it still have room to improve (based of upcoming titles) in that department. so if a game look better on the PS3 they going to use that excuse (360 is maxed out) to overpraise the PS3
-Most devs and gaming websites think that the power of the PS3 hasnt been untapped because of it being harder to develop and get the real juice out it. so they overpraise it because it too
I do know some overpraise the PS3 (like some say BD is the reason PS3 games look good) but the 360 has been quite for a while in the graphics department…idk thats just my opinion…wat do you think?

Gamespot also said the PS3 version was inferior to the 360 version due to a slower framerate and it having pop-in with the several corpses that tend to get littered in the game.
Mysteriously, it is the only one out of 19 reviews so far for the 360 version that actually give a higher score to PS3. The PS3 version has only twelve reviews gathered on Metacritic.
