Gamer gives up on COD: MW2 and turns towards Battlefield Bad Company 2
When Infinity Ward announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would not have dedicated server support there was a huge backlash from the gaming community. It looks like one gamer is showing his appreciation to DICE for supporting dedicated servers with money.
A new post on the official Battlefield: Bad Company 2 blog displays a letter sent in by a gamer showing some love for DICE, an EA-owned studio. It looks like DICE blacked out some key words in the letter such as: “Infinity Ward” and “COD:MW2.” The gamer felt so strongly against Infinity Ward’s actions he sent in $60, the amount he would have spent on buying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, made out to DICE.
Even though $60 is a small amount, this letter is definitely makes a strong statement. I wouldn’t be surprised to see others following in similar footsteps. There is a boycott for COD:MW2, and it currently has over 43k signatures. That adds up to about $2.6 million in lost potential sales. Infinity Ward may want to rethink its “price jacking-no dedicated server support” strategy.

IW can go fuck themselves for removing dedicated servers. They revealed today that they got 100ms pings during testing. What ever happened to 30ms?
Games are limited to 9vs9 max, hardcore mode isn’t available on all public ‘playlists’.

I think Activision needs to take a cue from Naughty Dog, and learn how to properly make a sequel.
Imagine if Activision actually gave a shit about their IP’s like ND does? Instead they just slap together an annual release, maybe through in some plastic peripherals for good measure, and then call it a day.

If you are going to make a co op game you need to really have that all planned out from the get go. Co op can really screw up the pace of a game if badly implemented.

I saw that. I loaded it up but haven’t visited it yet. Now Amazon has the game for 49.99. My pre order bonus was lame. Box smasher and magnet and 5000 bolts. I can rack up that many bolts in a couple of minutes. For my second playthrough (on hard which i need for the plat) I will save for the million bolts trophy.

Personally I love the game for it’s Campaign but the Multiplayer is suspect to me. For that reason I’m sitting on the fence on this one. Is there going to be zombi mode in this one? This might end up a rental.

I rented Modern Warefare (1), I beat the campaign in the first two days, and played some games online for the rest of three days on my rental.
It was fun, but I felt like I was completely done with it after a week.

The MP aspect of Modern warfare really grows on you. The unlocking of different classes and weapons is definitely responsible for this. You can’t really get the full feel of it in one day.

I was under the impression that you 360 fangirls preferred playing online games at decent frame rates with little lag. Most of been for some other console.

In the few weeks I spent on the IW forums after this debacle started I’ve seen a 1000 responses like that from Live users.
They don’t get it, and they think that because they sit in front of a small pc in a box, rather than a large pc in a box, that this somehow makes them ‘cooler’.
They don’t get it, they never will – unless MS/IW takes something from them.
Another side note… Anyone ever use ‘lean’? Because that’s gone too, now we get a glorious 3rd person mode….. Gears of Modern Warfare 2 I suppose…

Left for dead has dedicated servers, but i lag on them.. Even on Bad company and BF 1943..
So i have to play custom matches with friends, and i cant do that on dedicated servers.. so in some cases, p2p has its advantages over dedicated..

I’m sitting on the fence for PC version of MW2 now. I have pre-ordered it, yet lack of dedicated servers is a concern. Though some of the guys in the office have gaming sessions every now and then, so I think I’ll wait and see what happens.
@ Ghost and Harry, If your looking at getting L4D2, I purchased it through Steam Uk. Use your browser, not the steam client, and you get it in all it’s gory glory.
I’ve been playing the demo for a few days now, and really enjoying it. Especially the vial of boomer vomit you can throw at the bad guys. Laughed my ass off at the hoard attacking their own. Make sure you save that baby for the tank.

I am boycotting the PC version, as my gaming PC far outperforms my PS3 (or a 360 for that matter) and when COD4 and WaW were released, my old PC wouldn’t cut the mustard, so PS3 was the only way for me to go at the time.
Having a nice gaming PC, I would not purchase this game for a console, its cheaper for PC, and KBM is the best way to play any FPS, imo.
Not having dedicated servers for the PC version means I won’t buy it all. Consoles seem to do better with player hosted games, but having to sacrifice KBM + graphics/Frames per second means that I would be comprimising either way. Fuck Infinity Ward.

Uncharted 2 and Demon’s Souls are two different types of games. There should be no comparing between these two games. If you are going to compare games, let’s at least compare similar games of similar genries.

OK so now that I own Fora 3 I must say this is the best Fora yet. 1 & 2 were just garbage compared to 3. The game just grabs you and the fun and excitement begins. What car did you guys start your career with? I went with the Ford Fiesta. Now that I have my VW Scirocco GT I’m in Heaven. This is definately the best sim racer yet.

The point is, xbox live has millions of hours of gameplay being enjoyed by millions of users and “dedicated servers” has never been an issue. And why? Because they’re too busy having fun to care.
JOFA – I realize, as a pc gamer, you tend to focus on getting the most from your gaming rig. After all you paid many times the price of a gaming console. But it’s important to remember that console gaming and pc gaming are not the same type of gaming.

CAD – Forza 3 RAWKS!!! I, too, have become a victim of it’s mesmorizing racing goodness. I haven’t put the controller down (outside of my job) since buying it last Tuesday. I’m at level (offline) 47 and have just won the R1 Audi and over 3 million creds to blow. I think I’m about 40% through my career, with lots to go.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful Nurburgring in any console racing game. That thing is a friggin joy to race just for the scenery. The lighting in the game is second to none, that’s for sure. Don’t get me started on how awesome the engines sound….
Automotive crack!!! This is what a sim is supposed to be like. It’s amazing they did so much and this is only their 3rd game. The bar has been set incredibly high for others to follow. Everything from the physics, tunings, upgrades, AI, to audio, graphics, etc…is a homerun.
My only concern is; where do they go from here? I hope they don’t start needlessly fluffing up the car count in lieu of innovation, like some other console “sim” makers.

I stop playing Nazi Zombies because I spent almost 2 hours to get to round 41 and the host (a lil kid) had to go to bed, he quit and the server kicks everybody out….for me it was a waste of 2 hrs and since then I havent touch my CoD:WaW game. I believed Army of Two had the same issue (they said they fixed in upcoming sequel)

I played the Nurburgring but only on Free mode. It was very nice but I never finished the race as I was just trying it before bed. I loved the Track (Sorry I don’t know the name) that happens on Saturday’s where at first it seemed like your driving a ring and then it goes on into a amazing track. I was just wowed by that track and I’m only in the begining. I have never seen a track like that in any racing game I have ever played.

SW – it seems, all you hardcore pc gamers are pickier. You should be given the amount of money spent on your rigs. I prolly would be too. I just didn’t see P2P as an issue as console gamer. Maybe I’d feel different as a pc gamer.
CAD – I know what track you’re talking about. There is a chicane in which you face directly at the sun and the bloom effect is AWESOME!! Actually made me squint… Love that track, too… it makes me miss the southwest… Great lighting and attention to detail. Even at 92 at metracritic, this game is still underrated, imo.
$150 is an “arm and a leg” for a game to Roca….meannwhile, $600 is a “value” for the ps3. Seriously tho; $150 is a great deal if the NVG actually work. Typically a decent set is several hundreds of dollars.

Well obviousley I won’t be walking around the street looking like the borg from startrek. I’m more intrested in them for when I go camping or go to the cottage. We have lots of cottage life here in Ontario. I’m sure noone goes around wishing for a pair of night vision goggles because I’ve never thought about owning one in my whole life but now that my intrest is peaked I’m thinking about it now.

Is that what you got out of all that in the last topic?
I believe he said once you get started in manual transmission car you don’t NEED the clutch to shift anymore, which is true. You got to be precise with your shifting but it’s true none the less.
That whole thread before was screwed up because you just didn’t know the ps3 controllers layout. We were all basically talking about the same time yet arguing about it…

you don’t need it for stopping at all. Just drop in in neutral as you stop.

yes I wont lie. I google some of it. but everybody knows you dont really need a clutch to “shift gears” now days, you only need them to start and stop the car, come on if you can comprehend that you really need help. I just put that out there becuase I know idiots like you could have said something like “you need a clutch to shift gears or your engine will blow up or break”

Once you hit the clutch the game will know that you want to shift instead of look around.
Still don’t understand why you would need a clutch to stop….. Of course if you mean stop and then go again you would need it to get back from 1st to 2nd gear.

It depends. Some people park in 1st gear to prevent the vehicle from rolling if the E break gives out.

Sorry guys, but clutch control is indeed an integral part of most racing short of the very highest end F1/2/3, Indy, or LM series type of racing.
Engine braking, via heal-and-toe rev matching on downshifts for fluidity on high speed curves, or snap abrupt dropping of the clutch to induce power off oversteer in mid engine, is essential for chassis control across various possible scenarios.
That being said, anything short of a Wheel and pedal setup could in no way emulate this capability. So to me, I enjoy GT’s approach (every transmission acts like a sequential shift DCT) as it allows those of us who don’t want to pay for a quality wheel-pedal setup to enjoy the rest of the game without being hamstrung by that sort of dynamic over a standard console controller.
Besides, that level of simulation can only really be utilized by those of us who have done it in real life. Learning to Heal/toe rev matching throttle blipping downshifts over a video game would be disgusting and criminal hah, the process is based so much on visceral inputs from your body while in a car (pedal feedback, wheel feedback, g-forces, engine vibration, adrenaline response when it all goes right, heh) that I can’t imagine any simulation doing it properly.
So +1 for FM3 for including a clutch. But a moot point to me, as video games can only make that feature a novelty, at best.

Jofa- actually the clutch is not just a novelty. Forza 3 offers the use of a clutch as an option for use with manual transmissions.
This adds another layer of gameplay and enjoyment that GT5 doesn’t have. Deeper gameplay is always welcome.
GT fanboys tend to think anything not present in GT games is a “novelty”, like you do. But, then when it shows up in GT games it’s not longer a “novelty”, it’s “innovation”.
For instance, when the first Forza launched all the sony fanboys swore damage wasn’t needed and it was just a novelty. Now that GT5 is reported to offer damage in some cars, GT5 is “innovative” with the inclusion of damage.
You call a clutch a novelty now, but when GT6 incorporates it, you’ll be in the front of the line calling it “innovation”, I’m sure.
Any wonder why GT fans are never taken seriously?

Without an expensive, proper wheel-pedal setup, yes, the clutch will be a novelty. It’s understandable that you wouldn’t understand that, having only had your permit for 6months, so I won’t hold it against you Kev.
It wasn’t a slag against Forza, just a general observation of racing games.
As for the button combos, I prefer to use the stick for throttle, and R2 shoulder trigger for brake. Forced to use a clutch, I would put that on L2. Throttle modulation requires the finer inputs that the sticks allow.

phranc – It’s funny call a clutch a novelty, then hype weather, cockpit damage, and nighttime racing.
Most races will be postponed on account of poor weather. You would think you NASCAR fans would know this. Racing on rain soaked streets in a muscle car would not be a fun experience.
Racing at night doesn’t really appeal to most either. 180 mph with 200 ft, nighttime, visibility doesn’t sound like fun. No thanks. Other than the 24 hours of Le Mans, I can’t think of too many other night time races….. for good reason….
I heard GT5 gives damage to the cockpits of the cars. It has yet to be seen if it’s in every car or just “some cars” as the previews are stating. Damaging the cockpit would be useless for me, since I don’t use the cockpit cam too much. I crash even less…..
Either way, half-assed damage is worse than no damage at all, according to the GT fanboys. What’s even worse is that Kaz is claiming the damage in GT5 is “perfect”…
Wow….talk about ego……. I just can’t wait to see what passes for “perfect” to Kaz and the GT fanboys…

Thanks for proving you’ve never used triggers for acceleration and braking. The control is waaaay more accurate with triggers. Always has been.
Wait for it; if the PS4 launches with triggers you’ll swear how innovative they are and how the PS4 triggers give you throttle control that *no* other racing game *anywhere* can match.

You can’t use L2 for a clutch in GT5. GT5 doesn’t offer clutch use from what I’ve read. Ouch….. one *more* thing that Forza 3 does better…
