Nintendo’s Fils-Aime denies Wii HD
It doesn’t seem to matter how successful the Wii is, analysts and industry watchers consider there to be something missing. Which is why these same people have been talking about the possibility of a Wii HD or Wii 2 coming out in the near future seemingly forever. However, there is no new Wii on the way, at least according to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.
Rumors and speculation over a sequel to the Wii have been flying around for years now. Just over a week ago, one Web site claimed to have obtained leaked information about the Wii 2, which judging by the specs sounds exactly like the Wii HD.
This has now been unequivocally denied by Reggie Fils-Aime in a Game Trailers’ Nintendo special. According to VG247 he said:
Michael [Pachter] continues to be the only one that believes this is going to happen. I don’t know how forcefully we can say that there is no Wii HD.
So that’s it, straight from the horse’s mouth. Or is it? Fils-Aime has no reason to lie about the existence of hardware except for that prematurely announcing it could harm sales of the Wii, already dropping like a stone around the world. Ah, that would explain it then.
