No, I won’t be buying Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out today and is sure to sell in the millions. And why not? The first MW game was a masterpiece which still stands up as one of the best FPS of all time, especially when played online. But you know what? I won’t be buying it, at least not for a few months, because I consider Activision’s behavior with this title to be completely out of order.
The title of this post is in response to Negative Gamer’s ‘A Few Reasons NOT to Buy Modern Warfare 2‘. I agree with everything said in the article and it has hardened my resolve to give this title a miss.
First off, Activision is ripping us all off with the price and there is no justification for this attempt to milk gamers for as much cash as possible. Then there are the various editions, all of which are just more attempts to milk our pockets. There’s also the offensive FAGS promo video and the fact that the game is bound to be nothing more than a rehash of the first game.
I won’t be buying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare until the price comes down considerably. Not because I’m tight but because every sale made is justification for the price tag. And if the game sells well Activision wins.

$79 at Kmart, GAME price beats, so $78 at Game. I just called them, they are paying $35 for MW1 trade in.

I’ll try the game at a friend’s before buying. I played the first modern warfare, it was good, but I decided to give a miss. This doesn’t look like it will be too revolutionary. Online, that’s another story.

I will not be buying this game period…don’t care if I could get it for 10 bucks ain’t going to buy it. This game will sell massively on the 360 as the pre orders already show, every 12 year old loud mouth with a mic will be on Live throwing sticky grenades…while jacking off with the lights turned off and a pair of made in taiwan cheap night-vision goggles on there heads to see what they are doing.

I’m no advocate of piracy, but I find it funny that the games manufacturers,(and music industry) whinge and bleet about piracy and them being the victims, yet they have for YEARS and continue to royally rip of consumers (their loyal customers)
If they actually look after their customers and sell them at a reasonable price ( oh yeah and reasonable amount of levels too, they seem to get shorter and shorter …. ) They would probably find more people buying rather than pirating ??

I already got the game and played it and I can say…the game is not “all that”. same CoD 4 experience, graphics havent changed (imo). I was dissapointed in MW2 just as I was dissapointed in World at War, if it wasn’t for Nazi Zombies I would probably never touch that game again after playing it for 20 mins

In UK supermarkets it’s going to be sold for £26 ($43 US = $ 47 AUS) tonight at Sainsburys and Asda are running a national newspaper campaign sayiung they are selling it at £36 ($60 US = $65 AUS).
So, price is hardly the issue.
Rehashing old games?

It’s the biggest joke in the industry, wondering how long suckers, er, I mean punters, will continue to buy the same game titivated a little every year.
You might as well bash every FIFA, PES, NHL, Golf, F1, MotoGP, Superbike etc etc game that appears.

I like COD games and I’ve like them since I had the first and second on the PC. I bought this next one and can honestly say it’ll be for the SP missions as well cuz they, while short are well paced and exciting.
People here seem to be making this likes Activision a PS3 vs 360 thing.
Sure Activision said some stupid things about the PS3 price. Which obviously with the slim being developed was premature and asinine. Kotick was shown that a Software company should basically stfu and mind their own business when it comes to a hardware companies pricing structure. Especially when it was proved that it was the intention of Sony to drop the price. He’s a douche and he makes Activision look like dicks.
He’s also said things that should incite others. He’s made comments about eliminating the mod community….About wishing he could charge more than $60 for his games. Eliminating dedicated servers in PC games. Making 9vs9 the most PC players can get on the game.
Screwing over Call of Duties original fanbase is why you see the most people up in arms about this game lately.

Thank you Dave Parrack. It’s nice to see a blogger actually go against popular opinion and speak the truth.
Sequels should be improvements over the original, not just “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Activision pretty much stated that they were going to make a good game, but decided not to spend the money because it would sell regardless.

it doesnt matter for how much you “can” get the game in the UK, the price hike is still there and its retail price is $10 over the standard price for games. sure you can find it cheaper (everything can be found cheaper) but it doesnt change the fact that Activision didnt give a fuck about the UK market and took advantange of their most popular title to make extra cash at the consumer expenses

HH, the Australian game prices cannot be directly translated from an overseas price, it doesn’t work that way. Aussie games are inflated. We get ripped badly here, which is a reason why alot buy from an overseas source. As harry pointed out, you have to find an ok price, go to a price match shop, then trade another game to get a reasonable price.
You will NOT get a new release game here for 47-60 dollars without doing a trade first (except Haze maybe)

Yeah I am aware of that.
Nevertheless that is the experience here.
Several shops are blowing off all that cr@p about a price rise – here for instnce the regular full price for games on PS3 & Xbox is around the £40 – £45 level ($67 – $75 US /$72 – $81 AUS).
The original objective for Activision (if we are to believe all those ‘trying to engineer a price hike’ stories) was to take that up to £55 ($92 US – $99 AUS).
So, whatever the experience in other countries here at least you can see that not only have they failed laughably to hike prioces but the game is going on sale at several outlets for less than half that supposedly original new ceiling on prices.
As well as the supermarkets Amazon UK are doing a new Jasper Elite, MW2 & 2 new quality games (like FIFA 10, Borderlands etc) for £209.99.
Amazon UK are also doing the MW2 game on its own for £32.
I would find it extremely weird if the UK alone is the only one getting this kind of nice deal.

i played 10 mins yesterday, I wasnt impressed (graphics wise and gameplay wise)so I went back to Demon’s Souls for the rest of the day. MP might be another story, I will give feedback on that once i try it.

Now that The World Series is over and it’s official that the New York Yankees are the best team in baseball it’s time for me to get back into regular gaming.
I’ll be playing MAG beta and CODMW2 online to compare. So far it appears that MAG doesn’t hold a candle in the graphics dept. but what can you expect with so many people playing. I’m soooo phyched. I’m a couple trophies away from Plat’in R+C.(damn i respect you guy more for having that patience) I usually just move on to the next game.

update on MW2
MW2 mp mode is a blast. way batter then MW1 and WaW.
story mode is short but action packed and full of “WOW” moments, my brother started playing today he is almost at the end of the Single player campaign.
