Modern Warfare 2 set to top GTA IV
Apart from me and a few other brave souls who will resist the hype and refuse to buy Modern Warfare 2, it seems the world and his dog are set to buy the game as soon as they possibly can. Pre-orders across the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 stand at 4.5 million and it looks as though the latest Call of Duty game could outsell Grand Theft Auto IV in its first week on sale to become the biggest ever launch of an entertainment product.
When GTA IV was released in 2008 it sold 6 million copies in its first week. This equated to $500 million in revenue and gave the game a new all-time sales record for any form of entertainment. But Modern Warfare 2 could be about to knock it off its lofty perch.
VG Chartz claims pre-orders now stand at 4.5 million around the world, and that means first week sales of 6 million to 7 million are expected. If that happens then Modern Warfare 2 will rake in the cash for Activision and Infinity Ward. I’m sure the jumped-up price tag won’t hurt either, although it’s been enough to put me off.

The 24hr Sainsburys (selling @ £26 = $43 US = $ 47 AUS) near me was sold out about 2hrs before it was due to go on sale at midnight (they stopped people lining up).
They had 120 copies for each.
I’ll hit the other one tomorrow morning.
The sales rep told me they will have the offer on for 5 days and will be getting several new stock deliveries during those 5 days.
£26 for the brand new game pon release.
Total bargain.

It is going to sell like crazy. I’m not exactly hyped for it, I mean, I’ll try it out before buying just to see the overall quality.
I actually can’t wait until the next monster FPS franchise comes along. But FPS will die out someday. First there were fighters, then platformers, then RPGs, then action, now FPS (I think. Bad list probably) I miss 3D platformers the most. I won’t lie–I still sneak the N64 once in a while and play Banjo Tooie. I was shocked to find over 200 hours on my main save file. Super Mecha Death Christ 2000 B.C. 4.0 BETA I was a loser (and only got 55 jiggies! Dang!).

Everyone here in New York can get the game even a week before it comes out stores don’t give a shit about dates here. Everyone seems to get a copy always. When i went to the Killzone 2 launch night had over 200 copies all gone in a heart bit but in a few hours it was full again with new copies ready to sell.

Does anybody else get the feeling that this game is kind of review proof to the point where reviewers feel obligated to practically give it a perfect score (GTA4) even though it doesn’t deserve it?
In a way that’s a compliment in itself as it shows a game has gotten so popular the reviewer doesn’t want to be the one guy not pushing it towards perfection.
I will retain final judgment until I play the game later today. Early reviews point to a disjointed SP storyline. As long as it’s action packed I couldn’t really care if it had a story or not. COD were never story specific type games. They pulled you out of it as soon as you “turned into a different person”.

BTW.. I would have given GTA4 as solid 9 easily. The small problems are what would have driven down the score. I really found the cover system and the overall shooting element bothersome and painstaking. The massive amount and the overall package are what blows people away and more than likely makes them go perfect 10 crazy.

I will give GTA IV hmm a 7 or 8 because the driving and the walking feels horrible like force. I wish it was like Vice City or Liberty City Stories or even San Andreas that was one of the best thing this PlayStation series had. Hopefully they will fix that engine if that’s the problem when they release AGENT.

but while I like CoD MP mode, some small issues kept me from coming back to. the Party system sucks, hosted games suck (lag, when host quit everyone gets kicked out, etc). while CoD online game is great, it lack of online features

Back on topic, I played an hour or so of MW2. Am absolutely loving it so far. I can’t see how a game where you can mow down hundreds of civillians in an airport can be passed classification in Australia yet a game where you mow down zombies cannot, but I shouldn’t complain too much.
Anyone finished the single player campaign yet? I heard it’s rather short.

As for calling me a PS3 fanboy, well that’s wrong. I do lean more towards the Sony, I’ve always said that, I think it has a better line up recently and the online is free but I do beast the 360 a bit as well, especially with the Liberty City Episodes and ODST.
