Games to play while boycotting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
While the majority of the gaming community plays Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, those boycotting the game may find themselves looking for other games. Never fear as Gamer.Blorge is here to help solve your gaming dilemma, with a list of alternative games you could be playing.
With the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, millions of gamers will be glued to their screen ranking up hundreds of hours online. However, there is a sizable chunk of gamers (est. 200k – 300k) that have decided to boycott the game for all kinds of reasons – price jacks, controversial FAGS video, no dedicated server support, no mod support, ridiculous Prestige edition, Bobby Kotick’s smug smile, Activision, etc…
Kotaku created their own list, and I thought it would be helpful to throw together our own list of alternative shooters to play for our readers.
Left 4 Dead 2
Yes, I know this game has its own boycott going. However, if your on the COD:MW2 boycott and not on the L4D2 one, then why not? Although, L4D2 may be a 1.5 iteration, you can’t deny the fact survival mode is addictive. With new maps and abilities it may be difficult to stay away from this addictive zombie shooter.
Uncharted 2
This game is one of the best games to hit this year. The multiplayer offers an addictive competitive and co-op experience that will keep you playing for hours. The co-op survival mode is viciously addictive as well. When you get to round six and two fully armored enemies with Gatling guns come out, with helicopters doing fly-by shootings – you know you’ve died and gone to shooter heaven.
Halo 3: ODST
Despite the fact this game is an expansion pack at its core, it has high replayability with another disk full of maps. The single player campaign features an open world that could warrant multiple playthroughs if not to get all the achievements. Most of the online maps are old from Halo 3, but you certainly won’t tire of them. Also, Amazon is selling it on the cheap for $47 currently.
Killzone 2
This game is a bit older than the other games, but its still rocks an awesome online multiplayer experience. Pick up the map pack bundle for $12 to get: “Napalm & Cordite,” “Steel & Titanium,” and “Flash & Thunder.” You will be able to play competitive multiplayer on awesome maps like the ones with two moving trains, with the danger of getting decapitated or in a deserted town with a huge drop ship hovering above randomly decimating everything in a 500ft radius.
Borderlands
This game may look like Fallout 3, but make no mistake about this RPG, its a fast moving, twitch reflex shooter. The game has a weapons generator that creates thousands of weapons on the fly such as a sniper rifle that will shoot electricity bolts and a rocket launcher that acts as a spread gun shooting 20 rockets. With the option to have up to four players jumping in on the fly, this game will have you playing all day.
There you have it folks, five spectacular alternative shooters to keep you occupied for the next two months while the COD: MW2 hype dies down. If you just want to stay away from shooters for the time being there are other great games in different genres such as: Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, and Dragon Age: Origins. However, for those interested in COD: Modern Warfare 2, keep a sharp eye out for my review of the game.

Why is there a close up picture of that ladies’ butt on Borderlands? Smells like hentai to me
November 10th, 2009
Left 4 Dead is gay and Halo STD is garbage. Borderland looks just decent but a little corny.
Here is what gamers should be playing no doubt.
#1 UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves
#2 Killzone 2
#3 Resistance 2
#4 Resistance: Fall of Man
#5 Warhawk
#6 Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time
#7 Demon’s Souls
#8 UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune
#9 Metal gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
#10 SOCOM II: U.S. NAVY SEALs

@Ivan
Halo STD??? Really?? Your droping to that level
halo gets a lot of abuse and I’m not a huge fan but come it’s not a bad game the firefight mode is awwesome with friends

You got that right. Is not a bad game is a horrible game.

I can understand PC gamers boycotting this game over the servers issue but wtf would anyone else (assuming they enjoy this sort of game) want to do that for?
In the UK at least (and I doubt we are alone) the price issue died as soon as the big retailers decided not to go with any of that BS about hiking prices (and presumably Activision must also have dropped the idea to be supplying them at prices where they could drop the retail cost so low).
I paid £26 today as opposed to the usual UK new game price of £40 – £45.
Yet we were told a few months back Activision were going to try and sell it at somewhere between £50 – £55.
That would have annoyed me (and I was fully prepared to wait 6mths or so until prices dropped to what I paid today, but I didn’t have to.
So what’s the big deal?
Ridiculous Prestige Edition?
As if anyone sane was ever going to bother with that sad idiocy.
Why would I care?
KZ2?
“Pick up the map pack bundle for $12″
Really?
Fack me, and I thouight XBL map packs could be pricey sometimes.
Makes the Gears multi-pack a total bargain.
November 10th, 2009
Epic fail again LoL. No one cares.
November 10th, 2009
No Ivan, the fact is ‘no-one cares what a lying fool has to say’ applies totally to you.
500gb SSD in June, right?
LMAO
So impressive & credible. Not.

“Ratchet and Clank <3 lol. Nearly got the platinum"
How far away?
I need to beat it again on hard and challenge mode, and get through "my blaster runs hot" which i hate btw.
November 10th, 2009
im picking up R+C today, and maybe borderlands.
November 10th, 2009
@harry
Actully harry the €12 for the map packs is a very good bargain for the 6 maps cause the work that goes into the maps and the detail is just amazing and one of the levels has one of the coolest things you will see in a video game
My friend was also dumb enough to pay the prestige edition but I got to say the night vision googles are awesome I was running outside with them they work very well
November 10th, 2009
I’ll definitely have to cut down some time on Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted 2 to fit this game in. It better be good…
November 10th, 2009
UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves is getting free and pay DLC before this year ends can’t for both DLC. UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves is going to have hooked until i died and I’m immortal.
If any of you lucky PS3 owners wanna play Co-Op or Competitive with me on UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves just let me know here or the PLAYSTATION Network. Our free online gaming service from Sony.

‘How far away?’
@ Phtanc: Just gotta do Hard and Challenge. That won’t take long now I don’t have to do any side quests anymore.
On MBRH just save all the children and shoot the exploding robots straight away, they’ll rack up the multipliers. Just concentrate mainly on dodging bullets and you’ll be fine.
November 10th, 2009
I also need practically all the gold bolts in the great clock and I have to finish all space missions. I’m not sure what space missions I have to finish as I thought I completed them all. I have all Zoni, All weapon upgrades and The Rhino V.
I thought that included all the space fighter missions but the enemy satellites reappear after you leave sector and come on back so it can’t be that.
Thanks for the tip on MBRH. I find it cheesy as well because of the exploding robots that seem to kill me and the civilians I’m supposed to save.

lol
I love when they say that
November 10th, 2009
“and Halo STD is garbage”. Lol I see that you’re stealing one of my catch phrases Ivan
. But hey, when the price drops on Halo 3 ODST, then I’ll buy it. And the same goes for Resistance 2. There’s no way in HELL that I’m paying $59.99 for that game! And why is it STILL priced at that range when Gears of War 2 is priced at $39.99?
Bloodsuckers……
November 10th, 2009
The Future of Sega:
Gears of War 2 sucks Resistance 2 doesn’t. And not all game should cost $40 or $30 WTF games are $60 if you can’t afford them don’t buy them. Anyways you couldn’t play resistance 2 with the power of the 3 or slim.
November 10th, 2009
SW,
whats ur lvl?
November 10th, 2009
Ivan,
If these companies want to stay in business then they need to act accordingly to customer’s demands. And I say Resistance 2 is not worth the full retail price. And it’s NOT that I can’t afford it. It’s just that I refuse to purchase it until the price drops.
Supply and Demand my friend. Take a class on Macroeconomics….you’ll learn
November 10th, 2009
And by the way Ivan, I probably own more PS3 games than you. In total I have about 29 or 30 PS3 games. And I have the proof to back it up. And for my 360 I have 10 games in total. Technically 9 due to the Halo 3 Legendary Edition.
So don’t tell me that I can’t afford certain games.
November 10th, 2009
You’re right. R2 should be in at least the greatest hots by now. It sold enough to qualify. It doesn’t make sense having it listed at 59.99 when new games come out at a cheaper price.
Buy it used….
November 10th, 2009
used its $40.
and why he keeps asking us the same question, go to the Sony website and file a complaint.
I bought the game when it came out, so I couldnt careless how much the game cost now

The Future of Sega:
LMFAO sure what ever.
phranctoast:
Hey buddy this is the way this business works you need to requirements the way they are.
Sony introduced the program for PlayStation in 1997, games could become Greatest Hits titles after selling at least 150,000 copies and being on the market for at least a year. Minimum sales required eventually rose to 250,000. When the program came to PlayStation 2 in 2002, games could become Greatest Hits titles after selling at least 400,000 copies and being on the market for at least 9 months. Suggested retail prices of Greatest Hits titles were initially $24.99, but they now typically retail for $19.99. Though Sony-published games are virtually guaranteed to eventually be Greatest Hits titles after they meet their sales and age marks, other companies are not required to release their titles on the Greatest Hits label even if they meet the criteria.
In 2006, Sony extended the Greatest Hits program to the PlayStation Portable. To qualify, a title must be on the market for at least 9 months and have sold 250,000 copies or more. The Greatest Hits price for PlayStation Portable games typically begins at $19.99.
On July 28th, 2008, the program was introduced on the PlayStation 3. A PlayStation 3 game must be on the market for 10 months and sell at least 500,000 copies to meet the Greatest Hits criteria. PlayStation 3 Greatest Hits titles currently sell at $29.99.
November 10th, 2009
“PlayStation 3 game must be on the market for 10 months ”
KZ2 is already platinum hits in UK. so they must have changed it, or maybe first party titles are allowed to brake the rules
November 10th, 2009
and R2 is out for a year this month and it sold a lot more than 500K.
November 10th, 2009
Resistance 1 was selling for $60 until a month before R2 came out (alsmot 2 years later), same for Ratchet and Clank Future (it just became a greatest hits). so I think its Insomniac that is controling the price
November 10th, 2009
@Roca – I’m still like 171.
Been playing ballad of gay tony & Neverwinter Nights 2 (yes I know..).
November 10th, 2009
Older Ps3 games are always generally higher than xbox360 games. Xbox360 games get discounted more often than Ps3 games.
November 10th, 2009
@ SW,
im at lvl 167. do you have any precious items?
1-Epee Rapier
2-Foe’s Ring from killing Yuria (Mephistopheles’s quest)
3-Talisman of Beasts
4-Blind
5-Blueblood Sword
6-Needle of Eternal Agony
7-Lava Bow
8-Insanity Catalyst
9-Morion Blade
November 10th, 2009
I notice that if a game comes out on the 360 first it usually sees a fairly quick ps3 reduction in price.
Oblivion
Bioshock
Lost Planet
even Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
Thats why I’m waiting on Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. It’ll drop to $30 in some special sometime this month.
November 10th, 2009
Roca
“another thread hijacked by PS fanboys lol
I love when they say that”
Pathetic mentality reveal yet again.
It’s also a pretty dumb thing to say when this isn’t a thread about Xbox so how could it be “hijacked by PS3 owners”?
Idiot shill.
November 10th, 2009
@Roca just the talisman of beasts and lavabow.
I don’t play for trophies or items, I play to kill
November 10th, 2009
phranctoast:
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 won’t go down in price anytime soon.
“I notice that if a game comes out on the 360 first it usually sees a fairly quick ps3 reduction in price.”
I don’t really get this much. Do you think that because the game was released first on Xbox 360 with cheaper quality and then remastered for PS3 it will see a price cut in just a few months. I doubt that’s the way it works. Also even if a game achieves GREATEST HITS requirements they are not obligated to comes out as that right away or anytime for that matter is optional.
November 10th, 2009
I play for souls
I also play for the 5 D’s of Demon’s Souls:
Dodge, Dodge, Dodge, Dodge, and Die
but the talisman and the bow will be welcome

November 10th, 2009
I’m hearing mixed things about MW2’s MP on PC at this point. I’ve seen games with all green bars and typical all orange except the host…
A buddy from my clan says 9 out of 10 games have had shitty pings…
November 10th, 2009
console verions is always fucked up. when me or one of my friend are host when get full 4 bars. when we are not host I get 1 or 2 bars. its annoying sometimes. I have tried wired and wireless but it still the same
November 10th, 2009
@Ivan
not too sure what to tell you. The games I mentioned had seriosness price cuts on the ps3 and fairly quick. The only reason I could think of is the fact that they are older games even I they are new to ps3
November 10th, 2009
Probably the reason why PS3 games don’t come down in price in because
1. They don’t sell enough.
2. The Bluray disk is expensive.
November 10th, 2009
It cost $25 for 1 Bluray and I can buy 25 DVD for $20
November 10th, 2009
@ CAD,
whats ur email dude. I got you the code (10 cars n 2 tracks), plus one more code for an unlockable Audi.
November 10th, 2009
@CAD those are retail prices. The media itself costs 1.50-3.00USD single/double layer to produce, according to some reports a few years back. I am sure the cost per disc to produce has dropped since then.
I see the sense in sony’s decision to go with BD, a format they basically own. The PS3 can currently be hacked with BD copies of games, due to the nature of PS3 titles coding taking advantage of multiple tracks of redundant information for faster read times. Sony makes more per disc sold on blank BDs than it does in licensing fees per copy of legit gaming. The production is far too complex and costly for a chinese factory to be built to produce viable knockoffs, yet.
So, even if it does become heavily pirated, they still make money. I like this approach to piracy better, personally. And if BD stays well below saturation of DVD, thus keeping the BD proliferation from driving down the cost of blank BDs to where DVD5 is now, then they are financially safeguarded against the future.
November 10th, 2009
Ivan it’s true. I have no reason to lie. Plus I have the evidence to back it up. No offense Ivan but I’m probably more of a PS3 fanboy than you. In the past two years I would buy PS3 games the SECOND they would arrive in stores. Ha ha well not literally but you understand what I mean.
My PS3 collection almost macthes my Xbox collection. And I have 30 original Xbox games in total. You can believe what you want but I know for a fact that I own the most PS3 games compared to you. So shove it
November 10th, 2009
Also I have 3 PS2 games and 3 PS1 games. What do you have to show forth?
November 10th, 2009
Or shall I copy your sequence of listing “nonsense” on this page? lol
November 10th, 2009
@ Roca,
I wasn’t asking a question. I was making a hypothetical statement dip wad. Unless you have something important to say (that’s WORTH my time) just stfu. Thank you.
November 10th, 2009
In the voice of that guy from UT.
Q-Q-Q-Q-Quad Post…
November 10th, 2009
Lol sorry SW. I wanted to make sure my comments were THOROUGHLY read so Roca The Red Noise Lamedeer could understand. lol.
November 10th, 2009
Oh, IGN review is in. The Verdict?
Graphics look awesome (probably not better than Killzone 2… which got a 9.5 in graphics while this got a 10 -__-. Picky me.), sound is awesome, multiplayer is awesome, and… dun-duladuhh! Campaign sort of stinks. Less than 5 hours long. 9.5/10!!!
Unfortunately, SP>MP, for me anyways. But it looks damn good. I’ll pick it up. THEN compare it to Uncharted 2 and make the ultimate decision…
November 10th, 2009
I haven’t even looked at single player. Multiplayer is just crazy I tells ya!
November 10th, 2009
hahaha @ roca the red noise lamedeer.
November 11th, 2009
CAD said: “Probably the reason why PS3 games don’t come down in price in because
1. They don’t sell enough.
2. The Bluray disk is expensive.”
RUBBISH. Xbox titles are exactly the same price as the ps3 counterparts.
Ps3 games are selling fine.
If the ps3 games aren’t coming down in price, why isn’t the 360 games ….. if we go with that argument, us 360 owners are getting ripped off more than the ps3 owners because the dvd format is far cheaper than BD, so there is no reason why the 360 games shouldn’t be far cheaper ??
November 11th, 2009
what i heard about modern warfare 2 is that instead of having zombies they were having aliens like area 51 type of thing? that sounds tight to counter the left 4 dead survival mode you mentioned above…but besides all that look at kz2 compared to halo odst…kz2 just looks so beautiful man…o hope kz3 has a game mode like gears or something i thinks its called horde or something…some little mini game would be nice
November 11th, 2009
The game still managers to be more then just look like a expansion pack.
November 11th, 2009
As far as “boycotting COD”… I’m not sure I would call exercising my right to play games that interest me “boycotting”. I’m simply choosing not to play it.
Just like I didn’t by COD 3, COD MW, or COD WaW. And I would be buying the COD they through together for next year’s holiday season either.
November 11th, 2009
*and I won’t be buying…
November 11th, 2009
Barnabe Jones:
Yeah buy MAG instead when it comes out this January 2010. This game sucks MW2.
November 11th, 2009
personally, shooters games get old pretty quickly.
most playtime CoD has had from me is from playing nazis zombie (that shit never gets old, specially after map pack 3)
November 11th, 2009
I guess the pricing of games may depend on where a person lives. I always find more sales on Xbox360 games. In fact, I sometimes wish I could get Ps3 titles for the same price.
November 11th, 2009
“RUBBISH. Xbox titles are exactly the same price as the ps3 counterparts.”
twilight may have a point, but it’s the same here… there are more 360 titles for less than PS3 titles.
For example, NewEgg currently has 20 360 titles for under $10, but only 3 PS3 titles priced similarly.
PS3 newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2082820545%204024&name=%240%20-%20%2410
360 newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2083230516%204024&name=%240%20-%20%2410
Where the prices usually stay the same are for higher rated more popular titles. Walmart and Amazon also have about 20 more titles for less, only about half of which have received generally favorable reviews or higher on Metacritic. I suspect this is at least partly due to some coming out a year earlier. In PS3’s favor, Fallout 3 is on sale ($24.98) at Amazon now for 12 dollars less than the 360 version:
amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=fallout+3&x=0&y=0
November 11th, 2009
actually, Fry’s Electronics constantly has sales on 360 games. no such luck for ps3 games.
in fact, they had MW2 for $50 for the 360…until it sold out….
November 11th, 2009
“no such luck for ps3 games.”
i buy most of my games when they come out, so I dont expect to be less than $60.
November 11th, 2009

Kev,
Not yet, but I don’t think he has a 360 right now anyway, so it wouldn’t do much good. If he gets one in the future I’m sure he’ll send one my way.
