Modern Warfare 2 beats GTA IV to become fastest-selling game of all time
As promised, I didn’t rush out and buy Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 on launch day. But millions of people did. In fact, so many people couldn’t wait even 24 hours to make the purchase that Modern Warfare 2 has now snatched the title of fastest-selling game of all time away from Grand Theft Auto IV.
GTA IV managed to sell 6 million units in its first week when it released in 2008. But it looks as though Modern Warfare 2 has managed that in its first 24 hours. According to VGChartz, Activision has sold 7 million copies of Modern Warfare 2 on its first day of release.
These figures break down as 4.2 million in America, 1.2 million in the U.K., and 350,000 each in France and Germany. The Xbox 360 accounts for around 55 percent of sales; the PS3 33 percent; the PC the remaining 12 percent.
I’m afraid this will only encourage Activision and Infinity Ward to up game prices and fudge other aspects of releases. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are plagued with issues which are currently being patched.

I am not surprised by these sales figures, the game is fantastic. I haven’t touched the multiplayer stuff yet, but the single player campaign is non stop. And IW showed me some love, there’s a blow up doll in the upstairs bathroom of a cabin if screenshots are to be believed.
I heard the PS3 version is having some multiplayer issues? Is anyone here having those problems? I know that trophy support and game invites were broken on release, but patched. Anyway, I hope they fix it for you soon.

Oh I am loving this game. I’m on the level after the oil rig where the helecopters are flying to that castle. Dave like I said to Ivan cut the bullshit and get the game dude. Game of the Year and I will put money on that. As for issues, well I have not seen any. I played the multiplayer for just a bit and that was a bit annoying as I kept getting shot. I realized why I never liked the Multiplayer from the first, it’s because 2-3 bullets and your dead. There is no oppertunity to even fight back. At least you respond.

I played a few hours of MW2 this evening at a friends place (PS3). We had no problem getting into games, but had a few Host disconnects in that time. Ugg.
Meh, they didn’t invest SHIT in improving the graphics or game engine, barely any noticable improvement over CoD4. COD5 was felt like a bigger graphical leap from CoD4. IW should not be rewarded for this rehash, but they will be, /sigh.

This isn’t my first rodeo. The PS3 version experiences the same differences that COD4 and WAW had between the console versions. It was not a gamebreaking difference then, just as it isn’t a gamebreaking difference now. Your absurd assertation that the PS3 version of MW2 suffers so much as to be indistinguishable from the 2year old COD4, is idiotic and reeks of your usual bias.
I don’t dispute that the 360 version has brighter colors and better AA, but it is pretty telling that your first response to my criticism of the game in general, is to take a shot at the PS3. Grow up. If you can’t admit the EA like treatment of the COD series is an insult to gamers that appreciate the advancement of the art of gaming, then don’t even bother stepping up to the plate. the ps3 version is getting a patch supposedly, that will fix some issues.
having said that, the elephant in the room is the fact the ps3 is supposed to be this uber-computer with teraflops of capabilities, using “the only hd format” in bluray, and struggles to keep up with something that costs less and supposedly “not as powerful.
either way, this game has always been about the gameplay, but the graphics certainly add to the immersion. the better they are, the happier i am. I think most gamers would agree since pc gamers pay more for their vid cards than we paid for our 360.

There is not much difference between the graphics on this game. The Ps3 system is capable of producing excellent graphics. Again, there is no game on the Xbox360 that has exceeded Ps3’s top games in visual performance.

Answer: That is Bullshit and if I were you I would find another “Tipster”. That is a very sad excuse and not even a good one at that..IW and Activ decided to use there paying customer as Beta to this game because they were to cheap to do a proper one before it came out. How long has this game been out and look at all the bugs that have been reported. They already have patches and repatches they are having to apply.

After playing a lot of the game (MP included) It is my opinion that it won’t receive GOTY.
First off. I love the SP game. It’s great. Lots of action but the story telling fails in almost every way. It makes you not care for the story too much and just anticipate getting back into the fight. Thats where this game and Uncharted 2 stand apart.
I would put U2 into the category of best SP experience ever and I don’t find myself having the same feeling towards MW2. 6 hours compared to 14 is a big deal also.
The MP is where the life is and like the original it does not fail in that category. It may be safe to say that some people who own this game may not ever even play the SP experience which is kind of a shame.
Great game.. hell yeah.
GOTY…if Uncharted 2 never came out I’d say this would be a solid contender.

If this game was a movie it would be one of the most incoherent moves ever. It’s almost the Michael Bay equivalent for games. Enjoy but make sure you turn off your brain.
Not sure what all the MP is broken BS. I was playing it Tuesday and Wednesday (early) with very little issues other than getting owned. The trophy support was somehthing I straight up wasn’t looking for so therefore I can’t comment on whether or not thats broken. Theres supposed to be a patch out tomorrow. By that time I should be on my second run through and I’ll bump up difficulty.

I like the additional stuff in the MP. The care packages are cool. The game will definitely see some awards.
It will take the shooter category over Killzone 2, ODST, Uncharted 2 and L4D2.
Overall GOTY and Action/Adventure game will go to U2. Batman should also be in the Action category.
Racing will be Forza 3 for 360 and overall
and NFS Shift or Shift 2 for the PS3.
RPG will be either Demon’s Souls are Dragons Age. Demon’s Souls will win for PS3 and may take overall due to it’s original online implementation.
Fighing will be SF4 for Tekken 6. Probably the nod going towards SF4.
Sports will be between Fifa and MLB the show 09′
New IP will be InFamous or Boderlands.

Kev I agree. We never come out talking about Graphics like it’s the first time we have seen something so great. The only reason we bring it up is because these PS3 boys are always digging at 360 games. I don’t blame them as the first 3 year was a disaster in the graphic department for the PS3. I think overall they mention Graphics so much because they need to justify their purchase and make list of games in the process. It’s ok guy. Enjoy your Unchartered 2 because if a game takes that long to come out it better be good graphics. But Carl B already said there are jaggies in Unchartered 2 so it’s not perfect and really I have not seen anything on the PS3 that I have not already seen on the 360 but keep hyping it because I knoow it’s the first time you have seen such good looking graphics since your PS2 days.

CAD – I think the reason why the ps3 fanboys think they graphics are on par or better is because they are astounded by the increase from the ps2.
They tend to live in a fantasy world as the 360’s gpu has been publicly stated to be faster and better by industry legends like John Carmack. If sony had found a way to create better graphics, using weaker technology, this would overturn the entire graphics industry to include PC graphics cards.
The reality is, graphics creation is a numbers game, with some art style thrown in. Only the most ignorant of fanboy would believe the ps3 could create better graphics than the 360 or PC using a weaker processor, older technology (doesn’t even use the Unified Shader Architecture that pc and 360 graphics processor use), and less accessible memory. New technology handles the numbers better than old tech. otherwise, innovation wouldn’t exist.
Ps3 fanboys are very easily hyped into believing anything. Here’s some of their past hypes that have failed. Given this list, why would anyone believe any claims about the ps3 capabilities at this point?
1. people will pay any price for the ps3
2. there are “150 million gamers” just waiting for the ps3 to launch
3. the ps3 has the best looking games because bluray is bigger
4. the ps3 has the best looking game because of “the cell”
5. PSN is “better” than xbl b/c it’s free
6. there will be no lag on PSN because of the “cell”
I’d like to believe the ps3 fanboys hype abou the ps3’s graphics capabilities, but I’d rather believe the proof and the professional opinion of industry legends. I will, however, draw the line at developers claims when said developer is being paid by the console maker. Ie; sony’s first party claims…..

kz2 has draw distances that fog out after 50 yards. just about every 360 game has better draw distances. GeOW 2 has better lighting, textures and animations. Any FPS game has better AI than KZ2. don’t believe me? go read the reviews…..

You also used descriptions of Gears of War to rip into Killzone 2.
Killzone 2 has amazing draw distance. Gears is the game where you only see 50 yards in front of you. I love the look for the game as it gives it a cinematic look, but its less taxing on the system.
Have you seen the lighting in KZ2? It’s f’in amazing.
As for the AI, it has little to do with graphics.
