Xbox 360 Project Natal launch details leak
This summer saw a battle of motion-sensing controllers begin. At E3 2009 both Microsoft and Sony unveiled new systems designed to place gamers in the action and grab some of the casual gaming market from Nintendo. Sony is aiming to launch its effort in the spring of 2010, but details are still thin on the ground. However, details of Project Natal on the Xbox 360 have now leaked online.
According to MCV, Microsoft will launch Natal in November 2010 with a simultaneous worldwide release. Five million units are being manufactured for launch, 14 games are due to be available from day one, and the whole thing is only going to cost £50 ($83) in the U.K. The price in the U.S. is likely to be nearer $50 because the U.K. always gets shafted on price. Either way, that price makes the product an impulse buy costing around the same as a new game.
There will be a mix of SKUs released, with console plus camera bundles as well as the camera by itself available to buy. Interestingly, Microsoft is treating the release of Natal like a console launch – that’s how important the company feels the product is and how much longevity it feels it will give the Xbox 360 going forward.

Motion sensing always made me uneasy since the Wii, but I hope this is better. What I dread is that they will pretty much forget about everything besides Natal, and that the new Xbox would come out about a year after Natal, and the 360 is dumped. I don’t think it’ll go like that, I honestly hope it ends up being good. But nothing beats the good ol’ controller. But this is lined up to be a big plus on the xbox side. It might actually pull the 360 ahead of the PS3 when it comes out (that’s if you agree with the trend that 360 owned PS3 in 06/07, they evened out in 08, PS3 is currently owning 360 in 09/10, and 360 will probably pull back forward. All opinion aside =P)

do you take a good look at which audince MS was targeting when they showcased Natal at E3? it might be useful for “some” hardcore games but the whole thing is targeted to the casual market. Rare was working on a sequel to Kameo and Banjo and MS made them cancel the project to instead focus on casual games for Natal

Though i know, casual gaming has a bigger part to play, but u do realize we are talking abt ps3 and 360 here, not wii, where the whole gaming sticks arnd motion control.. if we ll get 2 to 3 good games per year for wand and natal, i suppose thats a plus in my book, when u consider all those exclusives and multiplats on 360 and ps3..
Come to think of it, i suppose the main reason why wii gets boring quickly for other people, is coz of the inabilty to play games in normal fashion.. everything is based arnd motion control.. Its wii biggest strength as well as its biggest weakness..
For me i suppose, a good natal game once in a while will be worth it..

Perhaps phranc, but it does seem both the wand and natal will have a lot more weight, support, and games behind them when they come out than the eye or camera have ever had in the past. In either case, these are just early forays by the big corporations to get started into something, that with enough advancements in tech to back it up, could be pretty superb for gaming. It won’t happen this gen, as this is just trying out the water, and probably not even next, but I would imagine after that the gamescape and it’s controls could look quite different (not quite “PS9″ though). Most these size corporations R&D look between 1-5 decades out at a minimum… this is just the beginning.

The benefit of Natal over the wand is that it can easily be used in conjunction with a normal controller. I just hope that MS implement it in that way, otherwise it will be no better than the Wii. Let’s wait and see what MS offer. I also doubt the £50 price. £100 would sound much more realistic.

I say that head tracking is the way to go. That sole feature could make the Wand and Natal worthwhile. The market is trying to force users to get 3D HD equipments, with Natal and the Wand´s camera they can skip that without the need for 3D glasses.

For sure Fabel 3 will use Natal, Gears 3 will use Natal because Cliff or Mark had mentioned they have been using it before they had announced Natal at E3. Halo Reach may use it and all those developers that said they love it at TGS. Ubisoft said they will use it. As much as there will be casual games for Natal Microsoft knows who it’s audience is and that is the Hard Core Gamers so I think there will be a good mix of both especially if the vest rumour is true then you can expect hardcore titles to use Natal as well.

The only game i like that are on both consoles but i prefer them on Xbox 360 are GTA IV and Bioshock. I know PS3 has a better Bioshock but i don’t care.
And i hope Fable 3 gets cancel because i hate that game even more then Halo. The only game Microsoft has that i like a lot is MechAssault.

Once again, the top selling multi-platform title goes to 360 by a landslide (Borderlands), and PS3 doesn’t even show on the top ten for it. 360 even has one more exclusive than the PS3 in the top ten. Uncharted 2 was a great game btw, although short and an easy plat.

This would fly as a sole explanation, except the 360 also single-handedly beat out the Wii (the absolute best selling current gen-released console to date) in total software sales for the month.
The Wii lead in the US is about 12 million units over 360. Which would “obviously translate to more sales”, except it doesn’t. Btw, the 360 lead in the US is estimated to be as little as 3-4 million units now, so the PS3 seems to be catching up, at least in hardware sales. Congrats to Sony.

No game (aside from wii-fit) can maintain first week sales past their first week, even near christmas. Forza3 is no wii-fit. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it get close to 400k for november, and perhaps even hold another 400k in december if there are enough FM3 desirers without the game by then.
FM series has not statistically done this well ever, not even close, so again I highly doubt this will be the game to elevate to more that just another series for the system. It is no GT either, heh.

I know VGC isn’t always the most accurate Happy, but right now it seems to be the only thing to go off that is close:

As you can see, Forza 3 did 120,000 more than Infamous in the same two week period, but Forza is also a sequel with a larger fanbase. F3 is not doing to so well compared to Unhcarted 2, however, which has 194,000 more than F3 in that first two week period.
Like you said though, we’ll have to actually wait for Nov NPD, but I doubt Forza 3 will sell 50% than Uncharted 2 did in the same period by that time. Just a guess though.

This would be true if it was actually outselling Microsoft in software, i.e. the primary profit for console manufacturing companies, but that is not the case, as 360 walked all over not only PS3 for October, but also Wii:
Microsoft – 1,231,000 (5 titles)
Nintendo – 924,000 (3 titles)
Sony – 750,000 (2 titles)
Not bad for a company that is still relatively new to the home console games industry. Maybe next month, or next year, or sometime before this generation is effectively over, Sony will finally be back where it was last gen, in first place in not only software sales, but also total current gen home console sales. Until then, Microsoft and Nintendo continue to embarrass Sony in total software sales/mo and total hardware sales this gen.
Regardless, I will still continue to enjoy great exclusives and multiplatform titles for each console, regardless of sales. Right now and for the near future, at least in my opinion, Sony has the best exclusive titles lined up for PS3. Next stop, God of War III Collection on the 19th.

Actually Carl “Brutal Legends” did get marketed quite a bit..Isn’t “Brutal Legends” also a multiplat? So is your sell numbers for the X-Box only or for both consoles? Since “Demons Souls” is PS3 only with hardly any marketing behind it except word of mouth then Roca is right it didn’t do to shabby now did it? Did you play BL and if so was it any good??

Demon’s Souls wasn’t advertised at all. Brutal Legend being the latest Tim Schafer game in itself is more advertising than Demon’s Souls ever received.
