Bobby Kotick makes easy $20 mil from Modern Warfare 2 gamers
Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision might be one of the most hated figures in the gaming industry right now, but you can’t deny his brilliance. Straight off the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Kotick made a cool $20 million off-loading Activision stocks.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been touted by Activision as the biggest entertainment launch of all time. The game has sold nearly five million units across all platforms in a matter of days. According to Kotaku, Kotick earns further admiration from gamers across the world when it was revealed that he off-loaded two million Activision shares after the launch of COD:MW2.
Apparently, Kotick acquired the stocks back in 2000 when they were worth $1.03 each. He off-loaded them right after the launch of COD:MW2 after the value shot up to $11.50 per share totaling $20.2 million. That Kotick is one smart cat.

Come again? We admire him more because he knows that releasing a massively anticipated game is going to push share prices up?
Actually, I guess you’re correct Mike. I just love fucktards who’s company decides tack an extra $10 onto the cost of a game for no reason, fucking up the PC version of said game, and then personally making themselves a cool 20 mill.
Right.

It’s business, what’s the big deal. I would do the same thing. That is amazing value to capitalize on. From $1.03 to $11.50 and currently it’s at $11.69. So dude cashed in on about 1,749,000 shares. I wonder how much he has left and if activision pays dividends.

I’ll respect anyone who can make money. Maybe not the ways that they got there, but if I was in a position like his, I would be making money any way I could.

I underlined new games that are not deluxe editions or fluff.
There are news articles out there too but I can’t be bothered to find em
I have no idea if it was just PC only tho.

There have been no other games that launch for $59.99 on PC? I don’t know, haven’t looked at those prices for awhile. Same price new console games usually go for nowadays. It will drop in a few months no doubt, but I’ll still rent it.
Nice Eminem and Nate Dogg trailer though:

I agree with the thought you posted about your post as well Ivan. Oh, if you were referring to mine, just think of it as what SOCOM Confrontation could have been on PS3.
November 15th, 2009
SOCOM on PS3 is my worst gaming nightmare. So i just think of the first 2 SOCOM. I remember every day there always were about 50 thousand online players on SOCOM 2. And on International Servers about 2000 but no one use that server since it had to Many people talking different shit a total mess to play online.

smart man, bobby.
as a gamer, longer than Mike Ferro, i can safely say i don’t care what he does with his stock.
nice bit of rag-journalism, Mike, but i didn’t expect any less from you.
ever thought of changing the name of this site to the National Inquirer’s Gaming Blorge. Fitting…

on second thought, he should get a bonus for leading Activision to the front of publishing and ousting EA from their (seemingly) loong tenure as the lead.
he’s not afraid to make the tough calls, like calling sony out on thier overpriced, overhyped, movie machine and the poor sales….
good man…
