GCHQ recruiting via Xbox Live
Have you ever fancied yourself as James Bond? Of course you have, we all have. But there’s no need to play the mostly shoddy movie-to-game adaptations in order to fulfill the dream because the British intelligence services are now recruiting via video ads delivered on Xbox Live. But not PSN, strangely.
GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) is the British government agency charged with analyzing communications. It’s closely associated with the armed forces and MI5 and MI6. And it’s currently attempting to attract video gamers to apply for jobs with the organization. So you may not be James Bond, but you could end up passing information on to Bond-style agents.
A GCHQ spokeswoman told The Guardian:
As well as tackling ‘traditional threats’ GCHQ’s work is also about helping government departments, such as the Ministry of Defence, to protect their information and communication systems. This means we can offer excellent training and careers for people with specialist technical skills.
However, the fact remains that many potential candidates remain unaware of GCHQ and what we do. Using video on Xbox LIVE helps carry our message to the right people in a creative and innovative manner.
Apparently, the 18-34 core demographic which uses Xbox Live demonstrate “quick thinking, problem solving and team work” while playing games such as Call Of Duty and Left 4 Dead. And that makes them perfect GCHQ employees. But PS3 users just aren’t good enough I’m afraid.

when there is no games to play, MS tend to bring non-gaming features. they have done a pretty good job lately
November 21st, 2009
There is no games to play on 360 roca? I am playing one right now and have several more I want to play on the system. If you don’t own the system, I find it’s best not to talk about that which you do not know or do not have any current experience with. As far as bringing non-gaming features, Sony has done a pretty good job of it lately as well.
November 21st, 2009
I guess they figure their users are prime targets. Afterall, most users are guillable little lambs that can be told what to do very easily.

Roca is just doing his usual hijack attempt & bash at Xbox.
Nothing to see here…..
I’m sure I’ve also seen tales of the US armed forces doing similar.
Can’t say as I’m surprised, with more and more RPVs entering service in each branch of the armed forces the obvious similarity & connection is ripe for exploitation.

As “guillable” as the sort of moronic idiot who imagines their ’support’ for one of the planet’s largest and wealthiest CE corporations is some sort of an act of freedom, rebellion and independance?
Jebus H you guys are so laughably blind.

Happyhockum,
All corporations are in business to make money. However, I personally have a problem with the way Microsoft conducts its business. I don’t like the fact that they sell people crappy hardware and the fact that they charge through the roof for everything. There are people who stood in line for hours to get the xbox360 at launch. Microsoft thanked their loyal supporters by selling them hardware that was poorly made. Even though the launch models were supposed to have the higher failures, there are still people to this day that are having hardware failures. I choose not to support a company who does business this way. If the positions were switched and Sony did this, I wouldn’t be supporting Sony either. I have nothing against Xbox 360 gamers. You are also gamers like Ps3 gamers. I just think as gamers xbox360 users should demand more.
November 21st, 2009

Yada yada yada, come on, recycling very old news is hardly serious.
Microsoft in fact
“thanked their loyal supporters by”
by giving them the best warranty in the business and continually refining and updating the hardware until it was as reliable as anything out there.
Clearly they did indeed respond to gamers demanding better – and they were also seen to have acted very quickly over E74 too.
They are the undeniable facts here.
You’ll also find that Sony did in fact have a similar and very widespread PS2 problem.
Unfotunately for effected PS2 owners they preferred to ignore it intil a successful class action law-suit
(something which has never happened to Microsoft & their Xbox 360).
Seriously, holding up one vast CE corp as ‘bad’ and pretending the other is ‘good’ is laughable.

@Happy
Yada yada yada..thr 360 is the most unreliable console on the market (disc scratching and not reading disc properly arent covered by the 3 year warraty…and even then 3 year is not enough for a 300 investment)
They are the undeniable facts here.
November 21st, 2009
@ CarlB
I was talking about Exclusive….obviosly there are alot of multiplatform games (available on the PS3 also) that are on my waiting list due the high number of great PS3 exclusive.
@ happy:
“Roca is just doing his usual hijack attempt & bash at Xbox.”
sorry but i dont have to do that….look at the VGA awards and the numbers (nominations) speak for them selves. Gamewise you can argue against the PS3 line this year
They are the undeniable facts here.

@Roca
Yad, yada yada.. Ps3 is not that far behind either, from YLOD to firmware bricking consoles to blueray drive/diodes failures, they ain’t covered with any extended warranty.. 1 year is not enough for a 600$
(early adopters)& 300 $..
They are undeniable facts here..
November 21st, 2009
Happhockum,
You are so funny…Microsoft in fact thanked their loyal supporters by giving them the best warranty in the business and continually refining and updating the hardware until it is reliable as anything out there…
Microsoft did this to skirt around the atrocious failure rate of the Xbpx360. They were afraid that people wouldn’t buy their system otherwise. Microsoft should have never released hardware like this to begin with. The point is that the system should have already been as reliable as anything else. As far as comparing the failure rate of the Ps2 to the Xbox360, there is no comparison. Ps2 has never had a failure rate as high as Xbox360. Fact, Xbox360 is the worst made piece of electronics in history.
November 21st, 2009
Roca
Fail.
You started (once again) bringing your off topic nonsense in here.
Disc read errors & scratching?!
Get real.
There may be a small number of disc read errors but sadly that is simply a fact of life for a heavily used drive, they do wear out.
Of course you’;re claiming there are an excessively high number of these failures…..I’d love to see your proof and data showing this to be a big problem.
Disc scratching?
Don’t move your console while it’s working.
They’ll all scratch discs if you’re the sort of idiot that does that.
3 years warranty isn’t good enough for a $300 product?!
Your beloved Sony’s pi$$-poor 1 year coverage (when the fat PS3s have a documented 10% failure rate) must have you leaping up and down in outrage then, right?
Oh, silly me.
Of course not, Sony get a bye on everything questionable about them with you.
twilight
You can ascribe whatever motives you like.
I could care less.
All I am interested in is what is the current warranty and hardware situation.
The Microsoft warranty is 2nd to none & their hardware is easily as reliable as anything out there.
You actually have no idfea of exactly how bad the PS2 was, Sony just stone-walled the problem.
Only the (successful) class-action lawsuit gave an indication.
Xbox might have begun badly (for some) but so what, that was years ago and the situation right now could hardly be different.
Live in the past if you must.
November 21st, 2009
@roca,
“I was talking about Exclusive…”
Why? You said: “when there is no games to play, MS tend to bring non-gaming features” implying “there is no games to play” on 360 and Microsoft is somehow magically desperate now when they have already exceeded all PS owner’s expectations in present gen success.
A great game is a great game, exclusive or multi-platform, and there is no time to play them all… besides the 360 also has great top tier top rated console exclusives as well such as Forza 3, L4D2, ODST, etc. and more on the way. Between these and other top rated games such as Brutal Legend, Dragon Age Origins, MW2, Assassin’s Creed 2, Borderlands all in the space of a few months (let alone those yet to be released this year), 360 gamers plenty of games to choose from. So lay up on the obvious 360 hate that there “is no games to play” when you don’t even own the console.
November 21st, 2009

PSXEXTREME doesn’t count Roca.
So Sony got sued for the PS2 but seemed to make sure the same issues didn’t happen with the PS3.
M$ had a very large failure rate for the the first 360s but have improved their reliability and offered an extended warranty.
What are we arguing about again?
November 21st, 2009
“PSXEXTREME doesn’t count Roca.”
well that’s where happy got his 10% defect ratio on the PS3…otherwise the official ratio was around 3% for the PS3 and 35% for the 360
“What are we arguing about again?”
uhmm im not arguing anything…I just said “the 360 is most unrealiable console in gaming history” which you really cant argue that but…….
Happy broght his “10% survey numbers” and I put up the “55% same survey numbers”
November 21st, 2009
@Roca fair enough, I didn’t see Happys 10% quote.
The 35% figure is a bit disingenuous though. Maybe in the first 6 months it was that high but you’re not honestly saying it’s that high now are you?
November 22nd, 2009
@roca,
Thanks for admitting that there are in fact well reviewed games to play out now on 360. Hey, look… include all the games released this year without somehow deeming “exclusives” to be the only ones worthy of mention and there were “only” 83 favorably reviewed games this year on 360… that means 360 only gamers could “only” play 7 new favorably reviewed games on average per month. I get through half of that on average if I’m lucky to have enough time. Btw, PS3 “only” had 76 this year, but who’s counting, right?
This isn’t even mentioning all the great games that have come out in the preceding 3 years on 360. Besides several gamers (including myself) have already played all or at least part of God of War 1&2, and 360 gamers already played Ninja Gaiden 2 last year (sorry, less blood and 3 extremely brief additional missions with 3 characters whose e-boobs have sixaxis control is not appealing enough for another 13+ hour playthrough for me, neither is a Chapter Challenge and co-op mode slapped in to what was originally designed from the ground up as a single player experience). The point is, these are not “new” games. Two SingStars and yet another Buzz? Whatever.
“there is no games to play”… lol.
November 22nd, 2009
Roca
Are you really that thick?
The 55% “documented” rate you offer as evidence (of your own stupidity?) was a self-selecting on-line survey with no formal verification or credibility whatsoever.
Anybody could claim anything and it counted – and who in their right mind would bet that the PS3 fanboys did not have a lot of fun pretending to be disgruntled Xbox owners?
But it speaks volumes that that is precisely the sort of fact-free cretinous gibberish you will hold up as valid.
What a pathetic joke.
November 22nd, 2009
Actually I got the fat PS3 fail rate from SquareDeals data.
10%.
Genuine independent industry data from the insurance people offering 3rd party warranties
(which is especially valid considering the PS3 warranty is a measley 1 year).
You by contrast offer on-line surveys.
What a ludicrous fanboy you are.

“The one highlight of the new data is that when we now exclude RROD from the usage analysis, PS3 and Xbox 360 both fail at roughly the same rate – 0.59% for the Xbox 360 and 0.57% for the PS3… During the first two years of ownership, 2.7 percent of Wii owners reported a system failure to SquareTrade, compared with 10 percent of PlayStation 3 owners and 23.7 percent of Xbox 360 owners… while the Red Ring of Death (RROD) problem continued to be a major problem for Xbox 360s purchased through 2008, it showed signs of finally abating with the introduction of the latest “Jasper” chipset in late 2008.”

“3rd party warranties”
please.. first, not every single PS3 owner uses a 3rd party warranty. so those numbers are as accurate as a survey… and since there has been 7 different PS3 SKUs you can only figure that a good amount of those “3rd party warranties ONLY” 10% were ppl cheating to get one the new sku available. it happens all the time.
@CarlB
“Two SingStars and yet another Buzz? Whatever.”
Battlestations: Pacific, Raiden Fighters Aces, Race Pro, Section 8, Halo Wars, Magnacarta 2…..WTF? yes whatever.
you said alot of “dont care” things for GOW and NGS2.
but anybody could say alot worse for any of those 6 360 titles.

Xbox 360 is now GGW record book for being the worst video game console wow that’s so sad. Now i feel like buying the damn book.
November 22nd, 2009
Anybody could say a lot worse about more PS3 titles or 360 titles roca, it’s not a contest. The point is that both have plenty of great games to play now, regardless of whether or not they are “exclusive”, there is no shortage. In other words, “there is no games to play” is utterly false.

That’s another one to put down in the ‘willful ignorance and stupidity’ file.
It’s growing….
- HDMI is all about allowing you to use optical audio
- Optical audio is the best audio you can have
- A self-selecting and completely unverified survey is as “accurate” as warranty data from an insurance company.
Unbelieveable…….but Roca did say it right here.
November 22nd, 2009
Happy sorry but you dont understand the logic here.
if you purchase a warranty (from a 3rd party vendor) you are more than likely to use before the warranty exprire (by false claims) and get your moneys worth and get a new system or a newer sku with bigger HDD. doesnt sound that accurate now does it.
November 22nd, 2009
““God of War Collection – 93″

@ Toshi
uhmm I also included Halo 3: ODST
(Halo 3 being a old game also)
November 22nd, 2009
Roca
“Logic”
LMAO
So you reckon – entirely without a single shred of actual evidence – that if a person buys a 3rd party warranty they are bound to make a false claim to “get their moneys worth”!?
They had a ’sample’ of 16,000 in their insurance data….maybe the cops ought to just arrest everyon of those 16,000 cos they must all be fraudulent, eh?
Despite it being fraud and a stupidly dumb thing to do (you reckon they wreck a perfectly good console on purpose to get back what $30 – $50’s “worth” of initial outlay!?)
…..and you still maintain that a completely unverified self-selecting survey is as accurate a means of determining fail rates?!
You really are a particularly stupid little fanboy, aren’t you?
For utterly laughable idiotic nonsense you can always be relied upon.
November 22nd, 2009
“I hope they do the whole entire 2000+ PS2 games for PS3.”
I hope they do that, its a good thing to do as long fanboys remember its an “OLD” game remastered in HD..

Natrally Roca is so stupid he can’t se the ‘logic’ of his idiotic claims……
…..namely that all the PS3 owners, taking out these 3rd party warranties, are a bunch of swindling thieving stupid scumbags all willing & only too ready to commit a serious crime on the basis of a small insurance fee.
He really ought not project his own mentality here so much.
November 22nd, 2009
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 needs something beyond warranty to fix is pure crap in quality.
November 22nd, 2009
Hey Ivan, are you one of the people who smashed up their PS3 just so as to swindle the insurance firm doing your 3rd party warranty?
I think you should tell us.
Roca seems to be saying that he is and with a sample of 16000 – which is a huge ’sample’ by most polling standards
(not sure where to find the annex that report mentions but in it the break down each group and give the numbers of respondants to each SKU)
that would mean a hell of a lot of you PS3 owners are sleazy criminal types swindling the insurance companies and ‘gifting’ higher premiums for the rest of us.
November 22nd, 2009

i know ppl use false claim for insurance to get a new product. I have peronally done this serveral time with the the Original PSP to the 2000 Dexter bundle to the GoW CoO bundle. all I had to do was told them my system is not working and they will give me a new “no questions asked”
is thats accurate enough to you then so be it. it still wont make the 360 look any better. sorry but the 360 is marked as the most unrealiable console in game history. period
and the only ass whole here is you always making shit up, you couldnt even come up with a valid arguments to Jofa’s the other. all you had to said was the usual “imo” i dont think uncharted is the best looking game.lmaoo kee dreaming fanboy
and either way 10% is better than 20 or 25, or 35 or 55 or 65.
over n out.
November 22nd, 2009
and 2% is better than 10%. Go get a Wii. In any case, the 20%+ is representative from the first two years, not now, so they managed to fix it to where it is comparable to the PS3 failure rate.
November 23rd, 2009
sure.
November 23rd, 2009
PS3 came out a year later, it had a head start on sorting out bugs. That the 360 was rushed to market as an unreliable piece of kit in order to dominate the market by not having any valid competition, that is not disputable. Anyone who disputes that will claim that the PS3 was just a trojan horse for BD, but really, who gives a shit about that anymore, right?
Jasper reliability numbers are only available from 3rd parties for the 1st year of ownership only, as the most recent study (that warranty company) closed the study after the jasper was on the market for only one year. The 3rd gen PS3 (no BC, 2usb ports, no card reader) enjoyed a 0.5% failure rate in it’s first year.
The difference? nothing shocking, moving to smaller processes (90>65>45nm for the ps3)reduces heat and power consumption, the two enemies of any microprocessor’s longevity. That one is .5% higher than the other in failure rate means damn near nothing when comparing numbers so low.
Sure the 360 stank for the first 2.5 years for reliability. MS made good, and lost a billion dollars in the process, they got theirs, and I am sure some bean counters somewhere got taken out back and beaten with a switch (5c rubber part would prevent disc scratching? CUT IT). Go out today and buy a jasper 360 and you can’t really go wrong.
Thats my point I guess, a consumer has it good these days. Not to say anyone should be forgiven for the past so easily, but at least there are less and less victims everyday.
November 23rd, 2009

btw. you can be that stupid…..you dont really need to own a 360 to know its flaws. I have friends who work at gamestop who tell me that they have a 360 graveyard (RROD) in the backroom. many of my friend that have a 360 now are PS3 owner because of……guess what…..RROD and XBL fee.

@roca
On this thread, u are the one trolling..
“when there is no games to play, MS tend to bring non-gaming features. they have done a pretty good job lately”
November 23rd, 2009
thats write, just 3 games (Halo Wars, ODST and FM3) from them all year long. not acceptable in my part. and thats not trolling, as a gamer I will like to see more games come out on regural basis.
November 23rd, 2009
@roca
what facts are u talking abt, xbox has been out for 4 years and ps3 for 3 yrs.. So it does not makes sense, when u just provide details for 1 yr.. On the other hand, u do realize
1). Multiplatform are always there, its funny how u totally ignore them, as if they ain’t games.. Do u really think majority of gamers just play “ONLY” exclusives..
2). I know exclusives play a big role when u have to make a purchase for a games console, but i hope u do realize that majority of ppl here have already made their purchase and are happy with their choice.. So it doesn’t make sense comparing exclusives now, what are we 10 year olds..
3) I have said it many times that earlier too, that reviews are nothing but an opinion of the individual, who reviews the game and has nothing to do with the general consensus.. Gaming habbits, gameplay style and tastes varies from one individual to another.. Just like gt psp and assassin’s creed blood lines got poor reviews, but still people are buying them and even enjoying them.. I suppose even u got them right ??

@roca
Funniest post of the day dude.. lol i cant believe what m i seeing here.. ha ha ha

I got GT PSP, I wouldnt give it a 10 though. a 7 or 8 is more likely just because of the amount of cars and the physics. the game didnt have online gameplay or a story mode. I enjoy playing but not as much as GT5p.
and i skipped Mulitplatform because their are available for both system, so why mentioning games that you can play on both system no matter what.
and I didnt bough AC: Bloodline because of the bad reviews. and your right the 360 was out a year before the 360 so it makes sense to figure that it has more games. but since 2008 the ps3 has put up a unmatchame line up of exclusive. 2009 was even better. and just look how 2009 is going to start with MAG, GOW3, WKC and GT5
November 23rd, 2009
unmatchame should read as “unmatchable”

“if it bothers you so much”
Frankly I couldn’t care less.
I just think you’re making a t!t of yourself daily whinging on and on and on about something you clearly know almost nothing about – or are simply trolling with making as many idiotic digs as you can.
You insistance on posting the theoretical maximum prices and ignoring actual prices being a prime case of you demonstrating your ridiculous fanboy-ism.
“why dont you find me a job”
Sort out your own job.
Pity you didn’t have an Xbox, if GCHQ had seen the amount of time you spend here they might have offered you a job.
You just better hope your boss isn’t looking at your web history/log for the amount of time you waste here.
….unless of course it’s not a waste & trolling the forum (amongst others) is the sort of ‘gainful employment’ you have.
In which case you have my deepest sympathies, even if it is hilarious, talk about a soul-destroying waste of your time on the Earth.
I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Seriously.
November 23rd, 2009
“and i skipped Mulitplatform because their are available for both system, so why mentioning games that you can play on both system no matter what.”
@roca
Coz when u are comapring consoles, u have to take multiplatform games, as ppl have already bought the console, so exclusive wars doesn’t have much significance here..
You included the god of war collection but simply excluded the
1) bioshock/elder scroll’s exclusive double pack for 360
2) capcom exclusive triple pack (Lost Planet®: Extreme Condition – Colonies Edition, Dead Rising) for 360,
3) GTA episode from liberty city (on disc retail version)

“Im going to let the numbers speak for themselves”:
2009 Games rated 75 or above on Metacritic:
360: 83
PS3: 76
Let it go roca. Both systems have had an adequate amount of great games to play come out this year. One would be hard pressed to get through all the ones they want to play on either system, exclusive or multiplatform.

“MAG, GOW3, WKC and GT5″
Well all i can see is, Mass effect 2 in jan, Conviction in feb, Metro 2033 and Alan wake in march..
I m not arguing that these games are better than ur list, but as these are the games i am interested in.. See i was not a ps2 owner, so titles like gow 3 and gt 5 aren’t going to make me interested..
Same way if u haven’t played/didn’t liked ME 1 or crackdown 2, then u wont be hyped for these games..
So its best to say 2010 is gonna rock both 360 and ps3 gamers..
November 23rd, 2009
crackdown 1*

looks like 2009 was a hell of a year for PS3 owners….2010 looks to be “22″ times better. and even better if you have a PC (most of us do) to play games like Splinter Cell Conviction and Alan Wake.
then we have this to make things better:

“Besides the obvious & blatant trolling wtf was the point of that PS3 cr@p in this Xbox thread?”
it seem you didnt have any problem watching you “boy” copying and pasting the same link about 2010 360 titles all over this website. its ok you seem you favor those who owns any Mircosoft
November 24th, 2009
roca – a link is one thing; a list is another you blithering fanboy.
November 24th, 2009
a link with a list
and a list (just saving you a extra “mouse click”) is about the same. you seem to complain for every lil shit. I feel bad for your parents putting up with you all these years
November 24th, 2009
and he posted the same link all over this website
November 24th, 2009
Yes, Sony does like to announce titles years before they come out roca, and a game is a game, regardless of whether it is “exclusive” or not, or whether you already played it over a year ago on 360 and it now has a frills added (Star Ocean, Tales of Vesperia, etc.).
November 24th, 2009
Er what link are you wittering oin about now?
Besides kev is right, posting a link is one thing, wrecking a thread with your stupid lists nobody does anything buy skim past is quite another.
You ridiculous boring fool.
November 24th, 2009
lol… (movie announcer voice) Roca IS the LIST WARRIOR
November 24th, 2009
“Roca IS the LIST WARRIOR”
Toshi is a link spamming warrior. but Yess I know games and I can still make a bigger list of 2010 PS3 esclusive. I just put up 27 titles to give you guys a taste of whats coming
(just joking guys. dont take everything to the head)
November 24th, 2009
“bigger list of 2010 PS3 esclusive”
@troll
actually i didnt even said, 360 exclusives were bigger or better than ps3, i just wanted 360 owners to look out for must buy games in that list, apparently SW took a look and commented on the he wont like to buy..
But i can understand, u were getting bored at work, but still want the pay.. So u just sit there, and post flame baiting post over and over again..
November 24th, 2009
“I can still make a bigger list”
Yes you can. Be proud.
November 24th, 2009
“i just wanted 360 owners to look out for must buy games in that list,”
i was just doing the same. and it actually wasnt a flame bait. the only ppl who took in a wrong way were 360 only owners and CarlB (idk why)
and you keep calling “troll” which just show that my comments managed to get to your head somehow
November 24th, 2009
How did I take it the wrong way roca? I was just joking around like you were. Relax, no worries.
November 25th, 2009
Congrats CAD, you just received your first FTotT award by saying “Yes I know we are a higher class of gamers” in ref to XBox gamers. I nearly skipped you over for Roca’s comment though.
