Dragon Age: Origins gay sex scene causes outrage – oh do grow up
Dragon Age: Origins is a game turning heads – mostly for the right reasons but not entirely. It seems that there’s a gay sex scene which is prompting outrage from clearly homophobic fans of the game. And there was me thinking gamers were generally sensible, liberal people who wouldn’t think twice about a bit of man-on-man action in one of their games.
Dragon Age: Origins is critically acclaimed, with a swathe of positive reviews giving the game a Metacritic rating of around 90 percent. According to TechRadar, one small part of the game deals with a homoerotic encounter between a human and an elf. Despite there being nothing graphic shown, many fans have reportedly expressed their displeasure at this particular part of the game.
Seriously? That was enough to get people in a lather? Clearly they haven’t lived. I find it strange how numerous heterosexual sex scenes can take place in games with no one batting an eyelid. But make the two characters getting it on male and some ignorant and clearly unintelligent people kick up a fuss. I prescribe a punishment of having to watch Brokeback Mountain on repeat for a few weeks.

And by posting this, you have just given the homophobes a voice, regardless of your own message. I didn’t know there was any outcry about this at all until I read this news piece.
Personally, I am not surprised there are homophobic gamers who would be outraged by this. 10mins on any open mic online game should be proof enough that gamers can be prejudiced immature dickheads that see an anonymous online game as a great outlet for their bottled hate. How is this internet outrage any different?

Did you know that all internet forums are built of pure, raw homophobe? This website is rather fine, but just go to Youtube and take a look at the comments. The most used insult nowadays is “fag”, calling somebody that proves little to nothing. I’m sure that the next generation will be less homphobic and finding another minority group to focus on.

I literally just bought 2 copies of the game for $35 each on Amazon. They are having a lighting sale, so grab a cheap copy while you can fellas.
As far as the scene… it is a little awkward. I’m not exactaly enraged or upset by it. My guy doesn’t have to be gay right?

Has anyone finished GOW yet? I have 3.5 hours in and not even half way. I think I can do it in 5 hours to get that trophy after I play through it once.

I was raised in a fundamentalist Catholic home, and have studied the worlds religions extensively in both school and in my personal time as a hobby. It is easy to hold to one religions dogma, and damn all others. It is hard to do the same thing, once you know about the other religions through their teachings and holy books, not just how they are portrayed through your christian filtered media. I say christian, because we here are all westerners of some form or another, and for themost part, the western world is run by the fundamentalist right.
I am an agnostic budhist, and have been for over a decade. It causes me deep stress to see people acting on a single, dogmatic view point, and willing to lash out with great prejudice because of it. Jesus’ message was one of love and acceptance, not hate and exclusion. To see people take his words and use them to fuel their hate, saddens me greatly. Nothing has ever been learned by humans, that can’t be unlearned by some discomfort and surprise.
