Mass Effect on PS3 and PSN hot holiday buys
Rumors and speculation around Mass Effect coming over to the PS3 have persisted for a very long time. The topic is revisited once again as the question was brought up recently to Bioware. Also, the top recommended buys within the PSN holiday sales.
I am sure that the Bioware guys are constantly asked questions regarding Mass Effect coming over to the PS3. Joystiq has the latest reply from Bioware from a recent interview with co-founder, Greg Zeschuk.
Joystiq: Have you guys talked about Mass Effect on the PS3? There’s obviously a problem with it being a narrative trilogy of cards and on PS3 you’d be starting later.
Zeschuk: We’re not saying anything about Mass Effect for PS3. I don’t know anything about that! That’s crazy talk. I don’t know anything about that.
Zeshuk’s reply seems a bit coy, when compared to the usual “we do not comment on speculations,†or even “there will be no PS3 version ever!†verbatim comment.

I’m tempted to get Prince of Persia… but I don’t really need anymore games at the moment.
They should put Mass Effect 1&2 on a single blu-ray. I would consider it then.

They simply can’t release the second without the first. Bj’s single disc idea for both would probably be what they’d do. I’d guess it would happen a couple of months after me2 came out on the 360. I wonder if ms had a clause in a contract keeping developers from mentioning it at all like what happened with bioshock.

It would be nice if Mass Effect gets released on the PS3. Timed exclusives are nearly as effective as exclusives when it comes to console sales (especially if they think it’ll always be exclusive. people tend to look at new exclusives), and it’ll be like another release day for Bioware. I’m not asking for anything though, both consoles deserve exclusives titles that define their platform. I would probably pick it up if gets on the PS3. $30 and I’m sold?
I have little interest in PSN games. I will probably buy WipeOut HD and Flower at some point of time, and I get DLC for disk-based games, but I don’t have time for other little games. Our internet is slow. We did get the speed doubled yesterday though, I’m anxious to download something on PSN =-)
Oh, and it’s my birthday. Grey Cup party genna go on. Yeayuh.

I agree 100%.
It’s only digital’s 0′s & 1′s afterall.
Unfortunately that would mean an unheard of convergance & presumable some sort of industry wide agreed standards.
They were able to do it with…..
(hmmm, not the greatest parallel but you get the idea)
VHS video where several CE manufacturers worldwide put their own spin on devices basically able to play all the same stuff – and PCs of course can be full of very different components and all but the most basic should still play nice together and with most stuff you throw at them.
It’s one of the things I like about Xbox and I hope will develop further (the similarity between it & PCs).
Sad to say though that I reckon it’ll be a cold day in hell before either Sony or Nintendo go down this road tho.

I know for a fact that ms had a game where pc players and 360 players could play together.
I’m pretty sure one of the releases of need for speed had pc and playstation players playing agaist one another also.

On the actual topic, Mass Effect was one of the better PC games I have played in the last 5 years, looking forward to ME2 for the PC, has pretty reasonable min specs, and pretty decent recommended, as long as it isn’t too big of a departure from the first one, and looks half as good on my PC as ME1, then I will be happy.

I remember reading that Ubisoft said that they have the ability to get cross platform gaming going for Tom Clancy’s Endwar but neither company were wanting that to happen.

Well it may be a reality. I have a sneaking suspicion that my mrs is getting me a PS3 for christmas (I have been in her ear about how our TV is going to waste with just HD gaming rather than HD movies, and the bandwidth restrictions in Aus make the 1080p streaming not very practical). I doubt I’ll have many games for it, if I get one that is, but yeah i’ll let you know if it happens.

It shouldn’t be too bad, i’m on ADSL2+ which is pretty quick. I’ve played with some guys from the US (and on Xbox Live) and there didn’t seem to be any lag.
Looking forward to taking a look at U2, and GOW3 if it gets released here (it’s probably too violent for the ultra conservatives in power), but I shouldn’t get too ahead of myself in case I don’t end up getting one.

UC2 and Infamous were undoubtedly fun, as God of War 3 will most likely be. $300+ extra fun? Not IMO. I would recommend saving $100+ by waiting a year or more, because I’m still playing more on my 360 than my PS3, but it’s up to you.

there has been more evidence about 360 exclusive (halo, Gears, l4D2, frontlines, etc) having servers/connection issues not just for days…but for weeks so you argument is pointless atm

And I would tell you the same thing. I would not recommend getting a 360 if you already have a PS3 because of the sheer amount of multiplats both can play. Not even you can keep up with all the titles you have already bought, and you only own a PS3. Either a 360 or a PS3 has more than enough games and features to keep one gamer busy having fun for a long time, with more to come.

so I dont what you keep talking about multiplatform titles and all that non-sense when he just want to take full advantage of his HDTV by watching some HD movies. the PS3 also has a good amount of exclusive covering almost every genre (Buzz is great for the family btw – Harry) that can match or surpass any multiplatform game out there (expect CoD).
and Also he will most like find good deals (bundles) during the Holidays to justified the purchase. as he had stated many times the PS3 launched at $1000 in AUS so I can see waiting is not an issue for Harry. if price is not an issue for him now then why should he wait. I actually have a hard time for multiplatform games because all the PS3 exclsuive are have kept me really busy lately. and it seems to be the same early 2010.
also talking down GoW3 shows alot about you. now are they guy preaching the benefit of having ALL system but when a fellow 360 is says he might get a PS3 you tell him is not a wise decision and that he should wait until next year. maybe he should just wait until 2015 when the PS3 will be around $100 the he will save even more money…donnt you think?

If price is not an issue, then he shouldn’t wait. If he would like to save some money (as I stated) and not purchase a PS3, he will not be hurting for plenty of very fun games by sticking with the 360 he already has (and as I said above, this works vice versa if you only have a PS3).
If “he just want to take full advantage of his HDTV by watching some HD movies” and if he has to have Blu-ray discs instead of 1080p movie downloads via Amazon, etc. to play on his HDTV then he can easily purchase even a Sony branded blu-ray player for less than half the price of a PS3.
Where did I say him getting a PS3 “is not a wise decision”? I only said he could save some money and still have all his gaming needs met with a 360 (Scene It is just as great for the family btw).

Roca, let me put it in other words so you can understand… the few really good exclusives that will attract people in general who do not already own a PS3 are not really worth $300+ extra in my opinion if they already own a 360, as 360 only owners already have plenty of very fun and satisfying games (exclusive and or multiplat games combined- a great game is a great game, but the 360 does have more generally favorably reviewed titles released this year than PS3) to play (as do PS3 only owners).
I repeat, if money is not an issue, I highly recommend getting the other console (360/PS3) for it’s top games and features.
I never said I was “all knowing”, but you did… maybe you should explore that perception.

Im sure there were many ppl that just bout a $300 system for MW2 alone.
whats wrong with Harry spending money on a gaming system that will allow him to play some exclusive that he will not find on the 360 and also it will allow him to watch BD movies.
Uncharted 2, KZ2, MGS4, Demon’s Souls, GoW Collection, Infamous, LBP (Harry said his wife loved it), R+C, R1, R2, Buzz, Heavenly Sword, Valkyria Chronicles are not enough games for a $300 console? then the 2010 line look pretty strong IMO. you defenitely didnt wait another year.

I’m sure there were as well, but they may not have had a 360/PS3 already, and if they did, well, that is not me, and in my opinion (I can only speak for myself) I would not recommend it. One exception I suppose would be if you were upgrading from a launch model though.
Did I say there was anything “wrong” with Harry spending money on a gaming system to play exclusives or blu-ray discs? No. I just offered a suggestion and my opinion, and even recommended that he get one if money is not an issue. I would recommend the same to the PS3 only owner.
Yes, those games (and 360 exclusives) are worth $300 to me if you do not already have the other console. If you do, then you already have more great games available than you would be able to play through every year. If money is not an issue, buy all three and play the top exclusive games for each, then the multiplats on the one that gets the best reviews for them.
I did not wait, but I look back on the purchase(s)(PS3 & Wii) and think I could have easily waited another year and been just as happy and satisfied with just the 360 alone (and I believe as I stated previously the same could be said for the PS3 only owner, maybe not so much the Wii only owner, but I haven’t spent nearly as much time with it). It’s just my opinion, and I’m only speaking for myself, no need to read into it.
