Microsoft: Xbox 360 had its “biggest sales week of the year”
With Sony and Nintendo gloating sales figures for the week of Black Friday, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sales figure is the only missing piece currently. However, Microsoft is teasing everyone by indicating that Black Friday week was its biggest sales week all year long for the Xbox 360.
According to Kotaku, Aaron Greenberg, the Director of Product Management for Xbox 360 just sent out a quick tweet teasing Black Friday sales. Greenberg stated that Xbox 360 the week of Black Friday was the “biggest sales week of the year” for the console.
He also teased that Black Friday sales were more than two times the previous week’s sales. That sounds pretty impressive; unfortunately there is no way of telling what the previous week’s sales look like.
I highly suspect that Xbox 360 sales are probably in line with PS3 and Wii sales around the high 400k to high 500k range. With a mixture of Arcade ($199) and Elites ($299), I wouldn’t be surprised if Xbox 360 sales exceeded that of the PS3’s.

I suspect in the US the sales figures will pretty much be the same for the 360 and PS3 give or take a few thousand as they are the same price and will likely stay that way. However here in the UK I suspect the 360 will continue to outsell the PS3 because there is still a significant price difference between the elite and the PS3.

Estimates in the UK reckoned Xbox were out-selling PS3 by 3:1.

I did see a report saying Xbox was out-selling PS3 in the US by 2:1 over the black friday week.
Couldn’t find the story when asked to post the link for this one, sadly.
Nov’s NPD will make interesting reading but whatever the actual numbers are it looks pretty certain that (after the one-month big peak after the price-cut & the slim launch) the PS3 decline in sales seen in Oct will continue in Nov.
I had reckoned on a boost through to X-mas, it looks as if it’ll barely make that.
Xbox did the smart thing by countering with a small price-cut of their own & pumping out some cracking bundle deals.

Lol Sorry, but I had to register for this article. I for one completely disagree with the last paragraph. If the 360 would have outsold the PS3, then we would have heard Greenburg gloating on how they outsold the PS3.
“Twice of last week” TWICE. So in order to beat the PS3 the 360 should sell at least 220K in the previous week. REALLY!!?? You think that a week before Black Friday when all people know that you can get discounts and good offers a week late, they all went out and bought a 360? And even if they did, still 220K lol for your reference 360 sold 250K last MONTH according to NPD. I am guessing it sold around 100K the previous week and so the final sales will be around 250K. VGZ estimates it at 280K, so I am not that off (seeing VGZ history of blowing 360s numbers).
The very fact that M$ hasn’t released any numbers this time around means that it’s been beaten badly. Thankfully NPD will show us that.

I should just skip over sales articles like this from now on. All there will be is a fanwar and some in-your-facing by one company or the other. Reveal to me some games or new content, please. It is Black Friday. There has been almost no big releases for the 360 besides Modern Warfare 2 (which was a boost for the PS3 also). This doesn’t mean anything to me until I see some figures.

You are not going to get a clear indication until after the Hoildays and then the only true way yo do it is to see year on year sales for that given month. I believe this was due to the $199 arcade. I believe we will see a similar increase year to year for the PS3 due to the price drop if the poor economy numbers don’t skewer it too much.
When I say comparing year to year I mean Jan 2009 to Jan 2010 and so one to see if the price drop is really that effective. Until next year it’s a crap shoot as the nu,bers will be very inflated due to the Holidays.
I’ll go out on a limb though and say it is my opinion that the 360 will not have the Holiday it had last year and the PS3/360 sales numbers will be closer than ever.

When the 360 is predicted to outsell the ps3 in the largest markets, US and the UK, Roca has to drag in Japan. Of course, the poor fanboy forgets these are objective retailers who hold no allegiance to either ms or sony who are making the predictions.
Why is this so important, the fanboys ask?
Easy, because they’re the ones who are ordering from the distributors to have enough stock to carry them through the holidays. If they think the 360 is positioned to outsell by 2:1, their orders will reflect this as well.
Not good for sony when the 360 is shipping twice (overestimate, but you get the point) as many to retailers as the ps3 is. Then again, you can’t eat up valuable store space with a product that is only predicted to sell half as many as the competition, either. So it makes sense they would trim their ps3 orders back. It’s just business.
It’s funny, if the 360 was killing the ps3 in 299 out of 300 countries, Roca would still use the last one country as “proof” the 360 won’t sell as well as the ps3. what a clown…lmao…

The cheapest retail 360 costs less than the cheapest retail PS3.
PS3 fanboys (me included) quoted ways of getting the PS3 price down, and not to be out done shows there are ways of getting the Elite for cheaper as well.
It doesn’t apply to the average consumer so it really shouldn’t apply to a story about Black Friday.

I think you missed the point. Sony is fudging it’s numbers for Europe when the territory for that figure is more then just Europe. At least Microsoft said Europe, Middle East and Africa. Sony uses the word PAL which stretch to parts of Asia, South America and probably Mexico since US and Canada are under NPD stats.

There is no debating about the Europen installed base.

the PS3 have a Major AAA game coming out every single month for the 4-5 months next year. their summer and holyday line is still a secret.
they also have Fully 3D games coming out in 2010 and their Motion Sensing gaming is also coming out early next year.
I think the only thing MS can do to slow down the PS3 is to make another price cut (next sept) and hope that Natal will be the success they are raving about

ROCA – you need to shut up about sales. You just got made a fool of by claiming sony had higher European numbers then got owned by the truth.
I’m thinking the reasons MS hasn’t released the Black Friday numbers are several:
1. a single day, or even single week, sale numbers means SQUAT. Nothing. Nada. Zip. For instance, many manufacturers reduce the prices of the merchandise for Black Friday (bluray players, electronics, etc). If people were to gauge the success of a product by Black Friday sales data, it would not be valid as there are 364 other days of sales data that needs to be considered. Yet here the ps3 fanboys are, hyping single day, or single week sales data as some sort of proof the ps3 will outsell the 360 this holiday.
2. MS is still compiling their data. Give them time. They are concentrating on the overall Q4 sales data as it’s much more indicative of the health of the system. With retailers predicting 360 sales outpacing the ps3 2:1 in some territories and higher in others, MS has a lot of numbers to crunch. Not as easy as the fanboys think.
3. MS isn’t sony who has to rely on grandstanding over every sales spike. They’ve had some, but none with longevity.
It’s nice to know you’re back to your “the ps3 and 360 are the same price” routine. I can’t wait to read your excuses if the ps3 fails to live up to your sales predictions. Your excuse of the 360 being cheaper just died. Uh-oh!! LMAO!!

Actually, MS has been ahead of the ps3 since it launched. I don’t see them bragging much. They hit the first critical benchmarks first, but that’s about it.
1. first to 10 million in NA
2. first to 10 million Europe
3. Most online gamers playing at once.
4. Highest software attach ratio
They’ve consistently outsold the ps3 in the largest markets (barring one month) over the last 24 months, and don’t brag about their monthly beatings they give to sony.
It’s actually sony who has touted and hyped every single sales increase they’ve experienced with MGS4, KZ2, LBP, GT5p, R:FOM, Warhawk, etc, etc, etc…. only to watch the sales fall again shortly thereafter.
Sony are known as the Kings of Hype for a reason. It’s all they do. Talk, talk, talk….
Btw; Bluray players can be found at Walmart for around $79 this holiday. The “sweet” deal of the ps3 just got a lot more sour. ouch!

Best week in companies history huh? Are you forgetting the launch of the system and the launch of Halo3?
They said the best week “this year”.
I don’t have numbers in front of me, but all indication from the months past have them at their best months this year around the 400k mark.
That would indicate that its 100K a week. Double that and we’re looking at 200K for that one day, which more than likely (see first point) is when most people bought the console. This leaves them with respectively half the consoles sold compared to the ps3.
Are these numbers correct? More than likely not. I just needed to show you how MS really didn’t say anything with their statement.

ROCA – the bluray player I’m planning on buying is only $79 whereas the ps3 is $300. It makes more sense to buy a standalone player for my movie viewing needs. I don’t feel like paying for “the cell” and “wifi”. As a consumer, I typically only like to pay for things I want.
Who knows, I’m might wait until it hits $50. if it can drop over $900 in two years, it shouldn’t be long until it’s under $50.

The only thing I “concede” is that MS had a much better black Friday due to the huge sales numbers in a much smaller market than sony.
Want to talk about vague? Let’s divide the 440k ps3 sold by the numbers of countries sony is using in their statement. Anyone want to bet they’re much, much lower than that of the 360 for that same time frame?
