Sony sold 440k PS3s during Black Friday week
With Black Friday finally behind everyone in the U.S., retailers have started reporting sales number for the blockbuster week. Sony recently sent out communication indicating that Black Friday was a success for the PS3 during that time period.
According to Joystiq, approximately 440,000 PS3s were sold during the week of Black Friday. With so many great bundles on sale it’s not really all that surprising. Nintendo managed to shift approximately 550,000 Wii consoles, beating the PS3 for the top Black Friday spot. Considering the price difference between the Wii, the sales are still pretty impressive for the PS3.
It looks like November numbers for all consoles will be massive and most likely will be close to a million across the board. Microsoft has yet to issue official Black Friday numbers but I suspect that it should be announced shortly. It will be curious to see if Microsoft managed to trump both Sony and Nintendo.

Not surprising, as the advertised PS3 bundles seemed to have higher quality titles than the 360s, could have been the difference for anyone who was on the fence. But I doubt there were a lot of people swayed by the bundles. $300 is still not impulse territory, so I am sure most who bought a console last week knew far in advance their choice. If the PS3 outsold the 360 in black friday week, I would only say it is from pent up demand for a cheaper PS3, tapping into the xmas shoppers and bundle deal seekers who might have wanted a $300 ps3, but also wanted some games with that price.
Although, the 6 game 360 bundle would look to be the best deal to an ignorant parent shopping for a kid, not knowing that the games are by and large crap.
My guess is that when the numbers come in, the 360 and PS3 will be close for black friday week, but the month will go to the PS3.

It’s not like the sales stopped either. Cyber Monday was in full swing. I picked up u2 as a gift for $40.
I also treated Brian to a gift. I was in need of a new HDTV, so I picked up a dlp 65″ 1080p 120hz off of tigerdirect for $1000 with no tax and no shipping costs. It was previously $1200 and it went up a $100 an hour after I bought it.

I’m not surprised that Sony did well. They had some killer bundle deals doing black friday.

Kind of double-edged tho isn’t it?
Sony still lose money on every PS3 if what they tell us is accurate.

I sold my old 50″ LCD 1080p/60hz for one of the new LED 1080/120hz, it will arrive sometime between wednesday and sunday
a 65″ is pretty huge though I hope you enjoy it.

I’m aware of the tech as my father has one and the picture is amazing. Its also 3D ready so if Sony does pull the 3D angle off like they said they plan on doing in 2010 I’ll be ready for that. The idea is not far fetched as it was shown during one of the trade shows with Wipeout HD.

I will never buy a 120hz TV as I just can’t stand to look at it. I feel like I’m getting sick when I look at it. 60hz is where I will stay.

That’s an interesting side to all those ‘motion flow’ type features.
I’ve yet to see the review when they di not (at least some of the time) prefer it turned off.

if it make you feel better, there are 600hz TVs out already

oddly enough I still prefer rear projection to lcd. I would have bought a laser if I had 6K to spend

I haven’t kept up with them (not once it was clear that they had a heap of issues all of their own), is that what they still are, $6K US?
(I’m referring to the Mitsubushi sets)
Didn’t they get withdrawn for some tech fix….. so they ever come back but prices are still sky-high?
Oh dear, looks like laser isn’t going to be ‘it’ either.
I suppose we just have to wait on the CE corps deciding how long to give it until LCD is saturated before they’ll start doing OLED in the large sizes that might provoke people to upgrade
(and by all accounts the step-up with OLED is massive and easily seen…..I gather some phones use them for their screens now and the quality is noteable)

“there are 600hz TVs out already”
And to think I used to get dizzy with 90 Hz.
December 1st, 2009
So let me get this straight. Can you adjust the hz? Someone said you can turn it off is that true? Can you select between different hz options?

@CAD

So…. What do you guys think the ps3 November NPD’s will be.
I say around 750k.
December 1st, 2009
750K -1M units because of MW2 help to boost sales before Black friday
December 1st, 2009
Just for some reference. Last years November NPD numbers for the
PS3: 378K
360: 836K
So far the PS3 has exceeded last years number in one week.
As far as December of last year was concerned
PS3: 726K
360: 1.4million
If last years trend continues, the PS3 and the 360 sales should practically double in December as opposed to November.

novermber of last year was ass whooping

A close friend of mine has a 120hz bravia, and while I really like it for games, I find it discomforting for TV and movies.
December 1st, 2009
I would have though that it would be better for movies as they are filmed at 24fps.
December 2nd, 2009
Congrats Sony

I’m getting a OLED TV soon from either Sony or Samsung still deciding who to buy it from. Sony got this year lock down.
