CliffyB: No Gears Of War on PS3
Games which are exclusive to one console or the other have always been important. But this generation they are proving more important than ever. Leaving aside the Wii for now, the Xbox 360 and PS3 are so similar that persuading people to buy one or the other comes down to exclusives. And Gears Of War is one of the biggest Xbox 360 exclusives out there.
There have been rumors of late that Gears Of War could be coming to the PS3. This is because Microsoft no longer has exclusivity over the franchise. So Gears Of War 3 could potentially also, or even only, appear on the Sony console.
Not so, according to CliffyB (Cliff Bleszinski), design director for Epic Games. In an interview with Kotaku Radio, recounted by VG Arabia, he said:
Honestly there’s really no plans for any Gears on PS3 any time soon, which I can confirm.
Hmm…..I would wager that…I know Microsoft is a huge fan of Kojima……I actually have no knowledge on any of this, but my guts as a gamers told me that you would see a Metal Gear Solid game on Xbox 360 before you see a Gears of War game on the PS3.
It’s not clear whether CliffyB was referring to Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which is confirmed for the Xbox 360, or a port of Metal Gear Solid 4. Regardless, it looks as though Gears Of War is set to remain an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Gears is by far the best game ever. I absolutely love this game. It is my most favorite game ever. I don’t know if any other game can come close to the sheer greatness of this title. I’m so happy that it is a Microsoft Exclusive.

The dude who does bender does the voices of a some of the thugs in Batman AA as well. I actually found it distracting, as I am such a big Futurama fan.
I am not gonna knock on the gears franchise, as I have played gears2 a couple times, and truly enjoyed it. It didn’t blow my mind or anything, and I do prefer the cover system in KZ2, but the graphics are definitely crisp for a greyscale game.
Will I miss not being able to play it on my PS3? Nope. I am in no need of another franchise, my gaming future is pretty well mapped for the next year.
GOW HD collection, AC2, MAG, heavy Rain, GOW3, FF13/v13, GT5 are on my purchase list. Not much room for any new titles.

I do like Gears (really need to get 2nd one) It didn’t blow my mind, but was a fun addictive game that I can pick up again and play with as much fun.
But I have a 360, so exclusiveness doesn’t effect me.

Gears of War Is certainly one of my all time favourite games. It had oodles of atmosphere and a real cinematic quality, fantastic art direction and great visuals. The game play was tight and the levels and bosses were sufficiently tough to challenge but not put you off. The marketing campaign was probably one of the best ever created for a game and really portrayed the game as an epic experience. It was the first time a game showed off the power of the next gen consoles to a wider audience.
Gears of War 2 on the other hand was rather Mehh. They updated the engine nicely, but it just felt like a rather boring rehash. Unchallenging gameplay, and the art direction just felt sloppy.

GOW (God of War) is the best game I have ever played. I have yet to play God of war 2.

Do you have a problem with me liking Gears more then any other game. That’s my opinion so why do you care. Gods of Wars is good but nothing emits that feeling that Gears gives when you Blast someone with the Shotgun or Rip into someone with the Chsinsaw or take someones head off with the Sniper. I’ve played so many shooters and no one get it right the way Gears does. The other shooter are great but Gears is satisfiying. The Rumble the Sound the effects the atmosphere are all perfect.

the ps3′s architecture is so developer-unfriendly that they have to measure the countless of manhours it would take to get a stable game running on the ps3.
then they would have to compare that against the poor sales it will surely have as most of the ps3′s “AAA” titles aren’t selling relatively well and never have, usually… they would lose a bundle of money for their publisher. poor business.
the risk is simply too great to take a chance. besides, Cliffy B knows where the home of the shooter is….. the 360.

The Xbox uses compression, Carlb gave the info here a while back, the Xbox game was DVD9 sized and the exact same PS3 game was 13gbs.
So the correct stat would be less than 2 Xbox games on a BD25 and 3 on a BD50.
The sorry truth is that boring FMV is consuming the additional size the BD disc offers.
They must be doing something weird tho cos just about every PS3 game I’ve ever read about no matter how superficially good they look tend to be short.
So, what is all that about & what is there to love about that, huh?
Flashy showy but ultimately shallow games.

It’s not surprising really, the PS3 GPU was a cost-saving after-thought, PS3 was originally supposed to have 2 Cells and no separate GPU
(which would have been interesting if stunningly expensive, once devs got around to working out what to do with them, 1 was bad enough!).
As for which games are/look best?

You rate KZ2 and personally I would say it is very close to (not forgetting it borrows heavily from GoW2 – red eyes included) and isn’t anything better – and the game itself is by all accounts far shorter.

You need to start reading some different reviews Happy… try IGN, they are pretty good. I wouldn’t call Uncharted 2 “lengthy” but neither are over half the games on 360. There may be short (8-12 hour games) titles, but just as many of these are very fun on both 360 and PS3. Demon’s Souls will definitely keep you busy for some time.

Yep, my launch 360 lasted a little longer (almost four years). Hopefully they fixed the update issues (that happened with the slim) with the new patch so you don’t go through as much of a headache as I did. Good luck.

If it’s the 60GB backwards compatible I would say spend the money, otherwise I would say get a new slim. It’s relatively quiet, produces less heat, draws less power, has a smaller form factor, is smudge resistant, and seems to have some slightly faster load times with the new patches from what I have been reading lately.
