New Medal Of Honor game revealed – Reinvented in modern-day Afghanistan
It was just a couple of weeks ago that EA revealed that, far from being dead, the Medal Of Honor series was about to be revitalized. And the new game has now been announced, even if details are thin on the ground. The big news is World War II is being left behind as the series takes a leaf out of Call Of Duty‘s playbook and enters the world of modern warfare.
Analog Hype has the full press release from EA. Highlights include the fact that the new Medal Of Honor will be set in modern-day Afghanistan, a controversial choice to set such a high profile game. The player will assume the role of a soldier in a special operations team tasked with the missions no one else can handle. There will be both a single-player and multiplayer experience, as expected.
The new Medal Of Honor will be premiered during Spike TV’s 2009 Video Game Awards on Saturday, Dec. 12. But the cover artwork has already been released (as seen above). It suggests the series will be rebooted even in name, and that EA is looking to gain a different audience this time around. The same audience, in fact, that made Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 the fastest-selling game of all time.
The word ‘Copycat’ springs to mind but I’m still interested to see what EA can come up with.

This is awesome news i will buy this game no doubt about that. And AFGHANISTAN awesome place for a game like this. Kudos to EA. Also this ain’t no copycat shit since Medal of Honor is way older then Call of Duty it was born on PlayStation.

I will be down for a new [Epic] Medal of Honor game.
if its graphically on par with CoD, B:BC or KZ2 and the gameplay is as smooth as CoD and also adding new elements to the genre this game will be awesome (I wonder who’s developing it)
the Only thing CoD has going for it is its smooth gameplay and super easy learning curve, basically everybody can start playing it for the first time and have a blast.
while games like KZ2, B:BC, Warhawk are more tactical and new player will probably get owned for weeks before having any fun with the game

You are so cute, MS hasn’t innovated anything aside from a console based online service that the consumer has to pay for. Everything else came long before, and the current gens offerings are evolutions of original ideas that came long ago. Nintendo created a mainstream market for consoles 20 years ago. Sony brought the use of Discs into the game. MS brought a dedicated online service to a console (though not the first online console game).
The only real advances in consoles since those basic concepts, are motion control and 3D. MS is using a camera for motion sensing to try capture some of the success of the wii’s motion control(admittedly a very cool stereoscopic camera) but wasn’t the first with a camera, nor the first to use a camera to capture motion. They are just taking it to the casual gamers, and marketting the shit out of it. 3D, if every truly viable, can be achieved by tricking the eye through trick glasses and displays, or by tricking the brain through headtracking. Both of these will be available through the PS3, but only headtracking is new.
What again has come solely from MS?
Avatars? (Mii)
Online community? (PC gaming for more than a decade before the original Xbox)
Facebook without a browser? (Facebook works with browsers, which both the PS3 and Wii already had since launch, and PC’s have had since Facebook launched)

I gotta admit, the gulp was very funny. But lets not forget that project natal is just a better version of what Sony already has (the ps eye). So neither MS or Sony came up with something truly original in E3.

I did give credit to the camera. Microsoft just showed them how to use it. And technically Microsoft only bought the tech from another company and now we have natal. As for motion it was sony who jumped to copy with the sixaxis controller and then said rumble was in the past but had to backpeddle when they finally heard the outcry and decided to pay of the lawsuit against them. So, sony put in a motion control (sixaxis) which is evoltionary from nintendo (no light bar) and they are copying, but Xbox goes motion sensing (a tech they bought, didn’t invent, as you say yourself) which is another evolutionary step (no controller) and they are awesome?
Further, Sony listens to its fans, and re-implements rumble into the controller line up, and you spin that as negative some how? (BTW, DS3 controllers still have sixaxis functionality, they didn’t drop it for rumble, you seem to be insinuating otherwise, can’t assume you aren’t ignorant). Yet I am sure MS responding to the RROD plaguing its fanbase and the basis for class action lawsuits, makes them awesome. InFuckingCredible, you just blew my mind. There has to be some sort of quantum explanation for this, but obviously I am too stupid to justify your hypocrisy further than your words.

You can say that Sony copied MS with the facebook integration, but I dont want to get into the whole “copying” argument. Plus, I think Rhino already cleared that up. If companies didnt copy each other, there would be a huge list of things 360 wouldnt have. Same can be said about PS3 too.
However, with the PS3, Sony is showing that PSN can be as good (if not better) than XboxLive… All while being _ _ _ _ (take a wild guess)
They didn’t announce it in any of there conferences for obvious reasons. 1st) its not really a bid deal, in my opinion atleast. 2nd) they wouldnt want to announce in a conference since that would only look bad after MS has already anounced it. Maybe theres more reason, but Im too lazy to think about it right now.
Oh, and I wasnt hating on Fable 3, I like fable infact. The fact that there whole conference was about Fable 3 tho, was pretty good indication they were seriously lacking in other things to show.

Hey BJ does AC2 continue the same story as AC1 did? I know the main character is a diff person and it is set in a diff time period. At the end of the first one there was quite a few unanswered questions especially at the very end. Was just wondering if they cleared any of those up or if it went in a totally diff direction??

Yeah it does carry on from where AC1 left off. The game goes into alot of detail about the “pieces of eden” and the mysterious subject 16.
you spend little time as desmond in this game, it’s more focused on whats happening in the animus.
Such an improvement from the first game I have to say.
Subject 16 leaves a paper trail in the animus, once you decrpit all the puzzles it reveals something kinda wierd.
The ending is also a complete mind fuck.
Once I started, I was compelled to find out more. Really great game.

Sony was not the first one to it and but the first company to have success with it, while all other console failed.
same for Nintendo. they were not the first one to use motion controller but they were the first one to be successfull at it.
Sony was the first to use the CD for true 3D graphics games.
Tekken 1 was not possible on any other console.

The puzzles near the end are actually quite a bitch to figure out, appart from the last one. Oddly any combination works for that one.
All the little clips form a video, this shines a little light on the pieces of eden, adam and eve etc. Kinda spooky.
I really enjoyed this game. It’s such a big step foreward from the original.
If nobody has Assassins Creed 2 yet, I suggest you give it a go.

I remember hotswapping burnt CDs with the Twisted metal games, once a stage was loaded you could swap in a music CD for the soundtrack. It worked for long multiplayer matches, as we would go for a long time on stages.
I remember I could do the same with some other games, but twisted metal was where we did it the most.

yes carlB I have play them both. I beat the first first Boss on DA:O and I wasnt impress at all.
I cant complain though because I bought on Black friday for $35. AC2 is far of a superior game.

I thought the same after I beat Demon’s Souls first boss Phalanx as well… slime, fire, beat it first time easily, though DS is much harder (unless you crank up the difficulty on DA: O). Btw, what origin story are you playing through in Dragon Age: Origins? Human Noble, Dalish Elf, City Elf, Dwarf Noble, Dwarf Commoner, or Mage? Each one’s playthrough is different for the first hour or so.

I don’t see any of your trophies for Dragon’s Age roca… you should get one after you complete the each origin story (more by the time you get to the first boss)… ? It says you were on 2 hours ago… and I only see 5% of trophies for AC2…?

whats your point? I got them both and have play them both I was very please with AC2 and very disappointed with DA:0,
I created a Elf Mage. I beat the demon in the fade, hade? I dont remember what that place is called. and no I didnt get any trophies for beating that stupid demon. I didnt get any trophies for beating the Knight in the fade that give me the staff or the bear that show the rat how to become a bear. yes NO TROPHIES but I indeed played the game.
the point is for $35 bucks I paid for it its an OK game. Demon’s Souls is much better and I couldn’t Stop playing and talking about until I beat it %100. you saw how deep some of us were into Demon’s Souls (Jofa, SW, BJ, Ghost, etc) and we stayed talking about it 24/7. while for dragon age the only thing I keep hearing here is the gay/lesbian action you can have in that game. or how horrible the game is on consoles.
thats why I said GET AC2 and get DA:O when it gets cheaper. AC2 is a much better game.

lol… that’s because you haven’t even gone through one of six introduction scenes yet. Give it a chance, it gets much better than what the intro provides.

lol…..I actually bought this game because of all the good things you said. I will definitely give it a try (maybe couple of playthrough) but I was a bit disappointed at first. lets hope it gets better.

It does… but we also have different tastes as far as some games are concerned. If money is not an issue, I would recommend getting both the DLC packs now available. Shale is an awesome tank, and the Warden’s keep gear and storage chest is very nice to have. A new DLC coming out the end of this month as well.
Have you purchased any of the Medal of Honor PSOne Classics games for PSP?

im not a big fan for DLCs,
I have only bought a KZ2 dlc and a CoD:WaW Nazi Zombies map #3. if I like the game I will definitely buy it (storage chest…really?)
as far as PSone Classic, I have Silent Hill (rocks on the PSP) and FF7. I owned both but $15 for the digital copy and ability to play them on the PS3 wont hurt.
I might get Medal on Honor for 5 bucks, I would get a lot more PS1 if they had trophy support
. it will at least justified replaying the game (like GoW collection)

Get used to DLC. Its obviously already full blown but I can see it getting even more ridiculous. I hate getting nickel & dimed.

Get used to games on demand starting to replace retail as well… I hear the prices are only so high now so they don’t screw over retail completely and give them a chance to adapt… with… something (I read they would start selling cards with download codes for games… but that seems kind of silly actually).
