Play Gran Turismo 5 demo to earn the right to race for real
Sony recently announced that Polyphony Digital and Nissan will be bringing GT Academy back next year. Only those with the best time trails from the Gran Turismo 5 demo, dropping this month, will be able to enter GT Academy.
In 2008, GT Academy took the best of the best from the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue time trials and flew them to Dubai to race in a 24-hour endurance challenge on a real race track. Before the race, the entrants received a training program to earn actual real life racing licenses.
According to the European Playstation Blog, Polyphony Digital will be dropping a time trial demo of Gran Turismo 5 in stores across the globe on Dec. 17. Gamers will have the opportunity to download the demo before Jan. 24. Those with the top time trail times will be flown to the next GT Academy to race in an actual race-tuned 370Z against other race car competitors.

Unfortunately for everyone else, those residing in Europe will only be eligible to enter GT Academy. However, those with the fastest time trial times in the U.S. will win a good amount of other stuff.
According to the US Playstation Blog:
The winner will receive round trip airfare and hotel accommodations for two (winner and guest) to attend the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, a.k.a. the Indy 500, on May 30, 2010. It doesn’t end there, because the winner and guest also get a VIP package which includes two (2) all-access passes for Carb Day – which includes the final Indy 500 practice, pit stop competition, special concert festivities, special event car rides in the 2010 Indy 500 event vehicle, as well as all-access passes to the garage, pit area, and Victory Lane for pre- and post-race celebrations for the race and two (2) VIP suite tickets to enjoy the race.
Either way, it sounds like a great contest Sony has going on. What race fan wouldn’t want to earn real race licenses and race behind a 370Z?

Canada is in, So am I!
Considering I was flirting with the top 10 in a lot of the time trials in GT5p, and most of the people above me were japanese or european, I might actually have a shot? Sweet, one can dream~

Jofamang,
You’ll probably make it. I’m not really all that good with driving games.
December 4th, 2009
Good luck Jofa.
There will be a lot more people in this demo.
My buddy had a 350Z and it was ok but one of the cheapest sports cars out there. Still a very nice car.
December 4th, 2009
Hey Jofamang, wish you success.
December 4th, 2009
Well i will not be buying this game not interested one bit it sounds like is gonna awesome but still %60 for just racing not. Even if NASCAR is tempting. The same goes for all offline games.
I might not even try the demo. Hopefully all your gamers would buy this game on day one and will download the demo too.

“Carb Day”
typo, that’s actually CarlB day
The right to race in real life is an awesome idea and sure to skyrocket sales for this title in Europe for hopefuls wanting to win the prize. How did the last winners (GT5P contest) do in the race btw?
December 4th, 2009
what contest? I have GT5p and there werent any contest, there were online events but thats about it
December 4th, 2009
that constent probably didnt make to the US. because I never head about it
December 4th, 2009
It would be a cool prize.
December 4th, 2009
When is this out?
December 4th, 2009
There was a contest in Japan I think for a nissan GT-R driver training and experience.
Yeah, demo is free, prologue wasn’t, the competition will be more plentiful. I don’t seriously hope to win, but you can be sure I will be doing my best, over and over and over again.

Roca, you got mail!
December 4th, 2009
Thanks Jofa.

Sorry, missed the sacred question.
I enjoy it, it’s not too hard, and has a lot a variability in play throughs and storylines. It is a casual Baldur’s gate type game. One can make a very complex game out of it, or one can choose not to, either way you can progress.
The graphics are nice, but there are framerate issues here and there. Nothing I haven’t gotten used to already.
I doubt I will chase the platinum in this title, just using it to tide me over until I get my raft of new titles next week, heh.

I heard it has multiplayer? is it coop?
December 4th, 2009
Yeah, there is co-op between accounts (my wife and have played together using our own toons) as well as an open online. I don’t have it set up on my first toon to accept online co-op (or PVP) as I don’t know anyone with the game, and not really interested in dealing with newbs, heh. If anyone I knew was to get to the game I would probably start a new toon. I don’t have the killer instinct with this title like I did with DS, taking it slow, really fleshing out the quests and exploring a lot. If you got a copy I think it might be perfect for killing some time. Not sure if the mics work with it, like I said, haven’t really played around with the online at all.

cool, ill see if I can give it a try before bying it.

“Last year the GT Academy programme unearthed a real driving talent in the form of Lucas Ordonez from Spain, who after winning the GT Academy went on to drive for the Nissan PlayStation race team and take an astonishing second place in the GT4 Championship – all in his first season!” – via Blog.eu.playstation.com
“British racing legend Johnny Herbert described the TOYO Tires 24h of Dubai endurance race as “a weekend of disappointments and great achievements†for the Nissan PlayStation racing team, in which he drove alongside GT Academy winner Lucas Ordóñez. “Lucas did brilliantly, producing a mistake-free drive under big pressure. He has achieved everything we had hoped from him and proved that it is possible to make the transition from virtual racing to the real thing.â€
As Lucas’s confidence grew and his lap times improved, it was difficult to believe that just four months ago, the only racing cars he was driving were in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on PlayStation 3. Many people at the event were surprised at how comfortable he has made the transition from virtual to reality, but not Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
“It is a dream come true for me to see my game develop a real racing driver,†he said. “I have been hoping for it to happen for ten years.â€
“Lucas’s performance has been excellent, but I would expect that from a driver trained using Gran Turismo. I haven’t had much time to watch him drive but he is very calm and never seems to worry. I always believed that someone good at GT could drive as fast as a professional; in fact, I think that they could even go faster.â€
Lucas, who had the honour of guiding the Nissan 350Z GT4 racing car over the finish line, beamed as his teammates and family crowded around him……”

Nice find Mike. Hopefully the winner can do a repeat or better next year. I wonder how many real drivers will use GT5…

Only Sony does this awesome things…

Yes, and they need to continue these kind of things in order to gain marketshare.

i guess Kaz is sticking to his strategy.
GT5 can’t compete against Forza 3 so they go out an create bullshit pr like this…lmao…
too bad they have to hype this instead of the features of the game, but then again, Kaz has already stated Forza 3 has more features than GT5, so i guess it’s moot.
“I always believed that someone good at GT could drive as fast as a professional; in fact, I think that they could even go faster.â€
LMAO!! that is the funniest shit i’ve read in a while….
no wonder you GT5 fanboys are retarded… Your leader is!!! LMAO!!!
