EA confirms Dead Space 2
2008 saw Dead Space released. A survival horror game set in space from a third-person perspective, it gained a brilliant critical response, with reviewers claiming it to be a bold, polished slice of next-gen gaming. It was also labeled the scariest game of all time, with nail-biting moments throughout. It didn’t sell as well as the reviews would indicate it should have but Dead Space 2 is still in development.
It was already pretty well known that a Dead Space sequel was on its way, with job listing leaking in the summer being the first indication. However, today came the official announcement of the existence of Dead Space 2, with a press release quoting Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2, saying:
We’re thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac’s journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of Necromorphs that need killing. In ‘Dead Space 2,’ not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.
The first game was anchored on board a mining ship, but it looks as though Dead Space 2 is going to throw the net a little wider. That could be a good move or a bad move depending on how the large environments and scale are handled. However, if the scare levels are increased and the repetition is decreased then this should be one to watch. No release schedule has yet been set.

I LOVED dead space on my PC. By far one of the scariest atmospheres I have experienced in a video game, and a real rush to get through.

Awesome news. Dead Space was one of my favorite games last year and still one of the best games this gen.
The game cost $20 now. There is no reason for someone to not go out and buy it to show support.

I like the part that is a Third Person Shooter not a FPS like the the others are. Hopefully it will way better then the first one not that the first one was bad.

you guys are insane. I just realized I’ll probably not be able to plat the new ratchet and clank. I refuse to look online for help and I can’t figure out two of clanks recording puzzles in the great clock. Each one issues out a gold bolt.

Nice, hope this one sells better. I want to know about the Black Marker.
None of my friends have it, and now that I had played the DS: Extraction, I want to try the first one so badly.
I would only change one thing from Extraction: there are 4 difficulty levels, but you can only play 2 from the beginning and those are not enough. At least a third one would have been ok.

I think I might still pick the first one up for PS3, if only to trophy whore it up. I heard the console versions are very smooth, so shouldn’t be too difficult to step down from my PC. Dead Space 2? Day 1.

The only let down was the final boss, not too difficult to beat. Looked pretty cool though.

one of the first times you meet that regen boss and you have to get out of the room and use that switch and you only have a specific amount of time to do it…part drove me nuts.
I do not know how someone can get the trophy “use only one gun” in that section as the crawling bug like things need to be squashed with the Force gun.
You’re right. Final boss was a breeze. I dies the first time fighting him and beat him with no problem the second time. I had more trouble with the zero grav tentacle mid boss.

I’m playing through it again on the hardest difficulty only using the downloadable “steam punk gun”. It’s pretty monsterous with all the circuts linked.
Kinda defeats the purpose of the challenge though I suppose.
Dead Space is the scariest game I have played on this generation of consoles. Condemned was pretty freaky too though.
