Splinter Cell Conviction demo coming in January

December 14, 2009

Splinter Cell Conviction demo coming in JanuaryThere has been very little information about Splinter Cell Conviction after E3 this year. In a surprising reveal, it seems like a demo of the game will be coming out in January, which is only a few weeks away.

In an interview with Hiphopgamer (via VG247), a Ubisoft employee reveals that a demo will be coming out in January with the final game coming out in February. Conviction looks like it’s going to be another winner for Ubisoft with a touch of Assassin’s Creed platforming thrown into the mix. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the tech for Conviction came out of Assassin’s Creed as both games are developed by the same team.

It is interesting that the Ubisoft rep decided to announce the demo this way instead of the traditional “big announcement” tease and reveal. It looks like Splinter Cell Conviction is shaping up nicely and gamers will be able to play it on their Xbox 360s or PCs right after the holidays.

    Probably the e3 demo.

  2. FahKinSuPah:

OMG… I thought that no one cared about Splinter Cell anymore and that the series was dead…

  3. Roca.:

Ahh PR talk. Just get the game out it’s been long enough. (CAD’s line ;) )

  4. oldschool1987:

    LOL @ Roca

  5. twilight:

I don’t mind waiting for games as long as the game turns out decently.

  6. CAD:

Hip Hop Gamer. I Like that site. I just love listening to dude on the Video Reviews. I get quite a bit of info from there and most of the stuff he said has happened. That site is a great source of information.

  7. phranctoast:

It’s good this game is also coming out on the PC. Same thing can be said about Alan Wake (if it turns out good) and Mass Effect 2.

Other than Halo Reach and Natal stuff, what exclusives does MS have up their sleeve that are truly just available on the 360?

  8. Happyhockum:

Why would I care if a game only comes out on Xbox?
I own an Xbox (and PC which I only occasionally use for gaming).

We all know the vast majority of 3rd party games are geared to and look better on Xbox so, as an Xbox owner, why would I give it a moments thought whether or not the game is also out on PC?

I am an occasional PC gamer but console games are best played on a console.

  9. phranctoast:

    I can’t ask a question?

It’s good for me that those other games also come out on PC as I have a decent PC (also used for work) so it’s fairly high end and taken care of in that respect.
I can get away with not buying a 360 for a majority of it’s exclusives.

So again. fair question. Which exclusives (in 2010) will not find their way on the PC?

  10. Happyhockum:

    phranctoast

It’s not an unreasonable question, of course.

But besides you, SW and a few others here
    (don’t forget Ivan’s time-warp June 2009 purchase, Vaio with 500gb SSD)
I just don’t see it as being a very relevant question.

I suspect that will hold true amongst most console owners too.

  11. SW:

“I am an occasional PC gamer but console games are best played on a console.”

*shakes fist* These days I’d disagree.

First of all the video on a decent PC destroys 360/PS3 video and the frame rate will be higher also (altho you could argue that a sucky PC would actually run worse ;) ).

Secondly, if you want mouse/keyboard control then sure for alot of games (e.g. resi 4, NFS) then yes many console games are suckage on PC.

But but but, I can plug my PS3 controller into my PC and play ported games just fine (altho, the 360 controller is probably better, for drivers, support etc.).

We probably get more crashes tho if its a sloppy port.

  12. phranctoast:

I understand I’m in the minority here, as you are with your standalone blu ray player and me nor you influence the market.

Anyway. I did some research myself.

-Crackdown 2 looks to be fully exclusive.
-Theres also speculation as to a Gears 3 release at the end of the year as the cycle is every two years so far.
-Does Lionhead have something up their sleeve? Could another Fable make it out so soon after F2?
-There also hasn’t been a Rare game in a bit.

I know it only Console Exclusive, but wtf happened to Huxley?

  13. Roca.:

Crackdown 2, Fable 3 and Halo Reach

The following titles will be available on PC

    Metro 2033
    Mass Effect 2
    Splinter Cell Conviction
    Kingdom Under Fire 2
    Alan Wake
    Tropico 3
    All Points Bulletin

Also Gears of War 2 is coming out on the PC next year

  14. SW:

    “but wtf happened to Huxley?”

It sucks thats what. Well, the beta did imo.

Why don’t games companies understand how to make decent FPS MMO’s?

  15. Happyhockum:

SW you’ll get no arguiment from me about how PCs are at least 2 or 3 years worth of graphics card updates ahead of consoles, not foregtting the 4gb of fast RAM that is common and the big 1tb+ sized HDDs – and that the Core2Duo, nevermind Quad core, (with the exception of Cells raw number crunching) left them behind for CPU.

I liked RTS on a PC (and have never got on with them on Xbox…..although Halo Wars is still one I’ve to try, I have it but not played it yet).

COD4 was great on PC with mouse & keyboard but it’s been an age since I’ve used that version.
Xbox just drew me in or those & I’m too used to the pad.

    MMOs?
I think it’s a case of too much going on for them to handle at once.
I’ve seen it said PS3 can manage slightly more than xbox but both are pretty unimpressive & weedy compared to what PC can do.

  16. phranctoast:

the closest the PS3 has to a FPS MMO is MAG, which graphically (in Beta) is nothing to write home about. It is nice they are trying something different though. There are very mixed previews/reviews about MAG. Some people just love it and some don’t. I fall into the latter category but I feel I need to give it more time to learn, and it has a very steep learning curve.

  17. Roca.:

“it has a very steep learning curve”

and most people dont go for the quick and easy CoD type of game play. I also think I will be giving MAG some serious time once the game come out.

I played the Beta for a lil while but never went back to it because they were so many games being released during that time

  18. Knighthawk:

Hope this game is AAA, looks good from what I have seen. My 360 is starving for a new AAA exclusive game, it seems like ages! Or perhaps I have been too busy with all the A games on my PS3? Can anyone reccommed a good A game for the 360? Think I’m going to get Bioshock 2 for the 360 instead of PS3 just to give the old girl a whirl! lol

  19. phranctoast:

    Roca
I played it and then got cut out of the beta as it went to preorder people. Now I believe its available to all again. I hope I don’t have to re download it with all the patched that took 45 minutes to download and install.

    Phranctoast

Why go there when you know regardless of Where the game ends up it is still a Microsoft Published game. Xbox 360 or Games for Windows. Does it really matter? Lets just call it a Microsoft Exclusive. I guess I can say the same thing about Grand Tursomo or Gods of War. It’s on the PSP and the PS3 so there it’s not exclusive to the PS3 anymore. How about Mario He’s on the Wii and the DS. Sorry Mairo your not exclusive anymore.

  21. Roca.:

    @ CAD
“Microsoft also created the Games For Windows branding program — pretty much, it’s a logo on the box that lets publishers like Activision and EA sell their PC titles under the “Games For Windows” brand name without paying royalties.” Kotaku

“It’s also important to note that Microsoft does not get royalties off of PC game sales. The Games for Windows label doesn’t cost a publisher anything, but Microsoft is pushing it to try and become a singular voice for PC gaming.” G4TV

  22. Roca.:

The 360 fanboy argues that if a game is available on 360/PC only, it is somehow a 360 exclusive. This sheer stupidity then leads 360 fanboys to argue that a game is “Microsoft” exclusive, so they can feel like they have an exclusive.

  23. Happyhockum:

    Roca

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

S’funny how it’s only you PS3 guys that get your panties in a wad about this.

Any old (pathetic) feeble dig, eh?

  24. phranctoast:

    @CAD

Roca made a great point BTW, but it wasn’t what I was looking for.

If the game comes out on the PC it eliminates the need to…. for me (who owns a decent rig) to have to own a Xbox 360.

You guys have said in the past thats theres not too much to distinguish the PS3 from the 360 except for a “small handful of exclusives”.
Well theres even less for me as most so called exclusives also wind up on the PC.

  25. Roca.:

    Er, great.
So long as the game is done as well on PC then you’re right.

Trust you to come rolling in whining about Sony and DRM – DRM, great, yayh.
    Jebus wept.

  27. phranctoast:

    lol @ happy.

he legitimately argued away CADs contradiction.

CAD said “MS makes money on PC stuff so Ha… you’re still giving them money”

Roca counters with two quotes disproving it while showing Sony in fact making money on PC games sold.. check and mate.

I realize you can’t stand him but damn… the boys done his research.

  28. Roca.:

“Like as if anyone other than you cares.”

CAD brought it up you idiot. you really can’t be any more of an idiot. why dont you go ahead and tell CAD if anyone cared. you have prove to be a xbot that whines about every Sony. get you your out of MS ass already would you.

  29. CON:

I’m really looking forward to this game. I remember when it first came out on ps2.

If you own a ps3 and pc go ahead and buy it for the pc. I don’t know why some of you see this as such a big issue for xbox users. As long as we have the game were happy. Sales figures will speak for themselves.

  30. CAD:

Games for Windows is a brand owned by Microsoft and introduced in 2006 to coincide with the release of Windows Vista. The brand represents a standardized technical certification program and online service for Windows games, bringing a measure of regulation to the PC game market in much the same way that console manufacturers regulate their platforms. The branding program is open to both first-party and third-party publishers.

  31. CAD:

Roca you are confusing the issue. Games for Windows and Microsoft Windows are not the same thing.

  32. CAD:

Games for Windows also uses LIVE so really Roca what you are saying is complete rubish.

  33. Happyhockum:

    Don’t worry about it CAD.

phranctoast just feels obliged to be kind & try to help one of his PS3 buddies out, no matter how stuck & stupid the other tw@t gets hiself.

    Phranctoast

That is understandable especially if you like gameing on a PC. But when you bring up exclusive and asking what exclusives do the 360 actually have it’s not that you want to play these games on PC but your actually starting a fued because really we all know your anti 360. Comments like that only come out from someone basically trying to make it look like PS3 is better and has more exclusives and that the 360 does not have exclusives because some are shared with the PC. The irony is that you will diss Microsoft and the 360 and say I can get it on PC but the actuallity is that you still support Microsoft buy buying a Game for Windows title.

  35. Roca.:

    HH

CAD still brought it up you idiot. glad you didnt go back to that comment.

    CAD

the point is PS3 and PC owner can basically the best of both worlds.

if I wanted 2 play L4D, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Splinter Cell, Alan Wake etc I can get them without even owning a 360. PS3 exclusive are more valuable to the its system because you cant really play them anywhere else.

Games for Windows or not…you can still play them without a 360 and without paying for XBL.

and if you say something like “its money for Microsoft” like you used to… then we already know who makes more money from PC games between Sony and Microsoft.

but anyways..I believed the question was:
“Other than Halo Reach and Natal stuff, what exclusives does MS have up their sleeve that are truly just available on the 360?”

  36. CAD:

Here is some news for you Roca. I don’t need to pay for LIVE to play any of those games on the 360. So get your story straight. Second We all know that you don’t need a 360 to play those games that are on the PC. As a 360 owner I really don’t care that the PC (Games for Windows) shares it’s games with the 360 because Xbox 360 game and “Games for Windows” are the same family. Just like PS3 PS2 PS PSP are all the same family. PC game that don’t bear the title “Games for Windows” and actually “Game for Windows” games are are two differnt things. It’s like going to the game store and seeing 360 and PS3 games. In fact wnen you go the the game store PC games are in one section, Games for Windows games are in there own section and of course 360, Wii, PS3/2/psp all have their own section. It blows my mind that something so stupid is repeated over and over again by the ignorant. Buying a 360 game is synonyms with their Game For Windows cusins. The real problem is like I said before you use this to say the 360 has no exclusives as a way to diss the 360 but you will buy it on the PC in an effort not to support the 360 and brag about it but regardless of your purchase on a Game for Windows title it the same as buying it for the 360 because you still support Microsoft and gave them your money. Sony gets non of that so what are you really talking about. I’m gald you can buy these games and play them but just realize you still support Microsoft.

  37. harry sachz:

I like to do my gaming in the living room, not the study. Hence why I haven’t bothered with getting a souped up PC which needs to be upgraded annually to keep up, it doesn’t interest me.

  38. Saber_HAHAha:

Agreed. It’s a lot nicer for me to sit on a nice plushy couch in front of the 58″ plasma, surrounded by speakers (I may be exaggerating the speaker part… I don’t have much. I have a $5000 TV and $100 sound system =P), then to game on the computer. I’m not a big PC gamer, in fact, I use an iMac.

  39. Roca.:

“I don’t need to pay for LIVE to play any of those games on the 360″

    just for Splinter Cell online/co-op

“second We all know that you don’t need a 360 to play those games that are on the PC”

    agreed

“purchase on a Game for Windows title it the same as buying it for the 360 because you still support Microsoft and gave them your money”

    not true

“Microsoft also created the Games For Windows branding program — pretty much, it’s a logo on the box that lets publishers like Activision and EA sell their PC titles under the “Games For Windows” brand name without paying royalties.” Kotaku

“It’s also important to note that Microsoft does not get royalties off of PC game sales. The Games for Windows label doesn’t cost a publisher anything, but Microsoft is pushing it to try and become a singular voice for PC gaming.” G4TV

“I said before you use this to say the 360 has no exclusives as a way to diss the 360″

acutally Exclusive means “only available on one console. as soon as those game are available somewhere else the “360 exclusive” no long applies

  40. Happyhockum:

    Saber_HAHAha

You’re missing out on a lot.
    Seriously.
Quality audio really makes the experience.
I know it costs but if you can get a high end audio set-up able to handle lossless audio it will make your high definition experience so much better.

  41. twilight:

I don’t know why but I’ve never really been interested in pc gaming. I’ve always just been into console gaming.

  42. me_:

Maybe we can say “not available on PS3″ instead of xbox exclusive. That’s what really matters when you’re comparing the systems after all.

  43. Saber_HAHAha:

    @Happy

Indeed, I recently found that out. Audio is a huge part of the experience, especially on a blu-ray. I’m getting a 5:1 system soon.

  44. ViRuS:

If Splinter Cell Conviction is even half as good as AC2, i’ll be pretty happy.

Crackdown 2 looks like a shitload of fun. (kinda like the first one)

  45. MisterX:

    @Roca

Playing Games for Windows means u actually have to buy window OS from Microsoft so technically. If u have iMac then sorry no can play, however u can install windows on the mac but that also mean u r buying Microsoftr product. Just FYI microsoft full version is the same price as PS3 or XBOX.

  46. Roca.:

too bad we can always get them for free :D

  47. phranctoast:

How is my response any different than Happy and CAD downplaying Blu ray in the PS3 as Happy has one in a stand alone and CAD has one in a laptop? slightly hypocritical if you ask me. I already commented that no one gives a shit about our preferences anyway.

I also love it when Roca comes back with two quotes that contradict CAD’s point and it’s dismissed as garbage. You guys must of really made yoursleves feel better with that.

As I stand.. I prefer to play games on a console over a PC (some FPS’s withstanding) for the reason of comfort and my TV is significantly bigger than my 24″ flat panel.

Whether I give money to MS in the form of the OS or some way by buying a games for windows game (Roca successfully disproved) I really don’t care either.

The point remains for me, that most of the best the 360 has to offer does not demand that I own a 360 at all.

Microsoft even noted this issue as how it could hurt 360 sales by releasing the PC game at the same time. The result is Gears and Gears 2 were held up, and it looks like Alan Wake will eventually be a PC title but not day a date with the 360 release.

  48. CON:

The majority of hardcore PC gamers wouldn’t piss on a console version. It’s a different market.

If you own a ps3 and claim it’s not exclusive…go and fucking buy it then, I’m sure MS aren’t that fussed. Money in the bank.

  49. Roca.:

    CON

read up and you will see Sony makes more money from PC than MS

  50. Roca.:

I really dont care because Im not a “hardcore” PC gamer but it still doesnt change the fact that I wont need a 360 console if in the future I want to play Mass Effect, Splinter Cell or Alan Wake.

I was thinking of getting a 360 for Alan Wake. but after looking at what the 360 has to offer in 2010 I dont really see anything that catch my attention besides Alan Wake. So if the game turns out to be good I will get it for the PC.

  51. CON:

ROCA PC is microsoft. If some ppl feel games are beginning to look better on PC they may considering buying a new PC.

  52. Roca.:

    “PC is microsoft”

    lmaooo

  53. phranctoast:

“If some ppl feel games are beginning to look better on PC they may considering buying a new PC.”

    beginning to look better?

  54. JofaMang:

As far as gaming goes, yes, PC gaming is 99% windows based. It’s a good thing that paying for an OS also gets you use of it’s other features, besides games. You know, photoeditting, browser, office programs, webcams, video and audio, etc etc.

One can replace all of the expensive programs with perfectly legal free versions for windows, and an OS license never really expires, the worst case scenario is EOL update and support status, which hasn’t come to pass for even XP.

I am using an XP64 serial that I found on a case I picked up at second hand store when building a computer for my sister 6 years ago. She had an xp32 serial from her old computer that died, so she didn’t need it.

I won’t claim that PC gaming is cheaper than consoles (it isn’t) but it doesn’t have to be a matter of giving MS money year after year. This year I will be giving them some cash for Win7u64, and I will probably be good for another 5-10 years with that serial, hopefully. If XP lasted me this long, Win7 should go at least for a few years before needing a new upgrade.

  55. JofaMang:

    @CON
PC gaming has always been ahead of consoles. The very first time in my life I thought it was coming close was with Uncharted 2 and I own a very top of the line gaming computer, I know how far PC graphics go. Uncharted 2 is close, but no cigar, the crown is still held by the undisputed champ, PC.

When a console can output 60fps @ 2560×1600, it can compete today, but by that time PC gaming will be even further ahead, if it doesn’t die out completely by then. When I get my 2 new monitors after christmas, I will be able to game very comportably at 5760×1080, compared to console gaming which current caps at basically 1280×720 aside from a few PS3 titles.

The difference is, that for me to be able to play at those resolutions at 60fps+, I had to spend 900 on just my CPU and GPU, not to mention the rest of the rig and the extra monitors. We all know that consoles are the smarter gaming choice economically, and have come a long way in terms of graphics compared to PCs, but the PC is still by far the king for eye candy.

For the geeks that care, I recently installed a PII C3 965×4 OC’d to 4.2ghz, and a 5970 OC’d to 800/1100mhz. I can’t wait to game on eyefinity in triple HD!

  56. Roca.:

Jofa you forgot that ODST look just as good ;)

I know you missed it buy HH actually claimed that ODST, Gears 2 and Ace Combat 6 are on par with Uncharted 2 in terms of graphics

  57. JofaMang:

Oh i caught it, just didn’t want to justify it with a response.

  58. ToshithegreaT:

Actually titles that are published by MS, do make them money (even if sold on PC).. Plz people do ur research

  59. phranctoast:

“Actually titles that are published by MS, do make them money (even if sold on PC).. Plz people do ur research”

Which is why MS deliberately hold those titles back on the PC. (Gears, Gears2, Alan Wake).

Not all the games are published by MS btw. (L4D, Mass Effect) aren’t when the PC is concerned.

In fact toshi.. you can pretty much count it on one hand the games MS published that are available on the PC as well.

  60. CON:

Either way if you own a PC and PS3 go ahead and buy the xbox titles on PC. I still view them as a different market for MS.

The best perk is PC and xbox users get to link up on LIVE with certain games.

  61. phranctoast:

Other than Shadowrun and FF11 what other games do PC and Xbox users join up on?

  62. ToshithegreaT:

Actually i dont even consider pc as a viable gaming platform, and i am sure many dont.. i am just not that much comfortable with a mouse and keyboard anymore..

PS2 emulation is already possible on most computers, but people still buy plenty of ps2′s.. And i m sure down the line, we will see ps3 emulation on pc too, but i wont be the one to use it, if i had been inetersted in any ps3 game, i wud have bought a ps3 for that :)

  63. ToshithegreaT:

“Which is why MS deliberately hold those titles back on the PC. (Gears, Gears2, Alan Wake).”

  66. JofaMang:

    @Toshi
PS2 emulation is NOT viable without an expensive computer. It requires a strong Processor and GPU, and a $99 PS2 makes much more sense. There is no way that PS2 emulation on a computer would cannibilize sales, considering the hardware needed to run it as smooth as a PS2 itself.
