Am I the only one disappointed by the GT5 demo / GT Academy time trial?

December 18, 2009

Am I the only one disappointed by the GT5 demo / GT Academy time trial? It’s been four years since Gran Turismo 4 was released. And we’re still waiting for Gran Turismo 5. So forgive me for expecting more for the first sighting of the game in the wild. Because for me the GT5 demo / GT Academy time trial is very disappointing.

I know it isn’t a proper demo, having been released purely to sort the wheat from the chaff for the GT Academy contest. However, I still expected more.

The graphics are rather flat, dull, and devoid of life. The physics engine is definitely an improvement on GT5: Prologue, but still nothing groundbreaking. There’s no damage modeling on the cars, and the one car/one track experience left me rather deflated.

Sure, this demo (of sorts) is clearly based on an older build of the game than where it’s at now, but I still expected more.

Maybe the fact I suck at the time trial and am currently sitting somewhere in mid-table in the rankings has tainted my experience. But I somehow doubt it. All this has ended up doing is lessening my anticipation for the full Gran Turismo 5 game.

The question is am I alone in being disappointed?

    Don’t worry Dave, it’s coming.

By about the 2nd year into PS4 you might just be able to buy the actual game in the shops (or on-line).

    ;)

  2. JofaMang:

I was 11th when I went to bed last night, and woke up in 220th, heh. I too was a little dissapointed by the environment graphics, but the game engine is sound. It is leaps ahead of GT5p, which in itself was rather sound in its driving dynamics.

What did surprise me, though, is that the entire demo is only 203mb. Considering it’s environment graphics being rather dull, I assume they trimmed some texturing for download size, and of course, it is only one track and one car, and the car itself looks great.

  3. Liquid:

yeah a bit dissapointed but it looks like the alpha build. still gt5 will be amazing when it comes out.

  4. CAD:

Yeah I watched a Video on IGN last night and I was saying the same thing. The driving looked good but some reviews I read said the moment you come off the track it’s almost imposible to get the car back on. It looked like it was in compitition with Pole Position.

  5. Ivan_PSP:

I was surprise by the 203 MB even if is just one track plus one car it might not be fully 1080p. The car looked great in graphics. I hate that the game is so hard to control i will not be buying this game.I know millions would buy it no matter what just for the name GT. I hate racing games. Sony made themselves love awful by releasing this crap.

  6. Liquid:

apparently two new sony games next year will be warhawks sequel Starhawk and a new IP called dominion. also studio cambridge and sony bend have two new projects underway and insomniac is working on resistance 3 plus more are expected to be announced at E3. . .

  7. Saber_HAHAha:

Didn’t try it yet, but I’m not ready to judge the game off of it. If all of you are disappointed, I’m sure that I will be also. However, the only thing that matters now is the full game. When it (finally) comes, we will judge from there.

I’m also surprised by the small download size.

“Microsoft has invested significant money and time to ensure its upcoming motion controller Natal is as accomplished as its host console, yet suspected “lag issues” may curb the peripheral’s chances of success.

That was the view offered by Traveller’s Tales company director Jon Burton, who told Develop that his own experience with the hands-free controller raised doubts.

“I was actually more impressed with Sony’s motion capture solution than Microsoft’s Natal,” he said as part of this week’s Develop Jury Service.

“[Natal is] exceedingly clever, but the lag on the input and lack of physical buttons is really going to restrict the kind of games that can be done with it,” he added, before going on to praise Sony’s (currently nameless) alternative.

“Sony’s solution will be cheap, accurate and will put buttons at your fingertips, meaning everything from action adventures to FPSes can be handled with the same input.”

  9. Liquid:

    natal will be sh!t

  10. CAD:

Roca Thank you for sharing the thoughts of a man with no Vision.

  11. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

i want the racing wheel but i might as well get a car 4 that price lol

  12. Happyhockum:

    Liquid

Yeah, cos you’d know all aboput sh!te, eh?

Too chicken-sh!tty to post as your usual name here, huh?

  13. Liquid:

wtf are you on about? i joined this site the other day, explain you fucking retard

  14. Roca.:

happy should be talking…we all know who he really is…right kev?

  15. Sorral:

With the quality MS had on their 360, imagine them rushing Natal out of the door to go against the Wii or Sony’s wand.

On topic: The demo seems to be very compressed, I don’t think it is the latest build either. Kazunori Yamauchi is a big perfectionist and I wouldn’t think he would let the game itself out like this demo.

  16. Happyhockum:

    Roca

    Yeah, right on cue.

    Pathetic.

  17. Saber_HAHAha:

Oh no children, don’t start on about this alter-identity bullshit…

  18. Happyhockum:

Roca’s just sore that everyone knows he’s Ivan using a different PC at the office he sweeps up in.

  19. Liquid:

and we know your CON,CAD and Kev

  20. Saber_HAHAha:

I must be the only one who sees almost no resemblance between Roca and Ivan, and CON, CAD, kev, and Happy. The only similarity is the console they represent.

  21. Happyhockum:

    Oh dear, tripped up again.

S’funny how the one claiming to be brand new here knows about CON, CAD & kev.

“we know” is also a bit of a giveaway, the sad little fanboy gang of all of, what 1 or 2, at work, huh?

    Pathetic.

  22. Happyhockum:

    Saber_HAHAha

Roca is Ivan tonned down, he’s been caught out a few times if I recall rightly.

You’re not the only one who knows CON, CAD, kev & I are not the same posters.

It’s just the little PS3 fanboy clique that are pi$$ed off when their little socky games are exposed, they have no real intellectual ability so the best they can manage is to, eventually – it took them about 6mths – parrot back what is said about them.

It would be a bit sad if it wasn’t so laughably feeble.

  23. Saber_HAHAha:

    @ Happy

Well, if you are talking about Liquid, I wouldn’t make a judgement like that. I read this site for a good 4 months before I finally decided to join, and I got to know each member like the back of my hand. I doubt that he was an existing member. Sega is probably the only person who’s made alter-accounts, and he just screws around.

I hope all of you are just taking jabs at each other (judging from comments, I believe that is the case), and don’t actually believe that each posse is the same person.

Both the 360 and PS3 fanbases can sink extremely low in terms of argument and credibility, usually when their console is doing worse, or there is good news for the other. I’ve seen it multiple times. During 06-07 PS3 fans were in tears due to lack of success, but the Xbox group is starting to get a little jealous. That’s not directed towards you, but towards the people who bash PS3 games simply for being a PS3 game. Games that, if it was on their platform, they would be worshipping and bragging about to no end. They know who they are.

  24. Liquid:

true saber, i have been reading this site for a couple of weeks but decided to join yesterday, the comments section has some of the funniest stuff ive read, the arguments always turn into something off topic lol

  25. Saber_HAHAha:

Bwaha! So I was right! …not like that is a rare occurrence…

And yes, the comment section is the real reason why I love Blorge (that and Dave Parrack ;) brownie points?). Some of the things here are just plain priceless. I’ve seen arguments on the weirdest ever things.

I also learned a VERY important life lesson the hard way.

Never, EVER click on Harry’s name without first checking the link. Boy that was gross. Right when a big pot of stew was ready for me to eat…

  26. Saber_HAHAha:

    Hey, I made a smiley… I’m genna do a little test here

    ;) :( :) =-) =-( =’(

    (__i__)

    Done.

By the way, how do I change my avatar next to my name?

  27. Liquid:

    why what is it?

  28. Saber_HAHAha:

If you’re asking about the avatar thingy, it’s the little dude to the left of your name. Lots of people have pictures there, so there’s a way to change it that I have not yet hunted down.

  29. Liquid:

    no about harry

  30. Saber_HAHAha:

Ah. It was a link to a website called “scatlovers”. My conscience denies me telling you what the picture was. It involved 2 girls, poo, and mouths. Crap, I just told you.

I think that somebody told him something along the lines of “my son saw when I clicked on it” and pretty soon he changed it. Not sure what it is now. Pretty bad, but I’ve seen a lot worse.

  31. Liquid:

haha same, was it two girls and one cup? lol

  32. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

saber go to gravatar.com and you sign up you give ur email, and they give u a send u a confirmation thing u can choose numerous pics either from ur camera, computer, website, etc good luck

  33. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

    srry grammar

  34. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

idk wats worse, 2 girls 1 cup or 2 girls 1 finger. some ate up ppl out there

  35. Saber_HAHAha:

Not sure, never saw the video. This was just a picture. I’m am not into the whole “shock video” thing. The worst I’ve seen was “kids in the sandbox”. I’d suggest not to watch it, but it didn’t really bother me.

The WORST shock video is supposed to be “3 guys 1 hammer”. I never saw it, but I know what happens, and it’s sick and cruel.

And thanks Kevo I’ll try to get it working sometime.

  36. Saber_HAHAha:

Oh, and I tried the GT5 demo. I wasn’t disappointed, since I’m not exactly hyped up for the game. However, if that is an early build, the final product should be pretty much amazing. The environment wasn’t to fancy, but the car models looked nearly real. No damage in this demo that I’ve seen, though.

  37. oldschool1987:

Personally I thought the demo was a bag of wank.

  38. George Gardner:

    No, it sucked for sure.

  39. Liquid:

wat is kids in the sandbox? 3 guys one hammer is disgusting, i could only watch 10secs of it

  40. Saber_HAHAha:

Google it. Has nothing to do with kids or a sandbox, but it looks extremely painful. I watched without sound, but I know there was screams. I’m not too sensitive, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you are.

  41. Liquid:

i read about it, ouch! lol also look up “shock sites encyclopedia dramatica” theres a whole long list of sick shit on it, jarspuatters will just leave you speechless lol

  42. Saber_HAHAha:

Uhg. That reminds me of the single WORST web page in history. The Encyclopedia Dramatica “offended” article. I never went there, but I watched a youtube video where a person goes on and describes each picture.

Is posting that kind of stuff even LEGAL?

  43. Liquid:

it should be illegal, there are a lot of messed up people out there

  44. SW:

Am I the only one disappointed by the GT5 demo / GT Academy time trial?

    Short answer : No. ;)

  45. harry sachz:

I saw the youtube trailer thingy, it looked like it was a really early build. Strange way to advertise a marquee game.

  46. Roca.:

the new GT demo look horrible compare to the GT demo released in 2006 or compared to GT5p.

maybe it has something to do with it being compressed to 208MB. that makes me worry about the compression of FF13 on the 360

  47. harry sachz:

Why would you be worried Roca? You don’t even own a 360.

  48. Roca.:

worry about the game being compress to shit just to make it fit into 3 DVDs.

but you are right. I shouldnt be worried since the PS3 version will have uncompress visual and audio and a couple of extra features.

  49. harry sachz:

Even if there is a difference, I doubt it would be major. I mean, a PBot here said they didn’t see any difference between the 360 version and PS3 version of Bayonetta, even though the review sites said that there was quite the difference. So if a PBot can’t see a difference between those 2 version of this game, then by using that logic I am sure that both versions of FF13 will be identical too.

  50. Barnabe Jones:

Honestly, I think the track on the HD concept demo was better. It looked better and it was more exciting.

I’m pretty sure the cars handled the same, but they did look better than the HD concept.

So, the driving felt great, but the track was pretty unimpressive. The HD concept demo had more/better tracks and more cars.

  51. Roca.:

“So, the driving felt great, but the track was pretty unimpressive. The HD concept demo had more/better tracks and more cars”

    its because the compression BJ

    @ Harry,

the visual difference in Bayonetta are not because of compression but because of two different studios handling the game. there is no need for compression when your using a Bluray disc.

  52. CarlB:

    @roca,

“there is no need for compression when your using a Bluray disc.”

…no, just slower read speeds and data redundancy on the discs themselves. I’m sure the difference in quality won’t be as obvious as it is with Bayonetta though, so both 360 and PS3 gamers will be satisfied.

    @Harry,

    Nice choice of words… cheers… ;)

  53. Roca.:

    Bluray vs DVD

    Storage capacity:
    BD – 50GB (dual-layer)
    DVD – 8.5GB (dual-layer)

    Hard coating:
    BD – Yes
    DVD – No

    Data transfer rate (data)
    BD – 36.0Mbps (1x)
    DVD – 11.08Mbps (1x)

    Data transfer rate (video/audio):
    BD – 54.0Mbps (1x)
    DVD – 10.08Mbps (1x)

    Video resolution (max)
    BD – 1920×1080 (1080p)
    DVD – 720×480/720×576 (480i/576i) < – 360 are always upcaled

Video bit rate (max): <— which on is faster again??
    BD – 40.0Mbps
    DVD – 9.8Mbps

  54. Roca.:

“The large NA value effectively means that Blu-ray will require less recording power and lower disc rotation speed than DVD and HD-DVD to achieve the same data transfer rate”

  55. phranctoast:

Sometime in the past I posted some drive speed times where it clearly shows the PS3 blu ray laser being quicker than the 360 DVD laser.

The seek time is where the 360 wins and that is the reason installs are required for some games.

  56. phranctoast:

    h**p://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/105/1056254p1.html

  57. Happyhockum:

    Roca

    Why do you bother?
You obviously know nothing about the tech so why pretend that you do?

DVD transfer rates can be variable (hence HD DVDs X30 tech).
DVD has no innate resolution cap.

Video bit-rate is not limited as you claim either.

Go and look at any decent .mkv.
It can be burnt to DVD with transfer rates (the video & audio bit-rate) and resolutions much higher than you claim here.

DVD is merely a container, like Blu-ray.

Multiple DVDs saved to hard disc are a cheap & effective way of packaging data.

As is usual you are also hung up on the idea that all Blu-rays operate at the max possible spec.
    They don’t.

HD DVD for instance did not need a bit-rate as high as Blu-ray’s theoretical maximum – in fact Blu-ray (with a decent modern codec like VC-1 and AVC) doesn’t need it either.

Blu-ray’s maximum bit-rate was solely designed to allow Sony to use MPEG2
(the oldest and least efficient of the 3 codecs – that HD DVD & Blu-ray both mandated)
and try to avoid using the Microsoft codec (VC-1…..which isn’t a Microsoft codec anyway, you should see the list of patent holders).

One day you might get a clue about what you’re talking about instead of blithely spouting your usual fanboy ignorance.

  58. phranctoast:

    That was pretty mean Happy.

I think the overall point that was being made was whether or not the 360 version of FF13 would have HD cutscenes or would they be DVD resolution to save space.

HD cutscenes will take up a lot of space and it’s not exactly a luxury the DVD shares with blu ray.

  59. Happyhockum:

    phranctoast

It’s not in the slightest bit mean, it’s a fair response to that w@nker’s standard tactic.

He is trying to claim there is an inherent technical reason why producing and distributing the game on DVD is necessarily inferior to Blu-ray.

The fact that he presents a stack of half-a$$ed and completely misunderstood technical BS just compounds his attempt to misinform.

    As for the cut scenes?
    Who cares?
Cut the lot of them and go with upscaled SD footage, almost nobody will notice nevermind care.

The game itself is supposed to be the point, right?

  60. phranctoast:

Of course the game is the point but FF games have always had the most beautiful CGI scenes in games. That in 1080p has got to be awesome.

  61. Roca.:

do you know what your talking about HH? really, anything coming from you is pure BS.

    “Avatar is shit” – HH

“BD got 5 years left” – HH

“ODST look better than Uncharted 2″ – HH

“go with upscaled SD footage, almost nobody will notice nevermind care” – HH

“PS3 Cell is dead” – HH

why are you bring a dead format to this conversation, we were talking about PS3 BD drive vs 360 DVD drive so one cares about all that jazz that you just wrote which was not releated to the topic we were discussing

One day HH you might get a clue about what you’re talking about instead of pathetic daily 360 BS rants

Phranc is smarter than you and he obviosly got the point. you (kev) on the other hand let you blind fanboy instincs get over your retarded head

and if you have a problem with the specs I posted, the go filed a complaint here:
    http://www.blu-ray.com/faq/

  62. Happyhockum:

    Roca

    There there there.

You made a tw@t of yourself (again) but nevermind, a list of lies is the best you can manage to try and change the point.

Don’t bother with your Blu-ray.com fanzine site, that was lost to the f*ckweith fanboy element years ago, so it’s not surprise you get stupid info there.

Your taking info about a retail movie DVD verses a Blu-ray disc and thinking that applies across the board.
Of course you haven’t a clue what you’re talking about.

Amusingly, you scour the net to try and plug the gaps in your knowledge but unfortunately if you have no basic understanding you just end up spouting cr@p, as is usual for you.

  63. Roca.:

we were talking about PS3 reads vs 360 read so STFU you idiot.

look at all BS quotes you have come up with you retarted fuck, you frustration to prove the 360 is “actually better” than the PS3 is showing….BADLY

and all this BS coming from the guy who use to talk shit about Bluray but he went and played extra money for a stand alone BD player…..looks like you really were interested in a feature that comes in every single PS3 at no cost.

  64. Happyhockum:

Yeah and you can’t even get that right.

You see a little bit of text about movie DVD and suddenly you’re an expert on what can and cannot be done putting a game on DVD.

You’re just too damned stupid to get it right.

Similarly you just too damned stupid to understand why anyone would want a Blu-ray player far superior to PS3.
I got far more ‘features’ (actually capability is more accurate) than you game console.
    Wtf would anyone prefer less?

Have you got region free blu-ray? No.
Have you got region free DVD? No.
Have you got proper bitstreaming? Only just recently.
Have you got HD DVD playback? No.

  65. Roca.:

“Have you got region free blu-ray? yes
75%-80% of the BD moves are region free

“Have you got region free DVD?” who cares
ask me the when was the last time I bought movie on DVD

“Have you got proper bitstreaming? Only just recently” yes thanks for asking

“Have you got HD DVD playback? thats a dead format right?
but no it doesnt have HD DVD play, im glad it doesnt btw

now does you BD player play PS3 games?
does it netflix access for free?
    can you download/rent HD movies?
    is it 3D capable?
does it have a web browser?
    does it have PSP connectivity?
Can you transfer you Digital Media content to a PSP you enjoy them on the go?
does it have a Digital Comic book store?

the PS3 is by far on the best BD player out right (critically recognized by the Media) so just save w.e BS you have to save because you have been proven to be a whinning xbot who rather go against the truth than make a compliment to the PS3 or anything Sony

    “Avatar is shit” – HH
while the movie is scoring a average of 83 out of 100
    “Universal acclaim” according to metacritic

“ODST look better than Uncharted 2″ – HH
yet the game has been praise as the best looking game this gen by the media and gamers. it also won “BEST GRAPHICS” at E3 and at VGA 2009

“Uncharted is not the best game between PS3/360″ – HH
it has won many GOTY awards and it is the highest reated exclusive this gen

“go with upscaled SD footage, almost nobody will notice nevermind care” – HH
    really? lol

  66. Happyhockum:

    Roca

    Stop lying.
You do not have a region-free Blu-0ray player, you are simply relying on claiming a lot of Blu-rays are not region coded.
    Yet.

You do not have region-free DVD.

You do not get HD DVD playback.

My Blu-ray player is for playing movies.

You game console is a game console that can alos play Blu-rays, I know which one I am happyt to have and which one I do not want in my a/v rack, thanks.

I do not need netflix (I do not live in the USA).

I do have Sky Player on my Xbox.

I do not need a (Pi$$ poor) web browser, I have a decent PC thanks.

I have no interest in PSP.

3D at home is of no interest to me either.

(oh and btw lets see if you can google this one, tell everyone how much those shuttered glasses are right now, I dare you)

Typical that you have to rely on a review to tell you what to think regrd ing the Avatar film.
Undoubtedly you couldn’t spot a derivitive and hackneyed load of old tosh – unless a review told you so.

ALl your latest little raving list does is prove you’re as laughably tedious & stupid as I originally said, idiot shill.

  67. phranctoast:

“He is trying to claim there is an inherent technical reason why producing and distributing the game on DVD is necessarily inferior to Blu-ray.”

If the game comes on 5 discs then there should be no inherently technical reason why in would be different. Space is the biggest factor.

  68. Roca.:

“Some current estimates suggest 70% of available Blu-ray (movie) discs from the major studios are region-code-free and can therefore be played on any Blu-ray Disc player, in any region.[68]

Movie studios have different region coding policies. Among major U.S. studios, Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios have released all of their titles region-free.[69][70] Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. have released most of their titles region-free”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes

again HH your full of shit

  69. Roca.:

my point was the you got jacked by MS. because you didnt get a BD player on your console, instead you ended up buying a add-on for a dead format and then you spent even more money on a BD player.

your level of intelligence is quite sad

  70. phranctoast:

Anybody see the ign link I posted.

Apparently they were very impressed with the new fiziks.

I guess kev shouldn’t have judged based on GT4 and GT5P.

  71. Roca.:

save the link for a day when Kev and his crew is around

  72. Happyhockum:

    Roca

Like I said, you’re so obviously too stupid to understand the info you’re attempting to (mis)use.

    You’re a PR’ing shill.
Plain & simple (with the emphasis on the simple).

  73. Happyhockum:

So, even by your own idiocy.

30% of Blu-ray discs (at this very early stage) are closed to you?

    Too bad.

  74. Roca.:

    w.e HH

I have many BD movies (more than you) and I have no region-coded issues with non of them. go figured

but anyways thanks for showing you actually care about BD after all that you actually bought after after all the “hate” talk

  75. phranctoast:

Maybe it’s just me and could be as I live in NA, but are discs locked due to region really an issue?

I personally would be ticked at not being able to play 3D movies on your current standalone but you already said that feature is useless to you…..

  76. Roca.:

“I personally would be ticked at not being able to play 3D movies on your current standalone but you already said that feature is useless to you”

mostly because his dated system will be getting any of it :D

  77. Happyhockum:

    Pathetic.

You’re still trying to defend the indefensible.

You’re struck with region coding, like it or not.

I see you also chickened out of admitting that the shutter glasses needed for the 3D now being poushed are in the $200+ US region.

Maybe you ought to let phranctoast & the rest in on how much they’re going to be expected to shell out on a dodgy passing fad before they gets too excited.

  78. Roca.:

“You’re struck with region coding, like it or not.”

you are struck? lol try it in English

btw didnt I said about 70% of BD movies are region free. and all the movies im interested in are available in America.

“Maybe you ought to let phranctoast & the rest in on how much they’re going to be expected to shell out on a dodgy passing fad before they gets too excited.”

no much since our BD player/Gaming system is already capable of it.

system like your stuck with a outdated console and a outdated player and a dead add-on (if you still have)

  79. Happyhockum:

    Stuck.

    Nice dodge.

The only movies you are interested in are the American releases?!

    LMAO

You see, you’re not a movie lover at all.
    You’re a game console lover.

Typical of uyou to dodge the point aboput those shutter glasses.
It doesn’t matter what they claim about the PS3 you need them too.
    $200 US a pop.

Got a wife – or even a wife you claim is ok with being called a girlfriend – that’s $400 US.
    Got kids?
    Keep hitting that cash register.
    $200 US each.

Not exactly what you call mass-market appeal.

  80. phranctoast:

“Maybe you ought to let phranctoast & the rest in on how much they’re going to be expected to shell out on a dodgy passing fad before they gets too excited.”

    I never mentioned natal…..

  81. phranctoast:

Who’s to say how much they’ll be next year.

  82. Happyhockum:

    phranctoast

The thing is, joking about Natal (which you have no idea of the cost of) aside, those glasses are out right now.
They do actually cost around $200 US, right now.

Joke about that, if you can.

We’re all waiting to find out how much Natal will be, the tales being told right now are that it’ll not be as much as many have been expecting.

But we’ll have to wait & see.

Nevertheless you’re pitting a known against an unknown.

Those glasses cost a lot (especially if this is to be more than a solo venture, that’s just a fact).
Right now in the shops (that is, those stores where you can find them).

Even if they were to half in price in a year (which is a big if if the take-up stalls and the numbers being produced does not ramp up to cut costs fast enough) that’s still $200 for 2 pair and for a family of 2 adults and 3 kids $500.

That’s a lot of cash for an effect that isnt going to be done in every movie or done well in each it now comes in (cos they won’t all get the budget Avatar had).

  83. phranctoast:

    @happy.

I was really joking at the “dodgy passing fad” more than it’s unknown price. I have little faith in peripherals.

if they stay that price it’s obviously a lot of cash. If they want it to take off they will have to get it out of that elite price range that.

  84. Happyhockum:

    phranctoast

That’s the point, the more decent 3D costs and I just don’t see enough support for it ever to get cost-effective in the mass-market.

It’s chicken and egg, they need huge sales to get cheap enough but they won’t get the huge sales at the prices they are now.

I just can’t see enough 3D quality material appearing to catch on, it’s the same old problem.
For every $300 – $500 million spent on decent CGI there’s a stack of cheapo cr@p bound to make people just laugh & turn right off.

  85. phranctoast:

    I’ll get to that tomorrow.
    Damn 151..

I made the nicest concoction. 151/LI Iced T mix and wine.

Don’t try this at home kiddies.

  86. SW:

    I’m confused.

HH maybe you can explain it to me. How come at the movies we can where those polarized glasses but at home we’re going to need LCD shutter glasses?

(which you can get for $140 for 2 pair here ;) 3dstereo.com/viewmaster/gsh.html )

Why can’t they just use the polarized glasses like IMAX does :(

  87. phranctoast:

Silly rabbit.. Because inflated prices are key to argument enders..

  88. Roca.:

he is just mad that he is stuck with a gaming system not capable of 3D gaming or BD playability

  89. Happyhockum:

    SW

Well I guess you better hope that they settle on the non-shutter glasses system then.

As I understand it PS3 is to ready for either method they settle upon.

    Roca

Take your infantile pathetic notions and place them where it’s least comfortable.

  90. SW:

So we don’t HAVE to use the shutter ones then…

Well, here’s hoping they got with the polarized \o/

  91. kev:

    no, dave…you’re not alone.

“meh” at best. certainly not up to Forza 3, but a nice attempt…

  92. Happyhockum:

    SW

No that’s not what it means afaik.

The PS3 is ‘agnostic’ to which system they settle on, but if they do settle on the shuttering glasses then you will need them.

And a brand new HD TV.

This thing does not have ‘mass appeal’ attached to it by any credible reckoning.

  93. Roca.:

HH forver hating. not everybody is cheap like you (even though you ended up spending more money buying separately every single thing the PS3 has – for free)

    MS loves you

  94. Happyhockum:

    Roca

    Just admit it.

You need a brand new HD TV for this.

Naturally you’re here just to whine whatever positive spin you can and you are the one in fact who hates to see the full truth told.

    You’re pathetic.

WTF has Microsoft got to do with LG?
I bought an LG multi-format high definition player.
    Not a Microsoft one.
You’re silly game console is nothing like the same sort of multi-format video player at all.

    You tedious idiot.

Franjkly I couldn’t give a flying f*ck what Microsoft think.

….but the fact you actually talk like that just indictes your own laughably sad and obvious fanboyism.

    Like I said, you’re pathetic.

  95. Roca.:

“You need a brand new HD TV for this”

you did bought the HD-DVD add on for the 360, and the wi-fi, and the battery pack and you are still paying for online play, you can’t get more than 250GB of HDD on your system and the $120 cost $150 for the ppl that still have 20GBs or 60GBs.

but wait there is more…you also bought a BD player and BD movies after all the crap you have talked about bluray.

and if I need to get a new HDTV then I will, just like you needed a “new” BD player, simple as that.

im on my 3rd HDTV in 3 year. I usually sell my old one before Black Friday and then I get a new (better) one on black friday for way less of what they usually cost.

  96. Happyhockum:

    I bought the HD DVD add-on for £20 brand new (that’s $32 US – $36 AUS).
It’s a nice spare to keep boxed up just in case.
    Big deal.

I bought the Xbox wi-fi and then went to a wired connection & so I eBayed it, I got all my money back.
    And what?

I have a 500gb external drive formatted for the Xbox to skip the FAT32 limits.
I have 1 x PC with 2tb of memory I can stream from and a 2nd PC with 1.5tb of memory I can stream off of.
    I’m fine for capacity, thanks.

Those who want can source & use the exact same Western Digital 120gb 2.5″ hard drive the Elite uses themselves.
Your prices are utterly laughable and as always at the most high extreme.

Anyone interested should look here –
    h**p://**w.pcworld.com/article/150970/upgrade_your_xbox_360s_hard_drive_on_the_cheap.html

You’re obviously too dim to work this out but my buying into Blu-ray with my eyes wide open is entirely different to your idiotic fanboy wailing for it.

Big TV shows ditching the Blu-ray release to back to a DVD-only release is just confirming everything I have said about Blu-ray not taking off.
    I can afford that.
Too many in the true mass-market cannot and are simply being lied to (by the likes of you) that Blu-ray will just slot in as ‘the next DVD’.
Pity you’re too stupid or so dishonest to understand or admit this.

    Which is it?

If I decide to buy into the new 3D I would have to get another different Blu-ray player.
    So what?
It’ll be a minor expense compared to the new HD TV you and everyone else would have to buy.

(and it’ll still not be a game console, whatever happens)

What you do (or claim to do) with your HD TV is irrelevant.
The point is that every single HD TV – bar a tiny handful – sold to date will need replacing to work with the new 3D.

Even those that currently claim to operate at 120/240Hz aren’t capable of using it because they effectively ‘cheat’ and merely double or quadruple a 60Hz signal.

Not that the likes of you would know or be prepared to admit that.

  97. Roca.:

I didnt ask you how much you paid for them. so go somewhere else with that nonsense

I also didnt ask for your extra pc hardware. the point was that you have spent extra money out of your pocket for stuff that are already included on the PS3

3D HDTV??? no a problem for me. just like it wasnt a problem for you spend “extra” money on stuff that comes on the PS3 at no extra cost. but hey MS is loving the type of consumer of your kind

I will not need to buy a new BD player next year…thats for sure. a TV?? Im always looking to upgrade my TV as long as there is a better one on the market. money is not an issue for me. you shouldnt worry so much since you are not paying for my stuff.

didn’t you said BD was a niche and was going to die in a short matter of time….months later you magically have a BD player and fully enjoying it

  98. Happyhockum:

Yeah but your point is (always) to try and make out that anything Xbox or Microsoft is expensive…..which is just hilarious given the subject matter.
Just how much was that launch PS3 again?

You don’t like it when you’re repeatedly shown to be full of sh!te, do you?

Similarly you whinge, gurn and cry about Xbox hard drives but when it’s pointed out that your complaints are stupid & utterly meaningless you don’t like that either.

Once again you seem desperate to imply I’ve spent a stack of cash on my Xbox.
    On what exactly?

I just sold my 120gb Xbox Elite for more than I paid for it when it was new.

You’re also full of cr@p about my Blu-ray player.

I bought my Blu-ray player long before I ever mentioned it here so once again you’re just back to inventing your own (rather stupid) narrative.

    ‘Your stuff’
(or more accurately, I suspect, ‘your claimed stuff’)
is never the point in any of this.
My point in any debate about this stuff has been as regards the take-off, or otherise, in the mass-market.

You prefer to give totally partial & selected info, to cheerlead and wail your dumb company PR’ing BS and make stupid attempts to shout down anyone posing the perfectly reasonable counter-point.

You just hate your little campaign getting the shine knocked off.
    Too bad, you tedious idiot.

You never once mentioned in any of that positive spinning BS of yours that this new 3D required a brand new HD TV.

You’re just a shilling saddo ar$ehole, plain and simple.

  99. Roca.:

haha you full of it dude.

I finish reading some other time.. Im allergic to the bullshit.

    cheers

  100. Happyhockum:

Yeah, you’re caught cold and you’re reduced to laughing it off.

    Go on then, run away.

You went dribbling on and on and on about PS3 & 3D and left out the most important part
    (the new HDTV).

Was it cos you didn’t know and were spouting off in ignorance
    or
was it you were deliberately trying to mislead people & hide the facts?

Either way you look like a complete tool.

  101. Roca.:

I can deal with less BS. so I will answer this one for you!

“You went dribbling on and on and on about PS3 & 3D and left out the most important part”

are you still whinning about it? most 360 had to buy a new 360 in order to get one with a HDMI output? dont you have to buy the Natal add-on in order to play Natal games.

a new tv is just the same.. I dont see the proble. but then again anything coming from a guy who was shit-talking Bluray but then got a stand alone because he resist and didnt wanted to feel left behind.

run along HH, you just made my day. I’ll be out in 30 mins btw. so you can keep bs-ing for another half hour to make my day go even faster

  102. Roca.:

btw…how’s that DEAD HD-DVD add on?

  103. Happyhockum:

Er, I didn’t have to buy anything new to get HDMI on my Xbox.
    Nor did most Xbox owners.
You’ve got to back to a pre-May 2007 Xbox to score on that one.
    Like I care.
I have a nice new Jasper.

Should I start about your ludicrously over-priced 1st edition low spec 20gb (stripped down) PS3?

It’s perfectly obvious that you wouldn’t see a problem in not mentioning the need for a new TV.

You’re all about shilling the product, the last thing you want is to be honest & tell people openly that getting it involves another big-ticket purchase, not just having a PS3.

    Blu-ray plainly has it’s flaws.
I have no problem in seeing those flaws & accepting them.

You, on the otherhand, are all about shilling the product, the last thing you want is to admit to people that Blu-ray is not set to just slide in as ‘the next DVD’.

    My HD DVD player?
Well lets put it like this.
Because of HD DVD I have quite a few movies in superb high definition which are not yet out on Blu-ray.

My 150+ disc HD DVD collection cost me peanuts and did not disappear in a puff of smoke when the format war ended.

The add-on is just great btw, it sits in its wrapper waiting the day when or if I ever need it.

Besides your feeble & usual idiotic & laughably pathetic diversionary whining you have nothing to say in this.

Either you were ignorant about the whole 3D story (that it meant customers that want it having to buy a brand new HD TV) or you preferrred not to mention it.

    Which was it?

Either way you still end up looking like the saddo shilling tool you so obviously are.

  104. Happyhockum:

Oh, and wtf are you so bothered about HDMI anyways?

You’re the moron who told me that HDMI was great cos it allowed you to use an optical audio link.

Clearly you haven’t the first idea what HDMI is actually all about.

    Idiot.

  105. Roca.:

“You’re the moron who told me that HDMI was great cos it allowed you to use an optical audio link.”

keep lying out of your ass…nobody is going to believe you that one

  106. Roca.:

now if you can go back and start writing you usual BS posts so my day can go faster

*note* I leave early today and im off tomorrow :D

  107. Roca.:

    oh forgot this one

“Should I start about your ludicrously over-priced 1st edition low spec 20gb (stripped down) PS3?”

over price? it was $100 more than a 360 at that time. the 360s were dying left and right like there was no tomorrow. the PS3 20GB was also a BD player ( BD player were around $1000 at that time) and it was fully backwards compatible. PSN was free (like always) and the avility to upgrade the HHD with a bigger hassle free withou voiding the warranty or being afraid of getting “banned”

  108. Happyhockum:

Way to entirely miss the point, as usual, muppet.

  109. Happyhockum:

    Roca

“keep lying out of your ass…nobody is going to believe you that one”

    OK, fine.

That one can join the ranks of the Ivan SSD quote.

I’ll post up the link & the quote from time to time to remind you of your own idiotic fu*kwittery and so that everyone can see who is the liar that is such a moron with no understanding of the subject.

    You asked for it.

    Right?

  110. Roca.:

“Way to entirely miss the point, as usual, muppet”

hahaha can’t deny that the 20GB PS3s were a better deal than one of those $400 red ringer (360)

  111. Happyhockum:

    So easy to find –

    Roca.
    July 23rd, 2009

“do you know what you can do with the optical cable? or do you know what its for?
HDMI is going from ur console to ur tv right?
well you have xtra speakers or separate surround sound HDMI is not going to do the trick.”

    h**p://gamer.blorge.com/2009/07/19/microsoft-clueless-about-ps3-parental-control-xbox-360/

    “Roca.:
    August 10th, 2009

I never said HDMI was only for TV. I was just saying without optical disc you cannot used the same HDMI cable to split between your TV and your surround sound. but since you have a HDMI spliter/reciever u can do that (thats is what ur trying to prove..you can split the HDMI with a spliter lol). but obviosly that all that cost you more money (as always the xbox360 making ppl spend more).

and Optical cable is as good as there is for Audio output.”

    h**p://gamer.blorge.com/2009/08/08/modern-warfare-2-dlc-and-price-hike-fubar/

Like I said, you’re the moron who has no clue what HDMI is for and you have laughably stupid ideas about audio quality.

Nobody needs to ‘believe’ anything here, they have the quotes and the links and can see for themselves.

  112. Happyhockum:

Just your usual attempt to try and divert when caught cold, again.

    Moron.

  113. Roca.:

““You’re the moron who told me that HDMI was great cos it allowed you to use an optical audio link.””

I cant spot where I said that ^?

  114. Happyhockum:

Yeah well no surprises that you’re intent on pretending you can’t see your own ignorance & idiocy, I’d be mightily embarrassed too if I’d said any of that.

    First quote.

No mention about what HDMI is really about or for, just some childishly ill-informed idiocy about TV linking & optical cable.

    Busted.

  115. Happyhockum:

……and seeing as it’s there in the same quote let’s not forget the classic ignorant garbage you said –

“Optical cable is as good as there is for Audio output”

  116. Roca.:

    busted?

you proved you still need a HDMI splitter, so idk what are you trying to prove.

my comment was about the convinience on having a HDMI port and a optical audio port on the same console.

but of course, since the 360 did not have HDMI at first you are here trolling about it (but yet you will need a splitter) so you only proved my point on “convinience”

go find another amusing quote please

  117. Happyhockum:

Willfully blind, I guess you must have realised & been embarrassed.

    Look at both quotes.

Taken together they prove exactly what I have said.

You reckon optical audio is the best and that an HDMI cable allows a TV connection and you to make that ‘as good as there is for Audio output’ optical connection to a receiver.

Plainly you haven’t the 1st idea what HDMI is all about.
Cos if you had there’s b*gger-all sign of it in anything you wrote.

    You tedious ignorant t!t.

  118. Happyhockum:

Still pretending that an HD receiver is just a ‘splitter’ I see.

    Moron.

  119. Happyhockum:

    LOL

Maybe with those cr@ppy cheapo bottom-feeding Sony ones
(woooo, you get DTS HD MA light up on the display, shame it can’t properly handle the full range of lossless frequencies)
that is all they can manage.

  120. Roca.:

you can twisted it all you want. I was talking about the convinience on having two different ports (for audio and video) without the need of a reciever/spliter/add-on/peripheral or what the hell was needed.

funny how you were so embarrassed as to make a 3 post replay. I must have hurt your feelings once again.

go look up the quote where you stated BD was a failed format, a niche format, a soon-to-die format and tha upscaled DVDs look just as good. LMAOO

you must have been drunk to say all that crap. but you can always twiste everything your way.

  121. Happyhockum:

Obviously you have to play stupid on this one.

Everyone else (not playing your idiot game) can see it though.

Here it is spelt out for you.

“HDMI is going from ur console to ur tv right?”

    Er, no.
That’s a fraction of what HDMI is about and what it does.

“well you have xtra speakers or separate surround sound HDMI is not going to do the trick.”

See, right there, you show you haven’t a clue what HDMI is for.
HDMI is all about working with an HD Receiver and carrying multi-channel lossless audio in addition to an HD video signal.

You then go on to try & wriggle out of your idiocy and say –

“I was just saying without optical disc you cannot used the same HDMI cable to split between your TV and your surround sound”

Which is complete rubbish, a proper HD Receiver does not act as a ‘splitter’.
It can not only upscale an SD video signal (if it has a decent chipset to do so) but it can (assuming it isn’t a cheapo pass-through one) decode HD audio.

All you’ve succeeded in doing here is demonstrate once again your own infantile mentality.
Rather than simply hold your hands up and admit you were pontificating (again) on something you knew nothing about you kept on whirling away in ever decreasing circles.

Most laughably of all, when presented with your own stupid words, you’re left hurling a sad feeble jibe (to try & switch the subject, as usual) and pretending in your own trademark unintellible way that I’ve somehow “twiste” everything.

You are a sorry joke, moron, a small petty idiot fanboy.

  122. Happyhockum:

Just so as you know –

    HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)

  123. Roca.:

wow..now your are actually trying to tell me what I meant/said

    are you drunk today too.

    side note:
write smaller posts because Im at work I dont have the that much time to wasted on some huge trolling-twisted post.

thats for braking down what HDMI stands for, I have know this since I got my PS3 in 2006, you on the other had to wait for MS to come up with a another consile that actually support High-Definition Multimedia Interface :D

now go on and look up the quote where you stated BD was a failed format, a niche format, a soon-to-die format and tha upscaled DVDs look just as good.

it will definitely make my day go faster

  124. Happyhockum:

Carry on, act the f*ckwit moron incapable of understanding your own written words.

I’m just enjoying waving it in your dumb face.

    Moron.

    Better luck switching subject elsewhere.

Just like that cretin Ivan you asked for it & I’ll remind you of your idiotic quote and be able to give the link from time to time.

  125. Roca.:

..tooo late im already out of work

    (writing for a cell)

good luck though you might make someone’s day go faster
