Amazon bestsellers list shows the noughties belong to the Nintendo Wii
We’re not big fans of the Wii here at Blorge. It has its place, of course, but that place isn’t underneath the TVs of serious gamers. However, whatever anyone may think of the Nintendo console, it’s been a storming success. And Amazon’s list of bestselling video games this decade shows just how much a success the little white box has been.
Amazon’s Bestselling Video Games Of The Decade:
1. Nintendo Wii Console
2. Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training (Nintendo DS)
3. Mario Kart with Wii Wheel (Wii)
4. Nintendo Wii Nunchuk Controller add-on (Wii)
5. Wii Play with Wii Remote Controller (Wii)
6. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2)
7. Wii Fit (Wii)
8. Nintendo Wii Controller (Wii)
9. Official Wii Wheel (Wii)
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)
It should be noted that this is the bestselling video games on Amazon.co.uk, the British arm of the shopping giant. And the results for Amazon.com could be slightly different, with a few Xbox 360 games in the mix. However, this is a list which will make pleasant reading at Nintendo, with eight of the 10 games being on the Wii. Just one is a DS title, and one is a PS2 title. The PS3 and Xbox 360 don’t even figure.
While this doesn’t make me warm to the Wii, it does show the impact it has had on the gaming landscape. Video games have no doubt become more popular as a result of the Wii, with the casual gamers using the Nintendo console as a gateway drug of sorts. Which will help the industry as a whole in years to come.

Amazon UK’s current list shows a Wii games lock-out on places 1 – 4.
Xbox 360 games holds places 5, 6 & 7.
PS3 has games at 8 & 10.
The consoles themselves are interesting too.
The Wii console with Wii sports is at 9th place in the total rankings.
The 120gb Xbox Elite is at 22.
The Xbox Aracade is at 43 – this is down on where it was but this is likely to be because there are lots of good deals on that at other stores
(HMV for instance just cut the price by 1/3rd to £109.99 – $177 US/$199 AUS).
The PS3 slim is at 53.
There’s the story of this gen right there really.

It is because most of them think that the whole market consist of either just the UK(like HH) or the US when they look at the NPD numbers.

PBots unite! Calm down, neither console is “superior” and sales for both are great, and the future for both look fine. Good lord, you’d think somebody had just committed blasphemy here. 360 just managed to gain a lot of PS3′s potential market share early on and it is still paying off in software sales for almost all major titles, so it may take more than a few years for PS3 to catch up in sales, if it ever does this gen. Still looking forward to PS4 (hopefully it’s not $600-$800) though, it should be a good turnout next gen.

Considering the Wii launched at the same time as PS3 and obliterated both in sales kind of eliminate the whole “year before” argument… strange though, I thought the PS3 would have had much more impressive graphics out the gate on almost all titles considering it’s higher price point and that it was released and entire year after 360… that’s a long time in tech.

now the PS3 vs 360 is a different story. they 360 launched a year before and instead of increasing the lead it gained during that year, they instead managed to let the PS3 cut the lead and since then they both have gone head to head in sales. The PS3 is bulding momentum now with a killer lineup of AAA titles, MMOs coming up, new services and feature will be introduced next year and 3D gaming is also on the way. the 360 got Natal and few AAA games that will also be available on PC

Nintendo is doing fantastically, however I´m still waiting for some IP to come back like F-Zero, StarFox, Donkey Kong and (possibly?) Kid Icarus. Also the “Friend Codes” are still a pain in the rear. MS and Sony are looking stronger for 2010. Hopefully this will put pressure on Nintendo to try harder.

I own a Nintendo Wii. I’ve never played that Nintendo Wii for a good 4 months. In fact, the only games on that Nintendo Wii that I really enjoyed playing were:
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
2 games. Hence why the Nintendo Wii is a large pile of doodoo, no matter how much it sells.
Being serious now, there is a VERY SMALL percentage of gamers for which the Wii is truly the best console for them. Young children, Wii Fitiacs, and a tiny group of hardcore games who see innovation and fun. Something different and unique. One of the only people I know from that group is Shokio, from Youtube. Since you say you don’t own or use a wii let me address your list of “weakness”:
1. True: it does use HCSD cards though which are inexpensive and continue to increase in capacity. Since wii games have virtually no load times or overheating conserns I have no need to copy my disk games to the system so although a HD would be nice I’m not really missing it.
2. Since the wii is not HD it really has no need for HD disks.
3. No trophies = who cares.
4. Awful graphics from the 90′s = ps2. I’m guessing since you don’t actually use a wii you have no reference but for a standard def. system the graphics are not only good but pretty impressive when developers actually put time into it.

6. True, oh so true.
7. The controller is excellent. I think the first time you play one of your FPS with sony’s new controllers you’ll piss yourself.

This feature, originally known as achievements, then copied by Sony, is something that needs to be experienced in order to appreciate GT. I also own a Wii but find myself playing it’s games less just because of the lack of this one simple feature. Sony at last heard it’s fans heartfelt, loud, and multiple pleas for two whole years before they finally decided to implement this feature that has been in the 360 for years since it’s launch, and just made it standard this year for PS3 games… perhaps Nintendo will do the same for Wii… or at least it’s next iteration.
