Playstation Home hits 10 million users

December 20, 2009

Playstation Home hits 10 million usersPlaystation Home is one of those features that differentiates the PS3 from the Xbox 360. Some people love it, some people hate it. But 10 million people have now registered to use it. Not bad going for something that many people thought would die a quick death.

I was a big advocate of Home in its early days. My use of the virtual environment has been on and off to say the least. When it’s a choice between Home and playing game, Home rarely wins out. However, Sony has now announced 10 million registered users for Home, so it can hardly be described as a failure.

Dan Hill, European Home business manager at SCEE, said in a statement:

PlayStation Home is fast becoming the meeting place of choice between users and developers. Every new game space enhances the overall experience for consumers, offering more variety, more choice and more enjoyment from a PlayStation Home session. The more game spaces there are, the better it gets, and the number of spaces keeps on growing.

It seems that every time I log in to Home a new space has been added. Which is cool except it takes a while to download each space and it’s hard to know where the action (what little exists) is.

I go to HOME from time to time but like Dave said:
“When it’s a choice between Home and playing game, Home rarely wins out”

  2. stopstopp:

Hmmmm, I have only heard of HOME once before this. Is it any good?

  3. Ivan_PSP:

No one had ever thought HOME would die only ignorant people mainly Xbots. I started using HOME again is awesome a must have for all PS3 lucky owners.

  4. stopstopp:

Wow, 10 million users. I’m so happy I didn’t choose the 360. Microsoft just can’t keep up with Sony.

  5. Ivan_PSP:

No one can’t keep up with Sony they are just too awesome at their jobs. And yes who ever owns a PlayStation is lucky to have the greatest must have gaming beasts ever made.

Yes, every person who registered after they first unboxed their PS3 and then didn’t use it since (like me) is “registered”. 9 million inactive accounts at least… “No one can’t keep up with Sony they are just too awesome at their jobs”… “!”… lol.

  7. CAD:

10 million registered yes but there have been a few reports that say the majority don’t stick around. It like getting hits on your site but that does not mean it’s successful.

  8. harry sachz:

i’m pretty awesome at my job too.

If I wind up getting one for christmas I will probably take a look. I haven’t been back in Home since the ‘unpleasantness’

  9. Saber_HAHAha:

I didn’t do too much in Home, to be honest. Besides dressing up as a paki and shuffle-dancing in front of random girls, all I did was a bit of bowling and a bit of arcade games. Never got into it, and never checked it in months,

  10. SW:

10 million users and it still sucks a big ‘ol bag o’ dicks.

  11. CarlB:

Come on SW, we should count ourselves blessed and “lucky to have the greatest must have gaming beast” that Home is… lol… at least Ivan does.

  12. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

home is gay i want an adult site with virtual strippers lol i got some naked pics of chicks off it though just out of boredem! so i cant say its a complete waste lol

  13. Ivan_PSP:

I love PlayStation Home mostly because of the cool awesome Home Spaces and the mini games and special events.

  14. Spideydog:

I’m one of those 10mil. But I am definitely one that doesn’t visit …..

I wonder what the actual “user” figure would be ??

  15. Ivan_PSP:

I visit every day is too addicting now.

  16. phranctoast:

Home is for some people I’m sure but I’m not one of them. Social networking to me is just lame. Still facebook free and plan on staying so.

  17. Roca.:

every time I log into home it is always full of people…CarlB acts like if it is a ghost town in there

  18. Barnabe Jones:

The last time I logged in, I checked out the EA sports complex. Poker looked like a cool way to kill some time, but I couldn’t get on a table.

  19. phranctoast:

I want a virtual E3 like convention that goes live along side the show. They mentioned something like that years ago. I’d love to see it come to fruition.

  20. Barnabe Jones:

They had clips from E3 this year in Home. It wasn’t quite like a live convention, but it was a good start. Hopefully they do something bigger with it in 2010.

  21. Roca.:

they also had a live video streaming but I missed it because I was at work while they were streaming it

  22. Roca.:

“Zipper will launch the MAG’s fifth and final beta on January 4th. Unlike previous beta phases, this one will be open to all comers – no special key will be necessary. You’ll be able to download the necessary files beginning on December 22nd so you’re locked and load when it goes live. Beta 5 allows you to test out the game’s 64-player Sabotage and 256-player Domination modes and will run until January 10th”

  23. CarlB:

“every time I log into home it is always full of people…CarlB acts like if it is a ghost town in there”

No every (couple of times) I logged in there it was “full of people” too (somewhere under 1 million people is still a lot of people, even if it is just 100-200,000 I’m sure), just nothing that really appealed to me as a gamer to actually spend my time doing… from the looks of things here I’m not the only one that feels this way. Sorry.

  24. Roca.:

there are also people who love it and would not mind going there on a regular basis.

my point is..Home is always full of people which means it is far from being a failure

  25. CarlB:

I’m glad you enjoy it so much roca, it’s just not all that appealing to me (and a few others here). Have fun with it though, and be sure to continue keeping us posted on all the great things going on there. Cheers.

  26. Roca.:

    wtf are you talking about?

  27. CarlB:

“there are also people who love it”

I thought you might be one of those people… sorry if I’m mistaken.

  28. Roca.:

    you thought wrong!

  29. CarlB:

So… you don’t like it and you don’t go there on a regular basis… do you know anybody who “loves” it and does go there regularly?

  30. Roca.:

i dont love it but I also dont hate it. I do see ppl on my friend list that are always in Home. I guess they rather play bowling, pool, pocker, arcade games at Home than paying for a full retail game

go there from time to time to check out whats new as Home is always evolving with new content, features, and Gaming spaces

  31. stopstopp:

Home sounds kinda cool. Maybe I’ll try it someday…

  32. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

home makes money off the mall so therefore its a success. it didn’t flop like everyone thought it would and plus sony is getting publishers to put their stuff on it.

  33. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

we should all have a poker night or something lol

  34. Ivan_PSP:

Yeah that’s why Sony loves HOME is making them huge profits my uncle has spent so much money on it for his kid. I bet he owns everything on HOME which means i do too.

HOME is awesome i bet if Sony allows Microsoft to have it for Xbox 360. Those Xbox 360 owners that hated now would be saying we love saying it so much better then our useless ugly avatars. Was the deal with Avatars on Xbox 360 my avatar is all green like Xbox 360 and just stands there looking like a fucking idiot is there anything you can use that crap for simple answer FUCK NO.

  35. harry sachz:

Can it, Ivan. You’re giving me a headache.

  36. Ivan_PSP:

I don’t give a shit denial jealous Xbot.

  37. CarlB:

We don’t give a shit jealous PBot in denial… lol.

  38. harry sachz:

I am jealous and in denial that you are giving me a headache?

  39. CarlB:

Eventually you will be jealous of something in your lifetime Harry… in the meantime your denial of PBot PR is apparently leaving Ivan constipated.

Cure for your headache: Imagine what Ivan had to go through in years of suffering at the Sony PR camp Clockwork Orange style to turn out the way he is today.

  40. CON:

    Oh my God!

    IVANROCA

    WTF?

Just finished reading all the comments you guys posted. Who are you guys trying to convince? lol

  41. Ivan_PSP:

Jealous denial Xbots loving it PS3 is killing you guys do the same as other Xbots at least rent a PS3.

  42. CarlB:

That’s not a bad idea Ivan, rent a PS3 for a month or two and you’ll be able to play every single PS3 exclusive worth playing. Everything else is already on 360 or exclusive to it. So… YEAH “jealous denial Xbots loving it PS3 is killing you guys…” hahahaha… I can’t keep typing I’m laughing so hard.

  43. harry sachz:

jealous denial happy lucky family wish xbots UNCHARTED 2: AMONG THIEVES Afrika

  44. Ivan_PSP:

LMFAO Xbots owner are dying inside of jealously denial and bitterness loving it. Enjoy your 3 exclusives the rest are PC and multplaform bound.

    hahhaha

  45. CarlB:

Wasn’t Afrika an 80′s band? LOLOLRFLOL… EyePet monkey.

  46. CarlB:

band hit that is… LOL… Toto.

  47. Ivan_PSP:

I want EyePet. My sister is also buying that to take to NYU. I want this looks really cool.

  48. harry sachz:

Yep, it was Toto. It would be tits if that song was on the soundtrack to the game. You’d be driving around the African plains taking photos of monkeys doing it while listening to Toto.

  49. phranctoast:

just watch for thrown poop. I hear the game is that realistic ;)

  50. CarlB:

And then one of the monkeys could jump out of the game and be your EyePet… until you said you were tired of Africa… at which point it would go on a killing rampage ala Monkey Shines because you were unaware it was actually a telepathic receptacle for your anger in your state and your desire for revenge against all those nasty “XBots” and their stupid exclusives that ruined your PS3 dream world.

  51. phranctoast:

That’s exactly what the new Ratchet and Clank gun does…. wow.

    monkey poop stains carpets btw.

  52. CarlB:

    oh… that’s so “derivative”… what a shame ;)

  53. Ivan_PSP:

    LAME

  54. CarlB:

Congrats Ivan, that’s one more word… but you don’t want to strain yourself… take it easy now.

  55. phranctoast:

    “oh… that’s so “derivative”… what a shame”

Yet innovative all the same…. ;)

“In October 2009, just over 16 million accounts were registered, although there are no reliable figures for actual long term consistent usage (as with Home)”

As of today, there are over 17.5 million registered accounts… almost twice as many as Home.

  71. Roca.:

go spend your precious gamefly time on sencond life then….I didnt it is avilable on gamefly?

  72. stopstopp:

I don’t think a gap of 2.5 million accounts is really almost tiwice as much

  73. CarlB:

Wow roca, why so much hate for GameFly all of a sudden?

  74. Roca.:

Why so much hate on home or anything Sony ?

  75. CarlB:

I have no hate for Home or anything Sony… sorry.

  76. SW:

“Second Life servers were all taken out for good dumb ass.”

Well Carl, Ivan said so, therefore it MUST be true!
The website is a fabrication to give the impression that second life is still running!

    Bwhahahaahhaha.
