Capcom splitting development to overseas and in Japan
Capcom, the major Japanese publisher/developer, has had a rocky experience off-shoring development to outside studios. It seems like the company has finally made up its mind as to what it will off-shore and what will be developed in Japan.
According to Joystiq, Capcom revealed that all new IPs will be developed in its Japan-based internal studios and offshore existing franchises to other countries such as the U.S. Bionic Commando, which received lackluster reviews and poor sales, was used as a prime example of the obstacles of off-shoring development of a new IP.
Konami is another company facing similar issues. Silent Hill: Homecoming received mixed reviews with development handled by an overseas studio. This is a situation where I strongly felt that the original Team Silent studio should have been working on this franchise instead of off-shoring development to some studio outside of Japan. There is a creepiness Team Silent gives to each of their games that other developers seem to be unable to replicate.

I have no idea of the accuracy in the EU where VG chartz is concerned but the accuracy in North America and Japan can’t be argued. They rely on NPD and mediacreate numbers. I count all their numbers for NA as a predictions until the actual numbers come out and then they update it.
2010 predictions:
Ok I’ll start
-Eyepet will be critically acclaimed but advertised poorly by Sony.
-God of War 3 will be a graphics benchmark.
-GT5 will come out in June and be the PS3′s top selling game with 9million copies sold worldwide for lifetime.
-Heavy Rain will be critically acclaimed but not bought by the masses.
-Both Natal and the Wand won’t live up to expectations for the simple fact that they’re peripherals. Future iterations will be packaged with the product to begin with. Poor support for games, but the good idea will help for the future.
-Alan Wake will be a highly reviewed game but not widely bought game. No PC port happens.
-Twisted Metal PS3 announced at E3 with Oct 2010 release.
-Resistance 3 in development. released Nov 2010
-Killzone 3 in development. said to release early 2011.
-The Getaway 3 back in development.
-Halo reach while not being the most graphcially superior game of the year will be the fastest selling 360 game ever.
-Happy will lose a bet and donate to a charity of my choice

A job posting on Microsoft’s site for a Principal Program Manager specifically asks the successful applicant to “drive the platform and bring Xbox LIVE enabled games to Windows Mobile”. That’s the part we knew.
Some new stuff, however, comes in how they’ll be doing this, saying “This person will focus specifically on what makes gaming experiences “LIVE Enabled” through aspects such as avatar integration, social interactions, and multi-screen experiences”.
So…your avatar can hang out on your 360 and your phone. That was a given. The “multi-screen” part is interesting, though. Remember how the GameCube and GBA could link up and share game info? Like, how in Wind Waker you could get little maps and bonus info on the Game Boy Advance’s screen? This might be like that. Only, people might actually use it.”

-3D introduced but still remains a niche product due to lack of widespread penetration of capable HDTV’s. Many 1st and 2nd party Sony developers add patches to their games to enable the feature and most third party games are made with it in mind. Scene as a good look at what a future product will be like when the TV’s are more widespread.

No not my predictions but an article about Xbox Live Games coming to Windows Mobile Phones. I can’t wait. I think this is a good approach as Microsoft does not need a Hand Held gaming device to play XBL Games. There are plenty of Windows Mobile Phones out in the wild and personally I think they should bring the games to the Iphone. Lets also not forget the Zune HD. I’m sure that will be a Gaming device as well.

Yes, next year will be another interesting gaming year. It will be interesting to see if Ps3 will keep its momentum going with the recent price drop. I expect Microsoft to have a price drop sometime next year which will put pressure on Sony to respond again. It will come down to how effective each system’s exclusives titles will be. The Ps3 appears to have a blockbuster list of exclusive titles coming out. However, up until this point, this has not yet elevated Sony’s sales above Xbox360′s overall sales. It will be interesting to see what system appeals more to people who have yet to make the current generation switch. For the first time ever, people are jumping alliances. You can’t assume any more that a Ps2 owner will automatically purchase a Ps3 or that a Xbox owner will purchase a Xbox360. It is truly a console war. I think next year’s results will be extremely important for both companies, especially Sony.

and tell how is Sony charging for PSN when they already stated PSN is free and it will remain free. you will have the “option” to pay for premiun features which is nothing new becasue Qore has been on the PSN for quite a while and it cost $2.99 [Each] or 24.99 [per year], but then again its optional and I haven’t paid a single cent for it but I was still able to play online on the PS3 since day one.

The eye can be found for $20 sometimes (thats what I bought mine for..kind of impulse). How much could the wand actually cost? $50 maybe…..? $70 doesn’t seem all that bad when early estimates had Natal between $80-$100.

My 2010 predictions, with a 3% margin of error:
General:
-Another Call of Duty game with a holiday release
-At least 3 Guitar Hero and Rock Band games a piece
-5 LEGO games based on movies
Wii:
-Nintendo will port a SNES or DS game to the Wii
-Some crappy game with the word “Wii” in the title will be the top selling GOTY
-All of 2010′s GOTY nominees will not be Wii titles
Sony:
-GOW3 breaks the record for fastest selling Sony exclusive.
-Resistance 3, KillZone 3, Infamous 2 – all announced for 2011.
-FF XIV will not be free to play.
-Wand is released, but not very useful.
360:
-Halo: Reach will sell well.
-Another Halo or 2 announced for 2011.
-Alan Wake will be average.
-Natal is released and is only used for mini/casual type games. Regardless, some people will think it’s amazing.

-Dark Void looks like it has potential, but I thought the same thing about Bionic Commando. Have to wait and see. At any rate, It’s not on my list.
-Lost Planet 2, the demo was just ok. It wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. I think I would have fun with it, but it’s not on the list either.
-Dead Rising 2 – meh. Not really interested.
-RE5 DLC I’m interested in, but only if it’s priced well.

When PS3 games start showing up in the Monthly Top 10 then you can consider PS3 games to be selling well but until then you want to pick 3 game out of the hundreds of titles on the 360. LOL Better luck next time. Also where is your Proof because Crackdown sold many copies due to Halo 3 Beta being on the disk.

As for the PS3 wand you will need 1 or 2 of them for each person depending on the game. So technically you may need upto 8 Controllers. To bad the PS3 only has 7 Connections.

Phranc was compering “worldwide numbers” which speaks more about sales than the “NPD’s monthly numbers”. and the 360 vs PS3 sales number on “NPD” doesnt even reflect if PS3 games sells or not as there are almost “twice” as many 360 and there are PS3 in America.
FF13 just sold 1.5 million units in one week, almost 50% of the total PS3 install base got the game during the firt week. Batman also sold more on the PS3.
but like I said, what do you get out of sales as a gamer?

We’ll see what happens next year with Sony’s line up. One game will not sell a system. It’s the over all library of games that the system has that sales consoles. Sony has been coming up short. I’m not disputing this. Microsoft has had strong game sales. I am now even contributing to Xbox360′s game sales as well. Ha! Ha! Seriously, Sony has some decent games coming. Let’s see what happens.

The only 2 countries I care about in sales are Australia and the US. Australia for obvious reasons, and the US because it’s the largest video gaming country and therefore dictates most trends. Anyone here knows teh real reason Shinji Mikami & his disciple Hideki Kamiya left CAPCOM and wouldn’t have it publish any of Platinum Games’ creations?
I feel they left a big whole or something upon their deprture. CAPCOM just isn’t CAPCOM any more for me nowadays the quality of games aren’t that solid anymore.
