Is this Half-Life 2 on Xbox 360 Natal?
Probably not. But if it is, it’s pretty damn exciting.
Project Natal is likely to be released in the next 12 months. And with that in mind, the system is probably already being tested, with multiple different styles and genres of game. However, very little footage has been released showing how Natal works, even though there must be dozens of people now working with it on a daily basis.
Gossip Gamers is claiming the following video to be leaked footage of someone playing Half-Life 2 using Natal on the Xbox 360.
I don’t buy it. There is, of course, a chance this video has been leaked but where from? And why? It makes no sense.
Assuming, however, that it is real Natal footage just for a few minutes, then I am impressed with how the system is coming along. Movement looks simple and fluid, and I already want to buy and use Natal. Certainly more than the PS3 Wand.

He is using both hands to move, so how is he going to move and shoot at the same time? (Yes, I know it is beta if it isn’t fake to begin with.)
It isn’t impressing me much to be honest, since it seems to be a bit too complicated to do very simple things. If it was a bit more clear on how things are done…

“how is he going to move and shoot at the same time?”
If it is accurate enough, that could be as simple as extending your forefinger while moving, or if customizable, your middle finger… lol.
“If it was a bit more clear on how things are done…”
I’m sure it will clear up more (and we’ll see whether this is “fake” or not) as we move closer to Natal’s launch late next year.
“Project Natal will be available worldwide November 2010, launch with 14 games, and sell for less than £50, or about 80 US dollars, according to games biz site MCV. Expect 5 million units for global ship at release, with at least two purchase configurations: As a solo upgrade, or bundled with the Xbox 360 console itself.”

Yeah I see what you mean. It seems as though the view follows your head and it was pretty on point. On my second look is when I noticed it, especially since I blew it up to screen size.

I will buy NATAL to see if i like it hopefully is nothing like i imagine now. But i have no clue how that hell is going to feel playing with imaginary weapons cars etc. Microsoft better think really good. And i know this shit is going to break my bank is going to cost a lot since is from them, i hope is worth it. Because i don’t like reselling my gaming things.

At least it seems to have somewhat better tech than what we have seen so far with the Eye…
“we became frustrated by the problems that have occurred as a result of the clumsy motion-sensing functionality of the PlayStation Eye. The only time prior to EyePet that we’ve spent any quality time using our PlayStation Eye camera has been to upload videos of ourselves murdering popular songs on SingStar… when it fails to recognize your gestures it’s excruciatingly frustrating… Your EyePet does some amazing things, but the tech is so inconsistent that you’ll want to slap him just as much as stroke him”
Roca mentioned something about “GT5, RE5 Gold, Under Siege and LBP will be the latest on the Eye”
…has anybody seen any videos of those yet?

Almost every PSN buddy i have has the PlayStation Eye one of them was showing me all his guns and stack of money.

Bitter much… The Xbox Live Vision is a rip off that has awful everything.

Hmmm, we will have to see how it controls ?? If you have to do certain finger combinations, sorry not interested.
But we will see

Too much Natal this week…
The quality of this video sucked.. Was too hard to tell much of anything IMO. Which is the problem here.
The last vid we got was of Geometry wars and it was ppretty clear, but was not the best game to display the capabilities of Natal… Now here we get a much better game, but the video quality is crappy at best. If MS really wanted to get people excited for Natal they should get it running a tech Demo for a new Halo game. That would really get some people excited.

It’ll be interesting to see how expectations are managed up to the launch.
Obviously they will want to surprise & create impact when it actually launches but it looks like there’s a rolling program of tasters and glimpses going on.
The full thing (especially the full thing once devs have some experience with it) is bound to open up entirely new ares for gaming.
Also the impact in the Windows PC world is going to be very interesting (think ‘Minority Report’).
This can only grow and develop.

Can’t see the video from work.
Any lag issues?
The only reason I think the lag issue could be an ongoing issue is the quote was from a developer.
Why would MS give prototype hardware that doesn’t represent how it will really be to developers to create their games?
December 30th, 2009
@phrantoast
Doesn’t really look like so much of a lag issue… The overall quality of the video isn’t so good
@happy
I loved the effects with the computers and stuff in Minority Report. I just saw Avatar (in 3D) last week and they had some impressive looking things going on with the computers in that movie too

indeed…movies was long but it was a great movie, specially on 3D

Also saw Avatar this past weekend. Great movie. Would have enjoyed the movie whether or not it was 3D (Unlike Beowulf).

Avatar
I had a choice between normal and 3D… that was no choice to me, so I saw it in 3D. It was long but it was worth it. I barely got any sleep for work that night but I didn’t care. (I work nights. Movie was done @ 6pm, didn’t get home till just after 7. Have to get up to get ready for work @ 11:15)
I would have enjoyed the movie even if i didn’t see it in 3D but the 3D effects just really gave some of the scenes in the movies so much more, like the scene with the trees that look like willows but with purple leaves.
I actually think I would like to see it again… That’s something I rarely do when a movie is in theatres

@Fah
Couldn’t agree more.
I may end up seeing it another time as well.

No one bought the video released from the Philippines of the PS3 Slim, if it actually came from the Philippines in the first place…..just sayin’

Kinda hard to believe it was being worked on/dreamed up by James Cameron for 15 years, but it was
My only problem with the movie.. well more like a minor annoyance was the whole “connectivity” think.. So you can link up to a horse-like creature and some flying things… oh and trees… but my iPod can hook up to my car and my computer… I’m sure you know exactly what I am talking about. I think the whole connectivity thing was over used and just reminded me too much of technology that is not alive, when it was supposed to convey a more organic and alive expression.
Oh and my other problem was that just about every alien animal had 6 legs… wtf?
December 30th, 2009
My problems were the Iraq War innuendos that seemed over the top.
I liked the whole planet is alive concept. Without it the ending would have been impossible.

If that is legit, I’ll eat my left foot.
The thing looks like it works too well for the stage it’s at, if you know what I mean. When things look too good to be true, they usually are.
I’d actually be more interested in natal if it was going to be used in games such as Half Life 2, I get the feeling though that it’s going to be primarily used for arcade/wii sports type games.

I agree. Although even if it was used for FPS’s I don’t know how I’d take to that. Seems tiring.

@Phranco – “I agree.”
Me too.
I don’t buy all this ‘uber UI’ talk either.

“I don’t buy all this ‘uber UI’ talk either.”
I’m not saying this will ever replace the joypad/stick control completely, but even that control scheme had humble beginnings as well, moving from one stick and one button to what we have today decades later. This is just the beginning.

The old Atari 2600 stick I have fond memories of. I also have not so fond memories of breaking lots of them with that ‘Decathlon’ game.
