Looking forward to gaming in 2010
2009 is at an end, as is the decade that came to be called the naughties. It’s been a good 12 months for gamers, although not for the gaming industry. We recently unveiled the GOTY for 2009, but it’s now time to look forward to 2010. And with the games due out in the next 12 months, I certainly am.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the most beloved game of 2009. But there are dozens of brilliant title due out in 2010, all of which could prove to be contenders for Game Of The Year 12 months from now.
We have a new poll now running asking which game you are most looking forward to in 2010. There are 10 to start you off but as always feel free to add your own. For me it has to be Gran Turismo 5, closely followed by Final Fantasy XIII, purely because these are the latest titles in game series I’ve loved for a long time.
Although there’s no chance of a new console being released in 2010 (although any of the big three could be re-released in a similar vein to the PS3 Slim), the end of the year should see Project Natal make its debut, and the PS3 Wand won’t be far behind. Natal in particular has the capacity to change gaming forever.
How do you think 2010 will go? Will it be a classic year for gaming or a disastrous one? Feel free to make predictions in the comments.

My compiled 2010 predictions.
-Eyepet will be critically acclaimed but advertised poorly by Sony.
-God of War 3 will be a graphics benchmark.
-GT5 will come out in June and be the PS3’s top selling game with 9million copies sold worldwide for lifetime.
-Heavy Rain will be critically acclaimed but not bought by the masses.
-Both Natal and the Wand won’t live up to expectations for the simple fact that they’re peripherals. Future iterations will be packaged with the product to begin with. Poor support for games, but the good idea will help for the future.
-Alan Wake will be a highly reviewed game but not widely bought game. No PC port happens.
-Twisted Metal PS3 announced at E3 with Oct 2010 release.
-Resistance 3 in development. released Nov 2010
-Killzone 3 in development. said to release early 2011.
-The Getaway 3 back in development.
-PS3 will outsell the 360 in NA for the whole year for the first time
-FF13 will push 3 million copies out in Japan and raise the amount of ps3 by 1.5 million.
-Bluepoint games get the task of the remake of ICO and SOTC for the PS3. Will be bumped up resolution and AA running at 60fps like the GOW collection. Game will be released just prior to the Last Guardians Holiday release.
-Gears of War 3 announced at E3 for release November 2010.
-The 360 lineup will be a lot better than its 2009 lineup.
-Happy will be misdiagnosed with Parkinsons after colleagues continue to see him shaking his fist at the PC monitor at work due to Rocas posts.
-3D introduced but still remains a niche product due to lack of widespread penetration of capable HDTV’s. Many 1st and 2nd party Sony developers add patches to their games to enable the feature and most third party games are made with it in mind. Seen as a good look at what a future product will be like when the TV’s are more widespread.
-Halo reach while not being the most graphically superior game of the year will be the fastest selling 360 game ever.
-Happy will lose a bet and donate to a charity of my choice

Good morning everyone. Another Ps3 title will probably win game of the year again. Like Phranctoast stated, it will be interesting to see if the Ps3 will over take the Xbox360 in sales in America next year. So far, it hasn’t happened yet. Microsoft will try to make it tougher for Sony when they lower the cost of the Xbox360. However, the sales of Ps3 still have been pretty decent.

Eat Sleep Play hasn’t shown us anything for a long time. Jaffe has said that whatever they are working on is being done off of warhawks engine. He also said they were going to show something the same year it comes out. Maybe I’m wrong on the E3 announcement and it will happen sooner (PAX?) but the impression I got was whatever was announced would be coming out in 10-12 months time.

Your predictions are interesting as always. Grand Turismo will not be a flop. It will sale a lot of copies. I don’t know about Sony’s other titles but I know Grand Turismo and God of War 3 will sale very well. Since both systems have the same multi-platform games, it will depend on how effective Sony’s and Microsoft’s exclusive titles will be next year.

His total number of sales are off by a bit if we’re going to believe the link Roca originally provided.
They have the 360 around 35 million with
the PS3 at 30 million and the wii at 60 million. Take into account that by the time GT5 releases, 5 million more consoles would have sold, with the possibility of potentially more now with a price cut (consoles generally sell around 10 million a year)

He also doesn’t take into account how many consoles were sold for the ps2 at the time gt3 came out. Being that it was the first real next gen release of GT I’m sure that’s the reason it got higher sales than the next one (GT4).

I’d almost consider a redesign of the 360 if I were MS because if you look at the cutesy apple-esqu wii and then compare it to the obvious gamer stylings of the 360 it doesn’t look that ‘familly friendly’…
And I don’t believe the ‘hardcore’ will adopt it in droves unless they make ‘halo natal’… Even nintendo kept the classic control schemes for ‘hardcore’ even now when we’re no longer thier target audience.

This year PS3 is surpassing thew Xbox 360 worldwide sales. Is not much to catch up.

. I just got Oblivion, and I LOVE IT. What I like is how I’m hours into it and haven’t even gone into the main quest. Plus, the mountains you see aren’t just a backdrop: I decided to dress in light armor and run towards them, expecting an invisible wall. While I did find an invisible wall eventually, I reached the tip of the mountains I wanted to reach. I’m keeping myself busy by forcing the Adoring Fan to run off of Dive Rock, then sliding down after him, then removing his clothes, THEN pelting him with arrows. Rinse, repeat. MUAHAHAHA.
Actually a great list, Carl. I’d be expecting to see most of that happen.

Microsoft is here to stay Liquid, games or no games. Xbox has Natal to back them up, and that can potentially win them 2010 whether it is a novelty or not. Most hardcore gamers will probably turn PS3 or PC if Natal fails to please their audience.
Sony will have run dry of long-awaited exclusive titles once they reach mid-2010, unless they start delaying. They will need to start announcing games and putting them out quickly. 2010 looks like a Sony year so far. As for Xbox, it’s looking far better than their extremely dry 2009 exclusive line-up. Let’s just hope that they don’t suddenly turn to the casual audience. For me, turning away from the hardcore audience is turning away from the console wars. Get all the sales in the world, but a purely casual gaming console won’t be better than a real console, for a real gamer. Not saying that Microsoft will suddenly turn the 360 into a super-Wii, but they must be warned: I will NOT be a happy camper if they dump real gamers.
