Nintendo forces fan made Zelda movie to be taken down
Nintendo recently issued a take down notice to the creators of the fan-made Zelda movie. The company allowed the studio to keep the movie online over the holidays, but was Nintendo wrong for interfering with fan made content?
The Hero of Time is a full on feature-length movie created by fans of the popular Zelda game. Since the game’s IP is owned by Nintendo the company issued a take down notice to the creators of the movie. The movie has been shown at various film festivals and popular video sites.
According to Cubed3, both Nintendo and the creators of the film came to an agreement to stop distributing the movie after the holidays. Apparently, Nintendo agreed to let the studio keep the film online for a little longer in the spirit of holiday season.
Last glimmer of the movie
However, I can’t really blame Nintendo for pulling out a take down notice as Zelda is considered sacred within the company. The developers have been particularly sensitive in keeping everything cannon. Also, a studio creating a feature length movie and showing it at festivals and shows can be construed as making money (studio advertisement) off of Nintendo’s IP.

Wow my opinion of nintendo just keeps getting lower and lower…
While I think the big N is within their rights to do that, since the movie was shown at festivals and stuff, they just suck anymore. Growing up with Nintendo was awsome but now that I am a big kid I need big kid toys and nintendo is still marketing toys for pre schoolers…

Zelda is a nice game wish it was own by Sony. I always had some love for that game even thought i hate Nintendo and i have never play the game. Also Metroid Prime and Pikmin are awesome games. Other then that Nintendo is as worst as Microsoft. Maybe… Soon Zelda movie by Columbia Pictures and then Zelda the movie game on PS3.

Worse than that fake April Fools trailer that was up? I thought that LoZ’s image would be ruined for sure if that was shown in theaters.

Nintendo has to look at it in more than one way.
Does the fan made movie hurt the Zelda image or help it?
Does anyone make any money on it, as it’s a Nintendo IP?
I think Nintendo needs to weigh both options and take it as a promotion towards the Zelda franchise and at the same time forgive any proceeds that are generated from the website sponsoring it in an effort as a peaceful negotiation without litigation.
