Final Fantasy XIII aftermath: Japan sales – 12/21 to 12/27
Final Fantasy XIII was released in Japan mid last month to a great deal of acclaim. The initial launch week sales figures were through the roof given the small PS3 install base. Media Create has just released the latest numbers for week two.
According to Media Create, Final Fantasy XIII dropped from number one to fourth place the following week after an incredible launch week. The game is reported to have sold close to 2 million units including the bundled version. Last week the game sold approximately 189k units. It is not clear if this is due to supply constraints or if the demand has been met. After all, it seems like approximately 40 to 50 percent of the PS3 owners in Japan went out to pick up Final Fantasy XIII.
The New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii took the top spot with 506k units sold. From a console perspective the PS3 sales dropped from 246k to 111k, a huge fall but still higher than the average 60k to 70k weekly sales.
See the hardware numbers below:
- Wii – 215,129
- DSi – 113,984
- PS3 – 110,519
- PSP -105,801
- DSi LL – 81,430
- DS Lite – 17,695
- Xbox 360 – 6,489
- PSP go – 4,192
- PS2 – 3,747
Top 10 Software titles:
- 01. New Super Mario Bros. (Wii) – 506,000
- 02. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS) – 291,000 – NEW*
03. Friend Collection (DS) – 227,000
04. Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) – 189,000
05. Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver (DS) – 125,000
06. Wii Fit Plus (Wii) – 114,000
07. Inazuma Eleven 2 Fire/Blizzard (DS) – 99,000
08. Wii Sports Resort (Wii) – 72,000
09. Taiko no Tatsujin Wii 2 (Wii) – 64,000
10. Professor Layton and the Flute of Malevolent Spirits (DS) – 64,000
It seems like the tide has turned as Nintendo is back on top again. However, I suspect that Sony will still take home the month of December.

Damn that’s a insane percentage hopefully here in the USA for the PS3 it can sell as good or if not ten times better here’s hoping most likely it will happen here. My friend imported the game from Kyoto, Japan he country. I might ask him to let me play it.

“I’m sad to say, I’m back from Florida. I miss it already.”
The North East has sucked lately. Long Island just got hot with another three inches.
So why all around the high sales in Japan towards the end of the year?
It’s not like Christmas is a celebrated holiday.

I’m sorry ncaissie. Reality hits a raw nerve, I know. Bless.
Oh and well done Ivan. Thats the first 100% legible post you have done. Looks like 2010 is going to be a bit less funny than 2009.

We drove down over 3 days and the same coming back.
On the way down we hit a storm in Pennsylvania and stopped in a hotel for the night at 7:30. The next day we passed over 100 cars and trucks in the ditch.
Many jack knifed transports.

ill be goign to Daytona beach sometime this year. I got four 7-day tickets to go there, how is it?

Miami and Palm are much better.
The beach is nice but the strip (Highway 1) isn’t that great.
There are a lot of abandon buildings and they are getting old.

When I went to Maui, I had quite the time answering questions about Canada. Their eyes went wide when I told them about -47C weather, and they all think that we live in barren icelands far away from civilization. Every province besides Ontario, anyways.
I saw teenagers shivering in Costco
. Then again I had quite the time dealing with the humidity for the first while.

Damn if you went to all those places then I bet you did drive a long time. The best time to see Daytona is during bike week/spring break that is if your into bikes and half naked women the place is packed and they decorate the town. Your right tho it has been unusually cold here. Last month while everybody else was getting snows it was 80 degrees here, 70 is the def of cold here lol. This month I don’t know what happend but it has been chilly.

LOL in Miami beach there was a woman with a winter coat, hat, scarf and mittens.

hai
whats the point of comparing PS3 games to WII or DS
i mean PS3 games are completely different from WII or DS. PS3 games have great visuals, graphics are lengthy and complete stretegic games. where as WII and DS games are still for child’s play. i dont get it why they compare ps3 with wii or ds
the only competetor of PS3 is xbox360 and according to the latest analysis and the interview given by sony’s owner or whatever,is that PS3 has 38 million registered users world wide that means 38 million units are sold as of Jan 2010. 360,on the other hand has sold 39 million units with a year-lead on the PS3.
As far as Wii games are concerned, Wii is cheaper, so every one has it.
besides whats the fun in playing those games which we used to play a decade ago, now when we have high quality , excellent graphics, and long length interesting games for PS3 and 360.
