Bioware plays musical chair with Dragon Age: Origins expansion and DLC

January 6, 2010

Bioware plays musical chair with Dragon Age: Origins expansion and DLC The highly acclaimed Dragon Age: Origins game was set to receive the Return to Ostagar DLC yesterday. However, as luck would have it Bioware announced that the DLC was delayed while confirming a suspected expansion pack.

Many fans were disappointed when a Bioware rep announced that Return to Ostagar would be delayed without an ETA on the official forums. Today, EA sent out an official press release in the mail announcing the speculated massive expansion pack Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening.

The Awakening is said to be big enough to be a full retail release all on its own. With the expansion disc, gamers will be able to re-customize their characters including the ability to “re-spec” their attributes. There will be an increase in level cap, new spells, abilities, and items. A purchase of the original game will be required in order to play the expansion pack.

The Awakening will run you $39.99 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and will release on March 16. It’s curious as to the reason for the sudden delay of Return to Ostager. One can’t help feel that this DLC might have been pushed aside to make room for the Awakening.

Well for that price is basically like buying a full game so it better not be a crappy DLC/expansion pack. Money hungry i bet half was taken before the game was ship.

  2. Roca.:

I’ll pass on this, specially since its coming out in March [FF13, and GoW3].

DJ Hero 2 has been confirmed. that was one of my 2010 predictions ;)

  3. Ghost:

So are they making the original game with this also on it (kinda like oblivion did)? Or are they just offering this as a dl?

  4. Roca.:

this is just a Full Expansion for $40 but you still need the original game to play it. go figured

  5. phranctoast:

It could be twice as long as the two GTA expansions which were priced at $20 each.

    @Ghost

By next year it will be included in the Game of The Year edition.

    phranctoast:
Twice as long as GTA not in this life. And i doubt this game any other edition.

  7. phranctoast:

twice as long as the “two GTA expansions”

What do you just skim what I write…..?

  8. Ivan_PSP:

I know it was about the GTA expansion pack not gta 4

  9. phranctoast:

Well.. apparently there is someone signing in as you that suggested otherwise.

I heard if you buy the game now for a limited time they will also give you the dlc code for “the stone prisoner” a $14.99 value for free.

  13. Roca.:

where did you hear that Ghost?

“By next year it will be included in the Game of The Year edition.”

I don’t know Phran they could pull a Star-Wars on us? That really pisses me off how they went about that…

  15. Ghost:

    @ Roca
One of my PSN buddies told me last night or should I say early this mourning. I was asking him about Dragon Age and was the online stuff similar to demon’s souls and he/she told me about that and about the other dlc content already released and about the one coming in March.

  16. Ghost:

I am getting ready to get a new game I just haven’t made up my mind which one to get yet. Haven’t had that problem in a while :D . Sony kicked some ass this year game wise.

  17. Roca.:

this game does not have online play at all, so it’s nothing like Demon’s Souls.

if you want something similar to Demon’s Souls wait for White Knight Chronicles, which comes out in about 3 weeks and its a RPG with online play just like Demon’s Souls

they are milking the DLCs for DA:O

  18. Ghost:

If it don’t have any online stuff at all, then why does the game show up when you look/compare trophies with somebody? AC1 MGS and games like that don’t show up at all.

  19. Roca.:

trophies shows no matter what even if the game is offline only. AC1 and MGS4 dont have trophy support and that’s why they dont show up.

most games from 2007-2008 dont have trophies which mean they will never show up when comparing trophies.

Games like Resistance 1, AC1, Army of Two, DMC, R+C1, and other don’t have trophies. some 2008 titles have trophies but it became stardand to all games in Jan 2009

  20. Roca.:

so Yeah, DA:O is a single player, offline only game.

BJ, Jofa and I will be getting WKC, it has a 4 player co-op if you want to join

  21. Ghost:

Thanx for the info I did not know that (about the trophies). And yeah I’ll join your group/clan in White Knight. Sounds fun just let me know more about it when you guys are ready to set up.

  22. Roca.:

awesome, it comes out Feb 2nd just so you know

  23. Ghost:

Hasn’t this game been out for awhile in Japan?? They are supposed to be adding some new features to it for the North America release also so I heard? I am kinda curious about what kind of classes you can pick from.

  24. Roca.:

this game has been on in Japan for about a year now
