Naughty Dog focusing on multiplayer aspect of Uncharted 2

January 6, 2010

Naughty Dog focusing on multiplayer aspect of Uncharted 2Uncharted 2 is an awesome game and has won GoTY awards by many sites. Not only does the it have a great single player campaign, it also has a stellar co-op and multiplayer mode. However, one thing it was lacking was a complex stats page.

It looks like the folks at Naughty Dog wanted to focus on the online multiplayer aspect of Uncharted 2 now. The developer revealed that DLC for the co-op would be arriving shortly. To make life easier, Naughty Dog re-crafted the entire Uncharted 2 Web site in order to show all kinds of interesting stats.

image

It seems like there is even a Career section where you can track the progress of your online multiplayer statistics. There will also be a dedicated Match History, Weapons and Medals section as well.  Looks like the developers are going full out in order to support the online community. It would have been nice to have all of this during launch. I suppose its better to  get it now then never.

    HH,

Finally got my imported copy of Left 4 Dead 2. Let me know when you want to have a game.

  2. Ivan_PSP:

Naughty Dog still fail because the online stats built in the game is a JOKE. Awesome game horrible stat tacking in the game also no customization allow unless you in a fucking party. I still manage to enjoy the game a lot they need to care for the game itself not the damn website.

  3. phranctoast:

I have the game and the only MP aspect I played was through the beta. I still haven’t gotten the two MP trophies.

What I played in the beta was great. With all the new games that came out I have been focusing more on SP lately all together. I still need to get back to this game and MW2.

    currently playing
    Prototype and Assassins Creed 2.

You playing 2 crappy ass games. UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves is awesome you should finish the story mode is a non stop fun ride.

  5. phranctoast:

    @Ivan

I finished the Story mode weeks ago. The topic was about MP so that’s why I brought it up.

Haven’t opened Assassins creed 2 yet, but Prototype is far from crappy.

  6. Ghost:

Is prototype worth the but phran? I been sitting on the fence about that one. It looks bad ass from what I’ve seen but I aslo heard it wasn’t to good.

  7. Ghost:

    “but” lol I mean buy

  8. phranctoast:

worth a buy? Depends on how much you spend. I got it in Kmart after returning the ps3 wireless keypad for the controller because it’s more or less useless to me, so i picked up the game.

Would have gotten InFamous if they had it and the only other tempting offer at the price was Chronicles of Riddick but that’s cheap enough on Amazon if I ever get bored.

The game is very entertaining. You build up your powers really quickly. I’m about halfway through the main missions and I have what I believe almost everything I can purchase.

It reminds me in a way of Assassins creed with the ability to run and go anywhere (even if you running up walls rather than climbing them).

    My early Review:
    Story:7.5
    Graphics:7.5
    Presentation:9
    Controls:7.5
    Lasting Appeal:8
    Online: 0

    Overall: 8

Solid game, that’s seems like a decent purchase but an awesome rental.

  11. ViRuS:

Online multiplayer would be better if games didn’t carry personal stats. They seem to be all that people care about when playing online.

I think without them, there would be less cheating/boosting and moaning about them in general.

Should just let people concentrate on having fun.

Pretty cool to see Naughty Dog adding stuff to their game though

  12. phranctoast:

    @Virus

People have been cheating prior to stat tracking.

This is kind of off topic but similar enough to the discussion so here I go…

While not exactly stat tracking as the story defines I needed to put my two sense in. :)

I’ve seen both sides of it. With the UT games everyone was the same so no one had any unfair advantage other than skill.

With COD games the advancement is good and drives people to play the game more to unlock levels and additional weaponry.

While the second way sucks for the newbie, it creates a desire to strive more by adding a rpg quality to it.

Both ways have the pro’s and cons.

  13. Ivan_PSP:

    ViRuS:
Naughty Dog did not added anything it was just to the website the game has awful stat tracking for online.

Anything they can do for UC2 to increase replayability will help, but they can’t wait too long or they will lose a lot more sales than if that content or those features were released earlier. UC2′s strength lies in it’s single player and polish though… I would think if they wanted to do MP right they would focus on new co-op quest (w/single player option) content as found in Borderlands.

    @Carlb

Ratchet and Clank games had weapons leveling before Borderlands.

While I would love more co op mission packs, single player mission packs are hit or miss. They seem to favor the open world games more (Oblivion, GTA, Fallout 3, Borderlands), while the other linear mission packs get left in the dust (Tomb Raider, TFU)
I personally believe it has to do with pricing structure.

It may be easier for someone to drop $7 on a couple of new maps than $20 on unproved missions.

While I love The Force Unleashed, I haven’t been able to swallow the price of the packs.

    @Sega.
    Adios.

  23. phranctoast:

the $7 statement was in reference to FPS type map packs, in case that was confusing.

“as if Blu-ray dics weren’t big enough, a new report has revealed that they’re about to get even bigger. Thanks to new production methods, the old 25GB per-layer storage capacityfor BDs has been increased to 33.4GB

Read and write at 33.4 GB per layer will be implemented thanks to the use of partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) signal processing. The new method can continue to use the existing Blu-ray optics: a blue-violet laser diode with a 405 nm wavelength, and an object lens with a numeric aperture (NA) of 0.85.

The Important part us that Sony is a huge supporter of the new method, so it would appear that the PS3 developers have even more disc space to fill with uncompressed madness. Final Fantasy can have even more graphics and Metal Gear Solid can finally realize its dream of the ultimate six-hour cutscene”

On Jan. 4, 2010, Sony, in association with Panasonic, announced plans to increase the storage capacity on their Blu-ray discs from 25GB to 35.4GB. The increased discs, according to Sony, will be readable on current Blu-ray Disc players with a firmware upgrade. No date has been set to include the increased space, but according to Blu-ray.com “it will likely happen sometime later this year.”

  31. harry sachz:

    @ Robert and CAD,

Definitely. I’ve got the UK version of the game (not the gimped Aussie version) so it shouldn’t be toning your game down when we get online. I was playing it yesterday when an Aussie joined the game, next thing I know, no more dead bodies after I shot them. Kinda ruined some of the fun.

  32. Happyhockum:

“the storage increase on BD will also help 3D movies and 3D gaming”

    Do tell us more.

Do you know how big Blu-ray has to be to show Avatar at home in 3D?

If the disc was going to be full in 2D @ 50gb
    (and if not why not?)
then how does a marginal boost in blank disc size help?

(Has this increase in disc size even been confirmed as making the move to retail movie discs?)

Double the number of frames/images (which is how this version of 3D works) would indicate 100gb is needed so increasing the 2 layers from 25gb to 33gb isn’t enough
(and it’s worth pointing out that no disc actually uses the ‘full’ 25gb or the ‘full’ 50gb).

More than 2 Blu-ray layers is as likely as 3 or 4 layer DVD, theoretically possible (and it has been for years) but no chance of it happening in reality for the consumer.

Blu-ray as it is already requires firmware updates to ‘fix’ certain movie playback issues – and that is without counting the mandatory updates everyone will need the next time they re-jig the BD+ ‘security’.

The last thing the format needs right now is another round of telling everyone (except the PS3 owners, surprise surprise) that their Blu-ray players are obsolete…..unless they really are going to live with the format locked into being little more than a game console format?

    So, a brand HD TV
    (which won’t even be mass-market for at least 6 – 12mths),
an undecided type of 3D glasses
(which may or may not be relatively expensive) and
a possibly a need for a new crop of Blu-ray standalones
(which will entail informing all adopters to date that they have an obsolete player).

Not exactly what anyone (sane) would call a recipe for rapid mass-market penetration.

  43. Liquid:

what is your prob with blu ray? how does it affect you?

  44. Happyhockum:

Yeah, nevermind the honest & reasonable questions.

…..and when they’re not even told something just go ahead, turn off you brain and start inventing your own BS

    FFS, fanboys, what a joke.

  45. phranctoast:

    @happy
what I read says the increase would be 50% and not 100%

  46. Happyhockum:

    phranctoast

Even if that is so and it is ‘only’ 50% that’s still indicating, for no loss of quality, a 75gb disc with 37.5gb layers is necessary.

(and lets be honest a lot of high def transfers are pi$$-poor and very ordinary looking as it is nevermind deliberately going along with a technically imposed decline)

  47. CAD:

Robertcarr has a 360? Robert do you own both consoles? I had you slotted as a PS3 guy. I should get your Gamertag.

  48. CAD:

Happy I’m not sure about needing that much space to do 3D. The 360 game of Avtar does 3D and that’s a DVD9. Mind you need a 3DTV, Glasses, and HDMI.

  49. phranctoast:

happy if the movie fits on a 25gig disc 50% more would put it at the new size. Only if a movie entirely takes up a 50 gig disc will you need 75gigs.

    h**p://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/Blu-ray-Storage-Increases-Pave-the-Way-for-3D-HDTV-Content.shtml

“The Blu-ray Disc Association today published details of the final specification for 3D-enhanced Blu-ray video. Simply titled Blu-ray 3D, the format will send a stereoscopic 1080p image but, despite the extra data, will only use about 50 percent more data than a traditional, 2D-only image. The relatively efficient storage is helped by an efficient variant of the H.264 video code known as Multiview Video Coding (MVC) that is also backwards-compatible with 2D devices.”

    h**p://www.electronista.com/articles/09/12/17/3d.blu.ray.spec.is.2d.compatible.efficient/

don’t listen to HH, 3D is just 50% more of what the BD version is

  51. Roca.:

most BD movies are 10GB to 17GB, depends on the extra contents. the movie along average about 7-10GB.

and of course a 2 layer BD disc is 50GB and soon will be 66.8GB

idk why is with HH and Blurays

“will only use about 50 percent more data than a traditional, 2D-only image”

Which means that for the best quality movies which use more than 44gb even the new size disc isnt enough.
Like I said an artificial limitation.

….naturally this is assuming that the new disc size will see the light of day for movies and will work with all the hardware brought out to date.

None of which is assured at this point in time.

What is it with me & Blu-ray?

Oh, I dunno, maybe its the way they had a time-wasting & incredibly dumb (read greed-driven) format war and how they have ended up foisting a ‘still in development’ high def format on the market in such a stupid way that practically guarantees movies on discs are over.
All high def can look forward to is being split between a multitude of niche formats until digital distribution is ready.

    Way to go. Idiots.

  56. Happyhockum:

    ncassie

Yeah, the problem for your idiot fanboy approach to this is that the format you cheer on is guaranteed to fail
(in it’s original intention of ‘becoming the next DVD’).

The one thing HD DVD had going for it above all else was that it was a complete & finished product, unlike Blu-ray which has only just ditched it’s ‘final’ profile 2.0 status to go back into development to play around with 3D, rendering all stand-alone hardware sold to date absolescent.

They couldn’t f*ck things up further if they tried…..and the fanboy element whining about how PS3 will do all of this with a firmware just illustrates perfectly how Blu-ray is a format revolving totally around a game console.

    Niche status guaranteed.

  57. Happyhockum:

    CAD

I was talking about movies, not games.

Xbox games are pretty much completely free of any disc size constraint, to all intents and purposes now, so long as you have a hard drive

  58. harry sachz:

If you want to compare the two, HD DVD was actually a more complete format from the get-go. Blu Ray had to catch up after the demise of HD DVD with the 2.0 profile etc.

Unfortunately, the better product does not always dictate the winner. History shows us that Sony’s Betamax video tapes were better than VHS however we all know how that turned out.

  59. MisterX:

DVD is pretty dead for me, the last time I bought a dvd were LOTR 1 thru 3, which I convert to digital H264 format. Blu-ray is specific to living room only unless BD version of ‘UP’ came with dvd, BD and digital. There’s no portability so increasing the layer size doesn’t make a difference whatsoever. Sony should make a portable version but then again the price range will b in thousand. Anyone kno how long it take to convert Blu ray movie to 1080P H.264 or MKV format?

  60. Happyhockum:

    Indeed harry.

The thing is I’d have liked to see high def on disc get a good run, there’s a lot of classic stuff which will probably never get transferred now as the emphasis stays with the game console guys and the latest shallow Hollywood b*llocks.

I’m a lover of film, not formats and Blu-ray, for film lovers, has been a disaster.

  61. Happyhockum:

    Mister X

Depends on your CPU, RAM and the software.

  62. MisterX:

    @happy

It took me an hour using dvdfab to encode 1 pass to 850 by 480 H.264 for almost 2 hour long movie. I am using AMD Quad core with 6 GB ram. Depending on speed of blu ray drive on my PC, I am betting half a day worth to encode which is f*cking insane

  63. Roca.:

    HH

next time link your rants, its hard to know when your just trolling, hating or speaking the truth

  64. Happyhockum:

    Mister X

Quad core is a good start and you’ve plenty of RAM.

I’d sit down if I were you cos if you think 1hr was a long wait, well, read on……

Now I don’t encode myself but I know people that do and people who are very talented amatuers at it.
There are softwares out there that have anyone with a PC convinced they have the talent for this (and they are much mistaken).
Skills, experience and a detailed knowledge are required to produce the best results.

Here’s the bit you’re going to love.

I know of one guy that had one pass (and you really ought not be thinking anything less than 2 pass) take 16hrs.
    The 2nd pass was longer.

Yes it was a long movie and there were deblocking things done and all the rest but it can be a long wait.

It’s hard to give general rule of thumbs cos, as I said, there are a lot of variables.
If you’re serious about learning this stuff I’d try and get in touch with a high def group on IRC and see how you get on.

    Good luck.

  65. Roca.:

“the best quality movies which use more than 44gb”

is that a Discovery Channel 12hr documentary in HD + commercials?

  66. MisterX:

    @happy

I only encode because I like the portability and watched it mostly on Viewsonic VDP400 player which I can easily hook it up via component to any tv I want including my laptop. The bottom line is not to make the best encoding but just enough to be watchable. However the interesting part is the HD because it will be nice to encode a movie of BD and watch high def in any big screen tv.

16 hours is just ridiculous. At the most 3 hours is adequate.

  67. twilight:

I actually supported the High Definition format first. I liked the fact that the discs were region free and the fact that the format was a more stable format at the time. When I realized the high definition format was about to go under, I unloaded everything and traded it in for top value before the official announcement came out that Hd dvd would be no more. I knew it was the end for Hd dvd when Warner Brothers jumped ship. All blu ray players need to support whatever format of blu ray discs that come out not just the Ps3. This is a valid point that was mentioned. People will be furious if they buy a blu ray player that will not be able to support the new blu ray discs that they purchase. Unfortunetely, there are still some blu ray players that are still having problems playing certain blu ray discs and these are not just the budget blu ray players either. This is why many people purchase the Ps3 system as well. They know that the Ps3 will play any type of blu ray discs with no problem.

  68. MisterX:

    @twilight

Remember the DIVX format? I think it was circuit city that market it where u can buy a movie for $5 and the first time u hit play on that specific player, u have up to 2 days to watch it unlimited which after that, movie was locked until you pay another $5.
The F*ck up thing is I got version 1.0 player and won’t play ver 2.0 disc. I was really pissed. If blu-ray is like that then all I can say is WOW..

  69. MisterX:

    correction

“I got version 1.0 player and won’t play ver 2.0 disc”

Actually I had trouble playing DVD Matrix regular DVD with ver 1

  70. harry sachz:

From what I hear, I think the older blu ray players can play newer discs, but the interactive BD live stuff isn’t available to them.

One thing that swayed me into spending the extra to get a PS3 over a blu ray player was that the PS3 was updatable to play this type of content.

You see here you go again, you can always be relied upon to roll in here to champion the format and yet when it comes down to it you obviously know f*ck all about it.

You sit laughing about ads and whatever stupidity passes for thought in your idiot fanboy head but unfortunately for Blu-ray the facts are that there must be quality reductions to cater for the size of the biggest Blu-ray movies.

Once again you just illustrate how you are merely a fanboy supporting a format and that in truth you have no idea about the films themselves.

    Here’s a quick quizz.
Here are 10 recent Blu-ray releases, what size in gbs are the following –

    Kingdom of Heaven
    Fame
    I love you Man
    Che pt 1
Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (ex vers)
    Bruno
    Jerry Maguire
    Step Brother
    Twilight
    A Perfect Getaway

If you answered “more than 44gbs” to all of them then you have a clue.

    twilight

I wasn’t prepared to pas up on the HD DVD bargains, I got a shed-load of high def films for peanuts (150+).
The spare player incase of accident or breakdown was also so cheap.

Ultimately if Blu-ray ever does get its act together for PC (which is looking less and less likely the more time passes on this) I can always rip them to BD, which is a little ironic.

    Mister X
Anyone daft enough to buy a Blu-ray player withoput net connectivity (meaning a hell of a lot of profile 1.0 & 1.1 players) has serious trouble every time they muck about with the security &/or need a firmware fix for new movies.

Just like HD DVD was pestered about whether the early players would be able to playback the triple layer 51gb disc or the 34gb dual & 17gb single layer discs (which were about to happen as the format was canned) so it is now open to question how every Blu-ray player currently out there will handle a shift to this 33gb layer disc.

If they toast everyone who currently has a stand-alone I’d say that pretty much ensures Blu-ray stays in the PS3 niche with the negative publicity.

  73. Ivan_PSP:

    Roca.:
Don’t listen to this morons Xbots you 35.4GB per layer sweet also we will only need a firmware upgrade to use it. I have a Blu-ray burner i hope they make blank disc also. Blu-ray is the future of movies HD-DVD was destroy.

  74. MisterX:

“If they toast everyone who currently has a stand-alone I’d say that pretty much ensures Blu-ray stays in the PS3 niche with the negative publicity.”

That’s y every ps3 fanboy always say free blu ray in ps3

  75. Happyhockum:

    Ivan

You see you’re at it too.
Another one who is a fanboy of the brand but who sadly knows f*ck all squared about the actual product and the tech involved.

Unless it’s covered in simpleton’s a-b-c kiddie steps on some fanzine website or mag you’ve no idea, right?

….go on, admit it, you’re a school boy with a saturday job badgering & lecturing poor passersby in the local electrical store.
    We’ve all seen your type.

The fact is you won’t actually ever see 33gb a layer, just like nobody ever actually got 25gb or 50gb from the current discs, you can knock off at least 2.5gbs
(going by what we’ve seen so far with current discs).

  76. Ivan_PSP:

Save your crap for someone who cares LMFAO. Face defeat already stop the denial is pathetic. Blu-ray Disc is our future for games/movies/music and everything media. HD DVD was destroy by Sony’s empire of supporters wipe out extinct for life. That’s why Microsoft didn’t added as standard on Xbox 360 they had no fate on it which now backfire multi disc LoL.

    Cya in hell LoL.

    MisterX:
Free Blu-ray drive on every PS3, thanks for that.

  77. twilight:

    Happyhockum,
I didn’t stay with the Hd dvd format at the time because I was too worried about being out of luck if the system broke. I was thinking at that time that I didn’t want to be stuck with a bunch of movies and nothing to play the movies on. I still sometimes question the types of movies that make it out on to the blu ray format only. I am am really into films. I see what you mean. They think that you are just trying to totally just bash the blu ray format. However, you are also speaking from the point of view from someone who is truly into films. From this point of view, the selection of titles available on blu ray do come up short.
    Mister X,
Most of the blu ray players today are much better. However, many of the players still struggle with with java heavy discs and the different types of blue ray disc protection on certain blu ray discs. It causes problems with many of the blu ray players.

  78. Happyhockum:

No Ivan, Sony is your wet-dream, that’s all.

You have a hard-on for a CE corp.

You invent and lie about the kit you have to people you don’t even know on the net
(Ivan claimed to have bought a Sony Vaio with a 500gb SSD in June 09).

How sad & pathetic does that make you?

“If you answered “more than 44gbs” to all of them then you have a clue.”

I guess it’s good that HDDVD went the way of the dodo. It wouldn’t even be able to handle that in its current state.

All this anti Blu ray talk really makes me believe you are simply a bitter Red fanboy. Your side lost…sorry..get over it.

    “Indeed harry.

The thing is I’d have liked to see high def on disc get a good run, there’s a lot of classic stuff which will probably never get transferred now as the emphasis stays with the game console guys and the latest shallow Hollywood b*llocks.

I’m a lover of film, not formats and Blu-ray, for film lovers, has been a disaster.”

A lot of classics owned by MGM/Sony. Disaster as it is..i guess… did you plan on those classics making it to HDDVD?

Here you go. Here’s a warner one for you ;)

    h**p://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Gone-with-the-Wind-Blu-ray/758/

Also on a technical basis video and audio was better on Blu ray.

More space and higher bit rates makes that possible. Additional space made way for Uncompressed Audio and movies encoded at compressed formats (not Mpeg 2) using a higher bitrate would look better than the alternative.

True that the HDDVD spec was finalized first so some early adopters could be left in the cold, but features solely for “extras” shouldn’t be a factor that makes that format better as opposed a format where the actual “movie” can look and sound better.

Lets see the pros vs cons
Pro-HDDVD-spec finalized first so network connections and HDi were finished prior to BD live and profile 2.0 BR players.

Pro-Prices on players were cheaper. Even prior to the fire sale.

    Cons-Less disc space for content
Cons-Higher percentage of potential piracy issues due to less encryption than the competition
Con-Less movie studio support and all support all around (CE companies)

  85. Roca.:

It seems like Sony,Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Toshiba are all supporting 3D Bluray.

Sony Pictures, Warner Bros, Dreamworks, Universal and almost all major movie studios are also supporting it.

  86. Ivan_PSP:

    Roca.:

    Hey Roca….

Were there 3D TV stations (networks, including ESPN-3D) available in the 70′s or 80′s or even 90′s when 3D made brief resurgences?

I’m confused as to all the attention 3D is getting lately with multiple players on the market to support it (even Toshiba). Isn’t it supposed to suck?

  89. Happyhockum:

    Roca

“on the PSN the Full 1080p version of Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets about 9.5GB”

    There it is folks.
Proof that even the PBots haven’t a f*cking clue when it comes to high def and even they (for all the PR propaganda they suck up) can’t tewll the difference between a so-called ‘full’ HD Blu-ray and an encode down to 9gb.

    phranctoast

You can run off into whatever (self) invented narrative you like but for every GWTW you can find there are 100 Spiderman 3s
(and the PS3 demographic ensures its staying that way – even more so if they bail on every stand-alone out there right now).

3D needs a brand new HD TV (which, with one or 2 expensive exceptions, aren’t even in the shops right now).
The ($60 – $100) shuttering glasses are the less impressive of the 2 competing systems btw, the 3D effect RealD polarized system requires a different type of TV not even out yet.

As long as 3D requires glasses, and makes it look like you’re watching miniatures play acting in a terrarium, it’ll be a novelty. Once the glasses are out of the equation, then I’ll be interested.

Even then they have to get past that “moving diorama” effect, which makes everything seem smaller, not bigger, than a traditional 2D viewing.

…..and btw, since when did the PS3 (slim or otherwise) have an HDMI 1.4 connection?
PS3 is HDMI 1.3 (or, IIRC in the slim, 1.3a) it can’t gain the HDMI hardware with a firmware update so it looks like it’ll have to be some sort of half-way house.

    Ivan

As someone who often & loudly touts the value of getting Xbox games off of the net why are ytou lying (again) about high def movies?

“either go Blu or go no where”

B*llocks, the net is full of high def encodes & rips, in fact so far every single Blu-ray release has been encoded to varying sizes.

There are also HD TV Caps & encodes.

    Get a clue, idiot fanbot.

  90. Roca.:

nope it wasnt supported at all back them, but the “bitter red fanboy” keep saying it will suck even though it’s being supported by all major Electronics manufactures and it’s even getting its own TV spaces/netwokrs.

Avatar: the Game is the first PS3 game to supported it. that just shows how big is the support the tech is getting.

Toshiba supporting it? yeah that was a shocker lol

  91. Roca.:

HH: “can’t tewll the difference between a so-called ‘full’ HD Blu-ray and an encode down to 9gb”

I have the BD disc version and the digital 1080p version and they all look the same. the BD version support different sound format, different languages, subtitles, in-movie features, BD-live and a whole bunch of other things.

the visual quality is still the same idiot

  92. Roca.:

“High Speed HDMI 1.3 cables can support all HDMI 1.4 features except for the HDMI Ethernet Channel”

another idiot who doesnt know what he is talking about. and he talks like if he has actually seen HD-3D in action

and the price is just a matter of time, back when the PS3 came out BD players were $1000 and 40″+ HDTVs (plasma/projection/LCD low contrast ration @ 60hz) cost $3,000-$6,000

Good article, even if it is a bit biased against Bluray.

    @happy.

    With your point with Roca.

While Downloads are more than likely more compressed encodes you also have to keep in mind that when you download a movie your not downloading the 4 languages each taking up a significant portion of the disc.

Which gets us back to that other point. If the 3D version of a movie exceeds current limitations, drop some of the languages and release them as their own release.

  94. phranctoast:

woops.. you beat me to it Roca.

  95. gunstar:

    brothers, brothers

Don’t forget to remember that all this big push on bigger storage capacity of digital content is to combat the real enemy – PIRACY.

The bigger digital content to existing bandwidth ratio is what’s keeping the piartes at bay.

Didn’t you notice that Sony is getting all the help it needs from its brand competitor’s like Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp, Toshiba etc. just to establish Blu-Ray and everything that comes with it including 3D.

But that doesnt mean they wanna hurt our pockets.

DVD and Blu-Ray’s retail prices are almost just the same when they first came in to the market but the digital contant and value is leaps & bounds for the latter.

The blu-ray association might also have a say on internet bandwidth control , regulation and pricing just to protect the health of all software developers & publishers and all major electronics manufacturers.

Heck one of these days even music will come in blu-ray format for this matter.

And even more Heck is the possibility that this companies will even produce their own Playstations!(I think that’s going abit too far ^_^ he he he)

Don’t be surprised if they continue to dump all this insane digital content to increase file sizes all the time.

And yes don’t be surprised if games prices will go down too.

Don’t be surprised if 50% of blu-rays digital content is dedicated to walls upon walls of security.

    And they will do that.

Bottom line Sony must always step up the ante and keep up with Internet technology.

    This typing can be tiring…

Rentals hurt their bottom line, but his was always known. I rented a lot more movies than i purchased last year.

  98. gunstar:

If these big companies have no choice but to jump on Sony’s BluRay bandwagon, what choice have us?

Nintendo and Microsoft jumped into Sony’s DVD ( even if they don’t mention it to their customers) and they made bazillions of bucks & gamers happy.

    So what’s the problem?

Can someone tell this forum any reason why the next Wii or XBOX games won’t be coming in BluRay discs.

  99. Roca.:

because its mostly owned by Sony and it will allow the PS3 to have the upper hand.

but Sony was interested in letting MS and Nintendo have a BD drive on their console for movies only. idk what happen to that

  100. phranctoast:

    Next Gen will be interesting.

Either Blu ray all the way or Digital Distribution. I’m sure both Sony and MS want DD as it completely cuts out reselling/rentals market and leaves it entirely up to them how they plan to sell and rent their games.

I’m just not sure the infrastructure is ready for it

He can’t see a difference between a 9gb encoded download and no matter how dersperatly you try to spin it a 50gb Blu-ray disc is not taken up with 9gbs of movie and the rest in extras and/or different languages.

When you habve friends and allies like that why do you even bother, the moron brigade will always let you down.

IIRC he even regularly claims to have a high-end 50″+ recent HD TV, so you can’t even rely on a cr@p & ancient low res HD TV to help you out.
Unless he’s like Ivan and a saddo liar, which is always possible.

Face it, the game console fanboys know f*ck all about it

    where is your link again,

oh thats right, another comment from the frustrated hater who actually claimed ODST look better than Uncharted 2 and that Upscaled DVD look just as good as Bluray movies..

you must be getting a lot of tips at the circus your work for :D

  107. Roca.:

“You managed to leave out the fact that everyone needs a new HD TV to be able to use it”

and whats your point??? if you want a hybrid car then you need a new car, if you want a touch screen cell phone then you need a new one, if you want 120hz-240hz then you need a new TV, if you wantted a 360 with HDMI then you had to buy/wait for the 360s with HDMI port, if you want to watch movies in HD then you need a BD player, if you haven’t make the jump to the next gen system then you need a new console….etc.

that’s how the tech world is. one of the best PC right now and as soon as you get home with it it will be alread outdated. come down to earth dude and dont stay behind.
