Sony claims God Of War III only possible on PS3

January 7, 2010

Sony claims God Of War III only possible on PS3God Of War III looks set to be a truly epic game, and one that could become the first system seller on the Playstation 3. And it’s a PS3 exclusive, which is sure to be quite galling for Xbox 360 owners. However, could the game actually exist on other consoles, specifically the Xbox 360? Sony claims not.

From what we’ve seen of the game so far, God Of War III looks fantastic, and is likely to play just as well. But is there anything in the game which is inherently only possible on the PS3? Speaking to CVG, U.K. product manager for God Of War III Claire Backhouse, claimed:

The developers have worked hard to use the power of the PS3 to make GOW3 look amazing and have added features that are only possible with PS3. The dynamic lighting solution employed in GOW III is only feasible through the computing power provided by the Cell SPUs.

For example, using the High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDRL) technology, the camera – when using Krato’s sightline – will emulate the human retina, causing players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area, similar to how the human eye would need to adjust.

Is that really that amazing or unique? I’m not convinced, and not taking anything away from the game, Sony, or Backhouse, I call BS. We will, of course, have to wait and see if the game truly is groundbreaking and whether it pushes the PS3 to its limits so much so that it really couldn’t exist on the Xbox 360. There’s only three months left to wait.

  1. twilight:

I am really looking forward to this game. I can’t wait for this game to come out.

  2. harry sachz:

Yep, this was a major reason why I bought a PS3. I just hope it gets rating approval so I can actually buy it.

  3. harry sachz:

I don’t know why Backdoor is describing the retina feel thing as amazing….

  4. harry sachz:

    err… Backhouse

  5. Spideydog:

“I don’t know why Backdoor is describing the retina feel thing as amazing….”

    Same.

All I can say with this thread is …. let the flame war begin !!! DING, DING …

  6. Ivan_PSP:

    harry sachz:
I hate to disappoint you but i think this game won’t be allow in your country is bloody as hell. Good Luck.

I highly doubt any PS3 exclusive can be possible on Xbox 360 unless they redesign the all the games a major water down version and a lot of extra disc. Like is even possible on PS2 LoL.

I ordered the Ultimate Edition since it was cheap just $100 a must buy deal.

God of War III no way can a game like this be made on Xbox unless is design from scratch and downgraded a lot and use multi disc.

God of War III is full 1080p.

  7. ViRuS:

I dunno if this would be possible on the 360. Probably not, if people are making articles stating that this is the case.

I’ve not even seen anything of this game yet. Nada,

I’d expect SONY to say it’s only possible on the PS3, regardless of wether that was true or not. It’s just a bit of gamesmanship.

It’s good having a jab at your arch rival when the opertunity pressents itself.

  8. RobertCarr316:

    @harry
do you have the GOW3 demo? if not i have a spare code if ya want it

  9. Ivan_PSP:

    RobertCarr316:
I got the God of War Collection it had a bad invalid code. I don’t mind I’ll wait to play it i already saw the demo so i can’t wait beware who you share with i know is just a paper code that your password.

Dude no PS3 game well exclusive is possible on Xbox 360 unless you have like 15 disc and a water down version.

  10. Saber_HAHAha:

The retina thing is nothing special whatsoever. Will it only be possible on the PS3? Due to the way it was developed, probably, but that doesn’t say that the 360 can have just as good of results.

Although in terms of graphics, the 360 is showing me even less evidence of superiority. We’ll only know by the end of the console war, and all the fanboys will have to rest in their camps by then, and their next pointless battle will likely be PS4 vs 720.

  11. Roca.:

the Demo looked awesome…its just as good as U2 if not better but the lighting effect impressive. the demo was a early built also so we might have to wait and see when the game is release

  12. oldschool1987:

GOW3 demo is brilliant and I got the Platinum for GOW1+2 :)

Harry just get it imported from America or UK mate, shame Aussies classification board don’t think 18+ people are mature enough, ignorant of them tbh, bunch of wankers lol.

  13. me_:

High Dynamic Range Lighting is in just about all 360/PS3 games. It was an exciting feature 5 years ago (on PC) but now it’s just over done.

  14. harry sachz:

@ Robert, that would be awesome! i am still at work, so if you can send it to me via Xbox live I can pick it up from here.

  15. CarlB:

I’m with Dave: “BS”. This and every other PS3 exclusive can be done on 360 and vice versa. Will they be exactly the same? No, but the differences would likely be subtle as they have been in almost all multiplatform titles to date. So the 360 may not be able to “do” HDRL in the same way… big deal, it’s likely 360 would have better anti-aliasing (MLAA is still experimental and not perfected, not to mention the artifacts that come with it), a smoother framerate, and or shorter load times.

I’m also with Harry: this title is one of the main reasons I got a PS3 in the first place. Okinawa won’t be nearly as strange with Kratos to keep me company come March.

  16. Rhino:

    What CarlB said.

  17. oldschool1987:

@ Carl: Nah, Bull mate. I don’t think the 360 could handle U2 or K2 at all. Even during the last gen I could admit the PS2 never stood a chance against the Xbox in graphical terms… but kicked xbox’s ass with it’s exclusives lol.

  18. CarlB:

UC2 on 360 = no spinning dagger and less pixelation. KZ2 on 360 with Gears of War 3 level graphics… nice.

  19. Ivan_PSP:

Killzone 2 destroys any Xbox 360 game in graphics even UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune that came out in 07.

The best game on Xbox 360 in graphics for me is Bioshock. But Xbox 360 cannot compete with PS3 exclusives it will get raped.

  20. Sorral:

“UC2 on 360 = no spinning dagger and less pixelation. KZ2 on 360 with Gears of War 3 level graphics… nice.”

Wow, and here I thought that you would be a little rational..but instead you decided to pick on U2 and KZ2.

    Sigh, nevermind.

MLAA is not really experimental for some if not all sony’s studios.

    http://gamer.blorge.com/2009/11/14/naughty-dog-uses-spus-instead-of-gpu-for-uncharted-2/

    Pixelation in U2? wut?
    Oh right..this.

    That was a good laugh.

  21. Ghost:

Well untill M$ or one of there devs actually makes a game that can rival or out do GOW3/U2 or even U1 for that matter then I guess people can keep saying that it can’t be done on the 360. So I guess it’s not bullshit untill proven otherwise.

  22. Ghost:

Hey oldschool what’s your PSN Id??

  23. Ivan_PSP:

    Ghost:
The same. Xbox 360 is dated you can’t do good game on trash.

  24. Royzy:

I’m really looking forward to GOW3, but just the thought of PS3 makes me shed a little tear.

My girlfriend’s PS3 stopped reading Blu-Ray discs last week, so I bought her a new one because I felt partly responsible for it, since I bought it third-hand only 6 months ago. The best bit is that mine has stopped reading Blu-Rays too. Well sometimes it reads them, then it’ll crash and stop reading them again for a while.

So that’s my wonderful story about 2 broken PS3s, only 3 days apart. I had just bought Borderlands and Ass Creed 2 too. I am gutted.

I’m trying to justify buying myself a new one as well. Both were probably well out of warranty.

  25. Roca.:

the first 2 troll comments came from CarlB as usual. he thinks he knows about developing games now. I wonder if he is going to be the one to make a PS3-quality game on the 360 since he seems to know alot about it

  26. harry sachz:

Yes, because you can spot a troll a mile away….

    @ Royzy,

That sucks…. hopefully the blu ray drives in the slims last longer.

  27. Ghost:

Well if you use your ps3 alot to play games and to watch BR’s the disk readed wears out in a couple of years same goes for 360 and watching dvd’s on them. They should have came out with a seperate disk reader built in one for games the other for movies.

  28. phranctoast:

I have a launch 60 gig and I play more blu ray’s in it than games.

    *knocks on wood*

As for the GOW3 stuff. This sounds like developers fluffings.Nothing more nothing less. I’m sure we’ll see what people have been raving about in due time, with the “closer to finished product” that’s been getting previewed.

  29. Roca.:

I also have a lauch 60GB and I play alot of BD movies on it. not as much as phranc though, his collection is insane (I wonder what kind of deals/discount he gets) ;)

  30. phranctoast:

I used to get a 10% discount from Amazon on Blu rays, but while it was only supposed to last for one year, at lasted for two.

Just picked up 8 new movies with my Amazon gift card.

    -Terminator 2 (Sky-net edition)
    -Terminator 3
    -Terminator Salvation
    -Transformer:Revenge of the Fallen
    -The Dark Knight
    -The Hangover
    -Up
    -Monsters Inc.

-Also got the Haunted Lands Trilogy from Richard Lee Byers (books),

-and I preordered Dantes Inferno and Bioshock 2

which both have $10 discounts on future games. I’ll probably use those discounts towards Bayonetta and Darksiders in late February. That should sufficient time for Bayonetta to get patched or a serious price cut (maybe I’ll buy it used to show my disgust at piss poor development)

  31. Roca.:

damn dude, are you trying to open a BD-only Blockbuster lol

I have Dark Knight and Hangover…Hangover is funny as shit, it was one of the best BD movies I bought last year

  32. Ivan_PSP:

    Roca.:
The Dark Knight is awesome i got it too.

    My Blu-ray movies.
    The Dark Knight
    300
    The Day After Tomorrow
    Soon 2010 i don’t really buy Blu-ray movies LoL.

    Ghost:
My old 60GB from Jan 21,2007 gets use a lot to play PS2 games like SOCOM 1 & 2 plus it has firmware 1.10 still and i have never had a problem with it. I don’t play PS3 games on it since no trophy. I play on my 80GB. If you know to take care of your console nothing will happen. My Xbox 360 lasted a long time until e74.

  33. ncaissie:

Anything is possible on the 360 and even the Wii if you dumb it down enough. The point he was making is you can’t get that level of graphics and functionality on the 360 or Wii. Stop spinning it. But I expected as much from Carl and HH will also.
Dave is more and more an xbot every blog.

  34. ncaissie:

@Royzy you need to take better care of your stuff.
You probably let it get full of dust or scratched the discs.

  35. ncaissie:

Anyone see District 9? It sucked.

  36. Ghost:

“Dave is more and more an xbot every blog”

Glad I wasn’t the only one thnking that.

  37. phranctoast:

    Oh shit.. forgot.

    Also District 9. lol

I enjoyed it. It was very different.

  38. Roca.:

“Anyone see District 9? It sucked.”

indeed, all thae hyped just because it came from Peter Jackson. D9 was lame!

  39. Roca.:

it was too realistic to the point where it bored me to hell. I expected to be more epic and to see more action-packed scences from a PJ’s movies

  40. twilight:

    Phranctoast,
You are just now just getting the Dark Knight. How could you wait so long to get this movie? I really like this movie.
    Roca,
I’m glad you liked the Hangover. I just didn’t get into this movie too much at all. It seems that everyone enjoyed this movie but me.

  41. Roca.:

    @twilight

its been a while since I’ve seem a good comedy movie. Hangover was just too funny and it also had a great plot and a awesome cast

  42. phranctoast:

    @twilight.

I wanted sufficient movie to ownership time to pass, and for the price to drop a bit.

I also didn’t buy too many blu rays last year.

I think i back cataloged Starship troopers and Men in Black and I got the Dragons Lair 2 Time Warp.

    I rented more stuff though.

  43. Happyhockum:

“Sony claims God Of War III only possible on PS3″

Candidate for the most surprising headline of the year?

    Not.

  44. phranctoast:

“Not” gained back popularity with Borat, which was great as when he was saying it, it showed how out of touch he was. Hence the humor of it.

But seriously….It wasn’t even remotely funny when Wayne and Garth were doing it almost 20 years ago.

  45. Roca.:

    lol

  46. Royzy:

That’s the thing, I do look after my stuff. I cleaned this 60GB all the time and the discs aren’t scratched. And the other PS3 is nothing to do with my care other than that it was bought with my pounds.

It kept givng me the 80010514 error, which is supposed to be software corruption based, not hardware, apparently.

I’d call Sony to replace, but it is probably more hassle and costly than it is worth. Hopefully a new bundle will come out shortly, then I’ll grab that.

  47. twilight:

    Phranctoast,
I wish I was as patient as you are. Some games and certain blu ray titles I just can’t wait for. I usually buy the stuff I really want the first week it comes out. At least, the items are discounted the first week they come out. I will not be able to wait until the extended edition of Lord of the Rings comes out. This movie is just too important to me to wait.
    Roca,
The cast was okay in the Hangover. I just didn’t find the movie to be very funny.
I really like the game Bayonetta so far.

  48. Roca.:

“I’d call Sony to replace, but it is probably more hassle and costly than it is worth. Hopefully a new bundle will come out shortly, then I’ll grab that.”

Sony will send you a Slim for $25 more than the original fee

“It kept givng me the 80010514 error, which is supposed to be software corruption based, not hardware, apparently”

try reformating your system and your HDD, it worked for Jofa

  49. phranctoast:

    @twilight

    Hang in there!!!!
You lasted this long without HD LOTR movies. I’m sure waiting on the definitive version (read. Extended Editions) can’t be that brutal. We need to boycott this release and show the studios they can’t F us in the A whenever they want.

  50. Roca.:

    @Twilight

“I really like the game Bayonetta so far.”

I gave the demo another try, and while the combat was great the game looks, plays and feel just like NG/DMC with a weak storyline. and then there is floating platform to make it worse and the way she walks is stupid…..and why the hell she end up getting naked after a 5-hit combo

  51. phranctoast:

“..and why the hell she end up getting naked after a 5-hit combo”

Lets be honest… Because it beats the shit out of trying to get a 20 hit combo in order to get her naked ;)

  52. gunstar:

Whats wrong with the writers here?

    What a lame head line…

It should be “Kratos shags God of War III ultra realistic female character
models so real it could not be done in XBOX360″

That will be more worth the discussion.

And where are my XBOX360 news am I the only one noticing the lack there of?

  53. CarlB:

“Yes, because you can spot a troll a mile away…”

    Lol… nice one Harry.

“the first 2 troll comments came from CarlB”

Ha ha… putting on those blinders here again Roca? Apparently you didn’t see or acknowledge Ivan’s usual troll rhetoric, or recognize I was actually agreeing with the author. Let alone that I acknowledged the titles would not look exactly the same and there would likely be differences as with every multiplatform game. Whatever.

Still bashing Bayonetta as usual I see… considering you love to use the “every other website” theory, maybe you should check the reviews and it’s “universal acclaim” on Metacritic, or at the very least give the actual game a try… but I can see you’ve already made your mind up you will hate it as it is not a PS3 exclusive and it looks tremendously better on 360… lol… maybe you should go back to playing jigglies in your blood reduced NG2 with the sixaxis .

  54. CarlB:

“And where are my XBOX360 news am I the only one noticing the lack there of?”

Get used to it gunstar, PS3 news in comparison to 360 news is covered in about a 5:1 ratio here.

  55. Roca.:

agree with the author with someting “anti-PS3″…go figure

then we had a dumb argument with Mike because he said the PS3 version of DA:O was slightly superior than the 360s because of the graphics and draw distance. but instead of agree with him you tried to argue that fact to death even though you only played the 360 version and Mike played both.

you can enjoy Bayonetta rental, I liked better when it was called Devil May Cry…your real joke

and nobody is bashing it….we all know the fact that the PS3 version got is inferior due to poor development.

  56. CarlB:

How is it “anti-PS3″ to say that two consoles that are at an equitable level in video processing power can basically do the same games with only subtle differences? Please.

Mikes article was going off of GameSpots review, I referenced it with IGN’s head to head and DF’s face-off. It’s seems to be a matter of preference between smoother framerate and less pop-in (360) or better image quality (PS3), not to mention IGN saying those little pauses and hitches on PS3 add up to about an hour after 50-60 hours of gameplay. Not my cup of tea, but that’s just my opinion. If I really cared that much though, I would definitely get the PC version.

If you think Bayonetta is the same as DMC, well, you really don’t know what you are talking about. Try playing the actual game. Yes, the end result is the same, the PS3 version is inferior.

  57. Roca.:

Make clearly said EA send him the PS3 version and he had to ask for the 360s. he also said he played the both and that the graphical difference and the draw distance is noticeable.

I have played the game and I havent notice any game breaking frame-rate issues, thats just your fanboy wishes….and if you didnt know both the 360 and the PS3 have slow frame rates (just like GTA4) but those problem are not that noticeable. stop reaching because your running out of straws. and yes Bayonetta is a must own for 360 owner because 2009 was a dry year for exclusive, relying on multiplatfom is what you rely on even though none of them have the quality of the PS3 first party games

  58. CarlB:

Yes, and IGN and Digital Foundry clearly stated both had their strengths and weaknesses. One said it was a draw and the other gave it to 360. I never said it was “game breaking”, and both versions still received good reviews.

  59. Roca.:

he was speaking from personal experience and you were just arguing for the sake of arguing.

  60. CarlB:

No, I just added what he had left out from his source, then added a few other sources. I totally respect his opinion.

  61. Roca.:

his source was his personal experience then he backed it up other articles (sources)

  62. CarlB:

and he left out parts of those articles which told a different story.

  63. Roca.:

im not even going to get into it, your the one passionated about making everything 360 look better. you even argue personal opinions and you even claimed that Netflix streaming look just as good as BD…

  64. CarlB:

Believe it or not, the 360 does have some strengths and great games, along with weaknesses, as does the PS3, and I’ve recognized them both.

And I wasn’t talking about Netflix streaming, I was talking about Netflix HD streaming on a high bandwidth broadband connection on 360 (as I have). Try it sometime, if you can. I still believe BD has a slight edge in sound, but it’s nominal, please link to anything that says otherwise so I can get a frame of reference for where you are coming from, if not from personal experience.

  65. CAD:

“For example, using the High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDRL) technology, the camera – when using Krato’s sightline – will emulate the human retina, causing players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area, similar to how the human eye would need to adjust.”

Yeah I call BS too as I have already had sunlight blind me on the 360. Forza for example. There was something eles I was playing that did the same thing the other day I just can’t put my finger on what it was. But anyways leave it to Sony to cast an old experience as new. Only on Playstation my Ass.

  66. CAD:

All the new from CES and this is what we get. Come on Blorge wake up.

  67. ncaissie:

“All the new from CES and this is what we get. Come on Blorge wake up.”

I have to agree with CAD for once.

Dam, I think hell just froze over.

  68. ncaissie:

“Yeah I call BS too as I have already had sunlight blind me on the 360. Forza for example.”

I remember this also. Not sure if it was game play or a video though and not the 360 but Xbox one.

  69. Roca.:

    CARLB

Netflix Streaming is the same on both console, thats another thing you keep saying to make the 360 look better or to justified the $50 yearly price MS charge for Netflix access.

the only difference on most website comparation are
    -Menu (different on each system)
-$50 to access it on the 360
-inserting a dics on the PS3

    http://www.wingdamage.com/netflix-streaming-ps3-vs-xbox-360/

  70. Roca.:

and netflix on PS3 does HD streaming which is nowhere near BD quality and not all movies on netflix are available on HD

  71. Ivan_PSP:

I hate Netflix i don’t even know why i have it since i already have any movie i want free. I only use Netflix on my VAIO never on anything else.

If what we get now from Sony free is this awesome imagine if we pay. We will take using the PS3 for ever.

  72. twilight:

    Roca,
It’s too bad that you don’t like Bayonetta. Everyone has different opinions. I guess this is one of few times that you actually have a different opinion then the critics. I noticed that you usually agree with the critics most of the times. I actually think the critics got it right this time. I never really agree with critics most of the time. I got the Xbox360 version of the game and its really good.

  73. CarlB:

That’s great Roca, looks like they have fixed some of the issues it had since October when I last tried it, except for the disc… though maybe sometime this year they will take care of that as well.

  74. CarlB:

    November that is.

  75. harry sachz:

Speaking of streaming, I tried streaming a movie to my PS3 from my laptop last night and it was stuttering a LOT. I switched it off and started streaming to my 360 instead. That was perfect. I am assuming this is a codec issue?

  76. CarlB:

I don’t know harry, it might also have something to do with the more stable connection we have via 360 as well. Netflix stated the entire reason for the disc was to get it on PS3 as quick as possible, so it’s feasible that it is not as fully developed yet. I’m sure they will fix it eventually and it can function just as well on PS3, 360 just had a large head start for them to work all the kinks out.

  77. MisterX:

    @Harry

It could also b the 360 stream via CAT5 vs PS3 wifi

  78. oldschool1987:

@ Ghost: My PSN is oldschool1987 mate.

  79. oldschool1987:

And Carl not a dig, just somethink I just found out mate:

Darksiders is higher rated on the PS3 than 360 according to Metacritic. Only by a point or two, but you said the same about Dragon Age I think. Ps3 has no tearing and the 360 looks more colourful. Great game so far, very Zelderish.

  80. harry sachz:

    Mister X,

Possibly. I guess I should consider getting a hub/switch/router and sharing the CAT5 connection between the 2 machines, as the wireless on the PS3 has needed some ‘massaging’ to get working at an acceptable level. What’s better to get out of those 3?

  81. Ivan_PSP:

    so much xbot lies/bullshit

  82. CarlB:

No prob OS, same thing happened with DAO, although it wasn’t Gamespot that gave the differing review this time. In fact I can’t find any major website that gave either version a higher review… IGN’s the only one that gave 360 preference (in their head to head, they also mentioned the screen tearing aspect) that I can see so far… have you noticed one yet?

  83. harry sachz:

Joystiq are saying that a screen tearing patch is in the works, so that should be a non issue in a few days anyway.

  84. harry sachz:

    @ Ivan,

What exactly do I have to gain by saying that the wireless in my PS3 isn’t working as well as the CAT5 cable I have in my Xbox? I own both systems.

Maybe you’re still cut up about how I am not going to add you as a friend.

  85. Liquid:

i cant wait to play thinks this game.

apparently god of war 3 and gran turismo 5 are being released the same day in japan.

if that happened in ireland i would defo buy the two the same day

  86. twilight:

So the Xbox360 version of Darksiders has screen tearing and is more colorful then the Ps3 version but the Ps3 version doesn’t have screen tearing but is less colorful. Which version controls better?

  87. oldschool1987:

@ Carl: nah, no screan tearing my end, but the screan tearing was Xbox only, It’s getting patched though I read so it’ll be the same except Xbox will have the prettier colors lol.

Bayonetta (PS3) is meant to get a patch I think (hope) otherwise I won’t buy it lol.

  88. oldschool1987:

@ Twilight: I think the only difference is the looks, everything else is the same.

  89. SW:

@Harry – It will depend on your current network setup.

Presuming you already have a router (as you have a pc and an xbox, i am guessing you do) then you can just get a switch. Unless you have some free ports on your router already of course :)

  90. twilight:

Okay, Oldschool. I was just trying to decide what system I should get this game on.

  91. harry sachz:

    @ SW,

Thanks for that. The way my place is set up is that I have my adsl router in the kitchen, and 2 cat5 cables going into plugs in the wall. One of those plugs ends up in my study, the other ends up behind the TV. That one I am currently connecting straight to the xbox.

What I am thinking is to get a switch, sit it behind the TV, get a short CAT5 cable to attach to the switch, and then get 2 more cat 5 cables, one to attach to the xbox, one to attach to the PS3.

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to networking etc, but will the switch change my IP range? I.e, i am on 192.168.1.x, will the switch give anything that connects to it a 10.10.x.x etc type of address? Or does it just use the IP pool from the router?

  92. Spideydog:

    @ Harry

I stream shit loads of stuff to my ps3 via wireless and have had no issues at all.

You seem to have quite a few issues with network settings and a such ??? Which is strange cause mine was just enter my network details and then plug and play. Oh and all my devices work over a wireless network router too.

On another note, I will be visiting home in less than a couple of weeks, so we can have go of co-op UC2 ;)

  93. SW:

@ Harry – You’ll keep the 192 addresses. The switch is pretty much invisible as far as you’re concerned.

  94. harry sachz:

    @ SW,

    Excellent, that’s what I want.

    @ Spidey,

For sure! I’ll scab my brother in law’s copy for when you are back. I think the issue is with Linksys and the PS3 wireless, i’ve seen a few complaints about these two systems on Google. I think hardwiring it is the best option.

  95. Ghost:

    @Harry
I use a netgear wireless N router/ built in modem combo. It works great meaning I have not had any problems with it and my ps3. Very easy set up with a push and connect option. It also has four connects on the back. Maybe you should replace your Linksys and upgrade to one like mine? I think I got it for about $100 US but it was worth it, you could prob find it cheaper if you shopped around? I’ve heard alot people complain about having trouble with Linksys and there PS3. There is some special way you have to manually hook them up to it.

  96. CarlB:

Harry, hardwiring was better for me, but I still have problems getting kicked off of PSN. I have a Linksys Wireless G Router that also has hardwire ports… maybe that is the problem as Ghost mentioned, but I have no problems with it and the 360.

  97. MisterX:

    @Harry
“What I am thinking is to get a switch, sit it behind the TV, get a short CAT5 cable to attach to the switch, and then get 2 more cat 5 cables, one to attach to the xbox, one to attach to the PS3.”

I think that’s the best way. Switches are sooo cheap nowadays.

  98. harry sachz:

    @ Ghost,

Yep i’ve done that, it’s sped it up quite a lot, but streaming is pretty ordinary. I have a DLINK 2740B here which I think I may swap over, but it’s pretty chunky. Maybe shelling out $15 on the switch is the way to go

  99. harry sachz:

Thanks for the advice all. Heading to Ebay now! hah

  100. Spideydog:

Mine is a belkin adsl2+ Modem and wireless router with 4 eth ports. Works a treat ;)

  101. harry sachz:

Have got a bid on, but if I get beat I might just see how I go online when I play something online, i.e if I lag or not, and leave the streaming for my 360. When I was downloading the LBP demo last week I was doing about 1 meg a second, which isn’t too shabby at all.

  102. harry sachz:

    @ robert,

Thanks for the code. It’s working. It’s downloading now.

  103. Roca.:

Harry, you need to play GoW Collection (if you havent played Gow 1 & 2) to understand what drove Kratos to do what he is doing.

**I won’t get into details because I dont want to spoil anything for those who have yet to play the game

  104. phranctoast:

He should play both games prior to the demo as well.

    @harry.
GOW collection is a very rewarding purchase. Especially at it’s dirt cheap price of $36.99.

  105. ncaissie:

I just got a Belkin Wireless N router F5D8236TT4 last night and it seems to be ok. I noticed a speed increase right away. My old router kept loosing its connection to the modem.

  106. ncaissie:

“When I was downloading the LBP demo last week I was doing about 1 meg a second, which isn’t too shabby at all.”
Really? I was just getting 7 downloading the MAG update. The game is small but the update was 1.8 Gigs. LBP is for kids anyway. Mario is way more fun then LBP.

  107. Ghost:

    @ncaissie
Yeah the N routers/modems are cool and I like mine also…but there’s no way in hell we are getting the speed increase that is advertised on the box. It’s a little faster sure but not as fast as they would have us believe.

  108. Roca.:

CarlB: “I don’t know harry, it might also have something to do with the more stable connection we have via 360 as well.”

yeah like streaming contents from your PC to your system have anything to do with that..troll

  109. JofaMang:

    @ncaissie

Austrailian broadband is quite a bit behind other 1st world regions like europe and North America, so the cultural standard regarding a “fast connection” will be different. One of my friends is operating on business fibre optic lines they rent off the office that is next door. He is used to a 100/100mbit connection, and finds my current cable connection, at 35/1 mbit completely pedestrian, even though it the highest speed consumer level internet available in my city. Perspective can shift dramatically.

Don’t forget the language used can be confusing. I can honestly say I have a 35/1 meg connection. That’s Megabits, or in translation, a 4.375/.125 MegaByte connection. If harry is talking in bytes, and you are in bits, then he is actually doing a little better than you, hah.

  110. JofaMang:

I am switching to wireless permanently as well, actually. I had the recent fortune to test out a friends new D-Link N wireless 10/100/1000 router for a few days in my house around christmas, and I found the extra latency completely acceptable compared to my current set up on both my computer and PS3. Now looking into getting one for myself, and I am excited to finally be ethernet cable free, hah.

I had an older D-Link wireless gaming router for a few weeks last summer, and it didn’t impress me like this one did. My cats will have one less way to fuck with my consumer electronics. I was replacing my Ethernet cables every few months because they just can’t resist playing with them when my wife and I are not around, apparently.

  111. CarlB:

“yeah like streaming contents from your PC to your system have anything to do with that..troll”

Roca, why are you always so uptight bro? Calm down. My 360 is hard wired as well, and I’m not “streaming” anything from my pc. Try and get some background info on the subject before you launch into your (rather hypocritical) troll blamethrower mode.

  112. Roca.:

    @ CARLB
harry said: “Speaking of streaming, I tried streaming a movie to my PS3 from my laptop last night and it was stuttering a LOT. I switched it off and started streaming to my 360 instead. That was perfect. I am assuming this is a codec issue?”

    then you answered with:
“I don’t know harry, it might also have something to do with the more stable connection we have via 360 as well”

soo yeah, explain that statement again please?? because you claimed harry was having issues streaming contents from PC to PS3 becuase the 360 have more stable connection than the PS3 and “it’s feasible that it is not as fully developed yet”

lmaoo another attempt to praise the 360

  113. ncaissie:

“Yeah the N routers/modems are cool and I like mine also…but there’s no way in hell we are getting the speed increase that is advertised on the box. It’s a little faster sure but not as fast as they would have us believe.”
I keep my PS3 wired. I haven’t tried wireless n yet but I was told if you connect a slower device to a wireless router it slows everything down. Like 80211a or b. Not sure if that’s still the case in N. If so I will keep a second router for the slower connections connected to the N router.

  114. ncaissie:

“If harry is talking in bytes, and you are in bits, then he is actually doing a little better than you, hah.” I know the difference. Thanks. I can tell by the time it took to get 1.8 gigs it was very fast, 11 minutes.

  115. ncaissie:

“harry said: “Speaking of streaming, I tried streaming a movie to my PS3 from my laptop last night and it was stuttering a LOT. I switched it off and started streaming to my 360 instead. That was perfect. I am assuming this is a codec issue?””

Try the PS3 media server. Windows media player one sucks.

  116. CarlB:

    Roca,

“lmaoo another attempt to praise the 360″

Not at all. The last time I checked Windows Media Center was so buggy it was unusable on 360. Play On is better… but I don’t really use it or stream any content from my pc on a regular basis. I thought he was talking about Netflix streaming, which is why I mentioned Netflix throughout the majority of the comment itself (please read the entire comment, not just the first sentence).

That said, I still think his problem may have something to with the PS3’s compatibility with the router/modem/isp, especially if his 360 is working fine on the same connection, and I am very interested to see if his new setup works for him. This is a problem I have constantly… I turn on the PS3 and am on PSN fine… then it signs me off… I sign back in go to different apps: games, messages, psn store, etc., and it signs me off again… it’s rather annoying, and it happens almost every time at least once every session. The 360 simply doesn’t do this when I sign in, and the setup I am using is not that out of the ordinary. I’m almost certain my PS3 will work better in Japan though ;)

  117. Roca.:

“I thought he was talking about Netflix streaming, which is why I mentioned Netflix ”

you know netflix is not available overseas. also the BD dics for Netflix on the PS3 does not have anything to do with the “connection not being fully developed” it’s because of the exclusive deal they made with MS. so instead of waiting for the deal to be over…the quickest way for PS3 user to have access to netflix is via a BD disc. but as im sure have noticed the BD disc does not even spin when using/streaming content from netflix, its all via the internet. the disc works like a door step to access the service

  118. CarlB:

Sorry roca, “streaming” just registered in my mind as Netflix streaming, and I wasn’t thinking Harry was in Australia at the time. Thanks for the catch though.

“also the BD dics for Netflix on the PS3 does not have anything to do with the ‘connection not being fully developed’”

Please quit misquoting me roca. The comment was:

“Netflix stated the entire reason for the disc was to get it on PS3 as quick as possible, so it’s feasible that it is not as fully developed yet.”

For a frame of reference, I went off this article statement:

“Again, the instant streaming disc represented the fastest and easiest way to let PS3 enthusiasts get Netflix on the PS3. Late next year we expect to have an embedded solution available for PS3s via a system software update slated for release through the PlayStation Network.”

    http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/netflix-ps3-disc-must-remain-in-system-until-2010-update/

I believe it is possible that Netflix streaming will work even better with a fully developed and embedded software solution for PS3 vice a disc “door step”, though I could be wrong. At the very least you won’t have to take your game disc out to watch Netflix streaming on your PS3.

  119. Ivan_PSP:

Windows Media Center works perfectly on Xbox 360 nothing can match it.

    CarlB:
Stop your shit against the PS3 if you hated and you think the Xbox 360 is the greatest shit in the fucking world just use that and give back the PS3. Dude you need a better propaganda. Also Netflix works perfectly fined on PS3.

  120. CarlB:

Ivan, sorry, propaganda is your game, not mine. Good to know Windows Media Center on 360 works perfectly for you, though.

  121. Ivan_PSP:

Xbots here are all using propaganda failures. aLL I write is facts. Face it Sony is the best.

  122. Roca.:

“At the very least you won’t have to take your game disc out to watch Netflix streaming on your PS3″

I have been inserting disc/cassette since the VHS days, so what makes you think it will be an issue now?

  123. CarlB:

If you justify it with the functionality of VHS, then it shouldn’t be an issue at all.

  124. Ghost:

    @Carl
Did you hear about how Netflix will not be able to distribute/send-out, New Releases early anymore?? If so what is that all about? I know it has to do with some kind of deal with Time-Warner. I only caught bits and pieces of the story thats why I am asking.

  125. CarlB:

I didn’t, but I won’t have Netflix for a couple of years… Netflix didn’t have that many new releases to speak of in the first place, beyond TV shows… do you have a link?

  126. Ghost:

It was on the News..I was walking past the t.v and only caught the last few secs of it. Oh well I figured you would know I guess I will look it up.

  127. Roca.:

will it be an issue for you to actually have to insert multiple disc when playing Lost Odissey, Final Fantasy 13, Blue Dragon, Tales of Visperia, ODST, Forza 3, Star Ocean 4 and so on?

  128. CarlB:

If I ever had to take out the game I was playing for weeks on on end every time I desired to watch something on Netflix (every day)… sure.

  129. Roca.:

well every time you want to play a game you had to insert a dics…but since you rent them. you probably leave them there until its time to send them back

  130. CarlB:

So true… which winds up being about every couple of weeks. Lost Odyssey did take a week or so longer though, but I bought it.

  131. Roca.:

well most of us do buy games and we have to insert them every time we play them and you dont see non of us complaining

  132. CarlB:

Really? I find Games on Demand and PSN store games don’t require a disc to insert. It really is quite nice to not have to bother with a disc at all.

  133. Roca.:

yeah, too bad you will be doint that alot with FF13 and Rage and many more.

im glad that is not a issue for me even if FF13 and Star Ocean 4 will be on 1 disc

  134. Roca.:

“I find Games on Demand and PSN store games don’t require a disc to insert”

but you rent games, and rental do require a disc lol

  135. CarlB:

“im glad that is not a issue for me even if FF13 and Star Ocean 4 will be on 1 disc”

So not having as many discs is a factor for you, but having to deal one extra (Netflix) is not? Lol.

“but you rent games, and rental do require a disc lol”

I also buy games, and rent them via GameTap… lol. Maybe PSN/XBL will have the ability to rent games online sometime as well. I’m certainly all for it.

  136. Roca.:

“So not having as many discs is a factor for you, but having to deal one extra (Netflix) is not? ”

what part of “m glad that is not a issue for me” didnt you understand…you are trying too hard now..

and yes you do buy games where they are in the $10 bin 2-5 years after they came out…or when they release a whole bunch of game at the same time but your rental only allows you to rent 2 games at a time

  137. CarlB:

“what part of ‘m glad that is not a issue for me’ idnt you understand… ”

Good to know you don’t have an issue with disc swapping whatsoever, I’ll remember that.

“and yes you do buy games where they are in the $10 bin 2-5 years after they came out…or when they release a whole bunch of game at the same time but your rental only allows you to rent 2 games at a time”

Sorry, but I did purchase Fallout 3, Lost Odyssey, Demon Souls, etc. brand new, and my rental service was upgraded to 3 at a time… btw, did you have some point in mentioning this?

  138. Roca.:

then why you keep trying to make it seem like inserting a disc is something new….everytime someone want to watch a BD movie they have to insert a BD disc…so the netflix argument is just dumb in my opinion. the fact the MS wants you to have a gold account, which is $50/year to have access to netflix is just stupid.

if ppl buy a 360 to make it their media center (streaming their PC content, netflix, dvds, movies on demand) then they will have to pay $50 in order to stream from netflix even though they wont be doing any gaming with the console

  139. CarlB:

I’m not trying to make it seem like something new Roca, I’m just saying the feature is nice, and I prefer not to have to deal with a disc at all when I watch Netflix as I watch it daily here. If you think it’s dumb to have that preference, well, that is your opinion. Sony must see something in it though, else why would they be working to get rid of the disc this year if nobody cared and it wasn’t a factor at all?

The Gold account (I paid $35 for mine – http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Month-Live-Gold-Card/dp/B0029LJIFG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1263231469&sr=8-1 – and I have several months free trial cards from game purchases for when I return) isn’t just for Netflix of course, and I will have neither come next month for at least a few years. I doubt the bulk of people buy their game console just to be a media streaming center and do not do “any gaming with the console”, but I could be wrong.

The fact that Sony worked with Netflix to incorporate it into PS3 for free is good, and it shows Sony recognizes it as a worthwhile service for it’s customers, just like many features it has incorporated into PSN and PS3 since it’s inception. I’m glad they continue to incorporate features XBL and 360 have already had for year(/s) at no charge, and it forces Microsoft to keep adding value for it’s existing charge.

  140. Roca.:

“I doubt the bulk of people buy their game console just to be a media streaming center”

I know ppl who bought a 360 just for netflix, I know other that have a PS3 mainly for BD movies then I know way too many friends, co-workers, friends parents what have a Wii just for workout activies

“The fact that Sony worked with Netflix to incorporate it into PS3 for free”

well netflix is not free..they charge for the Netflix membership…and I think that’s you need to pay for the service. BD player have free access to it, same goes for some HDTVs, Tivos and PS3…MS is the only Charging for it… but yet you still bow to MS and thier trend to charge for stuff thats free everywhere else

“I’m glad they continue to incorporate features XBL and 360 have already had for year(/s) at no charge, and it forces Microsoft to keep adding value for it’s existing charge.”

well online play has always been free and MS was the one who started charging for it and that is why most ppl pay for gold membership because they dont have any other options..I bet if MS made “online play free” and charges for cross game chat, party chat, friend list, game rankings etc…most 360 owner will opt for free online play and will not care about all other extra stuff

  141. CarlB:

“mainly for”… meaning they still play games on it right? Regardless, even if all they did was use it as a media center and did not play games, it’s likely they are in the minority.

“yet you still bow to MS”

Roca. Please. Stop. Microsoft has some good features, Sony does as well. It is why I own both a PS3 and a 360, and have enjoyed both.

    “I bet if MS made”

You can bet all day long and you will get nowhere. Here is the deal, I bought XBL Gold for $35 a while ago. Before PS3 had Netflix incorporated. It saved me money. Now I will go back to XBL Silver for free, and I never have cared about multiplayer online, so it is not a factor for me.

You’re talking about what if Microsoft did this or that… as if they were really having a hard time and not being able to sell their product. It’s just not true.

Sony is struggling to catch up with 360 in total hardware sales (and software sales have a much larger gap), they will be lucky to by the end of this gen, even when they are giving away what Microsoft charges for (their sales position is a likely culprit as to why they are still giving it away instead of charging for it), and they have significantly less people playing the same games online, all while Nintendo easily surpassed 360 given the same time frame.

I could definitely see Microsoft changing it’s strategy if 360 were failing in sales, but it’s not. Why is it that 360 is ahead of Sony right now in sales? Stability? A year head start (we’re going into PS3’s fourth year, and PS2 was the leader last gen by a very wide margin)? Twice as many people in key areas like America have bought a 360? Marketing? Less expensive core hardware? Continually adding features that are not on PS3 first? Popularity? Ease of programming for developers? It’s not that expensive for XBL Gold ($2.90/mo)? Faster updates, installs, patches? I don’t know, maybe a combination of all these factors.

  142. kev:

“causing players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area”

it’s called Bloom effect and has been in many other games…. nice fanboying, idiot….lmoa…

  143. Roca.:

“You can bet all day long and you will get nowhere. Here is the deal, I bought XBL Gold for $35 a while ago. Before PS3 had Netflix incorporated. It saved me money. Now I will go back to XBL Silver for free, and I never have cared about multiplayer online, so it is not a factor for me”

it might not be a factor for you…but what about those 360-only owners who also dont care for online play but wants to watch netflix?

“I could definitely see Microsoft changing it’s strategy if 360 were failing in sales”

where last year was almost a tie, MS edging out the PS3 in Global hardware sales…and this year the PS3 beat the 360 by 2M….

also Sony made more money as a Publisher than MS did this year

    “Ease of programming for developers?”

yet PS3 exclusive look better than Mulitplatform games and 360 excluisve…the 360 and its limitation its holding developers back.

“It’s not that expensive for XBL Gold ($2.90/mo)?”

yeah those 2.90/month add up, if someone have paid for live since day one, they would have already spent $200…almost another console right there

“Faster updates, installs, patches? I don’t know, maybe a combination of all these factors”

i noticed the question mark but you should check your network connection because comparation between the 2 has been almost identical when they are both wired and downloading at the same speed

  144. CarlB:

“it might not be a factor for you…but what about those 360-only owners who also dont care for online play but wants to watch netflix?”

I can only speak for myself. It is likely however that a good portion who really cared about Netflix already had Gold and Netflix before (like myself).

The question is, do they already have a PS3, and are they willing to shell out $300 (less tax) for one if not? Likely $3 a month would be easier on the wallet, but who knows? It’s a what if scenario, and their are several circumstances involved in each individual case.

I can say that if I was staying in the U.S. I would definitely consider letting my sub run out and just using my PS3, but I also enjoy having Last.FM on my console as well, and I prefer not having to deal with a disc at all (maybe this will get solved this year – by which time XBL Gold may have another feature/more perks). Likely I would give it a fair shot for a month or so, then decide from there.

“this year the PS3 beat the 360 by 2M…”

So they are still losing money on every unit sold, still millions behind in total hardware sales and 360 is still selling about twice as much software (the real money maker for console manufacturers). Hardly “failing in sales” by any means.

“also Sony made more money as a Publisher than MS did this year”

See total software sales. They can make more money as a publisher and Microsoft still makes tons more in total software sales.

“yet PS3 exclusive look better than Mulitplatform games and 360 excluisve”

2 exclusive games that look slightly better is hardly a universal win, especially when they cannot even come near to approaching sales of the top multiplat games.

“the 360 and its limitation its holding developers back.”

Apparently devs are experiencing incredible sales success with existing graphics on their multiplatform titles, and still improving them (for instance Dice). And it seems some (like Sega w/Bayonetta) are still having difficulty with what has been described as “obscure architecture”.

“if someone have paid for live since day one”

They would have enjoyed many features that didn’t come to PSN for a year, or even longer. If, if, if.

The “combination” was for every factor mentioned, not just the preceding sentence. The speed of my network is fine, and is the same for my 360 (which works fine on the same connection). The “faster” portion has more to do with stability, not network speed. If stability was fine, then they would not still be fixing “stability issues” with firmware updates years after launch. Not to mention you still have to download first, install separately, which is also slower.

  145. oldschool1987:

    ‘lmoa’

@ Kev: What’s that mean then Kev? Is it some sort of Xbot fanboy language?

  146. Roca.:

“2 exclusive games that look slightly better is hardly a universal win”

actually it is more then 2 games?
-Ratchet & Clank = best looking pixar animated game)
-Killzone 2 = Best looking FPS
-Wipeout HD = Best looking futuristic racing game/ best looking downloable game
-Uncharted 2 = Best looking game this gen so far/ best looking 3rd-PS
    -LittleBigPlanet = Best looking platformer
-GT5p = Best looking racing game
-Motorstorm = best looking off-road racing game
-MLB The Show = Best looking Baseball game
-Metal Gear Solid 4 = Best looking tactical game
-God of War 3 Demo = Best looking demo

and then we have the games that haven’t even come out but they have all been critically recognize for their graphics:

    -Final Fantasy Versus 13
    -God of War 3
    -Heavy Rain
    -Last Gardian
    -Gran Turismo 5

  147. CarlB:

    “best looking pixar animated game…”

    lol… reaching a bit aren’t we?

Nice opinions btw. Bayonetta is the best reviewed game of 2010 btw, and it looks shite on PS3 compared to 360.

“and then we have the games that haven’t even come out”

    too true.

  148. CarlB:

Even granting a boon to all 10 games you mention it still is hardly a universal win considering the 300+ well reviewed titles on 360.

Bayonetta is brilliant btw, highly recommend it.

  149. oldschool1987:

I’ll have to sample it :) Is there any unnecessary nudity by our heroine? lol

  150. CarlB:

    Nope ;)

  151. Roca.:

    CarlB

you said: ” exclusive games that look slightly better is hardly a universal win”

I prove you wrong..now if you can find me a game on the 360 that lookst better than the ones I mentioned they you might have had a argument. but the fact is the PS3 have the best looking games in all genres

  152. Roca.:

    they = then

  153. CarlB:

    “I prove you wrong…”

And how exactly did you “prove me wrong”? Because you said so? Please. My point is they can look slightly better, and even granting your OPINION, it is still only 10 games that look slightly better out of hundreds of great games, and it is also not a “universal win” considering how far behind Sony is in actual software sales years after the PS3 has launched.

  154. Roca.:

10 games…I can keep going there are many more titles that look good but they just arent that good of a game (e.i Lair, Sony’s NBA game, Heaveny Sword which is a awesome game but really short and many more.)

I proved you wrong because said there are only 2 game that look better but the fact is the almost every PS3 exclusive look better then anything else this Gen.

  155. CarlB:

And it doesn’t matter when the latest (as in this year – 2010) top games like Bayonetta still look a ton better on 360.

  156. phranctoast:

Wasn’t there a tearing issue with the 360 Darksiders version that wasn’t evident of the PS3 version?

What it all comes down to is the development and CarlB loves to continue to bring up the bad port over and over to make his point. You do realize that Bayonetta was the exception and not the rule?

  157. Roca.:

GoW Collection is a lot better…too bad is not available for the 360. so 360-only better be glad Bayonetta exist

CarlB – “And it doesn’t matter when the latest (as in this year – 2010) top games like Bayonetta still look a ton better on 360″

the game look about the same on both console and they graphics sucks on both…it plays smoother on the 360, the PS3 have load times (nothing new since the PS1 days) and frame rate issues. Still Heavenly Sword, a 2007, still look better.

and the PS3 is not only about graphics. it has brought a ton of innovations to the gaming market.

Warhawk – online only game, where you can batter using tanks, jets, jeeps, turrets, jet packs, air carriers, a shield force granade and more.

Resistance 1 – Launch title featured the largest online game with 40 players

LBP – 4-player (offline/online) co-op game where you can create, share and play your own levels

Motorstrom – off-road racing game featuring more than 8 different types of vehicles and non-linear paths

Resistance 2 – the second game brought the largest co-op online and multiplayer online gameplay with 8-players co-op and 60 player online MP mode.

Uncharted 2 – Best graphical game this gen featuring a action movie type of experience with a great story line and a outstanding vioce over work. besides the great SP canpaign there is also MP mode, co-op mode and horde mode

Flower – a unique game that invented a new genre – Zen genre

Heavy Rain – Interactive drama type of game.

MAG – Largest online multiplayer game every with 256 players

White Knight Chornicles – A great single player RPG experience plus 3 great MP mode.
1- GeoNet is a social networking service available to everyone who owns WKC.
2- Georama allows you to create your own virtual “HomeTown” within the world of WKC.
3- The Subquests offer a unique set of quests for you and your party to take on in the world of WKC besides playing through the story campaign.

ModNation Racers – Mario Kart type of game where you can create, share and player your own levels. has one of the most advance customization features in gaming

  158. CarlB:

“CarlB loves to continue to bring up the bad port”

It’s still a game isn’t it? Not only that, it’s the first really great game (universal acclaim on Metacritic – for the 360 version that is) of 2010, and we are still in the same release month. You do realize Bayonetta just released here 8 days ago right? People are still bringing up Uncharted 2 from last year, it released months ago, and it is still the exception not the rule.

“the game look about the same on both console and they graphics sucks on both…”

Nope, only the PS3. On 360 it gets a 9/10 or higher on sites like IGN:

“Graphics – Bayonetta is an extremely good-looking game, both in terms of its art design and visuals.”

Eurogamer goes even further into detail in their face-off:

“Frame-rate is often running at half the speed of the 360 version and the performance impact, combined with the sheer amount of stuff going on, essentially makes the PS3 version more confusing than playable: you’re starved of visual feedback… Presumably the split 256MB pools of RAM in the PS3 caused the development team headaches in converting across a game designed for the 360, with its unified 512MB of memory. This, coupled with the use of more efficient texture-compression techniques built into the Xenos GPU, leaves the 360 build with an array of smaller-scale advantages in addition to the bigger ones. For starters, there’s general texture quality… It’s not just the texture maps that have been affected either. Specular maps are dialled back a touch, resulting in fewer shiny surfaces throughout the game. Not only that, but the PS3 game also has reductions in the quality of the normal maps, resulting in fine detail being pared down on many surfaces, or removed altogether… the fact is that performance in Bayonetta on PS3 is so disappointing that all of this stuff is actually the least of its problems, and it’s fair to say that the game moves so fast that you don’t really get time to appreciate the subtle complexities of PlatinumGames’ artwork.”

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-bayonetta-faceoff?page=2

“and the PS3 is not only about graphics.”

And the 360 is not only about graphics, it’s also brought a lot of great gameplay. You see Roca, GAMES, right? That’s really what it is about, not slightly better looking graphics in a few exclusives that could look just as good if not better on the other console with only subtle differences.

The point is the PS3 is not superior, and neither is 360. Right now though, years after PS3’s launch, what should have been a superior 1080p/60fps graphical experience on all games, from a console that launched a year later and at twice the cost, is still varying slightly below in some multiplats, and slightly higher in some exclusives. Again, not a universal win.

WKC – “great MP mode… unique set of quests”:

“the vast majority of the quests themselves are amazingly boring. It’s like Level-5 took all the grinding and metaphorical rat-punching that’s so appreciably absent from the single-player and shoved it all into a near-endless sequence of practically identical online quests.” 8/10 – Eurogamer

MAG and Heavy Rain have yet to come out. I believe they can be great games, but I’ll reserve judgment.

“Flower… invented a new genre – Zen genre”

I will totally give you that one, and even “interactive drama genre”, or 256 players online. I still only care about one thing, is it a fun single player experience? I’m fairly sure when it comes down to the “zen genre” I’d rather be playing games like Shadow Complex, Mass Effect, and Bayonetta.

ModNation Racers, I’m about as interested in this as I am JoyRide. Translation – not at all.

  159. Roca.:

a troll response on denial who think bayonetta is the best game to come out this Gen…..

“The point is the PS3 is not superior”

like or not the PS3 is Superior in the Graphics department, in first party quality software and hardware reliably.

is also superior on all the extra stuff it comes out of the box, whereas if you have a 360 you will either have to paid for it or buy it separate priced at a ridiculous price:

    -Bluray
    -Wifi
    -Online gamine
    -Netflix Access
    -built-in battery for controller
    -web browser
    -freedom of buy cheap hardware/peripheral
-the ability to to share all your DLC (game, DLCs, movies, etc) to up to 5 consoles at a time

    also

    CarlB – “WKC 8/10 – Eurogamer”

still better score then what Last remnant, infinity underscovery, Star Ocean and also better than the game u used to praise…Risen

and this is a dumb statement

CarlB “a superior 1080p/60fps graphical experience on all games”

the 2 best looking game this gen are not in native 1080p which just proved that you dont need the game to be running at 1080p for it to be the best looking one.

the few games that are really running at native 1080p dont look as good as KZ2 or U2 or any of the games I mentioned.

    like Phranc said
“CarlB loves to continue to bring up the bad port”
    specially if for trolling purposes

  160. CarlB:

“a troll response on denial who think bayonetta is the best game to come out this Gen”

LOL… I never said “this Gen” just this year, 2010. Get over it.

“like or not the PS3 is Superior in the Graphics department, in first party quality software”

I love it that it has a few great looking exclusives, it’s what I bought one for. But it’s not superior for the rest of the 95% of existing games this gen though.

    “and hardware reliably.”

True years ago, when the PS3 was also hundreds of dollars more and twice the cost of a 360. Not anymore with the new smaller, more efficient chipsets. In fact myself and Harry have had more stability issues with the Slim than the 360 since getting one.

“is also superior on all the extra stuff it comes out of the box”

Simply put, the 360 is still the least expensive core unit to play games out of the box.

“still better score then what Last remnant, infinity underscovery, Star Ocean and also better than the game u used to praise…Risen”

I never played any of those games, and I didn’t “praise” Risen, I mentioned a Risen preview and commented on a couple of pics saying it “might” be nice, big deal. The score for WKC on Eurogamer is on par with Mass Effect 1 and Lost Odyssey though, which is why I mentioned it in the first place. It sounds like a good game, not a superior one.

    “1080p games”… “this is a dumb statement”

Not mine, Sony’s. They learned from Microsoft early on that 1080p isn’t necessary for great looking games though.

Like I said, Bayonetta is the best reviewed game of 2010. We’ll talk again when you can find a better reviewed game for 2010. You may have to wait a little while longer for Gran Turismo 5 though, seeing as how it’s been pushed back from it’s “OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE” in Japan and all. ;)

  161. Roca.:

“In fact myself and Harry have had more stability issues with the Slim than the 360 since getting one”

coming from 2 360 fanboys I wouldnt expect anything less.

“Simply put, the 360 is still the least expensive core unit to play games out of the box”

out of the box you need a HHD [sorry but the 256MB wont get anywhere this gen], XBL for online game and batteries for controller…those alone will make the arcade cost more than a core PS3 ;)

as for GT5 being delay….key word “in Japan”
im I be playing FF13 and GoW3 in march so its not a big deal when you have Sony putting AAA exclusive every single month

” it’s not superior for the rest of the 95% of existing games this gen though”

the other 95% of the existing games are multiplatform available on the PS3 as well.

    “Not mine, Sony’s”
you said superiority for you is based on 108p/60fps not Sony. but Sony have proved they can put out the best looking games at a lower res

  162. CarlB:

    “coming from 2 360 fanboys”

Trying to talk with or explain valid problems with the PS3 to a PBot is useless.

“sorry but the 256MB wont get anywhere this gen”

Sorry but the 360 has 512MB on board memory now, your going with outdated information as usual. Maybe you won’t get anywhere this gen with that much on a PS3 because a ton of games on it have mandatary HDD install, but not on 360, as you can play almost all 800+ games in it’s library right off the disc. ;)

I totally give credit to Sony for having to give away online multiplayer when Microsoft is able to charge for it. The batteries built into the controller thing, well it has it’s ups and downs. The battery will eventually run down, at which time the rechargeable (and interchangeable) battery packs available for the 360 controllers are less expensive to replace.

“Sony putting AAA exclusive every single month”

Oh? This should be good. Just for future record, define the term a “AAA”. I’d define it as any game that scores 90 or above on Metacritic, but you may have a different opinion. “EVERY single month”… I’ll remember that, and look forward to it, considering I own one.

“Sony have proved they can” have a universally acclaimed game come out for their console in 2010 and make it look and play incredibly inferior in comparison to the competition’s version years after the PS3’s launch. So much for “future proof”. Still looking forward to God of War III though… I hope it doesn’t get delayed as well. ;)

Like I said before, UC3 will get standing ovations at E3 this year when it is shown.

  165. oldschool1987:

I just watched that video for the 1st time Roca, fucking hilarious! His chorus dance is class :p
