Nintendo CEO backpedals DS 2 comments

January 13, 2010

Nintendo CEO backpedals DS 2 comments Rumors of a new DS in the works came to a head recently when the CEO of Nintendo was quoted by a newspaper indicating that there is some truth to the speculations. However, today the CEO is backpedaling by indicating otherwise.

In my 2010 predictions story the other day, I indicated that all of the video game industry analysts have predicted that a new Nintendo platform, namely the DS 2 will be hitting this year. It seems like there maybe some merit to these rumors as Satoru Iwata, CEO of Nintendo allegedly confirmed the DS  2 in an interview recently.

According to Kotaku, today Iwata is clearly denying that he talked about the next iteration of the DS. He states that the newspaper misinterpreted his answer to the question. This isn’t the first time where a CEO ended up backpedaling because they didn’t receive the internal memo indicating that the announcement is still top secret.

Yes, probably not wise at all to talk about the next iteration when the original is already curb stomping the PSP on a regular basis and doesn’t seem to have any signs of letting up.

“Since the DSi XL is due out sometime this quarter (supposedly), it seems unlikely that we’ll see an official announcement anytime soon, let alone a release. But, perhaps this will be a stocking stuffer for Christmas in 2012.”

The DS 2 is gonna suck as bad as DS now. PSP is the real handheld gaming console. Where else can you can
    games like…

    Daxter
God of War: Chains of Olympus
SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo
SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2
    Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
    Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
    Resistance Retribution
Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier

    Plus many more.

Im thinking about getting rid of my DS, its been collecting dust since FF4.

the new DS needs to have a HD screen.

  4. Barnabe Jones:

Roca, me too! I beat Mario and then FF IV, and haven’t touched it since. I at least want to play the Zelda games before I get rid of it.

Anyway… Don’t they release a new DS every few months?

  5. Roca.:

as much as I like the Zelda games…the DS version just doesnt work for me because its a stylus-only game

  6. Ivan_PSP:

Trash it. DS is a waste of money like the Wii. PSP is the ultimate handheld gaming/movie and video/music/photo/web browsing/ remote play/phone/ hd console. I use Skype on PSP for international calls like to Japan or China gamers.

  7. Barnabe Jones:

I haven’t played either yet, so IDK yet. They at least look pretty good.

  8. Ivan_PSP:

EA might be getting a new CEO. I hope Sony just buy the whole company soon if not at least Nintendo.

  9. CarlB:

Ivan, I think not losing money on their hardware may be a priority for them right now, let alone increasing sales of the software they already sell.

  10. Ivan_PSP:

EA’s CEO is on the hot seat the company has just been losing money LMFAO no profit for them. That CEO is moron happy that he might get fire soon.

  11. ncaissie:

    They can fuck off!

I just spent $650 on three DSi’s and 3 Games for Christmas!
And my kids already had DS’s.
No way will I be buying DSi XL or DS 2 any time soon.

I’m done detoxing off the morphine. That is one week I never want to relive.
I think I’ll live with the back pain and try building muscle instead of pain killers.

Just in case anyone missed me and wondered where I went LOL.

Aside from the games, my iPhone does all of those things better. As well as my Ipod Touch.

    iPhone sucks for games.

    “iPhone sucks for games.”

The latest issue of Game Informer:

    “Top Ten IPhone Games:

    1. Field Runners: …Tower defense rules on the iPhone… With gameplay so solid and reliable, it’s easy to see how hours can go by so quickly.
    2. Oregon Trail: The iPhone version may be the best edition of Oregon Trail ever. Hilarious characters and greatly expanded gameplay makes this a must-have.
    3. Wild West Pinball: plays better than almost every other pinball video game out there and even features global leaderboards. This game is one of those titles that has us saying: ‘Just one more game’
    4. Geo-Defense: may look like a visual brother to Geometry Wars, but the gameplay couldn’t be more different. The hyper-hectic gameplay and tough-yet-addictive difficulty actually works in it’s favor.
    5. Civilization Revolution: Literally everything from the console gem makes the port over to the smaller iPhone version. While the graphics have been changed to fit the small screen, the gameplay isn’t missing a thing.
    6. Rolando 2: ngmoco strikes gold with a bright, colorful game that mixes the humor of games like Katamari with its original and addictive gameplay.
    7. Tiger Woods Golf: The gameplay fits like a golf glove.
    8. Zenonia: this gem instantly took us back to the golden years of 16-bit games… the age old formula can still be fun generations later.
    9. Peggle: …too busy having a total blast playing it.
    10. Sims 3: almost as much detail as it’s PC counterpart. We were blown away with the level of complexity in the overall gameplay and management tools.”

  15. ncaissie:

    Thanks Carl
I have 3, 5 and 7. They are the exception to the rule.
I figured the Sims was a dumb’d down version and never really liked them anyway.
    I’ll look into the others.

  16. CarlB:

No problem. I’ve downloaded most of them for travelling to Japan and some likely downtime before I get my TV over there (maybe a day or two before I raid the PX ;) )

  17. CarlB:

Also downloaded Underworlds, Inotia 2, Ravensword, and Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manner. The first three were rated the best rpg’s of 2009 on iPhone by toucharcade and the last was rated GotY by them:

  18. CarlB:

Also Chinatown Wars is out on iPhone… $9.99 (half the price of the DS version and a third of the PSP version)… IGN gave it a 9.0 out 10 (Outstanding).
