Mass Q1 exodus: Gran Turismo 5, Splinter Cell, Lost Planet 2 and more
Things are always interesting when it comes to the video game industry release calendar. In 2008 media outlets all across the globe criticized the publishers for squeezing all of the games into the holiday season. In a twist of fate it looks like Q1 is turning into another hot mess.
Video game publishers vacated many of their games from holiday season 2009 to get out of dodge from the 800-pound gorilla called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. These games ended up in Q1 of 2010 where they started piling up once again. To make matters worse there is another 800-pound gorilla called God of War III sitting in Q1 as well.
News came out during CES that Sony will be moving the highly anticipated Gran Turismo 5 out of Q1, citing “production-related matters†or “marketing decisions.†On the heel of that news, Ubisoft announced that Splinter Cell Conviction will be delayed as well, pushing out of Q1. While, Ruse may be potentially pushed out of 2010 altogether along with I Am Alive.
Capcom also recently announced that three of the publishers big Q1 titles will be pushed out into later this year which are Lost Planet 2, Super Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter Tri. Activision is also looking to delay Singularity from Q1 to June time frame.
It’s unfortunate that two of my most anticipated titles, Gran Turismo 5 and Splinter Cell Conviction, have been delayed. With this being Gran Turismo 5’s first official delay and Conviction’s second delay. Incidentally both games have been in development for quite a long time, with Splinter Cell Conviction probably taking the cake with it being in development hell since 2005 along with one false launch in 2007. I am sure that the delay in Splinter Cell Conviction and Gran Turismo 5 will be worth it and easier on the wallet.

” I am sure that the delay in Splinter Cell Conviction and Gran Turismo 5 will be worth it and easier on the wallet.”
Well Mike I am glad you are so optimistic about it.
January 15th, 2010
Gives me time to play Mass Effect 2 more thoroughly.
January 15th, 2010
Gran Turismo 5 does affect me and Splinter Cell: Conviction never got my attention it might end up multi console or cancel as for GT5 s coming soon.
Sony has more then enough to destroy the wannabes a million times.
MAG
White Knight Chronicles
Heavy rain
God of War III
And many more.
January 15th, 2010
Unfortunately for GT5 anyways I think they messed up. This game has been hyped up so much and for so so so long that it will have to be damn near perfect in every way. If not then every rabid infested pro X-box reviewer from around the world will be wating to slam this game and all the slavering x-bots will be baaing in chorus. Not to mention all the pissed off PS3 owners like me who thinks 5 to 6 years is long enough to make and release a kick ass GT game. If they are REALLY pushing the date back because of all the other top games and don’t want to compete with there own studios then I understand. But if they are not releasing it because they don’t have there shit together and are trying to fix or add to all the new stuff they crammed into it at the last minute then I understand to. In other words hurry the fu*k up saki saki…:D
January 15th, 2010
Is a fucking racing game for god sakes i don’t know why gamers worship Gran Turismo series. I know the game has always exceeded perfection but still a little weird. No matter what people would buy anything especially this game.
January 15th, 2010
Ivan I don’t “worship GT series” lol. I’ll just be glad when they finally release it thats all. But with GOW3, HeavyRain, WKC, and AVP, I will be content for awhile. I am also waiting for CastleVania LoS. Sony really does have a great line up this year.

“To make matters worse there is another 800-pound gorilla called God of War III sitting in Q1 as well.”
Sorry Mike but the only 800-Pound Gorilla can only be a Multiplatform Game or A First Party Wii/DS Title, After that would be a Microsoft Exclusive. As good as Gods of War 3 is it will do very well. I say 5 Million sales.
January 15th, 2010
Well based on VG Chartz I will change that figure to 6 Million to 5 Million sales.
January 15th, 2010
Ghost:
I never say you did but many do. I own 6 original copies of Gran Turismo plus a pirated copy of Gran Turismo 2 and a original copy of Gran Turismo 3: A Spec all i own Gran Turismo 4 original copy. Also i might download legally the PSP version i don’t know why legally LoL.
CAD:
I know i usually don’t respond to you but this time i needed to make this exception. But wow that’s a big fucking number too big i think. I already secured my God of War Ultimate Edition bundle from Amazon. Multi-plaform usually sucks.
January 15th, 2010
I want to know a date for Last Gardian, Agent and Resisntace 3
January 15th, 2010
@CAD
I think you may be being too optimistic. Neither previous titles sold more than 4 million each with a larger install base but who knows. Anything is possible.
January 15th, 2010
“I want to know a date for Last Gardian, Agent and Resisntace 3″
I want to at least see a video.
January 15th, 2010
I don’t like the fact that Grand Turismo has been delayed. All I can say is that they need to get this game out. I guess we can thank the competition Forza for this. Sony has gone back to the drawing board yet again to try to add more stuff.
January 15th, 2010
Between White Knight, GoW3, Heavy Rain, and FF XIII, I’m glad they pushed it back. I probably would have ended up missing it due to the competition.
They should give GT5 its own month. Let it have some breathing room. Somewhere around September should be good.
Also.. I think The Last Guardian will be a holiday release. Resistance 3 will most likely be next year. IDK about Agent.
January 15th, 2010
GT5 being delayed is a bit crap. I do feel sorry for you ps3 owners. More so now its been delayed.
I have to admit, if I thought is was a good investment, I may have been ever so slightly tempted to get a ps3 for the blu ray and GT5. Beyond that nothing else really.
I know obviously god of war 3 is going to totally kill off the 360 and Wii (just like Uncharted 2, LBP, Resistance 2, MGS etc…) but I have played GOW 2 and it was ok. Y’know. Just ok.
January 15th, 2010
im pretty sure the delays were a strategic move on Sony and MS/Ubisoft (SC:C)
- GT5 conflicinting with many their own first party exclusives
- SC:C being too close to FF13, im pretty sure MS will want to capitalized on both (FF13 and SC:C) titles without having them to conflic with one another
January 15th, 2010
Hey, I’d rather they held the games back a little while longer than seeing them rush them out, and being flawed as fuck.
January 15th, 2010
The GT5 delayed has never and will never ever affect me in anyway. Not even most PS3 owners we got so many games from Sony is amazing.
Roca.:
The Ubisoft delay was not a strategic one it was a development one. Is obvious the game is a mess another Too Human coming up. Also the game is destine for PS3 also since all Splinter Cell are multiplaforms.
Sony needs to release a new exclusive every month not two every month like next month that’s a bad thing for them.
ViRuS:
All they can do now is tune up the game since the game was finish or almost already. So they wouldn’t have been a flaw.
Resistance 3
Killzone 3
inFAMOUS 2
UNCHARTED 3
White Knight Chronicles 2
AGENT
Most likely coming any time in 2011
Andrew_DS:
We all know if you had the money you will get a PS3 in a heart bit it will happen soon hopefully. There’s so many PS3 exclusives that can keep GT5′s ass like Heavy Rain God of War III UNCHARTED series and many more. Is just racing for god sakes the best racing but still.
January 15th, 2010
Roca,
I’m sure you are probably right about the reason Sony is delaying the game but I would like to see this game come out soon.
Ivan,
Grand Turismo was one of the main reasons that I got the Ps3 system. I wanted to play this as well as God of War. You are correct that Ps3 has many titles. It’s just that this is a big title for many Ps3 owners.
January 15th, 2010
as long as we get a better quality game I have no problem with games being delay
for example,
FF13 was in development during the PS2 era, shown for the first time at E3 2006 few months before the PS3 was released. the game was supposed to be a 2007 title for the PS3, then it got delay to 2008. then in 2008 the game went multiplatform [E3 2008 annoucement] causing another delay. now 2 years later [after the E3 2008 annoucement] then game is finally being release
but here we are complaining about GT5 delay (which is a couple of months delay].
January 15th, 2010
wow…just from reading the ps3 fanboys here’s the conclusion:
1. any ps3 game delay is because of marketting strategy (ignoring the ps3 needs every title it can get on the market) while the 360 games are because of dev problems.
2. GT5′s delay isn’t developer problems even though this is what sony themselves said.
that’s some really nice fanboying there, ladies…lmao..
January 15th, 2010
roca – “but here we are complaining about GT5 delay (which is a couple of months delay].”
actually, sony said the delay was indefinite…not a “couple of months”..
keep up the great job, fanboy…
January 15th, 2010
I Just noticed Singularity on that list of delayed games. Polish it up. The game looks like it has a cool concept so far.
Did anyone else not really enjoy the Lost Planet 2 demo?
January 15th, 2010
Oooo Oooo!
Kev called you all ladies!!!
Bwahahaha.
Its like being 16 again
January 15th, 2010
Whoa, if this is true, then we may actually have a very slight chance of seeing something other than gimmick games on Natal:
“We have something like 70 percent or 80 percent of the publishers in the world already doing Natal-based games”
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/26771/Microsoft_70_To_80_Percent_Of_Publishers_Doing_Natal_Games.php
January 15th, 2010
I noticed that too.
When i saw that and also saw the travelers tales producer talking about the lag I figured these developers have a finished product for their dev kit.
That might not bode to well for natal.
Maybe they can iron it all out with the CPU.
Speaking of the CPU, if 15-30% is being utilized by natal, it makes you wonder at the type of games natal can expect.
January 15th, 2010
well its 4pm….im off this
long weekend for me
enjoy your day fellas
January 15th, 2010
Happy Martin Luther King Day
January 15th, 2010
“if 15-30% is being utilized by natal, it makes you wonder at the type of games natal can expect”
Good point. Considering the differences between 1st and 2nd titles this gen (AC1 vs 2, Condemned 1 vs 2, Gears of War 1 vs 2 etc.) then they may be more on par with what we saw on 360 within it’s first two years (’07 titles like Halo 3, The Orange Box, and Modern Warfare), vice it’s second two. This isn’t entirely bad at all, but far from ideal.
January 15th, 2010
For NATAL we still need to see the product working on finished game. Also you would need talented people to achieve any quality.
“with what we saw on 360 within it’s first two years (’07 titles like Halo 3, The Orange Box, and Modern Warfare), vice it’s second two. This isn’t entirely bad at all, but far from ideal.” Why include Halo 3 besides being for the exclusivity LoL.
NATAL better work or Microsoft will begin a mass suicide special shareholders LoL. I think won’t bother with crappy motion shit i hate it. I hate sometimes using the SisAxix for some stuff.
January 15th, 2010
“Why include Halo 3 besides being for the exclusivity LoL.”
Easy. That’s because it was in the top 5 rated games for 2007 on MetaCritic.
January 15th, 2010
Okay…
“Hey guys, guess what? I just received a tip from an anonymous source claiming Sony’s upcoming online shooter, MAG, is able to support 256 players per game! Isn’t that amazing?! What? You already knew that? Oh, okay. Well fortunately, I’ve got some additional news I know you’ll be interested in.
As if you didn’t already have enough reasons to play MAG over and over again, we present you with thirty-one more. Keep in mind that the exact amount of medals as well as the amount of times each task must be performed remains unclear as a final list has yet to be released. However, we’ve provided you with a tentative list of available medals that players will be awarded upon completion of specific tasks.”

Okay…
“for all the myriad improvements that make Mass Effect 2′s visuals so appealing and its combat so exhilarating, it’s ultimately the way it moves us that makes it so memorable. Enveloping universe filled with interesting characters and revealing side stories.
Outstanding, flexible combat in gorgeous environments. Mass Effect 2 was awarded with Editor’s Choise 90% in comparison to an 89% they gave to Mass Effect 1. The Magazine Concluded that ‘Where Mass Effect 2 completely won me over was in the amazing climactc mission, easily one of the best game endings i’ve played in recent years.’
9.5 / 10 ”

January 16th, 2010
Mass Effect 1 was great. Still need to complete it, I was trying to bang the blue chick lol.
January 16th, 2010
Why is it harder in videogames than in real life? lol.
January 16th, 2010
Because women ain’t allowed to be depicted as they really are: Sluts lol.
January 16th, 2010
“Earth Girls Are Easy”…
January 16th, 2010
So its GT5 versus Halo:Reach then
Racing Cars versus Spartans…
January 16th, 2010
gunstar:
Racing vs a FPS doesn’t work well.
January 16th, 2010
Too true. Whether it’s in reviews or in sales, when it comes down to the best of each genre, FPS usually wins by a longshot.
January 17th, 2010
Third Person Adventure is the best after FPS.
January 17th, 2010
I’m getting really bored of FPS, every game now is FPS it’s irritating! I like a good 3rd person adventure game like Zelda, Uncharted, Prince of Persia, MGS, FF and Darksiders is in that list now, really impressed with that game.
Just found out that I Am Alive is a FPS, I was looking forward to that as well. I just wait and see.
January 17th, 2010
“Darksiders is in that list now, really impressed with that game.”
If you like Darksiders you’re going to love Bayonetta.
January 17th, 2010
Bayonetta seems more like Devil My Cry than Darksiders which is like Zelda. I like the whole open world, dungeon, puzzle solving shit.
But I know I’ll love Bayonetta, I’m just waiting for the PS3 ‘Super-Patch’ that’s coming. I like Trophies, Achievements are just shit I think.

January 17th, 2010
WTF!!! Sorry about that lol
January 17th, 2010
Good luck with that… I hear the PS3 just can’t do the same things that are already on the 360 version without the serious performance hits it already has.
January 17th, 2010
Maybe. Shame as well, the game could of been 10x better if it was developed on the PS3 instead of a lazy import.
January 18th, 2010
“could of been”… should of been, would of been… still better on 360. Rock on Sega.
January 18th, 2010
It’s ok I’ll just play Uncharted which is better lol.
January 18th, 2010
“It’s ok I’ll just play Uncharted which is better lol”
or GoW collection
January 18th, 2010
Played ‘em both. Last year. lol.
January 18th, 2010
Last year was a few days ago lol.
January 18th, 2010
Sorry… October/November ’09. Months ago, but still last year… lol.
January 20th, 2010
they are still better…..
January 20th, 2010
When/if you ever play Bayonetta on 360 you can give a valid opinion on the actual full game. And 360′s Bayonetta is still the best of 2010.
January 20th, 2010
all 21 days of it.
January 20th, 2010
and counting.
January 21st, 2010
Well don’t worry Carl we have GOW3 soon and Heavy Rain very, very soon.
January 21st, 2010
WE certainly will… if they don’t get delayed
January 21st, 2010
Same can be said about any game on any system. You act like it’s only Sony.
January 21st, 2010
Not at all, SC and Alan Wake are just as bad.
