Modern Warfare 2 vs Avatar: dollar for dollar
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is said to be the biggest grossing entertainment title to date. That is until the release of Avatar, which knocked it off the top from a revenue perspective.
It’s difficult doing a comparison between different entertainment mediums. However, Business Management [via Kotaku] listed out the breakdown between Avatar (film) and Modern Warfare 2 in order to see how they stack up.
Despite the fact that on average a movie ticket to watch Avatar costs only $7.20 compared to MW2’s $60, the movie managed to earn $1.37 billion While MW2 earned approximately $1 billion. This is another quantitative parameter that should be considered – total number of consumers.
The production budget for Avatar was $230 million, which is significantly higher than MW2’s $50 million budget. However, interestingly enough MW2 had a larger marketing/advertisement budget of $200 million compared to Avatar’s $150 million.
The net profit to date for Avatar is $990 million compared to MW2’s $750 million. Avatar wins out with a nice hefty $240 million lead. However, this lead should actually be greater when you consider the fact that video games have more hands dipping into the pie from production to publisher and studios. Also, in addition, Avatar will make hand over fist when the DVD and Blu-ray versions hit the stores later this year.

Wouldn’t Wii Fit have a higher total revenue? It sells for a higher price and has sold more copies than MW2 on 360 and PS3 combined.
Confusing.

Avatar will score big on the DVD and blu ray release and COD franchise will score big next year when they release another one.
A sequel to Avatar probably can’t be expected for at least 5 years.

Mr. Camereon wants a sequel. I decide not to watch the movie and deleted to add the new 24 episodes i will re-download it later from TORRENTZ.

hey phranc I got a few question about R+C
where do I go to complete the mission “visit the fangoid village in past (or something like)”
how can I get the challenge mode trophy. I thought the challenges were the battleship tournaments but I completed them all…do you have any idea how to get this trophy?

“where do I go to complete the mission “visit the fangoid village in past (or something like)â€
Thats almost an automatic trophy as you have to do it anyway to grow the vines

challenge mode is another playthrough of the game. It’s an entirely new mode where the less you get hit, the more coins you can potentially earn. I think…..

I already did that…the only thing left for me to do is beat the General Lombax, get 3 more gold bolts.
every single Galaxy is 100% complete [every planet and moon says "complete"]
but in the “mission” section there is 1 mission left to do…it says visit the “fangoid village” in the past

so they are going to make me beat the game again for the challenge mode? I hate when they do that!!
overall this is of my favorite PS3 game…this series is way underated. it took me 20+ hours to get to the final boss. the game features 17 differents weapons and they are all awesome

I’m struggling on the gold bolts in the clock.
challenge mode , you keep all your stuff but enemies are that much harder. it’s a gold bolt for a reason.

I just need to complete the 4th section in the Great Clock…those puzzles are pretty tough though. I barely finish them with like 0.30 secs remaing
so I get to keep everything huh..I’will be flying though it with Mr. Zerckon and the Rhino V

I really enjoy this post I have been wondering exact numbers, my only one argument about Avatar winning is what about the Xbox consoles that were made Call of Cuty specials. Also I am not sure if Infinity Ward receives any kind of residuals from Xbox live but I have friends that only play Call of Duty online and at any given time there are over 500,000+ people logged on at all times. If you were to take all of those subsciptions and multiply them by $5.00 (yearly subscription cost)That alone is $2,500,000 montly, I know that these numbers are estimated and it might not make up the differance but I think that its just something to look at.
