Is the PS3 finally hacked? Not quite yet
Most of the game consoles out on the market today have been hacked except for the PS3. Hackers have been targeting the system for quite some time with little luck. However, it seems like someone may be one step closer.
Piracy has been a big problem in the video game industry for quite some time now. The PS2 has been hacked thoroughly along with the PSP. The Xbox 360 and Wii have also been hacked this generation. It’s sickening to think that Xbox 360 images of Mass Effect 2 are floating around on bittorrent sites currently before it’s even released.
According to Gizmodo [via Kotaku], the same hacker that discovered how to jailbreak iPhones is claiming that he was able to get one step closer to hacking the PS3. Apparently, he was able to gain access to the PS3’s memory. He still has a ton of code to paddle through to see if it can even be reverse engineered.
However, to Sony’s credit he does state, “3 years, 2 months, 11 days … that’s a pretty secure system.†Sony has really developed a console that is very secure. With any luck, Sony should be able to get ahead of the hackers by releasing a firmware update to patch any holes.

I don’t believe this until i have my PS3 hacked i don’t care about his previous history. I think is a huge lie but hopefully is not. Most likely Sony already read this and will patch it ASAP.
I love piracy but i don’t know where i stand here. I don’t really want the PS3 hack and i also i wanna hack. I have a miss dilemma but if everything is like PSP I’ll love it.

Great to see that Sony is ahead of the game. I can’t say that I care for piracy–it’s stealing.
I don’t mind pirates so much as I do whatever idiots create and send viruses. I don’t see the gain in trying to delete some random person’s data. Somebody help me out here…

The PS3 will hacked, no doubt about it, but the 25-66gb ISO downloadss and required HDD space/expensive blank BDs/burners will keep it from being as mainstream as having a basic broadband connection and a stack of DVRs, for quite some time to come.
Not to mention the Firmware control allows for a lot more anti-piracy options than ever before.
When the dude got a Nintendo emulator to run off AVCHD it was patched out in 2 weeks, and that was the emulation of a DEAD console.

Does anyone else’s PS3 freeze up when using the internet browser? Mine locked up twice last night and I had to get up and reboot it manually. It’s probably done it about 6-7 times now during web browsing, once in the XMB and about 3 times playing inFamous.
Now if I deduct the amount of times i’ve had to get up to reboot my PS3 from the amount of times i’ve had to get up to swap discs on my 360 games then i’d have a positive remainder.
Lucky for me i’m not lazy and don’t mind getting off the couch on the odd occasion.

I don’t know if this is your problem or not but I had a friend that experienced something similar. He downloaded something with a corrupt file that was constantly effecting his Ps3 web browser.

Sounds like we may have the same issue then. How did he end up fixing it? If it’s unfixable then it’s no big deal, it’s jut a web browser, as long as it doesn’t effect my games or blu ray playback.

AGENT is only for PS3. And L.A. Noire was coming to Xbox 360 changed again.
The PS3 web broswer for works perfect for Youtube. and use to work flawlessly for Hulu. And now i mostly use for GameTrailers TV 720p videos with at least 5 tabs open never fails. I also go to Rebtube,YouPorn you name it LoL. Works fine. Sometime it freezes rarely but is not a full scale browser.

@ Harry: No idea mate, I use my PS3 browser when I can’t be arsed booting up the laptop and I’ve never had that trouble. Maybe when the next update comes out it will sort it. You tried Googling the problem? There’s always loads of Forums full of solutions. I’ve never not found my problem in a Forum. Even erectile problems… I don’t mean I’ve had a erectile problem… I MEAN, ERM… *Runs away*

One of my PS3′s froze on my nephew this weekend.
I get Home freezing when it says initializing a lot.
This was the first I seen it freeze in a game. He was playing God of War2.
After a reboot it didn’t freeze any more.

The PS3 can enter a special “Service Mode”. When it does the bottom right hand corner of the screen has a red translucent rectangle with the words “Playstation 3. Factory/Service Mode” inside of the rectangle. It is rumored that by plugging a special JIG in the USB port, the PS3 is triggered into Service Mode the next time it boots up. This special mode then accepts firmware code loaded in from the USB port, and allows reflashing the firmware chip.

I disagree. I know first hand that I buy any games I want and dl games I wouldn’t buy anyway. I even buy consol’s because they are hacked that I would not buy if it wasn’t.
Take the wii I would not have wasted money on it if it wasn’t hacked. The 360 is and I still wont buy one.

He had to swap the system out for another system. You should be able to use your Ps3 browser all day and all night if you want to. If you do exchange the system,just make sure you enable Sony’s virus protection. It is a free software from Sony that helps protect the system from a virus getting in.

@Ivan – Geohot has credibility as has released stuff for the iPhone before.
