God of War III 7-Eleven collector’s Slurpee cups

January 30, 2010

God of War III 7-Eleven collector's Slurpee cups Sony sent out a press release yesterday announcing a new marketing promotion that involves 7-Eleven and God of War III. This marketing campaign is proof that Sony is expecting huge sales from the highly anticipated title.

The last time I wrote about 7-Eleven was during Microsoft’s big Halo 3 push. Oddly enough it almost seems like Sony was reading my old story about learning from Microsoft’s marketing strategy. I talked about how the collector’s 7-Eleven Halo 3 Slurpee cups helped propel the franchise into the mainstream view.

According to the press release, starting Feb. 1 through March 31, 7-Eleven will be carrying four exclusive Kratos-themed cups. The cups will feature never-before-seen GOW artwork. There is even a GOW flavored Kratos Fury, which is a mix of blackberry and lime-flavored Slurpee.

Also, with each Slurpee purchase fans can collect codes that can be redeemed at www.Slurpee.com for free GOW stuff.

Here are the details from the press release:

      • A behind-the-scenes video, developed by Sony Computer Entertainment’s Santa Monica Studios exclusively for 7-Eleven, that takes you through the mythos and development of creating the Chimera character – the three-headed beast seen in the God of War III demo.
      • Exclusive armor for Kratos called Morpheus, which unlocks once you’ve played through God of War III
      • A dynamic theme for the PlayStation®3 system that features Kratos’ animated face. A static theme will also be available.
      • Kratos-themed wallpapers for PCs
      • God of War- or 7-Eleven-themed PlayStation®Home t-shirt’s or Slurpee-themed hoodie’s available for both males and females

GOW3 will be huge. This game should be very successful for Sony. I’m curious if Microsoft still has something left up their sleeves so to speak. Sony has an onslaught of games due out this year. Many people are starting to take notice of Sony’s exclusive titles.

  4. Rimmer:

about time that sony started doing some creative marketing and tie-ins with their games. Maybe, for once a top-notch PS3 title actually does well in sales.

Anyone know if this will be in Canada?
I got a psp today and gow chains. :)
I had two before and sold them so the wife didn’t get it lol.

  8. FahKinSuPah:

Why is it that everytime 7-Eleven does a slurpy like that they ALWAYS put lime it it?

I don’t even have any stores close enough to me so looks like I won’t be getting any cups, although I think the one in the middle is by far the coolest.

  9. Barnabe Jones:

Zoar, basically you just download it and set it to be your wallpaper. It’s a wallpaper that has moving picture.

Does that answer your question, or are you looking for a tech answer of “how”?

  10. ncaissie:

    I want the ps3 theme

  11. Roca.:

Are u planning finishing gow for psp?

  12. ncaissie:

    yes

  13. ncaissie:

I love the remote play. I can lie in bed and play my PS3 while my wife watches the TV! It’s awesome.

    @ncaissie

I downloaded the “Jak & Daxter: Lost Frontier Demo” and to my surprise it came out being the Full Game. you might want to try and do the same. nothing beats getting a game for free

  21. ncaissie:

    Cool! will do.
    Thanks

  22. JofaMang:

Is there an expiry date on the game Roca? I am going to try it, too (free game yar), just curious.

  23. JofaMang:

    “Tastes like anger”

Hahahaha @ phranc. lol irl 4 srs.

  24. Roca.:

    @jofa

note, it seems to be the full game so far, Im like 15mins in, and I can save the game and do all kinds of crap, I already completed the first mission which is usually the end of the demo.

  25. JofaMang:

The demo download is only 183mb, while the full game is 985mb. My nephew is coming by tomorrow, I’ll get him to bring his PSP-go so we can give it a shot, heh.

  26. Roca.:

must be a long ass demo then…

  27. CarlB:

    “yeah just like MGS4, Uncharted 1, Uncharted 2, Motorstorm, KZ2 and GT5:p”

It’s true, MGS4 (the top selling PS3 exclusive) did very well in sales on PS3… it even managed to get almost half the sales of Halo 3, and only fell shy of MW2 and GTAIV for PS3 by a couple of million. It might even come closer to surpassing Gears of War someday. It’s a good thing Sony is making these efforts to improve their marketing, and it can only spell more success for God of War III.
