Mass Effect 2 sells 2 million worldwide – Bioware pays off

January 30, 2010

Mass Effect 2 sells two million worldwide – Bioware pays off EA recently sent out a rather joyous email recently boasting some impressive stats about Mass Effect 2. According to the publisher Mass Effect 2 has already sold over 2 million units worldwide and it doesn’t end there.

According to EA Bioware’s epic space opera has garnered 40 perfect scores with two million units sold across the globe in about a week. The game has also graced the covers of 45 magazines around the world. Ray Muzyka also boasts that Mass Effect 2 is poised to be one of the biggest games of 2010.

With the unfortunate closure of Pandemic Studios, it seemed like it was up to Bioware to carry the burden of succeeding from the Elevation/VG Holdings buyout. EA paid $860 million for both Pandemic and Bioware during this deal. I am sure John Riccitiello is beaming about now on his somewhat wise business move. Bioware plans on announcing some more games during E3 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I am one of the 2 million lol. Amazing game

  2. phranctoast:

Is it sold 2 million or shipped 2 million to retailers?

  3. Liquid:

does anyone know how mag is doing in the sales department?

  4. Barnabe Jones:

I’m guessing they spent a lot of money on advertising. Maybe it’s because I mostly watch Adult Swim at night, but I’ve never seen so many commercials for a single game before.

    Liquid,

Check out the link below. Just sub in TT for the **.

Official numbers won’t be in for a few weeks though. Also the numbers are just for Americas pre-orders.

The interesting thing is, GOW3 is looking like it might sell around the same or more than ME2.

  5. Barnabe Jones:

Just to put it into perspective, MAG is selling well for a new game, but don’t expect 2 million. It probably won’t break 2 mill in its life time, but I don’t think anyone is expecting it to.

  6. phranctoast:

I only ask as the first one barely sold more than 2 million.

Mass Effect 2 is really awsome. I got mine friday morning and I am pretty sure that I have played itf or over 10 hours already.

While I am not going to spoil it for anyone I will throw some really vague stuff out there for anyone who is playing it as well..

Aside from the starting 3 characters I have acquire Zaeed and 3 other characters. Zaeed is by far my favorite so far. He is by far more badass than any character in the first game. I definately will have him in my party throughout the game. Also I just finished his loyalty mission last night.

Also I have cleared about 6 planets of resources, and I am currently docked at the Citadel.

Despite the whole thermal clip thing I am really loving this game. It was definately worth the money.

  8. FahKinSuPah:

Hah… I just found an interesting inconsistency in ME2… More like an oversight on Bioware’s part..

When you are doing Jacob’s loyalty mission you land on a planet that a ship crashed landed on 10 years ago.

On the island you fight off enemies who have been on the island since teh crash landing, yet they have weapons outfitted with the thermal clips, and as such they drop them.

    How is this possible?

Thermal clip tech did not become adopted until the 2 year span between ME1 and ME2, and this ship crashed a full 8 years before ME1. So baring someone else landed here and distributed the newer weapons, there is no possible way that this could have happen.

  9. Barnabe Jones:

I want to check out ME2 at some point, but I want to play through the first one before.

  10. FahKinSuPah:

have fun barnabe. both games are awsome

  11. ncaissie:

I’ll buy a used copy when it is below $30.
SP games are pointless to buy at day one. I will get to enjoy them as much or more than everyone else.
Look at GOW 1 & 2. I get to enjoy them for the first time in HD!

you need to hurry up finishing all the God of War games…March is just around the corner

  13. ncaissie:

I know. But with three kids and contract work I get very little play time.
My wife went to the GnR concert Sunday night so I had to take care of the girls myself.
And Sat I was busy playing with a BR burner. The drive is $193 and the media was 10 for $25 so defiantly worth it now. It will only get cheaper as time goes on.

  14. ncaissie:

I will still buy it and play it when I can. I have to wait a bit to pre order because I just got a PSP and the wife hates when I spend so much on games LOL.
I just say hey! At least I don’t smoke anymore or do drugs and barely drink.
Beside they just upped my MasterCard by $1,500 :)

  15. ncaissie:

I also spend a lot on RC helis and planes LOL. But no time to play :(

  16. phranctoast:

Theres evidence according to a ps3 forums post (can’t link at work) that suggests there’s source code for the PS3 version in the PC version.

Similar evidence was found in the PC version of Bioshock, even though 2K denied it up and down, due to their contract with MS. We all know how that turned out :)

Is this evidence that ME2 will find it’s way to the PS3?

    More than likely……

  17. FahKinSuPah:

Awsome game… ive put at least 30 hours into it since I got it on friday
