Sega hasn’t given up on Shenmue 3
No, I can’t quite believe it either, but that’s the news. Sega has, apparently, not yet given up on producing a third game in the Shenmue series. Wow.
I love both Shenmue games, and I loved my Dreamcast back in the day. The Shenmue games offered something new, exciting, fresh, and very different from anything else around at the time. They also popularized QTEs (Quick Timer Events) which are now used extensively and are the bane of many gamers’ existences. However, I’d still love to see Shenmue 3 just to hear the end of Ryo Hazuki’s story.
And maybe, just maybe, there’s a chance of that happening. According to PS3center, Sega recently told Famitsu magazine that Shenmue 3 is still talked about as a possibility at the company. The problem is poor sales compared to the costs of making the game. Sega assures fans that were there ever an opportunity to revisit the franchise then it could happen.
The only way I can see this happening is if Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo fund the project and make the game an exclusive for their console. Which I can’t ever see happening. In which case, maybe it’s time to let Shenmue rest in peace.

Two terms Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue contributed to popular culture were:
1. QTE
2. 4D
but yes QTE & 4D were rad back then…

whats 4D?

Real Time and Weather simulation was the 4th D. It was programmed into the game making production very expensive.

You meant 4D virtual enviroment, not just 4D itself right? Because what Motorstorm does is 4D using time and the camera effect, not just the enviroment.
Correct me if I’m misunderstanding all of that, but that’s what I remember about 4D.

Haven’t herd of it before. I’ll have to look it up at some point.
I’m still undecided on the Yakuza series. Haven’t played any of the earlier ones yet. It looks good though.

Shenmue… I miss it yet I don’t.
I still have 1 and 2 here somewhere… They were honestly very interesting games but I really don’t see how they could hold up to anything we have today.

i dont think Sega has a good dev team to actually take the pressure of making Shenmue 3

Sega’s main problems are:
-Sonic
-licensed games (Ironman)
-casual games
Valkyria Chronicles was excellent. I played the demo for Resonance of Fate and it seemed pretty good (not great, but good). Also Aliens vs Predator and
Alpha Protocol look decent.
They should do more Japanese type games, but they are too bust trying to chase the casual and western markets.

To fans of this game, I would re-direct my request of this game if you ever want to see it. With the price of production vs $50+ a unit sold they will make profit. They know that too given the many request forums and buzz all over the internet. So why they would hold off I don’t know. This is a great game but it’s not for everybody. It will never be as big as Zelda or Final Fantasy. I’ve read time and time again the project is near complete and the story is already there so why don’t they finish it and put it out? I would say cause all the buzz on the Internet. It’s even possible most of these forums are started by people from the Shenmue team. This is their marketing for the product. Years and years of waiting for people wanting to finish a story they invested their time and money into. I’ll just put it like this, I was a teenager when I started this game and now I’m 25, everyday is day closer to the day I wouldn’t possibly think about buying any video game, people do grow completly out of gaming. I’m sure alot agree. I would like to finish this game but not as much as wouldve last year. I do not support these buzz plead forums cause it’s just letting the shenmue team feel they got you on a hook and some sure sales. The talk about needing console exclusivity, I don’t buy it and if this team wants to reach new audiences, reach into your millions and market it like a normal game. Either way they’ll make profit. But I’ll leave with saying your pastime fanbase ship will crash eventually, so I think the antiapations been built enough, it’s not the end of the would for me, put it out soon or I’ll be one of the first to say, “here’s $50+ you won’t have”. I’m losing interest everyday.
