Gameinformer: L.A. Noire not a PS3 exclusive

February 6, 2010

Gameinformer: L.A. Noire not a PS3 exclusive The latest March issue of Gameinformer, which will be coming out soon, spills the beans on the mysterious L.A. Noire. The game was initially revealed eons ago with practically no detail.

Team Bondi has been working on L.A. Noire for what seems like ages. It looks like the game may finally come out this year with Gameinformer teasing a 10-page story in the latest issue of the magazine.

While promoting the latest issue, Gameinformer staff answered a question in the comments section regarding PS3 exclusivity with L.A Noire. The staff member stated that L.A. Noire was a PS3 exclusive at one time but is now multi-platform.

This may be the first indirect confirmation about the platform status of the game.  However, it’s funny to see this news coming out now as I have been thinking that the game was already confirmed to be multiplatform for quite some time now.

Sony did fund Team Bondi on this project initially. However, the speculation is that Sony pulled funding because the company was not satisfied with the progress of the game. Apparently, Rockstar and Sony worked out another exclusive deal for a game (Agent) to be developed in-studio. In turn, Sony promised not to pursue the funds already invested in L.A. Noire.

one more to cross off the “list”… lol.

    Shane Kim, take a bow.

Well at least they are being honest about this up front. No one is trying to pretend it is a PS3 exclusive and flat out lying to consumers.

*COUGH Bioshock, ME2, Splinter Cell, FallOut 3 DLC, GTA4 DLC, Star Ocean, Tales of Vesperia, etc, etc COUGH*

    Anyone have a lozenge?

  4. Roca.:

    NG2 lol

oh and Agent is still exclusive.

  5. CarlB:

Like what was exclusive one year has to stay exclusive the next for some reason? Please.

I don’t know how its physically possible to hug your PS3 with one arm/hand, spank it with the other AND type carl.

Altho, there has been less hug lately…

  7. Barnabe Jones:

According to the definition of the word, yes. There is nothing in there that mentions a time period. If they advertised them “timed exclusives” it would be a lot more accurate and misleading.

exclusively – to the exclusion of anything or anyone else; solely or entirely

I really wonder if that is false advertising? Anyone know any good lawyers?

Eurogamer: But no one’s saying, “This is a lifelong exclusive,” or, “This is a timed exclusive.” Companies just say “exclusive” and then it seems that can mean different things. It all seems a bit made up.

Ben Feder: It’s not made up; these are all relationship matters and contractual matters. When we talk about our relationships and our exclusivity for PS3 and Agent, for example, we don’t disclose anything beyond what we’ve already said.

But we think it’s important for us to be with Sony, and it’s important for Sony, I think, to be with us. The game promises to be one of the best games available because of who’s developing it, and because of the subject matter.

I suppose CarlB is the closest thing to an xbot we have around here now.

It’s hard to have a flame war when all you hear is “wow the PS3 is awesome” followed by “yeah man, it’s so awesome”.

I expect Splinter Cell Conviction to be multiplatform, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it only appeared on 360 and PC.

Ubisoft will do what makes the most sense, given the situation. Sure they may lose the money from PS3 owners, but M$ is probably throwing cash at them in an attempt to stop this being available for the sony console.

I look at the GTA 4 dlc and I kinda understand why they took M$’s cash. They are a bussiness, like any other.

Say you’re in that situation. Are you going to turn down the cash? Are you really going to decline the offer of a guarenteed windfall? Remember, this was only dlc.

Maybe the same thing is happening with Conviction, just on a larger scale.

If people think Devs should show loyalty and no bias, they really need to wake up. These guys don’t make games just for the hell of it. They do it make money. This is peoples jobs more than it is their hobby.

It’s just bussiness, they’ll base their decisions on whats right for them.

I believe Splinter Cell will be a “timed exclusive”.

There have been a few games to follow this trend, and there will be more in the future too, I think.

Every other installment has appeared on the Sony format, so for this not to be, it seems strange.

If it doesn’t come out for the PS3 though, I guess you guys can purchase it for your 360 or PC respectively. :)

    BJ,

“false advertising”? No, just not full disclosure, and not predicting the future. Sony commercials for multiplatform games only mention PS3. Sometimes they will say “only on PS3″ and then later on they will be announced on 360 as well, as was the case with MGS4 Rising (we can argue about the PSP version and which is the “true” sequel another time, you get my point though).

ME2 has code in it for PS3. Maybe the devs planned for it to be multiplatform from the start, and Microsoft bought the rights to the title, or maybe it was just an “in case”, or maybe they planned for a timed console exclusive. Nobody even knows if it is coming to PS3. At this time though, it is a console exclusive for the 360.

Now, give me an example where Sony or Microsoft say their third party game will be exclusive FOREVER guaranteed, then it later comes to the other console, well, that would be “false advertising”. Otherwise, it’s just in the best interest of Sony and Microsoft to advertise what they know at the time.

I was under the impression that we knew this wasnt a ps3 exclusive for a while now. Wasn’t that news revealed around when Agent was announced?

  13. Roca.:

yeah, Sony exchanged the money they invested in LA Noire (which was being funded by Sony at first) for the exclusivity of Agent.

  14. ncaissie:

Never heard of it so I don’t care.

  15. harry sachz:

Yeah this is old news. I heard somewhere that the game’s development (and the new Red Dead game) is a mess.
