Xbox 360 Final Fantasy XIII not HD?
Final Fantasy XIII is obviously coming to both the PS3 and Xbox 360 after Square Enix decided to spread the love from just Sony to include Microsoft. However, that doesn’t guarantee the two versions will play or look the same. And there’s now evidence that the Xbox 360 version will not be running in HD, unlike the PS3 version.
There’s been intense speculation as to how the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Final Fantasy XIII will differ from each other. But there’s been a distinct lack of facts on display.
A NeoGAF user who called himself MazingerDUDE now claims to have visual evidence that the PS3 version of the game will look superior. His analysis of recently-released screenshots of the two versions suggests that while the PS3 version will run in 720p HD, the Xbox 360 version will run in 576p SD.
This is in no way confirmed, but the screenshots do suggest as much. And if this turns out to be true then it’s a big indication that the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII will be superior.

So much attention for a game that is currently rating 86 on metacritic in regards to what version is superior. If we’re talking a Bayonetta type of difference then it’s good to be informed, however I doubt the experience is going to change much between both systems.
Love,
Harry.

I doubt it too Harry. We’ve seen it in action at E3 and it looked great. The thing is no matter what the resolution is the up-scaler in the 360 is very good and adds the resolution needed to make it pop. That why it can run 1080P with no problems. It’s not Native but it’s really good. The PS3 does not have an up-scaler so it will run at it’s set resolution.
February 19th, 2010
What are you talking about? PS3 does not have an upscaler? Upscaling is nothing more than stretching the image to fit the TV screen. Upscaling to HD just means its stretching it. You will not see more details by upscaling.
In the end, if you do not have an HDTV Xbox version is excellent. If you an HDTV, the PS3 HD resolution will look sparkling clear on it.

Those shots are from the PS3′s demo version of the game and they look better still. Should mention that in the article.
And was I just using my imagination when my PS3 upscaled stuff?

February 19th, 2010
Oh, and if you go on about game upscaler, it depends on the game itself and the developers, not the PS3. Sony changed it from not being able to do that at all into optional.
You will see this when you compare PS3′s launch games to newer ones.
Research this crap by yourself.

Meh, I shouldn’t have came off that angry there. Guess I should get away from the PC for a bit.
February 19th, 2010
CAD…you’re a fucking moron and all you do is give X360 fans a bad fucking name.
February 19th, 2010
@CAD your an idiot, The PS3 has a VERY good upscaler, far better than the crappy upscaler in the Xbox.
If you have ever seen a DVD Upscale, or PS1 title upscale on a PS3, you will know how good it really is.
I’m sure it must hurt bad that your console can’t even manage native HD resolutions for games these days.
Time to sell that 2005 obsolete kit and get a PS3 Slim I think.

“@CAD your an idiot, The PS3 has a VERY good upscaler, far better than the crappy upscaler in the Xbox.”
I know you’re new but give a link or it ain’t so.
I think FF13 is going to be better on ps3 as it was ported to the 360 but in regards to resolution I’ll wait until I hear a more credible source than someone who has “DUDE” in their name. lol
February 19th, 2010
CAD is actually not wrong.
The PS3 does upscale but does not have a dedicated upscaling chip. It uses Cell to do the upscaling and that’s why Sony made it optional. If a dev uses a percentage of Cell’s power to upscale the game, that’s processing power that could be spent on making the game even better.
The 360, on the other hand, has a dedicated upscaling chip that can upscale a DVD or a game without tapping into its CPU.
That’s the main difference between the two.
Seeing as the Cell probably won’t be free for hardware upscaling, I expect the game to be pretty similar between the two versions when played on a 1080p TV with the same settings, but when played on a 720p TV the PS3 version will clearly be sharper.
It seems that porting from PS3 to 360 isn’t as easy as some devs were claiming…

I see people have still got the pitchforks out for CAD.
Poor fucker,
No HD for Final Fantasy on 360?
Oh well, not my problem
February 19th, 2010
“I know you’re new but give a link or it ain’t so.”
seriously….why would you need a link for things that should be common sense. PS3 can upscale anything from DVDs movies, PS1 games, PS2 games, PSP minis, PS3 games etc…..it can even upscale at a higher res than 1080p.
seems like the new guy (Snake) knows more than you do.
February 19th, 2010
Actually… The 360 has a hardware upscaler while the PS3 rely’s on a software solution.
Truth be told though, The upscaler can’t simply make something that isn’t the native resolution comparable to something that is the native resolution.
This arguments been going on forever as a “Blu ray” vs upscaling DVD, and it’s just plain stupid. It usually ends with someone with poor vision saying….”Well…I can’t tell the difference so it works for me”.
February 19th, 2010
No links either roca?
You should know better! lol

Microsoft and Squeenix must prepare for a huge backlash this March.
Claiming that the PS3 & 360 versions are IDENTICAL, they sure are asking for it.
Say goodbye to your 6 million units sold Squeenix!

@phranctoast:
Bzzt, wrong. That’s another myth spread by Microsoft and their army of clueless drones that believe everything they say.

February 19th, 2010
my bad. Could have sworn that it was software when its functionality appeared in a firmware update.
February 19th, 2010
nice find Snake….
CON is just to dumb to actually understand any tech related debate. why would he even ask for a link (just to pretend the 360 is better) is beyond me
February 19th, 2010
It’s funny…
-When FFXIII was still exclusive Xbox fans were like, “well it’s gay and we don’t want it”.
-Then SE announced the port. Xbox fans danced with glee, while PS3 owners cursed SE.
-Then SE announces half the game got cut for DVD. Pisses off PS3 owners even more.
-Then the differences in the port become widely know. Pisses off 360 owners.
In the end, SE is going to end up pissing off everyone.
February 19th, 2010
Oh yeah, and towns and the airship got cut, in all likelihood an an effort to limit disk swapping.
February 19th, 2010
lol I shoulda figured. Xbots picking on whoever posts and leaving out what they can’t reply to. Con, didn’t see my posts there and with that link eh?
February 19th, 2010
@Sorral
read his post in the “Alan Wake” article….where he called someone stupid for comparing 2 different games when he was the one who started comparing them first…you have give them credit for the things they do for their consoles.
February 19th, 2010
Virus oh they love me over here. They were so board when I was gone. Yes I saw those comments
February 19th, 2010
Sorral,
CAD/CON are both idiots.period. they contantly bash the ps3, and when someone retorts they ask for links…when links are slapped in their face, they either ignore links or downplay the credibility of linked source…they just mindless xbox tools that have been raped too much by microsoft..they are beyond help..
See that’s the difference between an xbot and ps3fanboy..we can actually back up our claims…they can’t…and so that’s why they hate so much
February 19th, 2010
Microsoft have fucked up FF13, it seems to be the lowest rated one so far.
February 19th, 2010
Not that I was going to buy it anyway, but what, no airship?
Isn’t the ‘airship phase’ like a hallmark of JRPGs? You’re ready yo take on the final boss, but its ok, IVE GOT ME AN AIRSHIP!..
Kinda sucky, I always enjoyed the FF7 music when you got into the airship, especially with that glum ‘oh noes the world is gonna end!’ music, until you hopped in your tricked out airship and awesome music came on

@Jojo/Roca
Yeah, I know about them. Since kev’s first days here and the old blorge design.
It just boggles the mind that there are people like that, wouldn’t surprise me if they turned out to be some MS employes like that one guy who had his account hacked. Like look at post by cad just above mine.

Hey Dave, you guys should add a facepalm icon here. <.<
February 19th, 2010
Thank you CAD for that little bit of knowledge everyone was already aware of.
The 360 version doesn’t even run at 720p (in game 576p). The only portion of FF13 that does run at 720p on the 360 is the CGI cutscenes, which run at 1080p on the PS3. Confirmed by digital foundry.
Swing and a miss partner.

we went over this long time ago….

blorge is a bit crowded. . . come back in a year

Where’s your link? A google search?
@Sorral
What a fucking twat you are! Actually having a discussion about fanboys like me and CAD whilst talking to ROCA!!! LOL

@Roca
Yeah the music in FFVII was awsome. I actually bought the soundtrack to it. Nobuo Uematsu really outdid himself with that one. I couldn’t list all the tracks from the game I like lol. Everything fit so well into the game.
My definate fav though would be One Winged Angel.
