Next Call Of Duty set during Vietnam War
The Vietnam War isn’t exactly a high point in U.S. history. It’s a war in which America’s involvement was deemed unnecessary and unjust. And it resulted in the deaths of more than 50,000 U.S. soldiers. Yet it’s rumored to be the setting of the next Call Of Duty game.
The Call Of Duty games, and video games in general, have covered the full gamut of conflicts seen in the last 100 years. And Vietnam is set to be the next war to get the CoD treatment.
This was first rumored last year when TheSixthAxis learned that Activision was seeking to license Vietnam War-era music. And now VG247 reports on an L.A. casting call for “voice over/motion capture†work on a video game which describes character Frank Barnes as “being part of an elite Vietnam unit, the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group.”
Other characters described in detail include “Joseph Lewis, a ‘very physically fit’ black man in his 20s; Jason Hudson, a white man in his 30s with ‘over 15 years of military experience, making him an excellent tactician and mission co-coordinator’; and Kristina Ivanova. a Russian-born martial arts expert and CIA operative who’s ‘calm to the point of being cold and detached.’”
While this isn’t definite proof that we’re looking at Call Of Duty: Vietnam coming next, I’d suggest there is a very high probability that this is the case. It not only makes sense but there’s usually no smoke without fire. And with Treyarch’s next Call Of Duty game due to be released before Christmas 2010, it all seems to fit.

Oh yeah this is great.. cause you know, the ratio of Vietnam FPS games compared to WWII FPS games is totally out of whack.

So it’s going to be the same as W@W, substituting the Japanesse for the Viet Minh?
I’ll probably still buy this, because I am a sheep.

Harry,
It’s pretty much similar to the other games. If you liked the other games, then you’ll probably like this one as well.

@ Harry:
Get WOW and play it in Veteren mode… you will smash your joypad, break your telly and have angry sex with your girlfriend after playing th ‘Heart of Reich’ level lmao. But it’s a great game though mate, Kiefer Sutherland does his voice in it… Which means nothing really, I just think Jack Bauer is the coolest person ever lmao.

The war in Nam might not be the “high” point of US military history but then has that ever stopped them re-writing the record books in the past to gloss over the facts.
Other highlights include how they single handedly won WW2 against the rest of the world, weapons of mass destruction and how can we forget all those generous “friendly fire” incidents they have inflicted on their so called allies. Oh how we chuckle at our service men and women getting killed, not by the enemy but our interfering, bungling, gun ho, trigger happy, shoot now ask later US of A buddies.
At least now with the release of this new game the world will get to see the real war in Nam and how America done the right thing all along. God Bless America!

This makes sense as they can reuse assets from WOW with slightly more technologically advanced weapons.
Napalm strike FTW!
