God of War III clocks in at 35GB on dual layer Blu-ray disc
God of War III is shaping up very nicely with jaw dropping visuals. Everyone’s reaction to the final build of the game has been extremely positive. According to recent reports, it seems that the game is mammoth in size as well.
Tim Moss, director of technology at Sony Santa Monica recently tweeted some interesting information about God of War III. He revealed that GOW III will clock in at 35GB on the Blu-ray disc.
#GOW3 35Gb of goodness. Thank heavens for Dual Layer Blu-Rays
He also, revealed that the European version of the game will be bigger, clocking in the low 40GB range with nine difference audio language tracks. Thank heavens for dual layer Blu-ray indeed as the distribution strategy for Europe has been greatly simplified dramatically.
Historically European gamers had to wait a month or two before Blu-ray existed to play God of War. Usually publishers do one of two things: wait until the European distribution channels are finalized and release the U.S. and Euro version together; or release the U.S. version first and Euro later on.
With Blu-ray, studios are able to plop audio language for all regions on the same disc. European gamers will now be able to play God of War III within the same week as their U.S. counterparts.

It’s natural for a Sony owned studio to talk up Blu-ray, they’ve been doing it all along.
February 22nd, 2010
But the Blu-Ray has plenty of reasons to be talked up.
February 22nd, 2010
I smell sour grapes ??
February 22nd, 2010
As a side note ….. I really want to get bioshock 2 and cant decide which platform ??
February 22nd, 2010
It’s weird, I am just not that hyped up for Bioshock 2 for some reason. I loved the first, but the second just isn’t doing it for me.
February 22nd, 2010
Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray …. at least it sounds way cooler than Red-Ray or Brown-Ray because I feel this name will stick around even beyond the PS3′s life cycle.
If only blu-ray won the format wars 1 to 2 years before 2007, the PS3 might be more affordable on launch.
35GB is likely for a GOW3 game. As it will be full of secret levels like the one in the image above where Kratos attacks District9
February 22nd, 2010
The file size of a game is naturally something to praise… lol. More importantly, if it plays just as good as God of War 1&2 or better it should win GotY.
February 22nd, 2010
And of course the world famous “shag-adelic mini games” could be the reason for the 35GB. Sony knows better that these mini games alone is enough to make GOW3 a multi platimum hit.
February 22nd, 2010
size should be something to praise 35GB of gameplay is awesome, thats 4 times bigger than 360s 9GB-DVD9
February 22nd, 2010
@Roca
Age old debate.
Size isn’t everything LMAO
February 22nd, 2010
yeah man (Simpson’s bus driver accent), purple ray games 200GB will be four times as good dude, because that’s 4 times bigger than PS3′s 50GB-BD
February 22nd, 2010
Crap… I remember when you could only get like a 3GB HDD for PC’s lol
We still had fun with games back then lol
February 22nd, 2010
@CarlB
you have been acting a lil stupid lately….
@Spidey
“As a side note ….. I really want to get bioshock 2 and cant decide which platform ??”
well the PS3 version has a higher metacritics score and also I read the 360 version has some freezing issues…idk if it’s been patched now. besides that….they are both pretty identical
February 22nd, 2010
@Roca
“@CarlB
you have been acting a lil stupid lately….”
Maybe he has had too much Sake?
February 22nd, 2010
“like the one in the image above where Kratos attacks District9″
LMAO That’s funny! I thought the movie was ok but not what I expected.
February 22nd, 2010
“Crap… I remember when you could only get like a 3GB HDD for PC’s lol”
I got excited when I got a 500MB HDD in my PC!
February 22nd, 2010
“Age old debate.
Size isn’t everything LMAO”
LOL Yeah we all know that 386 PC is just as nice as my I7 9GB ram 3TB HDD PC.
Guys like Carl that say this crap obviously know nothing about technology.
February 22nd, 2010
CarLB – “Size isn’t everything LMAO
ncaissie – “Guys like Carl that say this crap obviously know nothing about technology.”
true…since the main reason the PS1 was getting more support than the N64 and stealing all Nintendo 3rd party franchise was due to the bigger size the PS1 offered.
February 22nd, 2010
Three weeks and one day.
February 22nd, 2010
Yeah I better get my ass in gear with 2.
I had to help my father in-law do some pluming all weekend so i got little game time.
And I’m fuckin stuck again.
February 22nd, 2010
did I explained it pretty good for you ncaissie?
February 22nd, 2010
is anybody getting Heavy Rain tomorrow?
February 22nd, 2010
I can’t wait for this game to come out. This will probably be the only game besides the original Gears of War game that I will actually buy the collector’s edition for.
February 22nd, 2010
@ Roca and ncaissie
Wow… are my eyes decieving me or did you two go far off the path here? Carl didn’t say “Size isn’t everything LMAO”… I did, and I was trying to crack a joke here… hence why I said “Age old debate”
I see your schwartz is as big as mine
@Roca
“true…since the main reason the PS1 was getting more support than the N64 and stealing all Nintendo 3rd party franchise was due to the bigger size the PS1 offered.”
Perfect example of this was FFVII, which we seem to be speaking about quite frequently here on the blorge.
I remember back in January when i found the pic of the ad from FFVII.. this one here
http://www.messageboardchampion.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/finalfantasy7c.jpg
Basically FFVII never would have fit on a cartridge and thats why it came out on PS1
February 22nd, 2010
Sorry FahKin, usually comments like that comes from CarlB….lol
thanks for backing up my point with the FF7 example, it do recall you mentioned it before.
February 22nd, 2010
FF VII back when Square refused to sacrifice their vision. They stuck with CD and as a result created one of the best RPGs of all time. And made the franchise well known and loved around the globe. Imagine if they were bound by multiplat and the cartridge?
Fast forward to 2010 and Wadda destroying the companies reputation. A a little ironic, no?
February 22nd, 2010
@Roca
Yeah, more space can be good lol. I remember when FFVII came out it was shocking that it was going to be 3 discs long! It was the first game to use 3 discs lol.
FF8 topped that with 4, and I believe FF9 was only 3.
I don’t mind a game with multiple discs though. Back then the more discs a game had the more epic it looked lol.
February 22nd, 2010
@Barnabe
“Fast forward to 2010 and Wadda destroying the companies reputation. A a little ironic, no?”
I’m not sure what your refering to
February 22nd, 2010
“I’m not sure what your refering to”
1-cutting content out of the game
2-no airship
3-no towns
4-no leveling up
5-adding another year and a half of development just because of a Big check from MS.
6-Lighting look just like Ashe from FF12 (no uniqe design there.
7-there is a kid that look just like Vann from FF12 and a girl that looks just like Lulu from FF10.
im sure there are things that have gone wrong with FF13
February 22nd, 2010
@Roca
Thanks for clarifying that for me.
I heard about the cut content… and the missing airship and no towns or leveling up. I also heard that its too linear…
I asked someone to provide more details (if possible) regarding the lack of levelimg but no one seems to know about it, or their are just not speaking.
I’m sure there will be SOMETHING enjoyable about FF13….
One thing I find interesting is a lack of a special or collectors edition of it in t he US but appearently europe and australia is getting a collectors edition of some sort.
Amazon had just posted a limited edition FFXIII Xbox 360 bundle though. I just got the email about it this morning. There really isn’t anything special about it though. It doesn’t have any special design on it like the Japan limited Lighting edition PS3.
It does come with a 250GB HDD and 2 controllers though, but it costs $400 and I don’t see any reason this bundle should have even been made available.
I don’t remember much about the character designs to be honest with you. One thing that I do know is that Snow reminds me too much of Zell from FF8.
And the Chocobo chick in the black guys fro really has me wondering. I am honestly curious to see how or if the chick factors into the game in any way.
Using google images…. Lightning does look like Ashe.
February 22nd, 2010
@Roca
This is just from looking at the FFXIII website
http://www.finalfantasyxiii.com
Hope is the boy who looks like Vaan
The one girl, Serah, IMO looks like Yuna from FFXII
Fang is the one who looks kinda like Lulu from X. From the description I am reading of her she sounds abit like her too.
Maqui looks alil like Tidus from X
Vanille kinda looks like Echidna from Square’s Bouncer
Yaag looks like a Sephiroth clone
Jihl reminds me of Quistis from 8
Captain Rygdea looks like a cross between Jecht from X and Basch from 12
I’m pretty curious about alot of things in FFXIII though, including the Eidolons… Which is the games equivalent of summon monsters… seems kinda interesting to me… magic and machines like that. Shiva being 2 sisters who form a motorcycle… seems weird but i want to see how it fits in
February 22nd, 2010
@FahKinSuPah
I knew you were being sarcastic. And I know CarlB was “trying†being a smartass.
February 22nd, 2010
I guess we just have to wait…..
February 22nd, 2010
“I am honestly curious to see how or if the chick factors into the game in any way.”
They all look like chicks to me.
February 22nd, 2010
I will try your suggestion tonight Roca.
I tried jumping across once but didn’t make it.
So I can bypass the rock guy by double jump and glide?
Thanks.
February 22nd, 2010
what rock guy?
where exactly are you?
February 22nd, 2010
I think Lighting looks like a female Cloud. From what I gather she also has a similar personalty. It’s not a bad thing mind you.
Fang is kinda schmexy. And so is Jihl.
Vanille reminds me of Riku from X. I think its her clothes. Or lack there of lol.
February 22nd, 2010
He’s under the planet. The level where you see Atlas.
No you can’t bypass him. You need to fight him and when he starts to sink the platform you jump off to the wall. Then jump back on and beat him.
That is if you are talking about GOW2 and not some FF game…
February 22nd, 2010
This guide is pretty good…

February 22nd, 2010
ohh yeah, Phranc is right.
I was thinking of another part in the game.
February 22nd, 2010
I ripped the wings from the dude while I fell.
Then landed on the head.
Jumped across the platforms on chains.
Jumped into a hole that looks like a ass or belly button or something.
Then I get to the rock dude and he makes the platform sink before I can kill him.
February 22nd, 2010
You have to jump off the platform when it sinks. You’ll see the part where you can do a wall grab.
February 22nd, 2010
Thanks for the tip.
I really hate getting stuck. I’m not a great gamer but I love to play games.
I’m in the same boat with chains. The big thing that comes down a pathway and climes on the roof when the circle shows up kills me close to the end every time.
I pulled both towers down on him once then he killed me before I could give the final blow.
February 22nd, 2010
That’s why I haven’t bothered with UC2 yet.
I got the demo them deleted it after the truck run me over for the 10 time.
February 22nd, 2010
lol
February 22nd, 2010
Ncaissie,
You can beat UC2. I did it. I beat it on normal. As you all know, Twilight’s gaming skills are unlegendary. I actually beat this game in two days.
February 22nd, 2010
LOL you mean can’t beat UC2.
No I kept getting run over by the dam Jeep and gave up.
I have over 20 games to catch up on and I don’t mind waiting for the price to drop before I buy single player games.
I’ll probably get Dante’s Inferno and Darksiders before UC2.
February 22nd, 2010
That was the demo. I didn’t buy the game.
February 22nd, 2010
“well the PS3 version has a higher metacritic score”
No, it is the same as the 360 version, 88.
February 22nd, 2010
no carl evrythin on ps3 is rated higher. . . even multiplat
February 22nd, 2010
“God of War III won’t be utilising a PlayStation hard-drive install, despite using the complexity of a dual-layer Blu-ray disc.”
February 23rd, 2010
Sorry Liquid, I forgot the PBot law here
February 23rd, 2010
Roca,
Sweet…No mandatory hard drive installation. I can’t wait for this game.
February 23rd, 2010

February 23rd, 2010
Heavy snow here
Guess my wife will be busy shoveling.
I was hoping it was over.
February 23rd, 2010
My forecast? The sisters of Fate!
February 23rd, 2010
“My forecast? The sisters of Fate!”
that part is Epic….enjoy
February 23rd, 2010
Sweet!
February 23rd, 2010
I’m almost to the temple.
February 23rd, 2010
its funny how GoW1 took almost 3 months to beat…and now you are almost at the end of GoW2 in just a few days.
February 23rd, 2010
LOL because I didn’t have much time.
Now I’m making time. And I’m off the heavy narcotics so I can do more and leave time for me.
Although I’m sure my wife is tired of me sitting up in our room every might playing GOW LOL.
My mom is up visiting for 2 weeks and I haven’t seen much of her.
February 23rd, 2010
“My mom is up visiting for 2 weeks and I haven’t seen much of her.”
just in time to shovel huh
February 23rd, 2010
LOL no she is to old for that.
Amanda is fine doing it.
February 23rd, 2010
have you played gow psp at all?
you should finish it before March 16th
February 23rd, 2010
Yes but I’m stuck on it also.
I think I have to try easy LOL.
February 23rd, 2010
Where are you stuck?
February 23rd, 2010
gow psp is not that heard…you just have to get use to block and dodge.
once you get the glove, it will all be alot easier
February 23rd, 2010
I have to walk down a long walkway then a big creature comes during a cut scene. Then I pound him back until he gets on the roof with a circle.
Then I pull the left tower on him then do it again and drop the right tower on him.
Then I get killed.
February 23rd, 2010
LOL that’s the first boss
do you get killed because you run out of health or because you don’t know what to do next?
February 23rd, 2010
run out of health every time lol
February 23rd, 2010
I think the psp controls has a lot to do with it.
I find it hard to hold and I shut it off a lot when I’m fighting.
February 24th, 2010
liquid, I know man, same here.
“Guys like Carl that say this crap obviously know nothing about technology.”
It’s hard to keep up with all the MIT grads here… I forget the chant already… oh yes… “Gameplay quality in an action game = Gigabytes… praise be to to the gigabytes… the disc can hold 50, but hallelujah for 35″.
February 24th, 2010
Jaffe will be on kotaku today at 1pm est maybe talking a bit about eat sleep plays next game.
Gttv will be having new gow3 footage shown tomorrow.
February 24th, 2010
sure beats the 9 you get on the POS 360 Carl.
February 24th, 2010
2 Weeks 6 Days!
February 24th, 2010
It’s going to take me that long to kill the sisters and Zeus
February 24th, 2010
LOL…
Yeah, It takes a MIT education to know that 35 > 9!!
GOW3 is possible on the 360…..with four discs.
February 24th, 2010
oh no… the resolution wouldn’t be as high… gasp.
February 24th, 2010
ERxactly! Lower resolution isn’t as good as higher resolution. Hence…..Blu ray.
February 24th, 2010
is he arguing 35 > 9?
he has hit a new low…..AGAIN!
February 24th, 2010
cough….. Capcom….cough
February 24th, 2010
Jealousy
February 24th, 2010
Well, maybe we will finally get to play those full 1080p retail games we were promised over three years ago.
February 24th, 2010
well maybe those 360 1080p upscaled games will look as good as those PS3 games runn at Native 720p like Uncharted, Killzone 2 and Heavy Rain
February 24th, 2010
@CarlB not this generation.
At least M$ had a bit more realistic expectations and included hardware upscaling into the 360. Sony actually though that they could get the PS3 to do 1080p on all games.
February 24th, 2010
It might happen this generation.
PS3 has at least 6 more years before PS4
February 25th, 2010
@me, I agree with ss on this one… it could still happen, but I’m not holding my breath. Microsoft’s architecture compatibility with the PC was probably more realistic as well. PS3 is making a great come back after it’s slow start though.
February 25th, 2010
at least the PS3 was able to put out a better looking game than all 360 games within a less than a year of being release (Uncharted 1)
February 25th, 2010
Upscaling is for retards with bad eyes.
If you can’t tell the difference then I fell sorry for you. Or your TV is not true HD.
February 26th, 2010
“TEH SUPERIORZ GRAPHEXZ”
…lol.
