Valve loves Natal but not “s**tty” games
The reason many hardcore gamers dislike the Wii and its control system is the type of games available for the console. Valve thinks – hopes – that developers will up the ante and quality for the Xbox 360′s motion-sensing control system, Natal.
Love it or hate it, motion-sensing control is already big business thanks to the Wii, and set to get even bigger upon release of Natal and Arc on Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively. But what will differentiate both of these from each other and from the Wii Remote are the games. Pure and simple.
And on this score, Valve (Half-Life, Left 4 Dead) is clear in its thoughts on what kinds of games should be developed. At least for Natal. Chet Faliszek told CVG:
Hopefully we’ve gotten past the point of mini-games. I’m sick of that [makes arm movement]. That’s not a game for me anymore. Let’s get some real interaction going. We have these technologies now that let us interact in different, really exciting ways. It’s developers’ jobs to do something with it. Impress me. Don’t just make s**tty games I wouldn’t want to play if I had to use a joystick.
He has a point. Some Wii games are crap to the point you only attempt to play them because they use motion-sensing. Take that aspect away and you’re left with a “s**tty” mini-game. Hopefully Natal and Arc will persuade developers to make games with a little more substance than the typical Wii fare.

Although I’m sure many great games will be made for sony and MS make no mistake, there will be shovelware. Every crappy motion controlled game that made it’s way onto the wii will try to find a spot on your beloved HD consoles. Yes there will be Natal ninjabread man and Chicken Shoot Arc, multi-platform Petz and babiez and other things that can end in Z. You can hope Sony and MS won’t allow them but in the end there is money to be made. Developers will want to cash in and each console will want to boast that they have the most motion controlled games. Of course you won’t buy them but others will no matter how much you warn them. Don’t even get me started on the peripherals that will come out. Plastice guns, bats, tennis rackets, swords…. it never stops. Welcome to the world of motion control and try to be understanding when your child begs you to buy Natal Carnival Games.

I agree with Chet Faliszek’s opinion. The Wii is full of mini-games pretending to be real games.
Probably the best game I played on Wii is Metroid Prime 3. That game definately had the motion sensing tech implemented well into it. Eventually I will buy the Prime trilogy for Wii and play through it.

MP trilogy is incredible and really makes me wonder why there aren’t more FPS for the wii. Anyway be sure to pick it up soon, Nintendo has just discontinued shipping it.

I heard they were creating a totally new engine to take over the Source engine. If this is true I have no doubt this will be mind blowing. Remember the difference between half life 2 and ps2 games when it came out?
This may be the game that pulls PC gaming back to its rightful top spot.

The Source engine was good because of its efficiency. It looked great even on non high end machines.
Being that PC gaming appears to be dying a bit (Which Saddens me) The new source engine should be created with the consoles in mind as well. Kind of how the CryEngine is being developed now.

That is a load of crap. I hate the controls. I would play the new Mario but the stupid controls make it unplayable. For instance when you have to make a pounding motion to break blocks.
