Big updates for Playstation Home this year
Sony recently reached out to the Playstation Home community with a most needed update regarding the evolving social gaming platform. The update promises some big changes for the Playstation Home service.
According to Jack Buser, Director of Playstation Home there will be big changes coming this year. Buser assures everyone on the official Playstation Blog that they have been reading all of the comments and have talked to many folks within Home to see what the top requests are.
Interestingly enough Buser talked a little about the model Playstation Home uses.
PlayStation Home is based on a “freemium†model, which allows you, our community to play games, meet friends, explore and discover rewards – all for free. In addition, there are opportunities to personalize your experience with virtual items that allow you to stand out from the crowd, or even play your favorite games in PlayStation Home better (thank you Stomper Boots!)
He also indicates that the team has been secretly working on the requested features from the community behind the scenes.
He states:
Many of our long time community members have been asking for features, fixes and content that we have been secretly hard at work on, and will be rolling out over time. Rest assured that we hear your requests loud and clear (I personally use Home and read the forums daily), and although we can’t deliver everything we’re asked for, we will compliment all of these new features and content with a renewed focus on open dialogue and service.
There is a great deal of speculation that the new stuff on the horizon include in-home media sharing capability (virtual streaming TV/video and music), and the long awaited trophy room.

Anyway dealing with the topic at hand..I think its good to give Home a make over. And give props to Sony for listening to the people who actually go there and mess around on a daily basis. Implementing users ideas is always a good thing.

well those games with poor reviews, no fanbase or low launch sales will drop in price really quickly…dont expect Bioshock 2, ME2 or Heavy Rain to drop anytime soon

Those games are definitely not in the low reviews category (80+ metacritic). Personally I’m still wondering why the F Ninja Gaiden sigma 2 hasn’t dropped in price, especially being that its a port of a 360 game. I will not buy it until it’s $30 tops. I guess I was wrong about it. I predicted it would drop price fast like NGS and Bioshock.
and I know they aren’t close to the same genre but I enjoyed Dantes Inferno a lot more than the Bioshock 2 despite what reviewers say.

They might as well drop the price to get more people to check the games out. Sometimes new releases go on sale like Mass Effect 2 for 39.99 and 49.99. I know it costs a lot to make games but sometimes I think it would be better if certain games came out at a lower cost.

What I like about Bioshock is the exploration and feel of the game..Im pretty sure I will like Dante’s Inferno, I just had to chose between Bioshock 2 and Dante’s Inferno and since Bioshock 1 is one of my fav games, I decided to go with Bioshock 2.

It wouldn’t be terrible if it didn’t take a decade to load.
I’m not to into “Social Networking” (other than blorge)…I don’t even have a facebook account. To me that shit is a waste of time.
Although..like harry mentioned, it would be cool if they had a live E3 within Home. It would have to be done right. Even if you can’t play demos of the new games, videos could suffice until the videos are ready.

I haven’t played Heavy Rain yet but I have received some feedback on this game. They say it is like playing through a mystery drama movie. You control everything in the game. Every single decision you make totally effects every single thing in the game. For example, the character lost there son in the game. When he finally found his son, his son ran across the street and got killed trying to meet up with him. As a result of this, the character’s wife left him and they now share split custody of their remaining son. You hit buttons to control actions even as simple as putting plates on the table. The way you hit the buttons even effect whether you set the plates on the table or slam the plates on the table. It’s been described as a totally complete interactive game.

Heavy Rain is freaking awesome, you actually feel like are in the game. the Gameplay is just like a movie where you have total control of what’s happening, my brother and my gf sat there for like 2 hour just watching me play. it is really a well done game that offer a epic story and a fresh new experience and gameplay style

I log into it, hmmm maybe 1-3 times a month, just enough to keep up with the changes and see what’s out, I’ve actually bought a few things here and there…its fun yet different. Heavy Rain is pretty awesome, it gives me an almost blade runner type feel to it, trust me, coming off my bad company 2 demo high, the last thing I wanted was to play that slow a pace type of game…but I’m glad I did, chalk this game as bought and putting a hole in my wallet…
And a quick pat in the back for me, ranked 3000+ out of 3.5million peeps playing the bc2 demo (y’all can do the math as the 3.5million is for both 360 and ps3) and currently at 500 dog tags

What Home needs is an interactive environment (thunderstorms, wind breeze, dusk, dawn, morning clouds, gloomy clouds, etc.) Every time I go in there the weather is always the same.
Home also needs a dating room for 18+ up. So then I won’t be annoyed with the bastard little kids acting like wild hyenas.
It would also be nice for Home to add a 60″ plus plasma or led screen tv to your virtual apartment to watch blu ray movie/dvds/listen to music/karaoke/photos/etc.
This feature would really set the mood of a real date with a pretty young lady
*wink wink*. lol anyray…
Home needs to add virtual shower and bathrooms. My virtual avatar needs to take a shit sometime you know.
And I have a slew more of ideas but I’ll hold my peace for now. It’s not like they’ll be implemented.

Each console has its own weakness and strengths, so saying ps3 is better than xbox 360 is as wrong as saying 360 is better than ps3..
We are gamers, we have preferences that defines us..
If i love halo, gears etc than i m bound to buy a MS console for that.. And same for people who want god of war, Gt etc..

Ms marketed the 360 as the system that brings hd gaming first, and it suceeded, but only because sony wasn’t gonna offer people an alternative, until a year later…kudos to ms
But don’t get public perception mixed up with what is truth:
The ps3 is a superior system, here’s why:
Despite being much mroe expensive, ms was never able to open its sales lead gap anymore than the year headstart, 11million…that was it entire lead, with a one year headstart..unchallenged at that…
Sony has managed to not only close the gap, but outsell the 360, despite having twice the competitors the 360 had.
Sony failed to market the value the ps3 has.

On top of this list major developers themselves have already begun to develop on the ps3 as lead platform..capcom/roackstar/square and others have already commented on having to “sacrifice” the quality/content of their games, because the 360 can’t handle them…
So, yeah its taken developers a bit to reign the ps3, yeah most of this coulda been helped if sony marketed the system better, but, none of that changes the fact the ps3 is indeed superior…its sony own fault for not marketing it so, until now…
On top of even that, no game on 360 has beaten the graphical benchmark that are killzone 2 and uncharted 2…
But I understand your qualm about people not seeing the ps3 as superior…it is sonys own fault

Now, try it vice versa..killzone wouldn’t even fit..so you lose content…uncharted wouldn’t even fit, you lose content..such a simple thing as having the games fit onto a disk and thr 360 is already having probs…

And i would also like to point out that sony and ms are pursuing diff goals as far as exclusives goes..
Xbox 360 is centered arnd the live experience and most of their first party/2nd/3rd party exclusives are developed with live experience in mind, heck most of their exlusives support split screen/ co-op..
which limits their actual scope as far as graphics goes.. Infact techno buffalo even pointed out that Gears 2 is a perfect example of a game that is pretty good looking even with split screen and compressed graphics..
While sony first party titles are more centered arnd single player games which which are visually superior, but then as i said earlier, as gamer we all have preferences.. And if i valued pretty graphics over co-op, i would not be buying a 360/ ps3 but a gaming pc..

I understand your point about 360 having an uphill battle against the 2 console sony machine…but I don’t give a company with the cash funds ms funds any slack…especially when in article gates himself said he’d throw money at the xbox until it sells…I lost a lot of respect for the xbox brand since then..
Now I don’t let sonys execs slide either, as I ppointed it out, they are the reason sony is “behind” for the moment, but, unlike ms and contrary to the public perception, and aside from nintendo, sony is the underdog…they don’t have the endless funds microsoft has as evident in sony having to “lose” exclusives, i:e, not being able to fund a bidding war for exclusives, instead, choosing the smart move and funding their own first party studios.
Gears for me always looked good, no doubt..but, like most unreal engine games, it just had a common look ot it, whereas killzone 2,uncharted have their own distinct look to them…but yes they have differing approaches, but, regardless, the graphics egde goes to the ps3…as we are trying to get who the superior system is, we can agree graphical edge goes to ps3…ff13 will only cement this for more people..
As far as online experiences go…well, I’m still not convinced by ms, to pay 50 bucks…the only real advantage live has over psn is cross game voice chat…but this area is subjective and if you disagree we can agree to disagree, as its a tad too subjective

No doubt the 360 had a big lead, but they also had, and are still healing from, that massive black eye that is the RRoD. I say “is” only because there are most likely still millions of 360′s out there that are yet to go down like mine did before it’s fourth year of service was complete. Many, if not most of those consoles will be outside of the 3 year warranty window. The owners may be lucky like Harry was and Microsoft will work with them, but I don’t know. I was also one of those “idiots” who moved the console with the disc (COD2 on launch day) in the tray and had it scratched, because I was used to doing this with no problem on the PS2. Fortunately GameFly paid for it with no questions asked.
To their credit, Sony waited a year and made a more reliable console out of the starting gates. The article you quoted is from mid-2006, and Sony still hasn’t caught up, but they are well on their way, especially if Microsoft doesn’t bring their A-game from here on out.
To Tretton’s credit, he had the long term vision (10 year/marathon vice sprint mentality) in 2006 that he still has today. That 10 million figure has been halved, and there is still at least another 6 years to go in the PS3′s lifecycle (and 360′s, if Microsoft’s previous “one day longer” quote holds true). PS3 was also expensive out the gate, but not so any longer with the redesign. And even though they may be losing the equivalent of a 10 spot with every unit sold, PS2′s and PSP’s are still selling well.
Thinking beyond this gen, Microsoft’s folly with the RRoD will probably cost them at least a couple of million sales at the start of next gen as well.

NC, if it was that then they still wouldn’t be selling more software than PS3 every month.
@jojo, I understand where you are coming from, but it is still a very slight edge. I expect PS3 to come into it’s own this year and make it more distinct with more games, but even then, it is not a definitive advantage. It’s like arguing the Genesis had better graphics than the SNES or vice versa. It may be there for certain games on either console, but the line is so slight that it isn’t a really clear advantage to either console.

Remind me to never hire you for an accountant. If I have 5 games that sell 10 copies each and you have 2 games that sells 20 each then who sells more games? Don’t strain your brain too much, I will give you the answer! I sell 50 in total and you sell 40 so that mean I sell more. It’s common sense. Something you are lacking. The PS3 attach rate is closing the gap meaning the PS3 is selling MORE SOFTWARE than the 360. Go take a business course.

Yes, I agree that sony were the ones buying up exclusives last gen, but, they did so while carefully building their first party studios, it was a risk for them, ms is not risking anything remember, gates will throw money at the box till it sells, a smart business practice, but one I don’t respect, money earned I always say.
Now, yes its a good thing for 360 to be buying up exclusives…but, I believe sony had much better foresight, it almost seems that had this gen pegged, but faltered off the starting line. After this year, what will ms itself have to offer? Sony will have its many, many first party franchises, remember, multiplatform games will be on both systems, so now it just comes down to what ms studios and sony studios brings.

the 360 have twice as many console as PS3 in NA, where most of the software sales takes place. so, looking at the attach rate and console difference I think Sony is doing well. also im pretty sure MS capitalized with its “year lead” sales with NO COMPETITION from a next gen consoles. meanwhile Sony has pretty much close the gap in attach rates while competing with 2 other consoles

I want to get one but my life seems so full at the moment and if I’m finding it harder to Play my 360 then 2 Consoles will be even worse but it will happen one day I’m waiting for another Price cut before I jump in as my beef with Sony stems deep but I can fianlly see that they are getting their act together so I must applaud their effort. It’s the reason I’m talking more about being a multiplatform owner then a singel console owner because if your a true gamer then you won’t allienate yourself. Can you feel the Ps3 thunder coming? Seriously, if you are able to, you should really go ahead and get a Ps3 and take advantage of the decent Ps3 titles coming out. You can make time to play the exclusives from both systems. It can be done. You want Roca to get a Xbox360 but he’s stated that he doesn’t see a need for one. He says that he has too many Ps3 games to play like you say that you have too many Xbox360 games to play. You need to practice what you are preaching. The day that you become a dual console owner then you can talk to people about adding a Xbox360.

I’m “technically” a dual console “owner”. My bro has both a ps3 and 360. BUT, he doesn’t subscribe to LIVE Gold…to me that is both smart and a waste, and wherein lies my dilemna with the 360.
I have stated that there are a couple of games on the 360 that i actually like (Fable, Gears, PGR) but when i really, look, and believe me, REALLY look at the games catalog, thats all i would be getting the 360 for, as some of the best games on the 360, have also released on the PC, which i have, a decked out pc that i built myself.(NOTE: my rig can run Crysis at full settings over 75 fps, never dipping, and BC2 Beta at full settings, never dropping below 55)
BUT, the KEY things that would prevent me from owning a 360 for myself are:
Pay to play online.
This for me is the deal breaker. 3 consoles out of 4 ( Thats nintendo,sony.360,wii and the PC) allow you to play online for free, ms wants you to pay? for what? to play a demo a week early? fuck that, i don’t care for all that content on either psn or LIVE, i just want to be able to play the game i bought online, for free…like it has been since the freaking birth of online gaming…add to this, MS is already seen as a greedy ass corporation, if not the MOST greedy, and you can see why i personally wouldn’t fall for this scheme, because that is what paying to play online is: A scheme.
Games. I tend to look at the exclusive FIRST party games each console has to offer, and currently out of all 4 consoles, PS3 is where i want to be at. CAD mentioned that MS had an answer for most of what hte PS3 has to offer, and i say hes full of shit. FInd me the answeres for the following:

You shouldn’t have to wait long, there will probably be another one before the holidays. 48% of PS2′s were sold at $149, so I think the PS3 will be available for around $259 by the end of the year. Truthfully though, myself and harry bought one, played the exclusives that appealed to us for a couple of months, then haven’t really felt a great need for it and just went back to our 360′s for the majority of our gaming… God of War III will probably be the next game I play on it. It’s just a luxury to be able to play the few exclusives that appeal to you on the other system, whichever one you currently own. PS3 is a good blu-ray player if you don’t already have one though.

The only reason that I currently have a Xbox360 is because a friend gave me one for free. I refused to buy another Xbox360 system again. The Xbox360′s hardware failure rate is atrocious. Since I have the system, I will probably use it for Gears of War series and a few games not available on the Ps3 like Alan Wake. I will continue to buy most of my games on the Ps3 system. Besides the Ps3 hardware being more reliable, I feel that the Ps3 is a better overall system. It has better graphics and sound then the Xbox360 and the system doesn’t sound like a tractor trailer while you are playing the system. In all fairness, I could buy a hard drive and download the games to the hard drive but I don’t plan on using the system as much as I use the Ps3 system. I use my Ps3 system all the time.
I absolutely agree that the Ps3 system has the best line-up of exclusive titles. I am personally looking forward to playing G0W3 the most.

MS have less than 10 1st and 2nd party studios and most of them sticks to just ONE SINGLE IP (e.i Bungie = Halo, Turn 10 = Forza, etc)
