Bungie still refusing to discuss future releases, but multi-platform surely a given

February 25, 2010

Halo developer Bungie is still refusing to discuss the game(s) it has in development. Which has led to new speculation that the title(s) will be multi-platform. I don’t think that’s even up for debate now – Bungie’s next game will be on PS3 as well as Xbox 360. Surely.

Bungie has, up to now, been a one-console company, developing exclusively for the Xbox 360. And this has paid dividends for Microsoft, with the Halo games being a big reason why the original Xbox and 360 managed to succeed where so many others have failed.

But Bungie broke free of Microsoft’s vice-like grip in 2007, meaning it’s now free to develop for rival consoles. Which it surely is doing, unless there’s something very, very wrong with the people in charge. But they’re still not talking, merely telling CVG:

I think our whole future’s kind of undefined right now and it’s definitely not something we’re going to be comfortable getting into too much detail about. We’ve had another team internally [other than those making Reach] for quite a while now – they’ve been working on the genesis of what will become our next big thing. It’s a little premature to get into specifics, but you know I think we have a really good mix of old blood and new blood in the studio.

It’s happening, accept it. I just wish Bungie would announce its first multi-platform title already, rather than beating around the bush in this way.

I agree with liquid. All those games he mentioned that just so happen to be 360 exclusives are the shittest games ever made.

    No joke.

I think Bungie is probably ONE of the most overrated developers (Nintendo takes top honors).

Halo 3 was pretty mediocre. Years later, they re-released it with an expansion slapped on instead of doing a DLC pack.

That’s not too impressive. I’d rather have a good developer like Epic (Gears) or EA (ME2). Bungie is a one trick pony, but the trick is old and stale.

I actually like the Gears Of War series. It’s one of my favorite games. It’s a fun game to play. I’m curious to see what Bungie comes up with.

It would be interesting to see what they do next after venturing out of the safe waters of Halo.

i would say it is pretty obvious that the next game will be multiplat. as sony have said, the era of 3rd party exclusives is coming to an end because it is now too expensive to develop a game solely for one platform. Liquid – such a mature response. have you actually played any of these games?

  9. Spideydog:

They will be under a massive amount of pressure to release a game to live up to Halo series (to prove they are not a one hit wonder)

I dig the fable series…I like the gears series…

as for ea developing…EA has its own studios, but don’t. Give all the credit to EA, they are also a publisher…for example, I NEVER call battlefield an “EA” game, because DICE are the ones responsible for that awesome franchise, which is EA MoH team asked DICE to develop the MoH reboot…when it comes to modern warfare…nobody has anything on DICE, valve can suck it, activision can kiss it…lol sorry battlefield is my fav fps

In other news, I forgot to mention awhile ago ssf4 is gonna have my Ibuki in it!!!

  11. Roca.:

    im getting ssf4

I know Nughty Dog will be head of the welcoming party if Bungie jumps over PS3 territory along with many its fans.
For all we know Bunjie already know the ins & outs of the PS3 by now.

Speaking of SSFIV its definitely a PS3 game for me. Never again will I play it on a 360 controller.
