EPIC likely working on PS3/Xbox 360 multiplatform title
Rumors of a new game under development at EPIC Games have been prevalent for quite some time. As the stars align for E3, there is good indication that the game EPIC is working on is a multiplatform title for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
According to an interview with Venture Beat, Mike Capps, president of EPIC Games stated that the company is not working on a new Unreal game right now. He did indicate that the company is working on the Gears franchise though.
He also indicated that the company plans on revealing a new game at E3 which will be “really exciting for fans of EPIC.†Incidentally EPIC is also set to unveil Unreal Engine 4 at E3 this year.
One of the reasons why EPIC makes games is to demonstrate their engine on the supporting platform. This is how EPIC markets their Unreal Engine to other third party studios.
Capps has indicated in the past that the studio strives to develop highly technical games for each of the platforms as a way to market the Unreal Engine and its capabilities. Unreal Tournament 3 was developed as a timed exclusive for the PS3 to demonstrate the graphical capability of the engine on that platform. Gears of War has also been the poster child of the Unreal Engine 3 for the Xbox 360.
With EPIC set to unveil the Unreal Engine 4 this year at E3, there is speculation that the “new†game being developed is a PS3/Xbox 360 multiplatform title to demonstrate to potential customers its platform support. This new title may be the long rumored survival/action horror title Cliffy B. hinted at a while back.
