Top 20 video games to play in 2010

February 27, 2010

2010 is shaping up to be a bumper year for video games, with some astounding titles due for release on all the major formats. But what games should you be most looking forward to playing in 2010?

We here at GAMER.BLORGE held a poll between Dec. 30, 2009 and Feb. 27, 2010 to find out which games our readers were most looking forward to playing in the year ahead, and the Top 20 is as follows:

Top 20 Video Games To Play In 2010

God Of War III – 648 – 15% of all votes
Final Fantasy XIII – 434 – 10% of all votes
Call Of Duty 7 – 402 – 9% of all votes
Halo: Reach – 291 – 7% of all votes
Gran Turismo 5 – 219 – 5% of all votes
Mass Effect 2 – 187 – 4% of all votes
Heavy Rain – 126 – 3% of all votes
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – 120 – 3% of all votes
Bioshock 2 – 96 – 2% of all votes
MAG – 80 – 2% of all votes
Metal Gear Solid: Rising – 80 – 2% of all votes
Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver – 67 – 2% of all votes
Starcraft II – 63 – 1% of all votes
Final Fantasy Versus 13 – 52 – 1% of all votes
Crysis 2 – 51 – 1% of all votes
Red Dead Redemption – 42 – 1% of all votes
Super Mario Galaxy 2 – 41 – 1% of all votes
The Last Guardian – 41 – 1% of all votes
Final Fantasy XIV – 39 – 1% of all votes
Splinter Cell Conviction – 38 – 1% of all votes

No surprise to see God Of War III at the top, although its margin of victory over the second-placed Final Fantasy XIII is higher than anticipated. Gran Turismo 5 only making fifth place is a shock to me, while I’m guessing MAG gained most of its votes before it was actually released to tepid reviews.

There were many more games mentioned than this, but the Top 20 is where the action really is. Titles not making the cut include White Knight Chronicles, Yakuza 3, and DC Universe Online. While some of the entries were slightly more comical, including Carpet Muncher 3: This Time It’s Personal, the ever-popular Ivan_PSP, and, erm, Hannah Montana 2.

Two omissions from the Top 20 to note are the FF7 Remake and Grand Theft Auto 5, neither of which has actually been announced yet, let alone scheduled for release in 2010. Meanwhile So many I can’t choose just one!!! picked up 183 votes, which would have placed seventh.

Thanks to all who voted, and be sure to vote in the brand new poll up on left of this article.

  3. Saber_HAHAha:

See ya Liquid ol’ buddy ol’ pal.

The first 6 on the list were no surprise. However, I’m a bit surprised to see Heavy Rain have so many more votes than Bioshock 2.

Also… there’s over a thousand people voting? I thought the active Blorge member count was like… 8…

  4. RomasantaMC:

Really Starcraft and Crysis fell below Battlefield BadCompany.
Who the fuck is stupid enough to buy another EA game thats gonna be broken by their shitty servers.

    ” Also… there’s over a thousand people voting?”

thats because those tards from VGChartz wont dare show their comments here. They know they wont last a second here. If they can’t back up their comments well here they are better off just watching the action here & be anonymous voters. ^_^
Their asses will be clobbered to smitherenes. ^_^

    BTW
39M shipped cant compare to 31M sold, right?
There is something fishy about that VGC site.
I really feel its one of those sites fuelled by M$ money. I got a flame bait warning just by the words: “360 leads PS3 by 5 million units. I wonder how many of those units are still working?”
Maybe people there are very touchy?

  12. ncaissie:

LOL @gunstar, Sounds like a nice place for Carl and CAD.

  13. SW:

@Kevo – I’m not turning my PS3 on until I get home from work at this point ;)

They think its some sort of date glitch. Hopefully they get it fixed soon…

  14. Barnabe Jones:

    Kevo,

Yeah this is a serious problem. PSN hasn’t even been down in a long time. What ever the issue is, it’s pretty big.

Keep an eye on the internet. Hopefully they get it fixed by tonight. I have a feeling this might actualy take longer though.

  15. Barnabe Jones:

    It’s Y2k!

  16. Barnabe Jones:

Yeah all of the old phat models are effected. Because of the time glitch, you can’t even play offline games.

Below is Sony’s latest comment. Sounds like it could pass after today, or they might have to do a firmware update. If it’s the latter, it might take a little bit of time.

    From Sony:

The issue does NOT affect the PS3 Slim; it only affects the older “fat” models. Some fat models will be fine; others – possibly older ones, like the original 60GB – are more susceptible to this bug. Basically, the clock gets messed up; it’s NOT related to the OS or the PSN. If the clock is bonked, you won’t be able to access the PSN, use any DLC, and Trophies won’t sync correctly.

Manually resetting the date won’t do anything right now. Once the “affected” day passes, however, everything could revert to normal; this often happens with other electronics. If it doesn’t, we need a firmware update from Sony to restore things but remember that your saved data, DLC, themes, etc. are all FINE. They are not gone forever. Same goes for the Trophies, unless you tried to sync them while the system was bugged.

its not a PSN issue, PSN is up and working fine.
it is a internal clock issues (just like SW said) and it is getting patched soon.

this is normal with electronics devices, I remember something like this happened to the Zune years ago

  18. Kevo/Sir_Chubs_Alot08:

yea i tried AC2 and it said it couldnt sync trophies…this game will quite and i was thinking either sony did this or juss a major error…which comes to mind i remember my buddy’s 60gb gettin fried from an update…i hope sony got their shit together about this just sayin lol

  19. Roca.:

I read the error has something to do with the system thinking there was a Feb 29th this year.

i.e. “I wouldn’t feel ‘fishy’ at all if it said PS3 was leading instead…”
