PS3 8001050F error affecting users worldwide – PSN & games inaccessible
If your PS3 is currently showing the 8001050F error code when you try and connect to PSN or play games with trophies enabled then you’re not alone. This is affecting Playstation 3 owners worldwide. And no one, including Sony, yet seems clear what the problem is.
The PS3 glitch started hitting users early this morning after they tried to log in to PSN. The 8001050F error code is displayed and affected PS3s are then unable to connect to PSN, access the Playstation Store, or play games which sync trophies at startup. What’s more, some users are reporting their date and time has reverted back to the past, sometimes as long ago as Dec. 31, 1999, and save data and DLC also seems to have been compromised.
PS3 Slims seem to be unaffected, but all original models are prone to the error, even debugged models used by journalists and developers.
The most likely cause seems to be the date change from Feb. 28 to March 1, but that isn’t yet confirmed. Sony is only saying, “Know that we have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service even as you read this. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and genuinely appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this.”
Those affected will have to hope a simple firmware update will resolve the issue, and that all save data, trophies, and DLC will be as they were before the glitch hit. Those who haven’t yet switched their PS3s on today are advised not to until a fix is issued.

I’m not turning my PS3 on today (or until they say they’ve fixed it). Which sucks, because I’m all about MG-O at the moment…
What concerns me is the ‘its no the PSN and its not the FW’… Which leaves us with the clock? And then, you wonder, is the ‘clock’ even patchable…
If indeed it is patchable, then great, if its the PSN spazzing out the PS3 then fine, fix it.
If its a hardware issue, you better extend the warranty to cover this issue…

what I don’t is why is this an issue, the game “Flower” has a trophy called “Play the game after a week long break.”
so I manually changed the date on the system (Original 60GB) to 8 days ahead of the actual date, I loaded the game and I got the trophy, then I changed the date back to normal and every was fine.

this is not a network issue, turning on your console (even without internet access) will still get you that error and will probably corrupt some data. BD seems to be affected by this error.

Supposedly the leap year thing is a pretty common glitch. I just don’t think it’s ever happened to this extent and scale.

The classic piano black Ps3 system is great but I’ve adjusted to the slim unit. Your system will probably not break. If it does break for some reason, Sony would repair your system or send you another classic Ps3 system. This is what they did with my friend’s launch Ps3 when it broke.

A fix has been found, by removing the battery that runs the internal clock will cause it to reset. Several people have done this but i don’t recommend it for those who are willing to wait 24hr or those with weak knees.
It seems all of our fatties are having probs with their “tickers”.

We felt bad about the shady timed exclusives, and realized we were total douche-bags. So in an effort to set things right, we decided we will not release any exclusive games during the first half of 2010.
We did the same thing last year, and blind fan boys didn’t seem to care. So we figured we would do it again this year just for kicks.

The idea of getting someone to download a patch off the net and install it sounds like a good one, hopefully everything will fix itself up soon.
Re the 360 outage back in 2008, I recall it was around christmas. I wasn’t affected that much, was booted out of Modern Warfare about 3 times, but that was about it. I do recall having a 2 hour match of Topspin 2 with another aussie guy around that period, so the outages were intermittent, and more common when the US and Canada were using the network the most.
Anyway, it sucks how phat owners are having trouble playing offline games as well as online games, I really hope they fix this soon.

CON, I might owe you an apology mate, it appears there are 2 clocks in the PS3. The system clock thinks every even year is a leap year, while the OS clock knows every 4th year is a leap year, hence the conflict.
So it is possible it may happen again in 2014.
So looks like Sony never actually fixed anything.
