Warkhawk dev drop hints about Starhawk, comments on PS3 memory Fans of Warkhawk will jump for joy as the developers behind the popular aerial dog-fighting game are making some progress on their next game. The next title has been speculated to be a space faring game called Starhawk.

Dylan Jobe recently twitted [via Examiner] that progress on the next big title by LightBox Interactive is going well. The rumored title, Starhawk has been under wraps and has not been officially announced yet.

He tweeted:

We deliver another milestone to SONY today. Very happy with the progress. So many systems coming into place — w00t!

*GONG* Milestone is delivered to SONY — Always so impressed with the work our LightBox Interactive team cranks out!

Jobe also commented on the recent move by Sony in freeing up an additional 70MB of XDR ram.

He tweeted:

That memory makes a big difference — all the teams working on PS3 love it when SONY opens more RAM.

I’m curious as to how this game is shaping up. It is speculated to come with a full blown single player story unlike Warkhawk. Interestingly enough It was unintentionally revealed that Starhawk would have a single player campaign via a job description a while back. It would be neat if the developers did a throw back to Wing Commander.

  1. Saber_HAHAha:

I have Warhawk sitting in my collection, but for some reason, I haven’t even got around to TRYING it yet :( . Not sure if I ever will, with MW2 keeping me occupied.

  2. ViRuS:

Does anybody know what the deal is with IW?

Something about bouncers showing up at the building, and senior figures dissappearing?

Is it supoosed to be some sort of publicity stunt for something?

  3. harry sachz:

    @ Virus,

IGN have something on that. It’s still a bit of a mystery as to what’s actually going on there. We’ll probably find out in a few days I bet.

  4. phranctoast:

Hopefully it’s just a publicity stunt but for some reason I doubt it.

  5. FahKinSuPah:

    Starhawk?!?!

So were getting a remake of that NES era gem Captain Starhawk?

    *Lots of Sarcasm*

  6. phranctoast:

Didn’t warhawk have an add on that made kind of “starhawk” like?

  7. Barnabe Jones:

    idk about the add ons.

I picked up Warhawk late. It’s not the prettiest looking game, but it’s really fun. I think a lot of people still play it also.

  8. Barnabe Jones:

    Off Topic:

Game to make the best use of waiting for an install – Heavy Rain.

I won’t spoil it for anyone, but it was very creative and pretty fun :)

  9. phranctoast:

yeah, I hear it has ridiculous load times.

  10. ncaissie:

“Game to make the best use of waiting for an install – Heavy Rain.”
    Solitaire?

  11. CAD:

    CALLING ALL HALO FANS.

Oh My Goodness I can’t believe this crept up on me and I didn’t even know. Tomorrow is Halo Reach Beta. Apparently there is supoose to be some Kind of MP Bomb announcement today. Oh I don’t think I’ll be at work tomorrow.

  12. CON:

Not the biggest Halo fan but think my friend has the beta so might check it out CAD

  13. Barnabe Jones:

No the load times aren’t that bad. They actually do some creative stuff with the loads times in game also though.

And it’s better than solitaire. ;)

  14. phranctoast:

    What do they do BJ?

  15. The Future of Sega:

I gave up on Warhawk early, last year. That game has outlived it’s age. :)

  16. Roca.:

Warhawk was pretty fun….it just came out too early during the PS3 life cycle when online-only games wasn’t pretty popular

  17. Barnabe Jones:

There is a piece of paper packed in with the instruction booklet. As you wait for the game to install, they give you step by step instructions to creating your very own origami crane (like in the game).

Simple, but original and creative. The game finished installing before I was done. I even took some extra time to finish it up.

  18. Roca.:

Another great developer team under Sony’s betl.
Sony has just acquired “Media Molecule” (LittleBigPlanet creators)

“Under the SCE Worldwide Studios umbrella, Media Molecule joins the likes of Naughty Dog, Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Games, Polyphony Digital, SCE Japan, SCE Santa Monica and Zipper Interactive.”

  19. Barnabe Jones:

I wonder what they’ve been up to. The PSP game was outsourced, so they really haven’t been working on anything major lately. Must be something in the works.

  20. phranctoast:

In other media molecule news, The game has sold over 3 million and has 2 million user created maps.

    Yes….I said 2 million.

    That is F’in insane!!!!!!

  21. Roca.:

I think Quantic Dream might be next…or maybe Infinity Ward who supposedly got cut loose by Activision (rumor)

  22. phranctoast:

IW won’t get cut loose. But it would be great to see all of IW leave after the firing of its Execs and open up a new studio. And make that studio Sony exculsive :)

They’ll lose the COD name, but that didn’t stop them from making great games after they left the Medal of Honor franchise and EA years ago.

  23. Barnabe Jones:

Bobby Kotick strikes again. The man is concentrated evil I tells ya.

  24. phranctoast:

These two guys co founded IW. If times were better (recession) I’m sure a lot of the original people would have followed them out the door.

Then Treyarch would be left to outright ruin the franchise.

Activision has been making some blunders. This and shutting down Red Octane. Asses!

  25. Roca.:

now Sony has the largest 1st party studio and they are pretty much covering every single genre

  26. phranctoast:

    Meanwhile over at MS

“ACES Game Studio: Microsoft Flight Simulator series, Combat Flight Simulator series and Microsoft Train Simulator series. Disbanded January 23, 2009.
Ensemble Studios: Age of Empires series, Age of Mythology, Halo Wars. Disbanded on January 29, 2009.
Carbonated Games: Developed for MSN Games and Windows Live Messenger. Disbanded on March 27, 2008.
Digital Anvil: Brute Force, Freelancer. Disbanded on January 31, 2006.
Hired Gun: Halo 2 for Windows Vista. Disbanded in October 2007.
FASA Studio: MechWarrior series. Disbanded on September 12, 2007.
Indie Built: Amped series, Links series, Top Spin series. Sold off to Take-Two Interactive in October 2004, now disbanded.”

  27. phranctoast:

and thats leaving out the biggie.

    Bungie no longer 1st party.

  28. Roca.:

its funny every time MS buy a studio…….soon after their first or second game under MS the studio disbaned

  29. Roca.:

A Sony Sequel to be announce for the first time on Thursday

    http://www.gametrailers.com/video/episode-306-gametrailers-tv/62542

  30. Roca.:

which game you guys think will be announced?
    -Resistance 3
    -Killzone 3
    -Infamous 2
    -Twisted Metal
    -Starhawk
    -Demon’s Souls 2
    -Socom 4
    -Syphon Filter 5
    -Sly 4

  31. phranctoast:

Starhawk or resistance 3 is my guess roca.

  32. Mike Ferro:

    @CAD

    *post deleted

Do not post entire articles into the comments section. It would suck to institute a character limit.

  33. harry sachz:

    What’s Warkhawk?

  34. phranctoast:

a great game that came out a couple of years prior to your ownership of a ps3.

It’s a great and all, but definitely old news.

Not sure how many ppl are still playing it anymore.

  35. harry sachz:

haha I know about Warhawk, I was just having a dig at Mike’s spelling.

  36. gunstar:

    nice one Harry!
I thought I was the only one with dyslexia

  37. phranctoast:

That’s weird that I missed that. Im usually a stickler for spelling. ;)

  38. phranctoast:

But I’m hoping for a twisted metal announcement more than anything.

  39. Roca.:

“But I’m hoping for a twisted metal announcement more than anything”

me too, but I think it’s going to be Resistance 3 or Starhawk just like you said, specially when after Dylan (the man behind Warhawk) said “We deliver another milestone to SONY today”

  40. phranctoast:

I hear it’s supposed to be a “surprising sequel”

    In that case that eliminates.
    -Resistance 3
    -Killzone 3
    -inFamous 2

and opens the door a bit for maybe
    -Twisted Metal
    -Syphon Filter
    -Starhawk
    -SOCOM 4

Whatever it is there has to be enough for a premiere trailer.

  41. Roca.:

only a few hours until we find out

  42. phranctoast:

“only a few hours until we find out”

Is it or are we stuck waiting until Friday morning?

  43. Roca.:

Media Molecule – “The studio was founded in January 2006 by former members of Lionhead Studios, a subsidiary of Microsoft Games Studio.

On 2 March 2010, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced that it had acquired Media Molecule”

  44. Roca.:

    @Phranc
I thought they the trailer will air on Thurdays at 12:30am…so basically just a little past midnight tonight

  45. phranctoast:

They also said Thursday night leading me to believe they are considering 12:30AM friday morning as Thursday “night”.

It would be on par as to how the GOW3 video surfaced right? Didn’t that appear to us on Friday morning?

Blorge has the news of that for Saturday, so the day behind thing works ;)

  46. Roca.:

    hey Phranc…
While looking for the official schedule of GTTV on Spike I found out what the “surprising sequel” is going to be…here is a quote from their website:

    “GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley
    Mar 4, 2010 @ 12:34 AM

In this episode GTTV goes to DICE in Las Vegas to bring you new details behind the upcoming Hammerhead DLC for Mass Effect 2, never-before-seen footage and details for Transformers: War for Cybertron, and we chat with Blizzard about StarCraft II. Plus, we showcase a new trailer for SOCOM 4 and we also preview the first footage of Puzzle Quest 2!”

maybe Mike should be the first one to post an article about it and give some credit to Roca ;)

  47. Roca.:

    here is the link:
    http://www.spike.com/show/20265

  48. phranctoast:

    WOW.

SOCOM fans rejoice. I just don’t know when Zipper would have gotten a chance to make anything being tied up with MAG

  49. Roca.:

    “SOCOM fans rejoice”

    indeed :D
now im really looking forward to this game.

  50. Roca.:

    I meant to say:
now im really looking forward to this [trailer]*

  51. phranctoast:

So tonight it is. Hopefully it doesn’t turn out to be a PSP game. They talked all about PS3 games when they teased it.

    @Roca.

I couldn’t find the SOCOM 4 tidbit you posted. Someone on another site seemed to have insider info and they made it sound like it was a racing game, with a description closer to a new Motorstorm game. Of course they were mentioning destruction and vehicles so my fingers are still crossed for Twisted Metal!!!!

  52. Roca.:

click on the above link then click on the “schedule” tab

  53. phranctoast:

Can’t get to that from work, and my phone will only connect to their mobile site which doesn’t have a description.

  54. Roca.:

Phranc – “So tonight it is. Hopefully it doesn’t turn out to be a PSP game. They talked all about PS3 games when they teased it”

it must be a high profile PS3 game because Geoff Keighley tweeted “You’ve seen Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain and God of War 3, but wait until you see what Sony has next”

  55. phranctoast:

    Geoff that friggin’ Hype Machine!!!

  56. SW:

They just managed to cram ten times the ducks into that bath, that’s all.

  57. Roca.:

We’ll See tonight what it is.
it’s probably a 10 second trailer that is just being hyped

  58. phranctoast:

Just a teaser. I recorded it and watched it this morning.

    Mafia 2 looked pretty good.
