Bungie hands out Halo: Reach beta to dedicated Halo 2 fans
Bungie recently announced that hardcore Halo fans clinging on to the old ways of the franchise will be in for a treat. The studio will be sending out invitations to participate in the Halo: Reach beta to those that have been actively playing Halo 2.
Microsoft recently set the gears in motion to shutdown Halo 2 servers for the original Xbox. This prompted an outcry from the Halo community as many gamers were actively playing this aging six-year-old game on their original Xbox.
I suppose some hardcore Halo fans still believe that Halo 2 was the best in the franchise. To quell their angst, Bungie and Microsoft are offering those who have been actively playing Halo 2 an invitation to play Halo: Reach beta. To sweeten things Microsoft is offering three months of Xbox Live Gold along with 400 Microsoft Points.
It sounds like a good way to get original Xbox owners to upgrade to the Xbox 360 with a three month trial of XBL and a chance to play Halo: Reach. I wonder if Microsoft did some type of analysis of how many Halo 2 players did not have an Xbox 360.
Check out the cool multiplayer beta trailer for Halo: Reach. It looks like there will be rocket packs and lots of explosions in the beta.

It does look pretty fun online, can’t be arsed getting an ethernet cable going upstairs though and the wireless adapter is a rip off. The campaign looks very good, I’ve only every got the Halo games for it’s campaign anyway.

harry – you can typically get speeds that match ethernet cables, so no problem there – the thing you have to check is that the devices are connected on the same circuit (i.e share the same breaker in the fuse box)otherwise it won’t work

One thing I’m not impressed with so far is the onscreen button display.
They put the triangle on the top and the circle on the right ect.. So you know which button to push based on the location. That was a stupid move because It makes it to easy. I get mad and curse on the 68th time I have to redo the sequence but it is more fun when you don’t know.
Anyone else notice this? Did you like or dislike it?

I noticed it and I like it. It allows you to pay more attention to whats happening and not draw your complete attention away from the scene in play. The only thing I didn’t like is the size of the buttons displayed. They seemed to have gotten a lot smaller than they were previously. It’s probably for the same reason I specified above though…..

I recall someone have an issue (GTTV) with the change in hours in gameplay addition. They were just concerned since the pacing of the GOW games seems to be spot on and perfect as is, that the pacing would be compromised by making the game longer.
If the early IGN review score rumor holds up, it appears to be a non concern……

Gears of War2 was longer, had more weapons, more bosses, different manouvers and better graphics than Gears1. They were pretty much the same game though.
There was no dynamic change to the gameplay, such is the way with sequels.
What I’ basically asking is, is the gameplay going to be fairly different in GOW3 than it is in the previous 2 titles.

I personally have nothing against the Halo franchise.

Halo fans seem to ignore the great online games that came out prior to Halo in which Halo wouldn’t exist as is if not for. (Unreal Tournament)

LOTR cleaned up at the AA, sold well, and was awesome.
It appears Avatar will be in the same boat based on nominations.
LBP sold over 3.5 million. Not too shabby for a new IP.
I think if you look at the games that won award for best game at the Academy of Interactive Achievement Awards (the most prestigious awards) We can all admit. Some damn fine games have won the GOTY award and all of them sold great.

Some PS3s went down with yellow lights and what not but the failure rate on them is much lower than 360.
Of course there is still the problem with Phat model PS3 collect dust inside quickly, but if your place isn’t excesively dusty you should be fine.

I saw this video of FF14 comparison. Side by side 360 and PS3 versions. Pretty awsome video. If you look close you can see the lack of detail in some textures on the 360 version. Overall it isn’t that bad though. Both versions simply look gorgeous and I can’t wait till Tuesday… Took the night off of work and I told everyone to go fuck off that day.
