Gametrailers teased that Sony will be announcing a sequel today on Spike TV. It seems like the European Playstation Blog jumped the gun a bit early and leaked some information out already.

According to the site, Zipper Interactive has been secretly working on developing SOCOM 4 behind the scenes for the PS3. In 2008 Slant Six took the franchise out for a drive with Confrontation, which was an online only game. Since then, many were curious of the franchise would return to Zipper Interactive again.

It seemed inevitable that the original creators would take the responsibility of creating the official sequel to the game. Slant Six will continue to work on developing the PSP versions of SOCOM, while Zipper, the original creators of the franchise will deliver the next iteration of the game.
